One of our go to for carry out. We love everything on the menu, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the items. Our favorite is the family pack - 1 lb pulled pork, buns, 2 pint sides and cornbread for $25. This is so large it can feed us for 3 meals (great deal!). We also catered City Barbeque for one of my son's birthdays. Everyone raved about it and we were really happy that there were some leftovers so we could eat it again the next day. Our favorite sides: green beans with bacon, corn pudding, cornbread and the gumbo (spicy). My husband loves that they have a spicy BBQ sauce which he slathers on everything. How the hell do you run out of ribs by 6:00 on a Saturday?! Once, I ordered online and paid and when I got there they told me they ran out of ribs and asked if I wanted to substitute chicken. Really?! Chicken for ribs? No way! I asked for brisket instead.... You guessed it. Out of brisket too. last week I got online to place an order for two slabs and once again, no ribs. I'm done. With young kids and no family nearby, my hubby and I try to do "date night in" once a week. We decided to try City Barbeque out tonight...we have a new favorite BBQ place! I got the smoked turkey sandwich. It. Was. Fantastic!! So moist and flavorful! The bun was nothing special but the turkey and BBQ sauce (my hubby brought home a little cup of each kind of BBQ sauce so I could pick which one I wanted) - holy cow!! It was nothing short of spectacular! A pure symphony of flavor! (I'm not even kidding...it wasn't a cheap sandwich but it was SO worth it!) My hubby got the brisket sandwich. I'm VERY picky about brisket. He let me have a tiny taste of his brisket and I could taste why he didn't want to share more than that! It was also an amazing, flavorful sandwich. I havent had bbq this good in a very long time. The pulled pork was SO tender!! Brushfire sauce was perfect. Just the right amount of kick. Didnt need to add extra hot sauce. I'm the fool that avoided coming to this place since it opened. I'm the idiot that wouldn't take his wife here because I don't trust bbq chains. I think we all know famous Daves is just awful and it built up a scotoma for me on bbq chain restaurants. Tonight I apologize to City BBQ. You are amazing. Tonight I'm the hero because I talked my family out of take out Chinese and brought them here. Since we came in as a family we ate as a family and ordered the family meal. The pulled pork is amazing. Honestly, it can be eaten by itself without any sauce according to my kids. However, I'm not like my children because I prefer the sauce. City BBQ put time into the sauce as it took me back to my experiences of having bbq in Kansas City 6 years ago. The best part of the meal was the cornbread. I'm not a sweet cornbread guy. To me sweet cornbread should have icing with a cupcake wrapper attached. This was not sweet to me and it reminded me of my Grandma Ethel's cornbread. So as previously noted, I'm a little picky about BBQ. I think it's usually overpriced and not very good unless it's a place that specializes in it (and even among those that specialize in it, it's still often not done well). But I like this place a lot, even if I didn't love it, for a variety of reasons. The BBQ sauce is very good if not great. Same with the pulled pork. The baked beans are terrific - they have brisket in them and go great with any of the BBQ sauces or the hot sauce (it's in a tall, clear, unmarked bottle). The ribs are St. Louis style, so they crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, which is actually not my favorite but I was prepared for that and actually liked them quite a bit. The prices are reasonable for what you're getting, and it helps that there's no table service, so there's no one to tip. You order at a counter and they hand you the food. Condiments and drinks are at a station around the corner. Sauces are on the table. It's do it yourself, which I love, Central BBQ in Memphis (one of the best BBQ joints in the history of BBQ joints, IMO) is very similar in how it's set up. Also, one of the gentlemen who works there goofed up but made up for it in a terrific way. I was eating alone (I almost always eat alone. If you see a guy in his 40's on the NE side of Indy in a restaurant by himself, chances are that's me) and had gotten up to refill my iced tea. One of the employees thought I had left and gathered up my not even halfway eaten food to throw away. I caught him in the nick of time. He apologized profusely, then provided me with another pulled pork sandwich, 3-4 more spare ribs, a bowl of baked beans and another bowl of baked beans to go. All for the crime of piling my dishes on top of each other. I was quite grateful and proceeded to massively over-eat. Two other observations, one I personally take as a criticism, while others might not, and it's something the restaurant can't really help. Lots of families eat there, which means lots of kids. Lots and lots of kids. The table behind me was occupied by four or five obnoxious boys who were wearing little league uniforms and had parents there not even attempting any semblance of control or authority over them. So the place can get loud. If the weather's nice, I'd recommend the side patio. That'll make it further to walk when you're getting refills, but sometimes you have to be willing to pay the price for the little things in life, and it's worth it. Lastly, I was sitting at the bar in front of the drink machines and watched as people filled and refilled. The choices are soda, lemonade, sweet iced tea and unsweetened iced tea. And I noticed a lot of people getting soda and lemonade, which I get, but they actually ran out of sweet tea and had to refill it the container, while I didn't see anyone besides myself getting the unsweetened tea. I don't get that. Sweetened tea is what evil would taste like if it was a beverage. That not withstanding, I would definitely come back here. They even had a poster of the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders on the wall by the bathrooms, and several had signed their pictures. How can you beat a place frequented by NFL cheerleaders? read more

Yes - it really is that good! I've heard a lot of good things about City Barbeque, but I've had my share of BBQ over the years, so I wasn't too excited. I was pleasantly surprised from the minute I walked in. As my wife and I entered, a young lady noticed our "deer in headlights" look and explained the City Barbeque experience with an enthusiastic smile. As we stared (blankly) at the menu she then offered some samples so we could make the best choice. Wow - great brisket and pulled pork! We ordered the lunch plate version of brisket and pork with corn pudding, hush puppies, vinegar slaw and green beans. All of the sides were fantastic! The actual protein portions seemed a little skimpy (about 5 oz) but my wife and I were stuffed when we left. Come here for the food and you will not be disappointed. Serving sizes are just right and you can't go wrong with whatever you order. Know, also, that you will get fantastic service. From the friendly person that met us at the door to the delightful cashier, Crystal, to the people bussing the tables. There is a friendly feel as though you're at a church potluck and everyone wants to make sure enjoy yourself. We have a fantastic time - and we're already planning our next trip with the family. This is the second time I go to this store, and I recommended to my wife. We got the beef brisket, smoked turkey and smoked half chicken. Long story short, beef brisket is amazing. Turkey is good, but the chicken is just horrible! It is huge.. I swear the chicken is oversized, that it was undercooked. We did not eat it, and it had to go to waste. We didn't take it back, because we were grosses out, and I'm sure they'll apoligize and replace us with another overhuge sized hlaf chicken My advise, stay away from the chicken read more

I'm not a big BBQ guy but my wife absolutely loves this place and she says the corn pudding reminders her of her great grandmother's recipe. Tugging at the heart strings of nostalgia you sly dogs. So while I can't really comment on all of the food (I just get plain turkey every time we go), I do want to point out that the staff at this location is amazing. They're helpful, almost annoyingly polite (we had a kid apologize twice that he was cleaning and closing down a trash station by our seat) and very, very friendly. Halloween seemed to be the best night to try out City Barbecue since it's been packed ever since it opened. I swear you've got to hit restaurants at just the right day and time in Fishers because when a new one opens up, it's impossible to get into at first. We got there and just went with the flow since we didn't know how this worked. You order at the counter and then go pick up your meat and sides unless you've ordered something fried. That they give you a number for to put in your table and bring it to you when it's ready. If you've never been before, it's a little confusing and crowded. The logistics isn't pleasing and perhaps the layout could have been done better. We got out food (partially) and went to find a table. Our fried foods (fries for him and hush puppies for me) were brought out very quickly. The fries and hush puppies joined our baked beans and pulled pork. Each table has it's own sauces, four of them to be exact so you can try them all if you choose. The pulled pork was delicious and the baked beans were amazing! I tried his fries and they reminded me of the fries at Five Guys so we were both a big fan. The hush puppies were ok but they give you a ton and I couldn't finish them all. We truly wished we could have fit in the chocolate cake or the banana pudding but we were stuffed. My treat was the old fashioned cherry coke in a bottle I had to drink. You can get a fountain drink (Pepsi products I believe) or there is a bin while you are waiting to order full of old fashioned sodas. read more

From the initial consultation, to our wedding day and everything in between, we were blown away by their service, attention to detail, and food quality. Went back because they were donating a portion of the proceeds to a co-worker's son's soccer league. Ordered the lo-lo pulled pork with creamy slaw, and sides of mac and cheese and baked beans with brisket. All of the food should have been warmer than it was, but was still decent, and the place seems to have improved since last time. The baked beans and brisket was awesome, the mac and cheese seemed to have improved since my last visit (see previous review), and the pulled pork sandwich was what you'd expect. Specifying that I wanted the "creamy slaw" ensured I got the cole slaw I expected rather than what I ended up with last time. A woman who I can only guess was the manager seemed really on top of things, and repeatedly asked patrons if everything was okay and if they needed anything. There was enough improvement that I felt it was only fair to update my review. Solid three stars. read more

I honestly don't know if I have ordered anything else! I should probably try the Ribs at some point but I can't pass on the Brisket. As for sides, I love the hush puppies, the mac and cheese and the cornbread. I like the fries but it is a huge order and they get cold and soggy quickly. They provide all the sauces at the table and I enjoy mixing the brush fire, mustard and the sweet city. It makes for a perfect sauce! Oh and their sweet tea is wonderfully sweet. Yum! Try it out! Ordered six ribs for carry out. I think I got the small section of the slab. I don't know the actual difference in the sizes from opposite ends but I know ribs are tapered from end to end and lot more meat on larger end. One of the ribs was only 2 inches long, and another 2 1/4 inches. Only a couple of the ribs had much meat, but they were on special. If I was paying full price I would have given less than 3 stars for portion size. Maybe the customer behind me got the larger size ribs from the slab and was very pleased. Staff is friendly and efficient. Follow up- I notified City Barbeque through their web site about my experience and within 2 hours I received phone call with an outreach from City. Very impressed with their follow up. The above rating is based on my initial experience. Because of there prompt follow up I will certainly give them another try. read more

This place is all about the meat! vegetarians behold it, and shudder! City Barbeque is about as close you'll get to Memphis in Indiana. The pulled pork is this establishment's crown jewel, pairing perfectly with any of its deluxe sides. But don't forget the chicken, ribs, and brisket, too. The choices for sauce are also extensive, whether you want sweet, spicy, or something in-between. My one itty, bitty gripe I have about this location is how the service counter is set up. Food comes out on a counter facing the entrance/exit and not toward the dining room, so it can get a bit crowded with people waiting for their food. Other than that, this place is great if the mood for barbeque hits. Also, you can order whole hams and turkeys for the holidays to satisfy your fattiest desires without spending hours in the kitchen. I had a big family gathering and I did not feel like cooking after a long day at work. They have this wonderful Friday deal where you get 2 sides and a pound of pulled pork for $19. WOW. So I ordered two, one pulled pork and one brisket (additional charge, but soooo worth it) Got a pound of the sausages too. The seasonal cucumbers and onions are awesome, and the mac and cheese is amazing as always. The problem was, I got home and I was missing a pound of pulled pork. Love this place! The meats are delicious and the sides are all excellent. The service and atmosphere is one of the best in town with the friendly, helpful, and happy staff. We've had the brisket, turkey, chicken, sausage, pulled pork and all were excellent. They have a great smoked flavor that makes me want to not and barbecue sauces, but I've sampled all their sauces and those are delicious too. All the sides are excellent. My favorite two are the vinegar slaw and the smashed potatoes. The home brewed tea is good. They have typical Fountain self serve soft drinks and also unique bottled soda flavors and beer. read more

Love good BBQ, this is a place to go. First, had it at their Avon location. The brisket is my favorite item along with the baked beans, corn pudding, and slaw. For a hungrier appetite go for the city sampler, it's a little of everything and enough for two. If you have room for dessert, they are pretty darn tasty too. Sweet tea is ok but not sweet enough for these southern taste buds. But mix in the lemonade and it will do for an Arnold Palmer. Love the self-service warm sauce and pickle bar, both good on BBQ.
