Cons: - Tiny store with very limited seats if you plan to dine in. - Parking can be crowded. - Anticipate to wait a while for folks ordering a lot. Recommendations: - Porridge combo. - Sausages. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the ​home and open the containers. . . I felt totally cheated. They did not close the container tightly​ and did not tape down the lid, that is a minus. And although there were some spillage​ from one container, it was minor. I opened the other container that was not spilled, and wow just wow! They skim out so much! They did not even fill the container up all the way to the minimum level line! Please don't come back to me with the line "well we can't fill it up all the way because so and so and so. NO! You were greedy and cheated me off what I paid. I paid for a large, but the amount measured here was a medium size. I have eaten at the other Tam Bien location on Brookhurst, and it was a lot more for a large. They always filled close to the lid but unfortunately,​ this location took it upon themselves to be greedy. That is too bad because they just lost a patron that really loves Chao Long. This container is comparable to the other location because when I dine in, I order a large bowl. I take the leftovers​ home and it fills up half of the container. SO please explain to me how is it that what I order is consider a large when there​ are​ 2-3 inches of empty spaces left from the soup line to the opening mouth of the container. Face it! You can only stay in the comfort zone of pho for so long. Eventually your curious self would want to expand beyond the rice noodle and beef soup territory. This place is made for those who feel the need for some adventure in Vietnamese cuisine. For the daring, there's tiet canh de (or congealed goat blood pudding). It's sold in a plastic containter raw and meant to be eaten raw. It should be further garnished with some sliced liver, chopped peanut, basil, rice cracker, and a spritz of lemon. After all, we're not chupacabras. For the less daring, there are freshly cooked pig innards and boiled sausages for the taking. Lemongrass (doi xa) and blood sausage (doi huyet), sold by the pound, should at least be in your bag when you walk out of this place. The lemongrass sausage is stuffed with ground pork infused with lemongrass and other spices. It possesses a sweet and aromatic flavor. The blood sausage on the other hand is heavily doped with fresh basil to mask out the iron taste of the blood pudding. The result is a savory and slightly chewy sausage. My mom is thankful for places like this because preparing these items herself would take the whole morning. They are the essential ingredients for making innard rice porridge or chao long, which is also served here. Cho Tam Bien actually means Tam Bien Market but it's a hybrid of both market and restaurant. There are fresh meat and ingredients you can get from behind the counter, where you can also order fully prepared meals to eat in. Usually order pork blood togo for home made bun rieu/bun bo hue here but no more. The stench is so unbearable and had to be thrown away. And that is even after boiling it in black pepper thoroughly. Chao huyet used to be good too. But now its so stinky. Can't imagine what the chao long would be like. If you like stinky pork in your food, then this is it. It isn't the best sausage I've tasted but certainly better than some places I've been to. The best blood sausage I've had was homemade from a little old lady over a decade ago. She did it out of her backyard and sells the usual heart, tongue, intestines and liver. Hers was so flavorful and nothing have compared to it since. She was probably in her late 80's back then so I don't think she around anymore. I always remember her blood sausage . Anyways, back to this shop. They also sell to go items like goat curry, chicken curry, be thui, papaya salad and lòng combo. They also sell some snacks. One of my favorite is the crispy rice with shredded pork. Also, it's always a great and fun thing to throw some FRIED CHINESE DOUGHNUTS in the RICE PORRIDGE and wait until the doughnut slices soak up a little bit of the porridge, before you scoop it up in a spoon and devour it. Prepared refrigerated foods, frozen cha gio, frozen gio song, frozen hotspot meals, frozen goat curry, rabbit curry, goats meat, fresh meats, chao long chao ga chao vit, bun Bo hue, banh Chung, crispy fresh cha gio. I settled to buy 2bun Bo hues Togo. Bun Bo hue $5.50 large bowl Togo Goat meat hotpot $7.99 There's another cho tam bien by Brodards behind the 99 cents store. I wanted to get the com tam bit hit nuong and com Bo luc lac but they don't offer it here. They said the other store has it. The bun Bo hue was good but lacked a little salt, so you should add some salt or nuoc mam if you get home to eat. Otherwise, the meat was plenty, and the cha was really good. Can't beat $5.50 for a meal! Had some leftover broth for tomorrow too! Will definitely be back for the bun rieu, chao long, and try the com Bo luc lac at the other store! read more
