I love the bagels.... But the sandwiches are a ripoff. It's $10 just for a sandwich, and it's not even that big. The sandwich doesn't even come with a bag of chips or a drink. CJ Coffee House is very convenient for me; I stop by every morning before my 7:30 AM class for cheap, but tasty breakfast. Before CJ's, I'd never been so excited for breakfast.. At 6 AM, the staff is so cheerful!! They're truly a delight. There's also plenty of room inside for studying or catching up with a friend over brunch. My usual order is the Cali Veggie on a jalapeno cheese bagel and English breakfast tea. The Cali Veggie bagel consists of tomato, avocado, cream cheese and lemon pepper and gosh, it is so delicious. I'm not entirely sure why or how such simple ingredients can taste so good together, but I'm glad that I discovered this. Bottom line: really great breakfast/brunch food -- be sure to get up early, usually 2-3 parties of people are here by 6:45 AM. read more

I absolutely love this place! I rarely get to go because I fast and usually don't eat until after they close. But today I did and man am I glad that I did. I tried their matcha pistachio blended drink with almond milk. I know it doesn't sound good but it's beyond DELICIOUS. If you like matcha and pistachios then you will dig this drink. They use actual crushed up pistachios so it has an authentic pistachio flavor. It also really fills you up because of the protein in the pistachios which is great! I obviously highly recommend this drink and will probably go back again tomorrow!! I also really enjoy the employees that work here. They are incredibly nice and enthusiastic about the food/drinks. I honestly wouldn't have ordered that drink had the employee working the cash register not been so enthusiastic about it! I'm glad she did because where would I be now? The smoothies and sandwiches are good but over priced. For the hummus wrap it was close to $9 with tax for a small container of it. Not worth it. You can get your moneys worth elsewhere. I've been reading the previous ratings and they're right about the reddish haired girl having attitude. But I've noticed that she doesn't seem to work in the front anymore since she's usually in the back blending stuff. Also, one of the guys that works there accidentally gave my order to someone else and asked if I wanted him to remake it. Well yes, obviously because the lady had already touched it and I had already paid for my order. It wasn't his fault that the lady was on the phone not listening to us when we tried telling her she got the wrong order. On our drive to my family's house for Christmas eve, we decided to stop at this restaurant for coffee. Not even 10 minutes after we got the coffee, the cup started leaking due to the poor quality and stability of the cup. Heard about this place from classmates, since I go to the college across the street, and I'm glad I went. The place is small but has plenty of seating and I love the vibe of the whole place. It seems like a popular place for the old folk but also attracts college students, like myself, and the employees are also young; everyone is really nice.I ordered one of the popular items, Cali Veggie Bagel and it was actually very filling and the lemon pepper was very tangy and paired well with the avocado and tomato. Also ordered my favorite drink, an iced chai latte, and subbed with almond milk for 65 cents more. Had the option of getting spiced or vanilla but I got both and it was better than most iced chais I've had (and I've had a LOT). Some of the items they offer are: - "Breakfast" bagels (Under $5, except for the Lox Bagel $7) - Sandwiches (Under $8) - Omelettes (Under $7, egg white omelettes available) - Hot and cold coffee/espresso beverages (The largest size is under $5) - Smoothies (All under $5) What I love most about the place is the prices. I never feel like I'm over-paying for something! Unlike at Starbucks, where I'm paying way too much for a simple drink or pastry. My usual is the Cali Veggie Bagel--cream cheese, avocado, tomato, and lemon pepper on your choice of bagel. I usually get plain and I also ask for turkey on it. They don't skimp on the avocado either!!! I'm not a big fan of coffee, so I haven't tried any of their coffee/espresso drinks but I know they use Peet's Coffee Beans. Their smoothies and iced teas are really good though! As for customer service, the employees are very friendly and welcoming--that's always a plus for me! There are usually only 2 people working in the café on most days, but I never find myself waiting too long for my order. They're also super helpful when it comes to questions about the menu or any recommendations that they may have for customers. The only downside is that they close at 5pm! Don't let the yummy pictures fool you. My husband and I stopped by around 4:00 for a little snack, well the shelves were bare. No worries, we then showed up the next morning for a bagel at 9:30 and I was amazed that their bakery shelves were 85 percent just as bare, only had 3 plain bagels. I then went for the coffee and 2 Of the 5 pitchers were empty. When I mentioned it, nobody did anything about it. So i ended up with a Luke warm cup of coffee of not my choice. The guy gave me the ice tea and as I was connecting the wifi he told me that they close in a min! What the heck, its 5 o'clock! Apparently this coffee business doesnt go so well and its not worth having a coffee shop open too long. Lemon pepper veggie bagel is amazeeballss. I love all things vegetarian and this was so simple yet so fulfilling. Generous amount of fresh avocado, cream cheese and tomato sprinkled with lots of lemon pepper. After eating it here I attempted my own at home for a quick breakfast. Yum yum. This is place is alright. I only come here because its across the street from SCC and I'm taking a class there this semester. I've had the tropical iced tea sweetened with honey, iced tea with hazelnut syrup and the breakfast burrito. Drinks are Peet's coffee with Peet's pricing, only slightly better than Starbuck's but the same ol' stuff. Breakfast burritos are decent, I've definitely had better and might even opt for going to John's restaurant across the lot for a breakfast burrito instead. When I first went there I asked the girl at the front for some suggestions on what to order and she could not advise me on anything at all. I had to sweeten my own tea because she didn't know how much honey was required to sweeten a large tea. Probably just a high school student, definitely not a barista of any kind. Owners seemed nice enough. I'll probably come back to try a sandwich or something. It's still better and cheaper than what you'd get on campus. No wi-fi :( read more

I love this little quaint, off the beaten path coffee house. I stumbled upon this place when I was in search of another coffee house. lol, go figure. This coffee house is located in orange, in the plaza at the corner of Chapman and Jamboree Rd. across the street from Santiago Canyon Community College. You would never even know it was there and please do not judge a book by it's cover, this coffee shop is extremely unassuming. But the food is good and the drinks are delicious too. They serve both breakfast and lunch, the menu has a good variety of foods from bagels to eggs and bacon to sandwiches. They have a variety of beverages, including blended coffee drinks that all sounded yummy when I perused the menu. They also serve Peet's coffee. i found the wait staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. It's great they have free wifi, and plenty of available outlets. But not a lot of available seating. There is ample parking and easy. I did think the prices for the beverages were a little pricey, and the interior of the shop could use an upgrade. But I had also heard the coffee house is under new owners, so the upgrade may be in their thoughts. They also close at 5pm during the week and at 2pm on weekends, so that's a drawback. But if you can plan your schedule accordingly, you're good to go. If you're looking for an off the beaten path place, that's quiet with plenty of parking, good eats and drinks. I would recommend you try this place out, especially if you're a student at the college. read more

Hands down, best coffee anywhere. They have a great selection of daily brews, and I have yet to try one that I didn't like. I especially like their lattes, which can be made with almond milk! You must try their mocha made with almond milk. The food here is always amazing. Simple breakfast burritos, bagels with fresh ingredients, and other classics really hit the spot when you want breakfast, but hate the greasy mess that accompanies most other coffee joints. Try the California Bagel! They really load up the avocado! Sometimes seating is sparse, and occasionally a group of cyclists will stop in all at once and create a backup, but I never wait more than 10 minutes. The staff here is very personable! A quaint cute coffee shop tucked into the shopping plaza by Santiago Canyon College and the Irvine Regional park. The atmosphere was great - a kind of faux indoor/outdoor style similar to Mimi's Cafe, but not in such an over the top fashion. There were cute cafe tables alongside the walls inside, as well as outside of the shop. I had the cali bagel and it was amazing. The ingredients were ripe and fresh, and the tang of lemon went very well with the bagel. I split the veggie burrito with my boyfriend, and asked for no bell peppers. I was happy to see that there were none in my burrito. It was also one of the best veggie burritos that I have eaten, with my favorite being up in San Francisco. I had the hibiscus iced tea and my boyfriend had the chai latte. The iced tea was pretty good, but I'll definitely grab the chai latte next time I come around. That thing was delicious! First time here. Its about 8:30 am and this place is packed. Menu looks delicious but went with the morning gloria sandwich with added bacon and avocado toast with 2 regular black coffees. Total was about $25. My morning gloria sandwich was delicious! Not too big or overfilling. Husband got the avocado toast and they were two descent slices of toast and avocado. The place is usually manned by I think the owners but lately a crew of young staff have been running the counter. The music has now changed, the silly banter of staff who are hanging out back chatting and not monitoring the customers is a bit annoying. Miss the relaxing music and attentive staff. read more

I am so bummed I had such a horrible experience with this shop. I was in here on a friday morning around 6am while my husband was getting gas. We were getting ready to drive to Nashville for a 36+ hour trip. Coffee was definitely a must have! I ordered 2 coffees and bagels. The iced coffee was WAY TOO sweet that it was completely undrinkable. I told the guy working (younger guy...maybe 30?) after one sip that I would love to have it fixed, since it was so bad. I was smiling/laughing about it because it was truly that bad, I thought it was an obvious fix. I've been an avid coffee drinker for years. It has never EVER been a big deal if the coffee needed fixed. Actually, that is just standard customer service anywhere you go (especially when its not prepackaged beverages/food). They guy started off by telling me he was going to charge me for another coffee. I honestly asked if he was kidding, and then he said he would at least need to charge me for a refill. All I asked for, was if he could top it off to help balance off the sweetness. We are not talking about an entire new cup of coffee. I asked again, why I would be charged if I just wanted my coffee fixed. He aggressively jerked my coffee out of my hand and very dramatically dumped it over half way out. Then he completely filled it with ice and only put a small amount of coffee back in it. It was literally all ice and a little coffee. I looked at him calmly and asked if he was serious about how he was treating me. He rolled his eyes and very rudely dismissed me. (Are you serious? Its coffee dude, chill out). I couldn't help but laugh at the emotional immaturity he showed about a stupid cup of coffee. I on the other hand had a very long drive ahead, and just really really wanted a good cup of coffee without dealing with a man-child melt down. I asked if he owned the shop and he ignored me, then I asked if I could have his name and he responded " I don't want to give you my name". Still waiting for my other coffee I purchased, I asked for it. He abruptly showed me the self serving station (I've never been here..didnt know). The customer behind me was laughing at the situation and shaking his head. I looked at the two girls working (who were extremely nice) and notified them that this was probably one of the worst services I've ever had. I give them 1 star because the girls were nice, and the self serve coffee was delicious. The ice coffee was absolutely terrible, but not as terrible as the rude guy who clearly does not know one thing about service....or coffee. As a small business owner myself, I feel terrible for the owner of this shop. Please do yourself a favor and have talk with him. You have a great shop and don't need a piss poor attitude to bring the quality down. Again super bummed this was such a horrible experience. I am in town for work 1-2 a month and this is right by where I stay. I don't recommend this place and have no plans on going back. read more
