Chi'lantro is a spot I go to just about every time I go to Austin. It is pretty much a Chipotle meets Korean food. The food is always phenomenal and the experience is normally incredible. I love to get the kimchi fries to share with 1-3 other people. I'm a huge fan of putting the spicy pork on it, as the flavor is just incredible with the sauces other ingredients. Along with the kimchi fries, I'll normally get a burrito with noodles in it, and just about all these sides. The service here is great and check in on us to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. The food was not that good and lacked variety when it came to the toppings and such. The food is most definitely on the delicious side. You can pick your own entree with protein, sauce etc. They have Korean fried chicken wings. They have kid size bowls available. Omg Chi'Lantro, I love you so much! I am such a big fan of this place. When I went to school here (more than 5 years ago), Chi'Lantro was just a food truck. My friends and I would hunt it down every weekend for some kimchi fries with an over easy egg and now they have multiple restaurants all over Austin. My favorites are the "original" kimchi fries and kimchi burger (with ribeye beef). You will not regret the calories, totally worth every one. Also, I like their freshly made lemonade. I came across this place while I was out for a run. I can't tell if the smell was wafting from another restaurant in the area but I walked up and saw it looked like a smaller, better lit chipotle. Not all Chi'Lantro are the same... this is the fast food version and if you want Chi'Lantro served like Chipotle and served cold then this is the perfect restaurant for you. This is a new location, and it also differs a little from the other Chi'Lantro locations. They do not have the burger here, so if you want that go to a different location! This is Korean-fusion, Chipotle-style. They offer noodle bowls (glass noodles), which was what I tried. You can add your choice of meat or tofu, veggies, pickled veggies (kimchi!), corn, onions, etc etc..and your choice of sauce. The noodle bowl did not do it for me. I got it with their marinated tofu, and let's just say their marinated tofu was...too marinated for me. It was overwhelmingly sweet and drenched. My friends did not like the tofu today either and they're vegetarian! I got the sesame vinaigrette as recommended and that was also too sweet for me. Maybe it was the glass noodles, but the noodles could not absorb the sauce very well, so I just had a pool of this sauce at the bottom of my bowl. Maybe it was a bad day or maybe this location needs to work out some kinks. But anyway, don't get the noodle bowl lol. read more

Chi'Lantro BBQ opened their 4th brick and mortar today. The owner landed a deal on SharkTank in November and is now expanding the Chi'Lantro franchise. This new location is off of Shore District and Riverside adding to the delicious food seen in east Austin. The design of the patio and dinning room is absolutely gorgeous and modern. The new location is similar to the others with counter service and build your own options of tacos, rice bowls, noodle bowls salads, burrito and the OG Kimichi Fries. The house made sauces are phenomenal as is the kimchi so make sure to add them onto your order. And this location has them Gangman wings! I usually opt for a salad chock full of fresh veggies, a lean protein and kimchi but today I decided to go for the 2 tacos on corn. I ordered one sirloin and one spicy chicken, lettuce & cabbage, cucumber, cilantro topped with kimchi sauce and kimchi on the side. I love the fresh bold flavors of the meat, veggies and amazing sauce. The meats are perfectly marinated giving them an explosion of wonderful flavors. I also tried a wing and wish I could eat these everyday, so good! The only issue I see is it might be confusing to someone who has not been to another Chi'Lantro location and experienced how the ingredients work together. I love this place! The food is exceptional. However I prefer the other locations. My friends and I experienced rude service from the gentlemen making our food. They seemed very unhappy and one of them spoke to me quite rudely. However, the gentlemen with multiple arm tattoos was helpful and the lady working the cashier was nice. The first two guys didn't smile once and when I informed them I wanted to add a fried egg to my bowl, he said quite sharply "well did you tell anybody?" He asked me then what else I wanted on my bowl. I said, "Um I think..." And turned my head to look at the sauce list. As I did this he slid my bowl away from him and turned to the customer behind me while I was mid-sentence. It was so abrupt, but I just waited until the tattoo guy came and finished helping me.
