China King is your typical neighborhood Chinese takeout spot. When you walk in, you're greeted by the staff and owners, which is always a nice touch. The dining area is very small, with only a few tables and chairs available, so it's clear that most of their business is geared toward takeout rather than dine in customers. The prices are about what you'd expect from a local Chinese restaurant, neither expensive nor particularly cheap. For our meal, my girlfriend and I ordered the chicken noodle soup, fried chicken wings with pork fried rice, and the beef and broccoli. The chicken noodle soup was decent, although it leaned a little too salty for my taste, almost as if a bit too much soy sauce had been added. The beef and broccoli came with plenty of sauce, perhaps more than necessary, which made it a little overwhelming. The fried chicken wings were standard takeout wings, nothing remarkable but perfectly acceptable. One small mix up was that our pork fried rice came out as chicken fried rice instead. It wasn't a big deal, and thankfully the rice itself tasted good, so we didn't bother mentioning it. Overall, the food was average and pretty much what you'd expect from a standard Chinese takeout restaurant. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the experience, but there also wasn't anything that stood out enough to make me choose it over some of my usual go to Chinese spots in the area. Normally I just assume Chinese places like this will be mediocre at best but I grabbed a lunch special at 2:59pm. I ordered the sesame chicken lunch special which included pork fried rice and an egg roll. Great price, it came out within 5 mins and it was so fresh and actually pretty tasty! I ordered fried chicken wings, pork fried rice, chicken fried rice and shrimp lo mein. My daughter ordered scallops, fries, shrimp fried rice and spring rolls. All the fried rice tasted super bland and the portions were smaller than my normal place. The spring rolls had mushrooms in them, which she is allergic to. (1st time we've seen mushrooms in spring rolls) Scallops and fries were a NO. The chicken wings were fried well and tasted ok. The shrimp lo mein was the best tasting item we ordered. My partner was absolutely exhausted from remodeling our house all week and I have absolutely no idea how to cook, so as normal, he cooks every single night and washes all the dishes. I am a Primadonna princess who loves to eat out and write reviews and be waited on, so I had no idea what our evening would really entail. I have been suffering eating out since moving to this godforsaken area, called Saint Pete. It is not as bad as New Port Richey, but I would rather have my partner cook food then go outside the house. Which mind you, I am a social butterfly. Anyways, boy did my partner fuck up by not cooking. . He dropped off some packages at UPS from post-Christmas shopping, & next-door, he noticed the Chinese restaurant aluminating sign, along with a fellow New Yorker exiting said Boy this place is "breathtaking" and that sold him to proceed in ordering delivery to our house three minutes down the road our "dinner"...They delivered the food promptly and swiftly and the gentleman was more than extremely kind and sweet with a smile on his face better than Christmas. Unfortunately, or, however, sad as this may be, I will put it simply by saying that if I were anybody trying to eat Chinese food, beware. We ordered the most simplistic type of food. We requested orange chicken with pork fried rice, spring rolls (that were not consumable due to the fact that it was solely fried raw dough. Vomit). I will put it gently when I say that I did not get a normal night sleep because there was something more than wrong with the food. There was more time spent in the restroom than on the bed. I am not a fan of writing, not stellar reviews, yet, I feel like the patrons of Saint Pete should be well aware of the fact that the chicken was overcooked 15 times till Sunday, or maybe wasn't chicken? I have no clue. I am from LA and also lived in Scottsdale the last ten years of my adulthood of being a fanatic of dining out,, so I'm not used to this below subpar food standards. Excuse me, I actually did have to cook again because my wife was hungry after her "experience". I am doing my best to not be extremely upset, but I have struggled as a local myself to even find a mediocre Chinese restaurant local to me that is sufficient enough to just make it subpar like when I used to live in New York on New Year's Eve, as a bachelor and eat dinner by myself. My stomach is pretty ironclad, but I cannot stand the insufficiency and disgustingness of this type of guidelines of the so-called food health department standards. I had full intentions of confronting in person the restaurant today and having the staff try what they attempted to serve my wife and I, but we decided to go around the positive route and just let the people of the community know to be well aware of the fact that not only do you need to be careful of the freshness or quality of the food, but to get food poisoning or absolute, excruciating stomach cramps, and uncomfortability for 7 to 11 hours. Hey, please be aware and know that my heart is in the right place and I just want nobody else experience the hell of pain and suffering I did from the food and my Poor partner. That is all. We've been looking for another go-to Chinese take-out as the one we had been frequenting just doesn't get EXTRA SPICY. So we placed a takeout order for one order of Steamed Dumplings ($6.35), one order of Fried Dumplings ($6.350, a Curry Chicken combination with White Rice -extra spicy ($9.85) and a Hunan Chicken with Fried Rice- extra spicy ($9.85). They repeated the order, told me how much it would be where they were located and that I would get a text message when it was ready. I pulled into the shopping center when I got the text message telling me my food was ready. They are set up for take-out only with plexiglass shields where they slide the fool through. The food was ready and bagged up, ready to go with sauces and Fortune Cookies inside. The Dumplings looked more homemade than a lot of other places. They were a good size, the dough was a little thick, and there wasn't much filling. The Fried Dumplings were a bit soggy. The Egg Roll was super crispy and showed promise, but the inside was kind of bland and tasteless. My Hunan Chicken was good, just not very spicy. My husband's Curry was not very flavorful and needed a bit of heat. The one thing I did like was to see the Fried Rice with fresh Bean Sprouts in it. I just moved in next door and tried China King to see if they were going to be my go to Chinese fix. I ordered the General Tso extra spicy and, as is typical of your average Chinese restaurant, got it with very little spice. The food itself was decidedly average, including the crab rangoons. I will return and try different items as the staff was very friendly and seemed actively happy to have me, unlike some other restaurants as of late. In summary, if I didn't live next door, I wouldn't drive out of my way to visit, but it's nice to help a small business versus all the chains in the vicinity. read more

Never go here ever I went in to get some food take out and I ended up waiting 45 min ... just to let you know there was no costumers there besides for a guys who came in 30 min earlier to pick up his order 15 min later he came back in said he had the wrong order, then the lady takes out a container out of his bag puts it in another bag and hands it to me . I was in discuss she gave me food that someone had taken home opened up after he said " thought it tasted wrong " and gave it to me . When I asked her if she just that she said " it's still good take it home !" then I asked for a refund they refused and remade the order the other guy took home fresh. We have ordered from China King the last couple of years. We liked their steamed dumplings, so they became our place for Chinese. We ordered tonight our usual: egg rolls, steamed dumplings and sesame chicken. For two people the bill was $62 for it to be delivered. A bit steep compared to previous orders. Took an hour to arrive and was okay up until we got to the "chicken" I don't think there was a single piece of actual meat in the order. Just fried breading. For $62 + tip I would expect the sesame chicken to not be just sesame breading. We will not be ordering from them again. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years. It's changed management through the time period but the food has remained good throughout. The food is always made fresh and tastes great. I've had many different dishes here and have not yet found one that is average. The General Tsos heat depends on the day. The sesame chicken and chicken with broccoli are my favorite. I could eat both any time. The offer and variety of egg rolls and spring rolls and of course have crab ragoons (so yummy!). If you're in a hurry you can call ahead or order on an app called BeyondMenu. I've never ordered delivery from the app but order ahead often for pickup. The app lets you pay at the store and by the time I get there the food is ready. They have a few tables to eat at. One of the tables even has a lazy Susan. If you are dining in, they will offer styrofoam plates and there is plastic silverware on the counter. There is a single bathroom as well. There is plenty of parking out front. It's in a shopping center directly across from LA Fitness. It can be hard to find but it's worth it. Don't forget the mustard and the duck sauce! Enjoy! read more

I tried this China King as part of my never-ending quest for good Chinese food solely because they are one of the many take out joints in Tampa Bay that advertise their food as "New York Style." I lived in New York and I have no idea what "New York Style" chinese food is, but I do know I want the food I used to eat there. China King is one of the closest so far. Their Hunan chicken is spicy and flavorful, as is their Hot and Spicy Beef. Their Szechuan beef is not what I used to get up north, but I can get over it. I continue to go to China King on a fairly regular basis. These kinds of Chinese Take-out places are pretty common; China King is generally pretty good, with one exception (see below). My son always gets the General Tso Chicken combo. I try various dishes but get the Mu Shu Pork most often. I haven't had anything bad yet. It's pretty standard stuff, but dependable, and the kids who often help out at the counter are nice. However, the egg rolls aren't very good - there just isn't enough filling and I feel like they are mostly fried wrapper. More filling would make them much better. read more

Really 3.5 stars from my only visit. Plenty of parking, a bit hard to find. Generous servings, appears to be mainly to-go and delivery. General Tso shrimp very good, about a dozen huge shrimp. Since I can't give half stars, I have rounded up to two stars to be nice, but really, this is somewhere around 1.5 star Chinese food. It's take-out only and for the most part it's average quality, but I am a lover of good egg rolls and theirs fall way short of the mark. Well this was my favorite place to order from and we frequently order there. Well I got delivery tonight 7/23/20 and I am very unhappy. Took over 2 hours for it to arrive and was all cold. When I called to say something they insultated me and was only going to give me a 10% discount off my next order. Really I wont be ordering from there again. I said I want it on this order. Mind you my order was about $60 so then she said I'll refund 5 dollars. ARE YOU FING KIDDING ME. I told her I want at least 50 % off not the full thing. I have been getting Chinese food from this establishment for a decade or likely more. I remember when their food was both tasty and reasonably priced. Last night's food from China King was NEITHER! Even allowing for the COVID restrictions there is no excuse for this HORRIBLE food. The young lady who answered phone and took our order said "we will call you when it is ready. It will be about 30 minutes. Unless they're "hunting the game" first it NEVER TAKES 30 MINUTES. As we live all of about 6 minutes away, after 15 - 20 minutes we headed over to pick food up. First I was SHOCKED by the amount they have jacked up their prices. Online is says $8.25 for an entree which actually costs $11.15 now!! What according to online prices should have cost less than $31 tax included was now $45.85!! That is closeto a 50% MARKUP!! Now to the food.... Boneless spare ribs they overcharged for were literally like chewing on SHOE LEATHER!! ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. Let's go to something super simple.. Chicken Fried Rice.... it was RICE, it had CHICKEN.... but was an odd beige color and flavorless!! AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!! The pepper steak was okay and the shrimp with Broccoli ... they used extra large shrimp and broccoli was nicely cooked. Unfortunately, it couldn't overcome the ABSOLUTELY WASTED MONEY I PAID FOR "NON-FRIED RICE, AND NASTY BONELESS SPARE RIBS"!! Crossing them off the list I will drive a bit further and go elsewhere. I downloaded the app and made this profile for the sole purpose of this and only this review. While I was stuffing my face with sweet and sour deliciousness I noticed a dark spot on the inside of the breading on a piece of chicken. Call it curiosity I investigated. What I found was appalling. Got the curry chicken and onion. For me it all about price, portion, and quality. As a asian guy, its definately a generic chiese take out place. For an $8 order, it gave me a full entre container and a separate container of rice. Most places cheap out and put the rice on the bottom then the entree on top.
