Came here with the family for a fun dinner experience, and it delivered on the vibe! The retro neon-lit décor is super Instagram-worthy, and the self-serve skewer bar concept is genuinely unique in the Valley. We grabbed a mix of wagyu beef, lamb, chicken, and veggies -- the quality of the meat was solid and everything tasted great fresh off the charcoal. The staff really made the experience. Everyone was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in, and they were attentive throughout the meal. When our charcoal started dying down, they came by and swapped it out without us even having to ask -- that kind of proactive service goes a long way, especially when you're managing kids at the grill. A few honest notes: the portion per skewer is on the smaller side (at $1.20-$1.30 each, it adds up fast if you want to actually feel full), so go in knowing this is more of a fun experience than a hearty meal. Also, if you're bringing younger kids, keep a close eye on the grilling -- the charcoal gets extremely hot and it can be tricky to tell when smaller pieces are fully cooked through. Parents should plan to manage the grill for little ones. Overall, a great spot for a social night out or a family outing -- just don't arrive starving. Would recommend getting the membership if you plan to come back!

Chubby Skewers is a fun place to go with your friends and out of towners! This is perfect place for chatting and hanging out. More of an interactive experience and cooking foods together. It's generally kid friendly as long as your kids don't like to reach and touch hot things. I generally enjoy getting the chicken parts and the beef that's less fatty. The brisket for me is a bit too fatty but that's not their fault. It's just the cut. The staff is always nice to us and very friendly. Pro tip is to ask for the skewer tool since it helps a lot with getting the meat off the skewer. If they see you struggling, sometimes they will bring to you. I think it's very important what time you go if you don't want to run into a crowd and a long wait. I don't recommend going on weekends around 6. Seems really busy and long wait since the place is generally cook your own food. Do the math but the membership can be worth it!

Saw this place mentioned on social media so I gathered a group of friends and we checked it out for dinner. The restaurant is a cook your own skewer at your table type of place. Setup is simple: they bring a charcoal cooking box to your table, you select as many or as few skewers you want from the coolers, cook them to your liking, and they charge you per skewer at the end. The options are many and varied. We had shrimp, scallops, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, lamb, teriyaki chicken, brisket, pineapple, bell peppers, wagyu, Toast, even roasted a spike of garlic. They provide cumin, a dry spicy rub, chili powder and sesame for flavor. I feel that an assortment of dipping sauces would compliment the setting, but they don't have them- that's the only thing keeping this food from being spectacular. All in all it's a fun place and a nice change from the norm. Definitely recommended.

So simple but amazing. Meat and pairings grilled over charcoal. A lot faster of a cook than KBBQ and a lot tastier. The meat which is already great quality gets so tender. My favorites are the black pepper wagyu and the lamb in the dry rub. The service is usually pretty quick. I highly recommend getting the subscription if you plan on going more than once, takes the skewer price down from 1.30 to 1.00. They have lots of available seating and do team service. Usually pretty clean and I love that they're open late. My go to after a long night!

Really making this Chubby Club membership worth it and trying things when out of state. Happened to be in the Mesa area and decided to try Chubby Skewers. A little crazy with reservations since it was Valentine's day, but they are open until 2AM. They have a menu for cooked items like the wagyu beef rice bowl, fried shrimp balls, and the cucumber salad (so good!). Fun and interactive concept grilling your own skewers. They charge for the charcoal and per person to use the seasonings. You also have to order your rice separately. Self serve skewer stations. So many options to choose from but our favorites were the pork and the variety of beef / wagyu skewers. Some meats have 2 skewers - double the price. They have a cheat sheet for how long to cook each specific meat. Overall a fun dining experience. Can't really comment on service too much since this was a DIY restaurant. They didn't really have to do anything or check-in on us since we're doing everything ourselves. Lol. I would love some sort of sauce to dip the meats in since the dusting of dry seasonings just tasted flat. All the skewers go in a metal canister and when you're done, the staff counts it infront of you. Between 4 adults, we did about 70 skewers. Which was not bad at all cost wise. *Chubby Club membership pricing is $1 per skewer, free charcoal, and free seasonings.

Stop by to try this chinese bbq place. We choose and pick the skewers in the fridge area our self then bring them to our table to grill (there is an instruction on the table for how long we need to grill them) once it done, we can add some spices that is provided on the table, but the skewers it self are already marinated and tasty even without additional spices. For me, since I like spicy, I add some chilli, cumin & dry spices. Its a new experience for the kids, they really enjoy to choose, grill then eat them. It was really fun and most importantly is that the food is delicious!!! Be cautious, you might be addicted and won't be able to stop eating ^_^.

We've gone to Chubby Skewers three times now and it's better now than it was during their first few months of opening. First visit: The options were lackluster, the service sucked and we left not wanting to come back. We hated everything on their menu except their skewers. We especially hated the stir fried noodles or the scallops in garlic sauce. Everything was so salty and inedible. Second time: good, better variety and service was a little better. We had no complaints but nothing wowed us. Third time: WAY better than previous visits. Service was fast and friendly. Good options on their menu now. Fried rice is insanely delicious, I was surprised and expected it to be average. Cucumber salad is always good. Malatang was full of ingredients and soo numbing. We ordered the Chinese pancake wraps but they dropped off tortillas... which we didn't understand. $6 for tortillas. If we wanted tortillas, we would have asked for tortillas. They should have let us know they were out of the wraps instead of dropping off tortillas so we don't order them lol. Skewers are still good and they have better variety now. They have unlimited Pepsi if you pay for the first round. Super loud and lively, so if that's not your thing, avoid.

If you're looking for a fun experience that feels like stepping into a late-night food market in China, Chubby's Skewers is definitely worth checking out. I stopped by around 11:30 PM because I couldn't sleep, and the place was still busy. One of the biggest advantages is that they're open very late--until midnight or even 2 AM depending on the day. There were still plenty of people arriving after midnight when I left, which tells you how popular it is. The atmosphere felt very authentic. The restaurant was smoky from the charcoal grills, and nearly everyone was speaking Chinese. Even the busboy and waitress had to use Google Translate to help explain some of the menu items to me, which honestly added to the experience. The food quality was solid, but for me the biggest draw was the overall experience of picking out skewers and cooking them over a charcoal fire. The Wagyu skewers were decent, and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms were good as well. I also enjoyed the crispy bread and Brussels sprouts. The standout dish for me was the fresh spicy cucumber and cilantro plate. It had a light, refreshing flavor that reminded me of a milder kimchi-style seasoning and was easily my favorite item of the night. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would absolutely go back for another late-night snack. If I drank alcohol, I imagine this place would be even more fun. Great atmosphere, unique experience, and a perfect option when you're craving something different late at night.

This place has a very interesting concept with a twist on Korean bbq with grilling your own meat. There is a metal hot box they set on your table filled with coals which you can set metal skewers of meat on top to cook. You walk over to the large refrigerators with about 8 doors and there are trays of meat, seafood, and a few veggies. I thought this was fun but the skewers of meat were about only 2" long at most. The restaurant charges you for everything, the coals, the spices mixes that you add to your skewers. I'm not sure why they don't include this in the price of the experience. There were other food items that you can order via a QR code on the table which we only ordered rice. The booths were very tight. So much so that you can't put your legs under the booth. Please opt for the tables instead of the booth. Overall felt it was a unique experience that I would do once. Not sure I would go back.

4/5 = food 3/5 = service I LOVE SKEWERS. I am so happy we have a dedicated skewer shop, but there were some issues (totally fixable). The restaurant is if neon signs threw up on everything; it's very bright in there, and it adds to the ambiance in my opinion. I personally liked the atmosphere that's created with all the lights. The restaurant used to be a KBBQ place, and you can tell they didn't rearrange anything, and found ways to make the current set up work for skewers as well. It's funny--the other night they were only playing KPOP, so the joke among my table is that they must have inherited the KBBQ's music playlist as well! The service was okay... it was interesting. Everything can be done via phone/QR code, but there were some issues that my group had found. We flagged down 4 different servers to help with our charcoal, and none of them did anything. Some said they'd call someone over, but no one ever came. Some looked us in the eyes, then walked away/quickly broke eye contact. Some we saw physically make eye contact with us, walk to another server and point at us, but... nothing happened after that. The only person who actually helped us seemed to be the manager. This leads me to my next point--both times I've gone, the charcoal grill was finicky. The left and ride sides would not heat up, so only the middle (can fit 3, maybe 4 skewers) would cook, and the cooking took FOREVER. You pretty much need to request a charcoal change as soon as you sit down, otherwise you're staring at your food in misery, especially if you go with a group of friends. One thing that made me question their training though was server food safety. The skewers are kept in these refrigerators that are all self-serve. I went back at one point to get more skewers, and I saw a server grab a drink from the drinks refrigerator right next to the meat. The server then walked away.... Which is normally fine, except that he clearly saw that one of the doors for the meat was wide open? Like, not just ajar; WIDE OPEN. There's no way he missed it. He just did not close the door/didn't care enough to close the door. I closed it immediately, but it's questionable considering we don't know how long the door was open? The wagyu, lamb, pork belly, and scallop skewers are the best in my opinion, but DO NOT GET THE COOKED LAMB SKEWERS. They are not good. read more

This place has potential and was fun to try, but I don't think I'd go back unless they make some changes. The skewers were okay--some seasonings were a bit off, but dipping them in salt or sesame made them taste better. It's definitely more of a hangout spot than a place to get a satisfying meal. The setup is a little chaotic. It's mostly self-serve, which is fine in theory, but kind of confusing in practice--especially when there are a bunch of staff around but they're not really doing much aside from seating you and occasionally checking in. The biggest issue was how they handle the food. You're expected to grab raw skewers from a fridge, and while they do offer gloves, they're off to the side near the napkins so it's easy to miss them. I saw people grabbing things with bare hands and even putting them back. Honestly, that kind of turned my stomach. I get that they're a new place, but letting customers handle raw food like that doesn't feel safe or sanitary. At other skewer places I've been to in CA, you order what you want and they bring it to your table--way cleaner, way less stressful. I'd love to see them move to something like that. Also, it was weird being asked to leave a 5-star review in exchange for a discount on sauces and charcoal. I told the server I didn't feel right about doing that, and she was nice about it and still gave me the discount, which I appreciated. I added the savings to the tip, but looking back, I'm not sure what I was tipping so much for since it's mostly self-service--a 10% tip would've been more than fair. If they fix the food-handling process and make it more organized (similar to their Chubby Cattle KBBQ model where you order via screen and it's brought out) I'd consider coming back. Until then, I don't feel comfortable risking a food poisoning for the sake of "fun" to eat. read more

We went roughly 30 minutes after they opened on a Friday and it was BUSY! Although it was busy, they were still very fast with seating us and the service was consistently quick. The staff was very attentive and refilled drinks often as well! Definitely recommend coming in a smaller party as it takes a little longer to seat bigger parties. I highly recommend for people to go at more off hours! It's very hectic during their busier times especially because their concept is more self-service buffet style. Because they were so busy, my table also had to wait a while for our second charcoal box. Following that, I also recommend you go with a smaller group or just with one other person. You only get one small charcoal grill box per table vent, so you end up having to wait a while for people to grill their own skewers before you can get to yours. For the skewers, you go pick them up yourself at the fridge and condiments area. The area is rather small, so it can get crowded and chaotic as there isn't a clear line start and end section. Sometimes meats will fall off the skewer and onto the floor as customers are grabbing them, so there will be raw meats lying out on the floor. There are gloves available, but they're hard to see. They're located on the side wall of the condiments area. The skewer handles for the raw meats are greasy and can have raw juices on them, so gloves are a must. Spacing between tables is also rather tight, so you have to carefully weave your way through past other customers and employees carrying food and hot coal boxes. The raw meats do come salted and seasoned, but it's light. It was perfect for my partner and me, but my tablemates felt that the meat needed way more seasonings. The seasonings are an extra $6 charge that you cannot opt out of unless they're doing a promotion (like right now during their soft opening). So I would say to try their seasonings! The coal box is also normally an additional $3 charge, but it can be waived with their promotion. My partner and I liked most of the skewers we tried. The only miss was the lotus root one, which has a strange aftertaste. Each skewer is only $1.20, but they're teeny tiny, so it'll add up if you want to be full. We also got a side order of the spicy cucumber salad and celtuce salad. The cucumber salad was really good and balanced out well with the meats. The celtuce salad was too heavy handed with the sesame oil. Overall, my partner and I would return again at a less busy time. Star rating could be bumped up if they were able to add more organization and some kind of queue system for the skewer and condiments area. Very convenient to scroll through the different categories and everything has pics to help you decide what to order. Once you have your selections in your cart, you just send your order to the kitchen. You can do this for multiple rounds, basically just small to medium sized orders until you feel like you're at a good stopping point. The first thing to select is the broths. You can choose 2 broths or 4 broths. For our group size, the server recommended 2 broths so everything can heat up and cook quickly. We got the tom yum soup and the three delicacies soup base (seafood, mushrooms, jujubes). We also got an assortment of meats, veggies, etc. The tom yum soup was by far our favorite. The other one was too bland. Honestly I didn't know what all meats we ordered, just that they were delicious. Some other highlights were: pork dumplings, potato noodles, etc. We also got the signature dancing noodle, which I thought was purely for show, but the noodle itself was really great - super chewy. Haidilao is great for groups, especially so you can try a little bit of everything. It's not exactly cheap, but it's for the experience and meats are naturally on the more expensive end. My friends and I checked out this Chinese BBQ spot yesterday evening, and it was such a fun dining experience! It got pretty busy for a Sunday night, but we were luckily seated almost immediately (probably because we came at a slightly off time). From the moment we walked up, you could already smell the sizzling meat and delicious aromas from outside the restaurant. The concept of this restaurant takes inspiration from Korean barbecue, but with its own unique twist. There's a refrigerator in the corner stocked with a wide variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables. You simply grab what you want, load it onto a tray, bring it back to your table, and roast everything yourself over charcoal. There is about a $5 charcoal and management fee per table, which felt reasonable. Ordering drinks and additional entrees is also super convenient - you just scan the QR code at your table and order directly from your phone. We opted for the all-you-can-drink Pepsi, and the servers were incredibly attentive about making sure our glasses were always full. My favorite skewers were definitely the black pepper wagyu and the lean A5 beef. You can also add seasoning to whatever meat or skewers you choose, including but not limited to sesame, dry spice, chilli flakes, etc. I also really loved the zucchini and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms, which were surprisingly addictive. We decided to order a few extra dishes as well, including the Wagyu fried rice, lychee shrimp balls, and the deconstructed s'mores for dessert. Every single item was delicious, and I would order them again. Pricing is straightforward: each skewer is $1.50, or $1 if you sign up for their $58 annual membership. At the end of the meal, they simply count how many skewers your table collected to determine the final bill. One small detail that really stood out to me was the hospitality. We were super excited when we found out there's a Chubby restaurant here in Arizona! We've tried Chubby Cattle BBQ and The Xpot in Vegas and loved both, so we had high hopes. They open at 4:30 PM, and there was already a line when we showed up. Once we sat down, the server told us there's a $1.98 dry spice fee per person and a $3.99 charcoal fee. I couldn't help but think, Korean BBQ spots never charge you just to use the grill! And the spice fee? Felt like getting charged for soy sauce at a Chinese restaurant. Each metal skewer is $1.20 unless you join their membership, which drops it to $1. But heads up, some items come with two sticks, so you're charged for both. The meat portions? Super small. Like three tiny pieces, basically one bite. And don't expect fancy presentation, it's paper plates and disposable chopsticks. I joked that if they gave us real plates and utensils, they'd probably tack on another "mandatory" fee. It's all self-serve. You grab your food from the fridge, cook it yourself, and even get your own water. Ambiance- very cool Unique place where you pick your own food out of refrigerators and cook them at your table. You can also order extras like rice to be delivered. Food- wide selection but not much flavor. Service- We went when it was very crowded. But still waited 15 minutes to check out. You order online so you need to be sure to close out the app. I had to go get someone to get our waiter. Note- they charge you for seasonings (even if you don't use them) and the use of the cooktop. Together, they add up to about $5. I was told if I gave a glowing Google review they would knock that price off. The cost can be cheaper or very reasonable, but it adds up if you aren't mindful. Overall- We liked it and we will return. It's a fun place and family friendly. We saw a lot of generations there. read more
