Great small spot in the Richmond. They have 2 menus - one focused on Hunan cuisine, and another with more classic Chinese food. The former has limited vegetarian options, but the latter has a bunch of great "meatless chicken" options. I ordered the veggie fried rice and the meatless orange chicken. Both were really good, especially the meatless orange chicken which was crispy, chewy and coated in a sauce with the perfect amount of sweetness. Service was great and the spot is small and cozy, expect to wait a bit on a fri/sat night.

Got to try takeout from Chino Yang's and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Ordered their dry sautéed string beans and their hunan style twice cooked pork. Flavor is solid! The twice cooked pork is tender and very flavorful. The peppers go nicely with it and has a nice kick of spice - one of the best versions of this dish I've had. Green beans were good as well. Pickup was smooth and portions were good size. Would definitely get again!

Ordering at Chino Yang's was hard because every dish looked so good. And even after dining here, I'm still excited to come back and try other Hunan dishes. price: ~$20/person - Dry Hot Pot: Comes with various veggies and your choice of protein. The lamb that we ordered was tender and tasted fresh. Needs to be paired with rice because it's so spicy and oily. We demolished every bite aside from the peppers. Ordering is quick and easy via QR code! Good for smaller groups and even takeout seems popular.

Food (5/5): Very, very solid, probably one of the best I've had for this type of Chinese cuisine. The menu has a very wide variety of Chinese foods, from very traditional to more Western influenced. We ordered Beef & Lamb Skewers, Mapo Tofu, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was the standout. Ambiance (3/5): Definitely leans more hole-in-the-wall-y, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing! Most restaurants in this area feel like this, so I'd say this is pretty average. They have a HUGE space upstairs though, so seating is very ample all around! Service is good and fast, but beware servers don't speak the best English. Value (5/5): Great bang for your buck for the amount and quality of food that you're getting. Portions are very generous, we spent ~$30pp for 3 entrees for a party of 2. Overall: Would definitely come back, and one of my top 2 Chinese restaurants in the area now!

Came here with several friends for a special event on a Thursday night, and we are thankful we reserved in advance since the restaurant was crowded and had plenty of people waiting outside around the time we left. Beef Fish Fillet: tender, flavorful, spicy but good balance Hunan Fried Rice Noodles with Pork: personally my least favorite and the seasoning was okay Sizzling Japanese Egg Tofu with Minced Pork: This was almost everyone's favorite dish! The tofu was soft and silky, and the pork was rich and savory. All the ingredients stood out well in this dish. Hunan-style Twice-Cooked Pork: strong spicy-salty kick! Garlic Lettuce Stem: I loved this vegetable choice our group made since it balanced the richness and spiciness of all the other dishes.

This was our first visit, and we'll be back. Great Hunan food. We tried 3 dishes: Chili dry fried chicken (boneless) this was good but if I were to get it again I suspect the bone in would be more juicy Mashed eggplant with green peppers and a century egg - this arrived with a big mortar and pestle for us to muddle. Though it took a little work, the eggplant and other veggies looked beautiful--if they had been mashed for us we would have not seen the colors as much. We really enjoyed this dish. Unlike the other two, it was not spicy. Minced pork with pickled long beans. This was our favorite dish. For less adventurous eaters, there was a second menu with "Classic Chinese Food" With things like twice cooked pork, dumplings, etc.

Delicious meal overall. Honestly we made the mistake of ordering everything hunan style so everything had the same flavor profile but it was still great. I do recommend the mashed eggplant with green pepper and century egg as my favorite! Server opted to let us mash it which was pretty cool. The cumin lamb comes in as a close 2nd as I need my protein. So much ingredients and flavor went into it was perfect and especially if you love spicy food. Only issue was that the ribs were overcooked and a little dry but other than that, may have to come back to try some of their other non hunan dishes.

First time and all the dishes hit good. Service was fast and friendly. Place is kinda small so I wouldn't recommend a big party. Will go back and try more dishes

Fantastic neighborhood spot for Chinese food. The hunan specialty dishes pack so much flavor in every bite! Garlic cumin spare ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and the fish was perfectly crispy. Both had a nice kick from the chilis without being overly spicy. Honestly drooling just writing this ...

    General Tso's chicken

High quality Chinese food. The General Tso's chicken was legit good. They have a very expansive menu. They do standard Chinese dishes along with spicy Hunan style, which is probably why a lot of real Chinese people come here. . Definitely worth checking out.

Hot chicken wings with the bone in. Fire and flavor in each bite!
    Curtis L.

Ordered the chili chicken wings with bone in. It looked like I would need some yogurt to put the fire in my soul out but it was pleasantly hot and tasty ! Chino looks skinnier and younger than his YouTube Rap video. He was welcoming and really interesting to speak with. He jokes with his customers and describes his food with great fun and flair! His words; " I'm bringing back great Chinese food to the masses." He is intensely aware of his culture, the youth, and the working people of this city. He wants to make it better. Check this restaurant out and you will not be disappointed!

New sister restaurant to Kung Food- Hey Chino!

If Chino Yang's had been around after an epic night at Plough & the Stars I might not have made out with a guy from Dentsu Japan: I would've been eating drunchie fantastic food from Chino Yang's, open late for late night cravings. I wanted to be surprised so I didn't ask about the preparation of Peking Pork Chops ($15.50). I popped open the container and took a bite- scallopini'd pieces of sweet & sour pork goodness (you must get!) Prawns with string beans ($17.95, with lots of big, plump, delicious shrimp), perfectly wok-tossed and crunchy with just the right amount of oil. The Sichuan peppercorn-infused steam from Mapo Tofu knocked me back and I did a happy dance for the mala taste to come ($15.50). Everything was great but I have a preference for the way Chino Yang's sister restaurant Kung Food prepares its chicken fried rice. I like thin, juicy slices of chicken; Chino Yang's dices it and it tastes dry. Make it like Kung Food! "Red" is the color theme of Chino Yang's which will not only wake you up but if behavioral science holds, encourage you to eat more. Hey, you're in the right place: Order a lot of food, eat well and have leftovers for breakfast.

There used to be a restaurant called Ben Wah on California St. They had a dish called Hunan Crispy Beef. The meat was sweet. Is your Crispy Hunan Dragon Beef crispy and sweet?

Yes our Hunan crispy dragon beef is similar to what you described 😁, sweet tangy and a hint a spicy 🌶️

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately.
