Came here with the family for a fun dinner experience, and it delivered on the vibe! The retro neon-lit décor is super Instagram-worthy, and the self-serve skewer bar concept is genuinely unique in the Valley. We grabbed a mix of wagyu beef, lamb, chicken, and veggies -- the quality of the meat was solid and everything tasted great fresh off the charcoal. The staff really made the experience. Everyone was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in, and they were attentive throughout the meal. When our charcoal started dying down, they came by and swapped it out without us even having to ask -- that kind of proactive service goes a long way, especially when you're managing kids at the grill. A few honest notes: the portion per skewer is on the smaller side (at $1.20-$1.30 each, it adds up fast if you want to actually feel full), so go in knowing this is more of a fun experience than a hearty meal. Also, if you're bringing younger kids, keep a close eye on the grilling -- the charcoal gets extremely hot and it can be tricky to tell when smaller pieces are fully cooked through. Parents should plan to manage the grill for little ones. Overall, a great spot for a social night out or a family outing -- just don't arrive starving. Would recommend getting the membership if you plan to come back!

Chubby Skewers is a fun place to go with your friends and out of towners! This is perfect place for chatting and hanging out. More of an interactive experience and cooking foods together. It's generally kid friendly as long as your kids don't like to reach and touch hot things. I generally enjoy getting the chicken parts and the beef that's less fatty. The brisket for me is a bit too fatty but that's not their fault. It's just the cut. The staff is always nice to us and very friendly. Pro tip is to ask for the skewer tool since it helps a lot with getting the meat off the skewer. If they see you struggling, sometimes they will bring to you. I think it's very important what time you go if you don't want to run into a crowd and a long wait. I don't recommend going on weekends around 6. Seems really busy and long wait since the place is generally cook your own food. Do the math but the membership can be worth it!

Saw this place mentioned on social media so I gathered a group of friends and we checked it out for dinner. The restaurant is a cook your own skewer at your table type of place. Setup is simple: they bring a charcoal cooking box to your table, you select as many or as few skewers you want from the coolers, cook them to your liking, and they charge you per skewer at the end. The options are many and varied. We had shrimp, scallops, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, lamb, teriyaki chicken, brisket, pineapple, bell peppers, wagyu, Toast, even roasted a spike of garlic. They provide cumin, a dry spicy rub, chili powder and sesame for flavor. I feel that an assortment of dipping sauces would compliment the setting, but they don't have them- that's the only thing keeping this food from being spectacular. All in all it's a fun place and a nice change from the norm. Definitely recommended.

So simple but amazing. Meat and pairings grilled over charcoal. A lot faster of a cook than KBBQ and a lot tastier. The meat which is already great quality gets so tender. My favorites are the black pepper wagyu and the lamb in the dry rub. The service is usually pretty quick. I highly recommend getting the subscription if you plan on going more than once, takes the skewer price down from 1.30 to 1.00. They have lots of available seating and do team service. Usually pretty clean and I love that they're open late. My go to after a long night!

Really making this Chubby Club membership worth it and trying things when out of state. Happened to be in the Mesa area and decided to try Chubby Skewers. A little crazy with reservations since it was Valentine's day, but they are open until 2AM. They have a menu for cooked items like the wagyu beef rice bowl, fried shrimp balls, and the cucumber salad (so good!). Fun and interactive concept grilling your own skewers. They charge for the charcoal and per person to use the seasonings. You also have to order your rice separately. Self serve skewer stations. So many options to choose from but our favorites were the pork and the variety of beef / wagyu skewers. Some meats have 2 skewers - double the price. They have a cheat sheet for how long to cook each specific meat. Overall a fun dining experience. Can't really comment on service too much since this was a DIY restaurant. They didn't really have to do anything or check-in on us since we're doing everything ourselves. Lol. I would love some sort of sauce to dip the meats in since the dusting of dry seasonings just tasted flat. All the skewers go in a metal canister and when you're done, the staff counts it infront of you. Between 4 adults, we did about 70 skewers. Which was not bad at all cost wise. *Chubby Club membership pricing is $1 per skewer, free charcoal, and free seasonings.

Stop by to try this chinese bbq place. We choose and pick the skewers in the fridge area our self then bring them to our table to grill (there is an instruction on the table for how long we need to grill them) once it done, we can add some spices that is provided on the table, but the skewers it self are already marinated and tasty even without additional spices. For me, since I like spicy, I add some chilli, cumin & dry spices. Its a new experience for the kids, they really enjoy to choose, grill then eat them. It was really fun and most importantly is that the food is delicious!!! Be cautious, you might be addicted and won't be able to stop eating ^_^.

We've gone to Chubby Skewers three times now and it's better now than it was during their first few months of opening. First visit: The options were lackluster, the service sucked and we left not wanting to come back. We hated everything on their menu except their skewers. We especially hated the stir fried noodles or the scallops in garlic sauce. Everything was so salty and inedible. Second time: good, better variety and service was a little better. We had no complaints but nothing wowed us. Third time: WAY better than previous visits. Service was fast and friendly. Good options on their menu now. Fried rice is insanely delicious, I was surprised and expected it to be average. Cucumber salad is always good. Malatang was full of ingredients and soo numbing. We ordered the Chinese pancake wraps but they dropped off tortillas... which we didn't understand. $6 for tortillas. If we wanted tortillas, we would have asked for tortillas. They should have let us know they were out of the wraps instead of dropping off tortillas so we don't order them lol. Skewers are still good and they have better variety now. They have unlimited Pepsi if you pay for the first round. Super loud and lively, so if that's not your thing, avoid.

If you're looking for a fun experience that feels like stepping into a late-night food market in China, Chubby's Skewers is definitely worth checking out. I stopped by around 11:30 PM because I couldn't sleep, and the place was still busy. One of the biggest advantages is that they're open very late--until midnight or even 2 AM depending on the day. There were still plenty of people arriving after midnight when I left, which tells you how popular it is. The atmosphere felt very authentic. The restaurant was smoky from the charcoal grills, and nearly everyone was speaking Chinese. Even the busboy and waitress had to use Google Translate to help explain some of the menu items to me, which honestly added to the experience. The food quality was solid, but for me the biggest draw was the overall experience of picking out skewers and cooking them over a charcoal fire. The Wagyu skewers were decent, and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms were good as well. I also enjoyed the crispy bread and Brussels sprouts. The standout dish for me was the fresh spicy cucumber and cilantro plate. It had a light, refreshing flavor that reminded me of a milder kimchi-style seasoning and was easily my favorite item of the night. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would absolutely go back for another late-night snack. If I drank alcohol, I imagine this place would be even more fun. Great atmosphere, unique experience, and a perfect option when you're craving something different late at night.

This place has a very interesting concept with a twist on Korean bbq with grilling your own meat. There is a metal hot box they set on your table filled with coals which you can set metal skewers of meat on top to cook. You walk over to the large refrigerators with about 8 doors and there are trays of meat, seafood, and a few veggies. I thought this was fun but the skewers of meat were about only 2" long at most. The restaurant charges you for everything, the coals, the spices mixes that you add to your skewers. I'm not sure why they don't include this in the price of the experience. There were other food items that you can order via a QR code on the table which we only ordered rice. The booths were very tight. So much so that you can't put your legs under the booth. Please opt for the tables instead of the booth. Overall felt it was a unique experience that I would do once. Not sure I would go back.

I love this place so much! The food is delicious, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

The skewers are very small, as shown in the picture. I ate 15 skewers, and even with rice, I didn't feel full. The A5 wagyu didn't taste like wagyu; it felt more like regular beef. Chubby Skewers definitely has some kinks to work out. Since they're still in their soft opening, I'll rate them this for now, but I'm really hoping they step up their game to match the quality of their SoCal spot. We were excited to try this location, but unfortunately, it fell a bit short. We noticed that we had to be super careful about which skewers we picked; when choosing multiples of the same meat, some were noticeably smaller than others, which felt a little inconsistent. My biggest gripe was with the charcoal setup. There was just way too much of it, piled so high that a good portion of my meat skewers kept touching the actual charcoal, especially the chicken skin ones. It seemed like the meat wasn't skewered on all the way, which contributed to this problem and resulted in some pieces of meat picking up bits of charcoal. Then, I was pretty disappointed with the scallops with noodles. They were visibly burnt, which is a real shame because I was looking forward to them. Out of the half dozen we ordered, four were grilled way too long, and the noodles were stuck to the shell, requiring us to scrape them off with our chopsticks. On a positive note, the wait staff was very nice, which definitely made the experience more pleasant despite the food issues. Overall, the potential is there, but the execution needs some serious refinement. I'm rooting for them to iron out these issues and improve this location. read more

The food you cook yourself over a small charcoal grill, which is small, so if you have a big party be prepared to wait. They didn't have all the seasonings and suaces yet that other locations have. They also didn't have a lot of the cooked dishes on the menu. It was fun. My husband was mad becuase halfway through we found out someone had switched the tags for salt and sugar and he had seasoned all his skewers with sugar. The restraunt made it right and replaced all the uncooked skewers we had. Good experience, long wait. It has a great vibe. Loud and fun, definitely feels like a cool late night spot. If you're a fan of real, smoky flavors -- this place is a must-visit. TLDR: Was crazy busy, super loud, was misled about the $1 skewers, membership not worth it, asked/oversaw writing of Yelp review, food meh, and you're really just paying for the experience. Will not be coming back. I wouldn't come back here for a while, if ever again! I believe since it's somewhat new, they are still trying to get the hang of things. First time coming to this place, saw it on Instagram. They said if I download the app, I could get the skewers for a $1 each instead of $1.20 each. It was super loud and hard to hear the servers. Some of the people didn't seem to know what to do or they were overwhelmed. I was a little confused and it was just hard to hear anyone. They said something about their app not being set up completely or something like that. They charge for the sauces and something else I couldn't hear; both cost $5.97 together automatically. They said if we get the membership/account (can't remember which word they said),it would come off when we showed them. The little promotional sign I thought was just trying to get people to get the app and sign up. Like with a lot of restaurants and their memberships, you don't have to pay anything. You just sign up and scan your QR code, bar code, phone number, or email to get points. It seems you can only get those perks with a "membership." Just the app and an account isn't enough for the benefits on the little card. They have two memberships: Chubby Club One and Chubby Club Plus. I am not sure if only one or both can qualify for the $1 skewers. Chubby Club One is $28.00/yr($2.33/mo) Chubby Club Plus is $58.00/yr($4.83/mo) It doesn't make much sense for the subscription/membership unless you travel to where all the other restaurants/locations to justify that cost for just trying to save .20 cents. The only places I could see where it is useful is if you are in California, Nevada, and New York. If not, it's a complete waste of money. Also, if you want to have an account just to get points, you need to scan that receipt at the restaurant before you leave, or it won't let you do it later. And you have to scan the entire piece of paper, not just a little QR code. When we were trying to get the check, I showed the server my app, but I didn't have the membership. (I didn't have all the knowledge beforehand.) I couldn't hear him well, but he was pointing me to another QR code. It lead me to their Yelp page and said he can discount my meal for a review, and he needed to see it. Something along those lines. I did it, but it was a little uncomfortable that they had to see it to make sure I did it. Like it was coaxed out of me to make a positive review. I thought it made sense since the app wasn't working completely. "Albert was amazing. The only thing is it's a little loud; it was hard to hear the servers. It's a little confusing the first time about cooking. So please look at the time guides they have." When he came back, he showed me his tablet to make sure everything was correct, but I was just so overwhelmed with everything else. I just nodded my head. To get it over with. It felt weird when it came to adding the tip, just like there's a lot of extra pressure for some reason. I was under the impression that I was going to get the sauces off and be charged the $1 skewers. Looking at my receipt, I was charged $1.20, but they took the $5.97 off. I don't like how I was misled with the $1 skewers but say that's my fault for not reading the fine print or not being able to hear the servers. Okay, I get that. But the whole Yelp review just gives me a bad taste in my mouth. The food was okay but not great. I would say you are paying for the experience. Got a bad experience, will not be coming again. read more

Good have such chinese bbq in town. It is a bit pricey and the portion of food is small, it is like the size for food sampling at $1.20 each. The charge for using the spices at the table and set up the grill is ridiculous, these are the basic set up and shouldn't be charged. For the overall experience, paying the spices, paying the set up the grill, all food are cooking by yourself, pretty much you can do it yourself at home and make no different. Like it to have street type of food but less likely going back as it is pricey (2 people with tips $82). The services and the staffs are super friendly. Of course, had to wait for the hype to die down before checking it out. Once there, the server explained the process - basically you just place all your orders through the iPad that's on the table. Very convenient to scroll through the different categories and everything has pics to help you decide what to order. Once you have your selections in your cart, you just send your order to the kitchen. You can do this for multiple rounds, basically just small to medium sized orders until you feel like you're at a good stopping point. The first thing to select is the broths. You can choose 2 broths or 4 broths. For our group size, the server recommended 2 broths so everything can heat up and cook quickly. We got the tom yum soup and the three delicacies soup base (seafood, mushrooms, jujubes). We also got an assortment of meats, veggies, etc. The tom yum soup was by far our favorite. The other one was too bland. Honestly I didn't know what all meats we ordered, just that they were delicious. Some other highlights were: pork dumplings, potato noodles, etc. We also got the signature dancing noodle, which I thought was purely for show, but the noodle itself was really great - super chewy. Haidilao is great for groups, especially so you can try a little bit of everything. It's not exactly cheap, but it's for the experience and meats are naturally on the more expensive end. Our total per person ended up being around $50. If your group orders more high end option, it could easily skew closer to $75. Had a great time here, would come back!!

The broths lacked the depth and richness I was hoping for, and overall the meal felt more focused on presentation and service than creating memorable flavors. And even then, the service wasn't great. I frequently had to flag down the waitress for a refill or help. If you're looking for a first hot pot experience, celebrating with kids, or want the novelty of the noodle show, you may enjoy it. But if you're already familiar with hot pot and are coming primarily for the food, you may find it hard to justify the price. For us, the experience was memorable (and only because it was our first time trying this place). The meal itself definitely wasn't.

My friends and I checked out this Chinese BBQ spot yesterday evening, and it was such a fun dining experience! It got pretty busy for a Sunday night, but we were luckily seated almost immediately (probably because we came at a slightly off time). From the moment we walked up, you could already smell the sizzling meat and delicious aromas from outside the restaurant. The concept of this restaurant takes inspiration from Korean barbecue, but with its own unique twist. There's a refrigerator in the corner stocked with a wide variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables. You simply grab what you want, load it onto a tray, bring it back to your table, and roast everything yourself over charcoal. There is about a $5 charcoal and management fee per table, which felt reasonable. Ordering drinks and additional entrees is also super convenient - you just scan the QR code at your table and order directly from your phone. We opted for the all-you-can-drink Pepsi, and the servers were incredibly attentive about making sure our glasses were always full. My favorite skewers were definitely the black pepper wagyu and the lean A5 beef. You can also add seasoning to whatever meat or skewers you choose, including but not limited to sesame, dry spice, chilli flakes, etc. I also really loved the zucchini and the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms, which were surprisingly addictive. We decided to order a few extra dishes as well, including the Wagyu fried rice, lychee shrimp balls, and the deconstructed s'mores for dessert. Every single item was delicious, and I would order them again. Pricing is straightforward: each skewer is $1.50, or $1 if you sign up for their $58 annual membership. At the end of the meal, they simply count how many skewers your table collected to determine the final bill. One small detail that really stood out to me was the hospitality. The host noticed we had purses and kindly brought over an extra chair so we wouldn't have to place them on the floor. Overall, this was a great dinner experience. We were super excited when we found out there's a Chubby restaurant here in Arizona! We've tried Chubby Cattle BBQ and The Xpot in Vegas and loved both, so we had high hopes. They open at 4:30 PM, and there was already a line when we showed up. Once we sat down, the server told us there's a $1.98 dry spice fee per person and a $3.99 charcoal fee. I couldn't help but think, Korean BBQ spots never charge you just to use the grill! And the spice fee? Felt like getting charged for soy sauce at a Chinese restaurant. Each metal skewer is $1.20 unless you join their membership, which drops it to $1. But heads up, some items come with two sticks, so you're charged for both. The meat portions? Super small. Like three tiny pieces, basically one bite. And don't expect fancy presentation, it's paper plates and disposable chopsticks. I joked that if they gave us real plates and utensils, they'd probably tack on another "mandatory" fee. It's all self-serve. You grab your food from the fridge, cook it yourself, and even get your own water. The fridge area gets crowded quick, and if you want to order something else, just scan a QR code, no one's coming by to take your order. The skewers were okay, not bad, just nothing special. Food- wide selection but not much flavor. Service- We went when it was very crowded. But still waited 15 minutes to check out. You order online so you need to be sure to close out the app. I had to go get someone to get our waiter. Note- they charge you for seasonings (even if you don't use them) and the use of the cooktop. Together, they add up to about $5. I was told if I gave a glowing Google review they would knock that price off. The cost can be cheaper or very reasonable, but it adds up if you aren't mindful. Overall- We liked it and we will return. It's a fun place and family friendly. We saw a lot of generations there. read more

Just tried Xing Fu Skewers and I'm seriously impressed! The skewers are flavorful, juicy, and grilled to perfection. You can really taste the spice and aroma in every bite -- reminds me of authentic street food from China. The menu has a great variety, from lamb and beef to seafood and veggies. The spicy dry pot and grilled wings were also amazing. The atmosphere is casual but clean, and the staff are super friendly and helpful with recommendations. An amazing and unique experience. The actual meats and skewers are phenomenal quality and it made us really happy how authentically Chinese it felt; all the way down to the chant from staff members for each new customer. The bright light up signs around the restaurant and the bustle of people conversing made it feel like eating street food in the middle of the city. Word to the wise for anyone, read the grill cheat sheet for how to use the spices at the table to make your sauce. I'm coming back. I might even do the membership. I've been waiting for a proper Shao Kao restaurant in Arizona for the longest time. My only fix was traveling to California for the weekend and going to a Chinese BBQ place there. Now, I can finally eat to my heart's content, in Arizona. The meat is grilled over charcoal, which gives the meat an incredibly deep flavor, and they have a variety of kitchen menu items as well.
