What an oasis!! We were driving from SF to Portland, and after a long day on the road, we were really dreading that our only option at 10 pm would be fast food... Cue Chopstix, which entered our lives at the right time and at the right place. Not gonna lie, we were wary at first because Chopstix is the sort of name where you'd expect a horrific angular font and white people options like kungpao chicken and broccoli beef (which I think are actually on the menu)... but don't worry y'all--it's also got the good stuff. We knew when we saw the menu on the windows with Chinese and legit photos. We knew when we stepped in and the staff talked to us in Mandarin. We knew when they were still just takeout only because of the pandemic. The owners' story of how they came to acquire the place is admirable, and they've carried out their vision well. \\ 白肉酸菜 (pickled cabbage with pork belly) - a little oily, but a rare gem! pickled cabbage (somewhat similar to sauerkraut) is from northeast China and seems to be so hard to find outside of that region, even in China because it needs to ferment in cool weather so it doesn't rot, and any preservatives for shipping would alter its flavor - came with generous amounts of soft pork belly - pairs well with rice - this warmed our souls and revived us--though we're biased because this is our comfort food, so ymmv \\ 红烧牛肉面 (braised beef noodle soup) - a little bit of that tickles-the-back-of-your-throat spicy--so good!! - lots of giant tender beef chunks - comes with no veggies, heh - the broth is pretty greasy - the noodles weren't the best texture but they were takeout \\ 蒜蓉青江菜 (stir-fried garlic bok choy) - this is a basic Chinese restaurant veggie dish and it was yum This was more than enough for the two of us. Everything was greasier than we were used to even in restaurant world, but it was still really yum and hit the spot. Fantastic flavors, friendly service, and great availability. This was our second time eating here. First time was great, this time . We started with crispy spring rolls which were out of this world last time. You could tell they were hand made. This time they were different. The wrapper was thick and tough, hard to bite through and there was a spice that was just unpleasant. We could not eat them. My wife got the orange tofu. Big surprise! No veggies, no rice and no flavor. I got the dry cooked garlic green beans. I ordered rice thank goodness because it didn't come with any either. Huge hunks of garlic and hot peppers, seriously overcooked beans in a way too salty sauce. They are such nice people; checking on you to see how it's going. Dining in has been quiet and takeout is always fast. This is a solid standard Chinese food spot. It's not upscale and no one here expects that so foodies need to go to Portland. The garlic bok choy is a favorite. Their fried rices are all good. General Tsao we get every time. At the risk of making this place overly popular I need to let everyone know that this is THE BEST Chinese food in Eugene. Here's the caveat - don't order Americanized BS dishes that you could get anywhere else. Think General Tso, orange chicken, lo mein, etc. Get bold. Ask what your server likes. I have found that if even one Americanized item is ordered then the rest of the meal's flavor and potential will be dialed down. I get it. The cooks think you're soft and don't want you to send the food back. They know what they're doing. Things to try: black fungus salad, cucumber salad, twice fried pork, kimchi fried rice, pancake roll with beef, hot pot, dry pot (try the tofu), sizzling black pepper beef noodles, mapo tofu, chongqing spicy noodles, and house tofu are some of the BEST dishes we've had. Takeout has always been hot and fresh, the restaurant itself has a great hole-in-the-wall vibe and the service is fast and efficient but not overbearing. read more

We used to drive to south Eugene to get good Chinese food but the restaurant closed so we thought we'd have to do without. Then we discovered Chopstix. What a find! We've had the fungus salad, eggplant, chow mein and several tofu dishes; all have very good. Good option for vegetarians. read more

Lane County Health Department gave this restaurant a score of only 75 out of 100 in March 2024. There were multiple hygiene violations that were supposed to be corrected. There has been no subsequent inspection since March, so I will not be returning. read more

So after having a let down at our favorite spot too many times, we decided to try this place out for once and see what the talk was all about. Well first off we ordered our egg flower soup we love so much and it was fantastic, super delicious and rich with color. The other items we ordered was 1/2 shaved noodles with chicken, fired rice, curry shrimp, and chicken vegetables. Everything was exceptional but the only issue we had was the 1/2 noodles I believe are house made and they where just too thick and mushy. Also the curry shrimp could of used a bit more flavor of curry and a bit thicker would be nice too. Just a tad bit too watery for my families liking. As odd as it sounds, during the week I've observed many good dine in restaurants being closed by 9:00 PM. You would think this place (Springfield/Eugene) would have more options open past 9:00 PM. The best thing I can say is that they are open late which is great for the munchies. The food just isn't happening though. I've had the General Tso chicken twice. Both times it was gelatinous blobs of chicken with no sauce to mingle with the rice. It felt odd and gross. The eggplant was really disappointing. It looked spicy though and is strong on the vinegar. I could taste the wok hei "breath of wok" in the shrimp and beef and some noodles in the dish, which is a good sign the cook is skillful. Finally tried Chopstix Chinese restaurant today! First of all, what an amazing and friendly staff. Louie took care of us, and was thrilled that we appreciated authentic Chinese cuisine. He was happy that we ordered tripe and more true cultured foods, we talked about our travels, and how he really encourages others to try more than the Kung Pao or Mongolian beef. (well I encouraged that too!) I stated that I bet they make incredible 'Chinese favs as well'. For me and my husband, being world travelers, and I being Thai-Chinese, this food hit the spot! Rich flavors, bone broth soups, and a home away from home! We had the chili pork tripe (cold salad), and salt and pepper squid, with the spicy hot bowl (Spicy Hot Bowl Includes: lamb slices, fish balls, omasum, needle mushroom, tofu skin, bean vermicelli,black fungus, firm tofu and bok choy.) Ask for the home made chili sauce which was incredible! The squid was light and refreshing... with sweet white onions and scallions, I think I was tasting cardomom which was a little sweet, but perfect. My husband and I felt that the Spicy Hot Bowl was a Chinese Menudo! Every country has their tripe soup, and it was a deep soulful broth.. packed full of lamb, and goodies! So we are excited to try out the evening 'Skewers' of so many tasty fried yummies, reminds me of the streets of Bangkok, my home. I have not been to this location so my review is solely based on the food we had delivered. We ordered four dishes to share on New Year's Eve: general tsao chicken, beef fried rice, vegetable spring rolls, and pork dumplings. I feel like our selection of food provided exactly what you look for in Chinese delivery- good portions at a good price! We really enjoyed everything but the pork dumplings. I am not going to say they were bad because we never eat dumplings so I definitely don't know what they are supposed to be like. I still ate a few of them, but I much preferred the rest of the food we ordered. We also appreciated that there was enough for us both to eat leftovers the next day too! Brought my parents to try it out for lunch one day. They enjoyed everything, but did think the boiled fish with chili oil soup had non authentic fish (tilapia) inside it. The lunch specials include rice and hot and sour soup, which was quite good. Otherwise, we got a variety of dishes that were very tasty. Like most Chinese restaurants, the food was quite salty which made us really thirsty for the rest of the day. The interior decor is really nice and tastyfully done. Well I finally did it. I've broken the Covid Seal and have decided to order out since the beginning of this Pandemic. Honestly, I couldn't be happier. My eyes welted with with joy as I inhaled my General TSO's Chicken. These little delicious bites of heaven rolled over my tongue ready to battle my insatiable appetite, as if General Tso was commanding them on the battle field. The sweet vinegary sauce, perfectly blended with the crispy fried chicken, quickly overcame my taste buds and eviscerated any semblance of hunger. With my hunger dwindling, I turned my attention to my other dish--a cup of wontons in chicken broth. If I knew what was good for me I would have ended the battle for my stomach. I, however, am a glutton and not a quitter, so I marched forth. To make a long review short, we went here one day and my mom forgot to write the tip down on the receipt. The waitress followed us out the door upset that we didn't tip and asked us why we didn't tip then complained that we never tip enough anyway. For $35 I got 4 full meals of food from Chopstix. For how delicious the food was, I would say that is not a bad value at all. The dumplings were probably my favorite. The sauce they made to go with it was incredibly flavorful as well. Everything was piping hot and incredibly fresh. They are continuing to be takeout only and I applaud them for caring so deeply about the health of their employees and patrons. They are so sweet and pleasant to interact with.
