If I can give this place a zero I totally would. And, to make this clear this isn't for all the staff but for one staff member. On Wednesday morning on my way to the office I decide to pick up some breakfast on the way. I order some food. Once I got to the office I put my food away in the FRIDGE. A few hours later, I grabbed my food and to my surprise my whole order was messed up. I couldn't eat it so I threw it away. My oatmeal was not cooked all the way and it smelled funny. The breakfast sandwich that i had order was incorrect as well. I didn't call to complain cause one I was busy at work and two I figured once I went back I could just let them know what had happened. This morning I came in to buy breakfast since it's right around the corner and it's extremely convenient to my apartment.Well I told the lady in the front desk of what had happened and continue to order my food. One worker then said oh no today's breakfast is on us. I then said, no it's ok. How much is it? And she said nothing. I asked her a couple of times if she was sure. I sat down and looked at the ladies chatting in the back. And, that's when another rude crazy looking lady came rushing towards me. Saying it's my fault that the food was bad because I took to long to eat it. And kept yapping about who knows what. I kept cutting her off so I could just pay and have her leave me alone. But she kept kept going on.She gave me my order and not once did she apologize about her treating me the way she did. INSTEAD SHE KEPT YAPPING ABOUT HOW IT WAS MY FAULT THE FOOD WAS BAD. AT THIS POINT I TURNED AROUND AND SAID YAAH WHATEVER. LETS MAKE SOMETHING CLEAR. I WAS NOT ASKING FOR FREE FOOD NOR FOR AN APOLOGY. I WANTED TO MAKE THE RESTAURANT AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. I always have breakfast by myself at this restaurant, and I always order the California Benedict cause I love my breakfast with avocado. I might get one of the omelettes next time, but I really recommend the Benedict Plate. The service is fast and the waitress are very friendly. I've been on the lookout for the best breakfast burrito near my work and I think I found it! My biggest qualm with the last three breakfast burritos I've had is that they're incredibly greasy; the tortilla usually tears apart and the grease will start dripping through the wrapper. Nobody wants to start the day with grease stains on their blouse! So, how do you solve this problem? Make a burrito so large that you physically can't hold it up, double wrap the tortilla, stuff it with avocado and veggies, and smother it in salsa to cut the grease. Christie's breakfast burrito is definitely a knife and fork burrito, which isn't terribly convenient on the go (I don't think it's meant to be eaten as take-out). I'd definitely pass on the side of hash browns next time because it's honestly just too much food! I could barely finish half the burrito and I hate wasting delicious food. :( The coffee is great (diner coffee is my favorite) and the servers are super friendly! Parking is easy and service is quick. Would definitely revisit with a full appetite and a companion to split the food. read more

This is a decent diner weekend brunch location that is a bit hard to find and get to. I saw it from my car and I had to go fight weekend farmers market parking to get a spot. It's a very tight space in here and not much room near the front for people waiting for a table. I ordered the Monterey omelette with sourdough toast and when the food eventually came, they gave me white toast. Ehhh...no big deal. The omelette was actually pretty good and the hash browns were indeed as crispy as advertised. My friend and I did feel a bit rushed during our meal as I had a lot of people coming over every couple of minutes to take the bill, bus the table, ask if we needed anything else. Hmmmm hint received...you have people waiting and you need to turn tables. I get it, I get it. They could have just said so and we would had left way earlier. Post meal stuff aside, it was good food and they did indeed check on us frequently during our meal. I didn't leave with the ideal "satisfied" feeling after a meal, but willing to give them another try in the not-so-distant future. read more

We went here today with a small group for the first time. My husband and I are on the Whole30 program and were concerned about what to eat, and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the diet plate with ground chuck patty, hard boiled egg (I had mine poached), we asked for no cottage cheese- replaced with beautiful sliced tomatoes and added avocado, also came with a lovely fruit "cup" - had strawberries, grapes, pear, watermelon, pineapple, and banana slices(freshly cut- not brown at all). We got water with lemon slices. Everything was beautifully plated, fresh and delicious. Very accommodating. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

My first french kiss was with a boy named Daniel and was filled with disappointment. Now, the kiss itself was not too shabby (save from the fact it took place inside a green porta-potty at the back of the school football field). The disappointment didn't come until the little b@stard switched the lock from 'occupied' to 'vacant' and shoved me out of the B&B, high-fived his friends, and said "who next?" *sigh* to be young again... Unlike Daniel the Casanova, Christie's doesn't disappoint. In fact, I have a connection to this place that very few can understand. Last night, I even fell asleep in pink bunny pajama pants and a pink 'Christie's tank top.' Part of me wonders if I received this top for free, since they anticipate a high-traffic count in my bedroom. Am I free advertising? Speculations aside, it's a very comfy shirt and stylish to boot. Come here and drink a cup of black coffee, eat some hearty & satisfying breakfast, and buy me a piece of apparel that will help you gain VIP admission to my bedroom. For Burlingame, I think I was expecting something a little less homestyle diner-y, but it's cute, it's super cheap, and they've got a tree outside with crocheted eggs and bacon in the shape of a smiley face. It's pretty much a classic diner menu. Our server was fine. The service overall wasn't great but it got the job done. I got coffee and they were super on top of refills. The sugar dispenser could've used a good wipe-down but I understand the diner vibe and know this is pretty typical. For my meal I was between the avocado melt, which sounded great, albeit that was the only description, no mention of bread or type of cheese, but I went with the avocado, egg, and cheese sandwich because it was breakfast time and I wanted some egg in the mix. I asked my server if the cheese in the sandwich was melty because that would've been a deal-breaker (Who wants unmelted cheese on egg?) and she assured me it was. Great! Only it wasn't. There were two pieces of cheese, one was maybe close to starting to melt and the other wasn't melted at all, which was a bummer but I was in a rush and it was still food, plus it came with a ton of homestyle potatoes and I'm a sucker for those... normally. These were, again, just ok. My bill for coffee and more food than I could finish in one sitting was $12+tip, so pretty hard to be too much of a critic. Christie's is the tits. In my opinion, outside of San Francisco, it's one of the best diners to grab some breakfast at in the Bay. The diner is not only awesome, but the vibe and staff rock pretty damn hard too. If you are going to hit this place up, make sure you do it when you are in the mood for breakfast food. Also, make sure and bring your appetite because Christie's is all about big portions. I'd recommend selecting from one of their signature omelets (all are made with 3 eggs, toast and homemade hash browns or home fries). Now since I'm a maniac, I normally go with the Monte Carlo which is a fresh chili and cheese omelet. It's amazing...seriously, their omelets taste like Christmas Morning. In other words, if you're Arnold Schwarzenegger, then you should get your ass to Mars, BUT if you're a fan of omelets, then you should get your ass to Christie's. read more

Here is my comparison if some of my local breakfast spots were motorcycles. And no, I'm not drunk. Christies would be Harley Davidson, rough and blue collar. Stacks would be a Ducati since its so popular and pretty but just a little bit more expensive. I know they have waiting lists for Ferraris but not for Duc's. Millbrae pancake house would be a Suzuki SV650. The old faithful, the one that isn't the prettiest one to bring out but consistently serves you well and leaves you satisfied. The IHOP near Tanforan would be a 1982 Honda Hawk, really rough and not something that you would not feel safe riding. read more

Unlike Ray-Ray B. I don't know if I'd actually call this place "the tits." It's a classic greasy spoon diner with traditional breakfast fare, but it sure seems to have its own cult following. My dining companion was one of those. "Alright I'll bite," I told him, putting aside my allegiance to the great cult of Bette's Oceanview Diner. Following his dedication and free ride to Christie's we made the trip from Berkeley to Burlingame through tolls and traffic for a 9:30 AM breakfast. We were seated pretty quickly and immediately served mugs of hot coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Scrolling through the menu of everything from eggs any style to lunch offerings of burgers and sandwiches, I decided on the Eggs Benedict with hash-browns while my dining partner went with his usual two eggs over easy. When my Eggs Benedict arrived I started to get what Ray-Ray B. said about his food. My eggs were "the tits." No, really. They really did look like tits. To be more specific, think Dolly Parton. There's nothing natural about Dolly's chest, and the same thing can be said about Christie's poached eggs. They were perfect, too perfect -- too round and too uniform in size. They seemed to have been cooked in a mold to give them their identical shape but also inhibiting that silky, delicate texture of a naturally poached egg. They were served on an over-sized English Muffin with a large, thick-cut slab of ham and tangy hollandaise sauce. A slice of olive topped each egg, rounding out the Parton-esque image. The hash-browns, though, were heart stopping. Served extra crispy on the outside while soft, fluffy, and moist on the inside, they were simply impeccable. Eating these on the regular would actually make your heart stop, but all the while worth every bite. As for the eggs over easy -- they were simply sublime. Served with a generous portion of hash-browns, two pieces of juicy linguiça, and sourdough toast buttered so perfectly that I'm pretty sure I could see my reflection in it, I finally began to understand the dedicated following Christie's has amassed. read more

Ever since last summer's trip to Europe, I have developed a love affair with restaurants w/ streetside tables. Maybe it's the sunshine, the people watching, the breeze...but whatever it is, I love it. Christie's is not exactly a European-inspired cafe, but it does have it's charm. My hubby and I were lucky to snag a streetside table for Sunday brunch without any wait at all. Christie's has a very extensive menu so you'll probably have a hard time deciding on just one thing. We opted for: - Bacon waffle: How awesome is this?! A bacon-infused waffle w/ maple syrup has to be one of the greatest inventions of the 21st century. - Strawberry banana nutella crepe - huge chunks of fruit. Plus, Nutella makes everything delicious. - Chicken apple sausage omelette - Like all dishes here, they don't skimp on the portion size. Service was friendly and fast and their prices are affordable. I'm definitely adding Christie's to my Sunday brunch rotation. read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place outside of the city for breakfast food and we stumbled upon Christie's through it's excellent reviews on Yelp. We arrived at 11:00am on Sunday and we were seated quickly as there was no line, but I wasn't sure if that was a good sign or not. The waitress was very rude and kept rushing us to make a decision when the place wasn't even busy. She gave us attitude when she asked if we were ready to order, and even had the nerve to tell us to "get off our phones" when we were looking at pictures on Yelp for suggestions. We ended up ordering the Eggs Benedict w/ Hash Browns, Chocolate Chip Pancake w/ Strawberries, and a side of Bacon. Eggs Benedict w/ Hash Browns: 2 Stars. The Eggs Benedict looked ill-prepared and was completely drowned in the sauce. Would not recommend it. It's just poached eggs, ham, and an English muffin. I wasn't sure if it was the ham or the sauce, but the whole thing was way too salty. The Hash Browns were delicious. They were the perfect brown and crunchy. Chocolate Chip Pancakes w/ Strawberries: 2 Stars. They weren't anything special. They weren't bad, but they also weren't good. Not worth the trip out to get them. My girlfriend said they had a salty aftertaste, but that didn't bother me that much. Bacon: 1 Star. Terrible. Dry. Broke apart when I tried to pick it up with my fork. Extremely salty. I felt like I was putting a thick layer of salt in my mouth when I ate it. I suggested to my waitress that it was overly salted and I asked if the dish could be refunded. The waitress said she would still have to charge me for it, so I didn't even bother anymore. Overall, Christie's was THE worse breakfast place I've ever went to. Service was horrid and food was below average at best. Their service fits the slogan they have posted up on their wall: "Sorry! I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Since we were nearby on Saturday afternoon, we decided to have a late brunch here. My guy had been here once a very long time ago, but didn't remember any details. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, but were actually seated in about 5. That was nice, but then after sending the waitress away( we hadn't made up our minds yet) it took a long time for her to return to take our orders. I had the pancakes with bacon. Saturday is my one day a week I have an unhealthy breakfast. So, if the food isn't great, i am VERY disappointed. I was pretty disappointed with this meal. The bacon was so salty is was literally inedible, and the pancakes were ok, but nothing special. Not worthy of my one day of pancake eating. My guy's scramble and hash browns was actually pretty good, but we've still had better. All in all, a lackluster meal, and I won't be returning. read more

Huge portion. Great, friendly, warm vibe in this cute neighborhood restaurant. Looks like they have regulars on any given day. The also get a big draw for breakfasts, especially on the weekends. But if you're near downtown Burlingame, I would have to say this place is definitely worth the wait because of the selection and quality of food AND the daily pet parade on the avenue! The place was bustling and the line outside the door kept forming as I ate. The servers are extremely friendly and things run like a well-oiled machine here. Okay, I'm putting this out in the open . . . I had to do the walk of shame one morning. The downside: I was in skanky clothes so early on a Sunday AM; the guy sucked in bed, sucked at oral, and upon waking up and looking at him, well, it was a "coyote ugly" type of moment. The upside: I looked damn hot for a Sunday AM; I met up with some girlfriends to give them the play by play of the nights disaster (that and I needed a ride back to my house); I grubbed on some damn good breakfast to soak up my booze and misery. I tried their breakfast combination: 2 eggs; 2 pancakes; 2 sausages (let's just say these breakfast links were MUCH thicker and bigger than the one I had the prior night). Very good. I waited longer than I'd like for my breakfast to arrive, but the coffee was good enough to hold me over. One friend had the eggs benedict. She was unhappy with it because it was SMOTHERED in hollandaise sauce (which she said had an odd taste to it). Another friend had the denver omelet with hash browns. Her first statement was "Damn that's huge." Wish I could've said that the night before. Finally, the one boy with us had corned beef and hash . . . very tasty, if you can get over it looking like Alpo dog food. read more

I love their Breakfast Specials section of the menu that offer combination plates of sweet and savory foods. (My favorite is the French toast, eggs, and hash browns platter.) I love me some French toast but hate that an order typically never comes with any savory foods to balance it out. Denny's is the only other place that I've known to serve a combination platter, but I'd choose Christie's/any other breakfast place over the former. I also like that Christie's offers egg whites and egg beater options for their omelets! Recently, I ordered an egg white chicken apple sausage, mushroom, and Swiss cheese omelet. The entrée also came with toast and hash browns. The egg whites were prepared really well and the portions were enough for my breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Free 2-hour parking can be found one block south of Christie's near the auto shops. Best time to go is during the weekdays or if you happen to have a regular 9-5 job and can only treat yourself on weekends, a party of two will save you a long wait. read more

I found it quite funny that my honey wrote about honey this morning. It's funny because my honey loves honey and I love honey on my pancakes. And when I want pancakes I come here, where they actually have a squeeze bottle full of honey and not those nasty hard to open honey packets. By the time I get those things open, my mood for a lascivious pancake session is gone. Well not really, but lets just say I prefer the natural honey dispenser. Definitely the best brunch food in Burlingame. Food: ordered the Mexican omelette, it was HUGE, to my pleasant surprise. I only finished about half. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and all of the ingredients thrown in the omelette went together amazingly. It had just the right amount of spice with the jalapeños. The pecan waffle was delicious as well. it was dense, packed with flavor, and the pecans had the perfect crunch. Price: very cheap for the amount you get. The omelette which included hash browns was around $10. The waffle was about $6. Service: here's where I'm holding back 1 star. Unfortunately there were only about 2 waiters covering the whole restaurant and service was SLOW. Hoping they hire more help in the future because we waited about 35 min to get our food. read more

We went here for breakfast, and although the service was great, I don't think the food is that amazing. For Burlingame, you're either a Stacks person, an Alana's person or a Christie's person. I realize at this point that I am not a Christie's person. If you're a Christie's person, you like diners. You like your portions to be gigantic. You eschew frilly accoutrements with your down-home breakfast. You may, in fact, be a meat-and-potatoes guy/gal. The food here was too greasy for our taste, and some of the ingredients seemed canned, as opposed to fresh (the mushrooms in the scramble, for example). Maybe they were fresh, but if they were, they were too oily and mushy to be enjoyable. It wasn't necessarily bad -- just not to our taste. We won't be going back, especially since Alana's and Stacks offer fresher food that's less Greasy Spoon and more California-style. I mean, this *is* California, after all... read more

No matter how hungover I looked from whatever happened the night before, the ladies @ Christie's knows exactly how to make me feel good again. They have the best Country Fried Steak by far. Also, dont hesitate to try their daily/weekly specials during the weekend breakfast. I never regret trying different items on the menu. Their tuna melt is enough to share for two especially if you dont want to be the only one with a fishy breath. Decided to pick up some breakfast for my coworkers this morning because we had a busy day ahead full of interviews. I called Christie's while in route to place the orders so that they'd be ready when I arrived. A very bubbly lady answered the phone and took my order. She was friendly but felt the need to tell me how long the line is and that other people are waiting. I'm sorry but is that my problem? I thought I was very clear in my requests, tried to make them as simple as possible and was speaking as quickly as I could in order to maximize the use of both our times. I arrived at the restaurant five minutes later to see it was empty, only a couple seats were occupied. I waited for my order and took it to the office to see that the order was all messed up! Every order was wrong! I'm like how is this even possible when she read the order back to me twice. Word to the wise: If ever you feel that the server is rushing you through an order, chances are the order will be wrong and that you wont enjoy the food or the experience. They need to work on improving their customer service! read more

My girlfriend and I wanted to try a new breakfast spot. We had the bar set pretty high after having tasted Mama's and Alana's Cafe. We walked in and the ambiance was OK. Typical small diner restaurant with some pictures on the wall. We didn't wait long for a seat because we sat down on the counter. I ordered the Chicken Friend Steak with 2 eggs, hash browns and white bread and my girlfriend ordered Hotlinks with eggs, hash browns and toasted wheat bread. We sat at the counter and waited for our food. It took over FIFTY minutes to get our food. It was busy but not THAT busy for this ridiculous wait. During the FIFTY minute wait for our food the waitress never stopped by to check on us or to let us know the food will be coming out soon. When we got our food we noticed that they gave us two orders of white bread instead of one order of wheat and one order of white. We also found a piece of hair in one of our plates. Overall- The food was decent at best and it is NOT worth the wait and the poor service. read more

We waited about 15 minutes for a spot on the counter. -1 star for the lipstick left on my girlfriend's "fresh" cup of orange juice. We watched our waitress take the cup and put it inside the refrigerator. Why not dump it immediately? Who knows what was done with the juice. -1 star for the open milk container inside the refrigerator. I'm not aware of food storage laws, but it didn't sit well with me knowing things could have gotten into that milk. -1 star for the eggs Benedict with corned beef hash. The hollandaise sauce was overly soupy and made everything turn into mush. Coffee wasn't the best and it could have been hotter. Everything else was alright. The family loaded up the truckster and headed down to Burlingame one fine Sunday morning to meet friends for breakfast. I had been to Stacks in Burlingame once before and wasn't interested in waiting in line again. Yelp to the rescue. I found Christie's and saw the many great reviews this place had received. That's it! That's where we are going and we will be howling with laughter as we pass by the poor souls lined up outside of Stacks. We found parking right outside of Christie's. They score points for this even though they had nothing to do with it. I was pleased that I wouldn't have to drive around and around the block to find parking. Walking up to Christie's we noted there was a small line but our friends had already scored a spot in line and we were seated right away. The wait seemed to be no more than 10 minutes for the folks who aren't clever enough to trick their friends into arriving a little early. The food at Christies was good and the portions were plentiful. However, I can't say that it was anything special. My Eggs Blackstone were luke warm when they arrived....no biggie - I was very hungry and warm is better than cold, right? Besides, who wants struggle to get the staff's attention as they hum around you taking orders? This place was busy so I ate my eggs before they got any colder. I'm sure that if I had managed to grab the waitress everything would have been taken care of appropriately. I can overlook sparse service when it is obvious the staff is busting chops to get food out on a busy morning. However, I do have a pet peeve when it comes to restaurants. And it involves the check. We decided to split the check 50/50 with our friends so we handed the waitress two cards and instructions to split the check. The bill was $50 and some change. When we received our receipts for signature we both had receipts for $26. In order to make the math easier on themselves they had rounded UP to the nearest even dollar amount. Now a couple of bucks either way is nothing to get riled up about. However, it is wholly unacceptable for an establishment to do this. Don't they have a calculator back there? For this reason alone I will not go back to Christie's in Burlingame. read more

Breakfast/lunch place with a friendly neighborhood and family vibe. It was bustling when we got there but didn't have to wait too long for a table. Extensive menu with many different breakfast and lunch choices. Chicken apple sausage omelette ($8.95) - a big 3-egg omelette sheet that wrapped around rather sparse pieces of sausage, onions, mushroom, and swiss inside. Was expecting a bit more oomph and taste, mushroom pieces were tiny and sausage portion was a bit weak. Came with a large serving of nicely browned hash browns and some buttered toast but the toast was cold when it got to us. The veggie omelette was just okay too. Service was reasonably friendly and attentive despite the busy place. HOWEVER, OUR FOOD TOOK 35-40 MINUTES TO GET TO US. If we were starving (which luckily we weren't too bad), we would have been pissed. And the food wait was the same for all the tables around us. Decor and personality are a bit uneven. When you walk in, the front counter part gives an old-fashioned feel to this place. But then the modern lights and decorations (and the room painted yellow in the back) convey a bistro-wannabe feel. Bottom line: I wanted to like this place a lot for its neighbood feel and huge portions but you have to wait forever for your food and the food was a bit disappointing. I'd recommend the scrambles instead of the omelettes. And come on, how hard is it to give us warm toast if you are making us wait so long for our food? read more

Christie's is a solid 5 star establishment. Some of the MANY positive points: Cute and friendly waitresses. (My guy flirted, and I approved.) Strong coffee. (You'll use all the cream on the table.) Choice of home fries or hash browns. (A definite plus since I hate onions and the hash browns come without them!) Fluffy, perfectly cooked eggs. Toast with just the right amount of butter. Great selection of breakfast and lunch items. Homey feel, clean, and not too cramped. I think I may become a regular here. I loved it. read more

I've been going to Christie's more recently within the last year as my regular breakfast spot after work on Friday mornings. This place has been around for a long time, I even have childhood memories of coming here with my family. The atmosphere is homely and warm, very inviting especially on those cold weekend mornings. The restaurant has regulars that add to the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and on top of refilling that water glass or coffee cup or even to check if everybody has eaten their fill. When it comes to food portions you definitely get what you pay for. Huge piles of hash browns/potatoes, extra fluffy pancakes, large strips of bacon or a fruit bowl with variety if asked. I've never had lunch here but I have seen the portions when my friends order and they are just as big. If you are a light eater or used to small portions, you will have leftovers. I do not give five stars out very often, but Christie's deserves every star. read more
