I called multiple stores to get a quote on how much it'd cost to fix my brakes and this place did it for half the price. I have to say that when you first drive in, parking can be a little difficult to find since they're coupled with a gas station, but I think some people park in the restaurant parking spaces next door. I did have to wait a few hours for my car because they had a bunch of cars in line that they had to service - I would not recommend going on a Monday afternoon since they're closed on Sundays, but there are a bunch of stores close-by, as well as SJSU, so I would recommend just killing time at the library. I was also very surprised because they quoted me a price on the phone for $180, but when I went to pick up my car, they said my total was $150 (not sure if it's because I only needed to fix my back brakes vs. my front brakes). Nevertheless, I was happy with the service I received, and I would come back in the future. read more

Came by for a fill up the other day and it was quick and easy. Fuel payment island was in good working order and accepted Arco Gift Cards (Purchase from Safeway to use your credit card). Fuel payment island was well stocked of receipt paper too! Fuel pump was in good working order and both paper towels and squeegees were also available for use. There comes a time in a persons life when he realizes he's in the presence of genius, and then great values to top it all off. I was introduced to Dan by my brother. He said "check him out, see for yourself." So my check engine light was on, Dan got his little plug-in to the computer gizmo out, and bam my gas cap wasn't screwed on right. Could have bent me over the barstool and said I'm driving, but that's where those great values shine through. My sister, my brother and my wife all take their cars to Dan. 11:59AM - I lock my office to get my oil changed during my lunch break. I drive up to CAC and they promptly accommodate me. Change oil. I pay and leave. I drive back to work and park my car. I get out of my car and realize that I dropped my work ID - including my access cards into the building (uh-oh!) I get back in my car and drive back to CAC. Find my ID right next to where they were working on my car (I dropped it crawling back in) Drove back to work and parked my car again. Walked to grab my lunch. Grabbed it. I took my Subaru here for an oil change after I had called in. Since there were good reviews, I called and an attendant told me to come in at around 2:30pm for my service. I arrived there at around 2:40, and even with a car being serviced before me, I was out of there within 30 minutes!!! AND since I brought my own oil and filter, it was only $12!! The mechanic even brought my car out to where I was waiting and he checked the oil level once more to make sure there was a satisfactory amount. The only reasons why I gave it three stars is because I had my baby niece with me and there wasn't a waiting room that we could hang out in that was warm. Also, after asking the mechanic for a receipt, he told me there was a tag that he'd left in my car. After leaving, I realized that he meant that he left a tag on my window to tell me when to get my next oil change... Quick, inexpensive and they get the job done. read more

We've gotten our cars serviced here for a few years now and we've always been quite happy. I went there at first based on a recommendation from a friend of mine who knows much more about cars than I do. He indicated that Dan, the mechanic there, was reasonably priced and knew what he was doing. My friend was right on both points. We brought our broken down 1998 Ford Escort to him. It had blown a head gasket and the engine needed to be replaced. We got all these high estimates from other mechanics but when I brought it to Dan, he gave me a much lower estimate and also was able to fix the air condition that hadn't worked in years. HeSaid: I took my car (Oldsmobile Intrigue) here for an oil change today. I found this place on Yelp, and even though it only had 2 reviews, they were both good. When I called this morning, I was told an oil change would take about 20 minutes if they weren't busy, and would cost $20. When I arrived (about an hour later, after running errands), there were several cars in the bays, and I was told it would be about an hour. Also, Dan told me that they didn't have my specific oil filter in stock (the Olds Intrigue uses a weird unique filter, and lots of places don't always have it). I asked if I could bring my own back, and was told yes. I went out to run more errands, and came back about 2 hours later with my own filter (it cost me $10 at Kragen). Dan took my car, and I sat on the curb about 4 feet from where it was being worked on by another mechanic, who was methodical and careful. The entire process took about 15 minutes, and there didn't seem to be any problems. Nobody tried to up-sell me any air filters, wipers, other services, etc. I was in and out and quickly, and the total bill (with tax!) was only $20, which was pretty cheap for an oil change!! This would be a 5-star review for me, except for having to go buy my own oil filter, and having the same price quoted whether they provided one or I bought it. But, really, for $20 ($30 with the filter), it's still a great price, and with no hassles like at other quick-lube places. I'd definitely go back! read more

I've been going back to City Auto Care for about 5/6 years now but until today, they've been only oil changes. So today I was planning on doing the "usual" oil change but only for my mom's recently purchased used car. I arrived and I was relieved that there was only one car being serviced. I parked up to one of the lifts and started waiting just outside. As other yelpers have stated, there isn't a waiting area, so I just sat down on the curb. As the mechanic lifted up my moms 97' Ranger, he soon noticed that there was something wrong. I heard him call for me and as I approached him I already had strong suspicion of what he was about to say. You see, my MAIN mechanic had thoroughly went over the truck about a month ago and said that the truck had an oil leak. Apparently the truck's engine was not "sitting" correctly in the engine well and had to be raised and mounts re-set. My mechanic had said that it was a fairly big job in the neighborhood of about $500. Going back to today, I walked over knowing firsthand what he was going to point out. I told him that I was fully aware of the condition and to just go ahead with the oil change for now. I proceeded to take my seat and then heard him call me out about a minute later. I walked over and he said that he wasn't comfortable changing the oil because he said that the truck was/is "dangerous to drive" in its current state. He quoted ME AN UNBELIEVABLE PRICE and I said, "let's do it!" I then proceeded to pay him CASH, no longer carry CC's, but I was about $30 short. He talked to the manager, Mr. Dan, who graciously accepted. I dropped off shortly after 1 PM and it was finished by 5 PM. The drive home was so smooth and I'm looking forward to taking my mom to the Indian Casino in her truck! read more

Came here on a random Friday afternoon for an oil change. It's located in the same lot as the gas station. I got there around 4 PM, and drove off around 4:30 pm. I waited about 15 minutes to get my oil changed, and the same amount of time to actually get my car serviced. The pricing was ok, a tad higher than I am used to paying for Vietnamese service- $25. I like that it is semi-fast and conveniently located nearby SJSU and my home. read more

I came in on a Wednesday with a LOT of last minute repairs before a big trip on Friday. They managed to get everything done by 11 on Thursday without judgement for how poorly I'd taken care of my car (very very poorly). Thus far, I'm very satisfied with the level of service: Fast, Reasonable Price and Trustworthy. I always bring in my car here for service except those needs programming which I can do my own :) Dropped my car, and picked up my car after work. Do not come here. I have come here to get a tune up on my car and shortly after leaving my engine light went on. I came back and informed them that the light had not been on prior and the mechanic denied it only until realizing that they left a vacuum hose unplugged. Sure enough after reconnecting it , it worked. For some reason, I decided to come back for a smog check and an hour into it another mechanic told me his machine stopped working. Love this place. Started coming here because I went to San Jose State and it's super close. I noticed the gas station first which has the lowest prices in the area. Then I realized I could get some auto repair done here as well. I needed a last minute oil change so I stopped in and they took me right away. I've now had 6 oil changes here and I literally never wait long at all, max maybe 10 minutes. They know what they're doing and are professional. No waiting room, but if you ask they will kindly give you an extra chair to sit on in the shade. I'm used to these type of shops back home. During an oil change they even noticed an oil leak that they quickly assessed and offered to fix on the spot for a much cheaper price than many other local shops. I stopped in on a Saturday morning hoping for a smog check. Within an hour my review was complete, and the service friendly. It would be nice if there was seating, but with quick service it wasnt really needed. I would recommend to anyone. Full smog check for about $60. read more

Was pretty happy with their service for the last few years. Our junker 2003 Buick was having engine problems and Dan replaced the engine for a reasonable price. The reason for the lower review is that when we took the car in to check a leak and do an oil change, mechanics were quick to say they could not find out where the leak was coming from and just did the oil change. Took the car to another mechanic and it turns out the engine manifold should have been replaced at the same time so a repair that would have cost us $150 if done at the same time as the engine replacement now cost $650 with the additional labor costs. City Auto does do quick oil changes. read more
