This is one of my favorite restaurants!! Although the consistency of the sauce varies on each visit it is ALWAYS yummy. The shrimps they offer here are much bigger than those at Cajun Corner or Boiling Crab and you don't have to wait two hours to be seated. They also accept reservations ahead of time so I've celebrated many large party birthdays here. My favorite things to order are the mussels canon ball spicy, Cajun wings, and Cajun fries. I was bummed when I went to Claws a few weeks ago and saw that they were closed because they were moving to a bigger location. My friends and I had to go to another shrimp/craw fish place that did not live up to the quality of Claws. so FAIL. BUT! now they are open and at a bigger location (its in the same plaza). So my friends and I had to redeem ourselves and go get some quality food. Food: I ordered 1 lb of shrimp, mild, and with Cajun sauce. Ya'll already know. I came here on Friday for lunch and there was no wait at at all. I've been here a few times and it's always good. The shrimp is huge and the clams are pretty big as well. I think it's best to order everything separate because 2 lbs is more than enough since we usually get 3 lbs (combination). You have to get the fries, corn and of course the sausage. Went here Friday night with a group of friends. The place is clean and the furnishings are nice. I read on the menu that they sold crawfish by the pound and they listed 2 options, one live and the other frozen. Obviously live is much better and a no brainer so I ordered 2 pounds at an upcharge of $3.00 additional per pound for live. What a mistake this was. They bring me a bag of overboiled and tiny crawfish. About 95% of the crawfish had tails about half the size of my pinky finger. When you separate the tail from the head and try to pinch the tail meat out, it stuck to the shell and was mushy in texture. The tail meat would not pull out nicely. When trying to suck the head out, none of the tamale or goodies were present inside. Everything was zapped out of it from being over boiled. Additionally the 2 very small pieces of corn on the cob side orders were also cooked to mush with the crawdads. I gave up after 5 pieces of crawdads and essentially just told the server to toss it out. The upcharge of $1.45 for one piece of a 3" long corn on the cob is a joke especially when they overcook the hell out of it. Oh yeah, they also charge $1.45 for each small piece of red potato which is about the size of a golf ball. I should have took pictures and posted them but the oversaturated mess that the food sits in the plastic bag makes your hands and fingers a mess, so grabbing my phone to take pictures was not an option. The rest of our group ordered the peel and eat shrimp and I sampled some of theirs. These were also over cooked in my opinion but my friends seemed to be okay with it. I was not impressed at all. I suspect that possibly the crawfish I ordered may not have been alive before they were boiled. These crawfish are definitely not harvested from Louisiana because of their really small size. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because they were able to seat our group of 10 immediately and the server was nice. I'm scratching my head as to why others rate this as high as it is. I love this place because of the awesome staff, music and delicious food! The canon ball seasoning (with everything on it) is my favorite, along with the shrimp and clams. I came here today for dinner with two of my girlfriends and one of them was trying Claws out for the first time. They both were going to share two pounds of crawfish and were deeply disappointed by the quality of it. I'm not a crawfish eater but they ordered live crawfish and it literally looked greyish which was really off. My friends are regular crawfish eaters and when we asked the server about it, she said it was live crawfish and that the color comes off like that when the kitchen cooks it...I mean I guess?? We didn't want it anymore so we asked for it to be traded for shrimp instead. All in all, the shrimp was pretty good. Not too sure about their crawfish though. Maybe it was just for today's visit. Despite the bad crawfish, I really liked the server Melissa. She was super sweet and concerned about our problem with the crawfish. Even though she's not a crawfish eater herself, she listened to us about what we thought about the crawfish instead of just telling us like the other server it's cooked like that and we had to deal with it. OMG This place is a small slice of season heaven! I try to come here every time I am in California. Anything in the cannon ball sauce should have you on cloud 9 after the first bite. The chunks of garlic and Cajun spices along with the twangy tang of freshly squeezed lemon and melted butter pair well with the shrimp, muscles, and clams... My 3 personal favorites. Cajun fries are yummy but can be too spicy sometimes. The garlic fries, calamari, and crab egg rolls are on point. For those that don't like seafood they also have steaks and non-seafood items. We went to Claws on a Monday night, which wasn't busy at all. We walked in and were seated right away. The restaurant is small.. three rows of tables and a bar towards the back, with several flat screen tvs around the place. We ordered a mild 3 lb. bag of crawfish and 1 lb. bag of clams, and only had to wait around 10 - 15 minutes for our food. I thought to myself.. this warm bag of seafood drenched in garlicky cajun sauce has to be off the hook! I opted not to use a bib and literally "got it crackin" with my bare hands. The food is sooo good! Much better than Boiling Crab, especially since they have a wider menu selection. The drinks are super good and the shrimps are HUGE and succulent. The only thing I absolutely hate is the service. I'm sure it's not everyone in the restaurant, but the one person I somehow always get is absolutely rude. I literally wanted to punch him in the face. Regards to comparing boiling crab and claws is quite subjective thus its upon the individual judge for themselves. I had boiling crab and claws and i have to admit, subjectively of course, that boiling crab has better spices. I can't really acutely elaborate the spices in boiling crab, probably proprietary anyways, but it has very distinctive taste. Regards to claws, they have their own spices but it fails to captivate the culinary attributions. However, if you do not want to wait 1hr + for boiling crab, claws is a great alternative for your seafood desires. First time ever coming to a place like this! It was good, I really enjoyed it. This restaurant is extremely spacious and feels clean. The parking was easy, there seemed to be a lot of it when I went on a weeknight. My table of 3 chose to do the 3lbs for $31 special. We ordered three pounds of shrimp! It doesn't sound like much, but we could barely finish it all - each of us eating a pound. We also ordered the delicious Cajun Fries! Loved them. What my friend tells me to do (She's a Claws regular) is to dump out the shrimp on the table and peel them all first, putting them back into the bag until they're all nice and peeled while soaking in the sauce. Then eat them all up! Prices were fair, and anyone can easily come out of this restaurant only paying $10-$15 a meal while also being super satisfied. I got the unpeeled shrimp and there was no taste on the actual shrimp. No biggy, I can just dip the shrimp in the sauce. NOPE. The sauce had a weird medicine-y/herb taste to it and it was NOTHING near boiling crab's the whole shabang. Such a disappointment :/ I ended up eating my shrimp with the salt&pepper&lime. Came here on a Saturday right before dinner time. The place isn't as crowded as The Boiling Crab (when we were there at that time), which was a huge plus. Reserved a table for 6, but they wouldn't allow us to sit until at least 4 people were present. So we had to wait outside. I love that this place takes reservation. They give you a 15 minute grace period from your rsvp time, if you pass it than they'll give up your table if it's busy. It's on the corner of Brookhurst and Chapman, Pavilion center adjacent to the El Pollo Loco. We came on Saturday at 3 pm and it wasn't busy. We weren't complaining. Their menu has more selection than Boiling Crab. There's a basket with napkins and a container that has salt and pepper already mixed together along with a container of limes, lots of limes. We order the shrimp, crawfish and raw oysters. I ordered the medium spicy and that was hot for me, will stay with mild. My guy was loving this place. We had just ate at Boiling Crab 2 weeks ago but he said this place was better in seasoning. The oyster was really good. I like the oysters over here better. However we had to remove the oyster from the shell, wonder why they didn't do that. But didn't matter, it was sure damn good. But I notice that Boiling Crab gives you more rice than Claws. It was a Saturday at approximatey 5:30pm and we were seated right away. We ordered the 4lbs special & got 1lbs each of king crab legs ($6 more), shrimp, clams, & crawfish with the Canonball seasoning (a mix of garlic butter, cajun, & lemon pepper). That also came with an appetizer (we ordered the crab cakes), calamari and cajun fries. We initially ordered the 5lbs bag and the waiter recommended that we get something a little smaller since this was our first time there and stated that 3-4 lbs was plenty for our party (2 adults and 3 children under 8). The calamari and cajun fries were really good. The crab cakes were okay. When the 4lbs bag came in it we went to town. . . wishing we should have gotten the 5lbs bag instead. The crawfish were my favorites next to the clams. The shrimp were so-so and the king crab legs were okay. I had to drown them in lime juice to get some good flavor out of them. If I could rate this place twice, I would give it a 4 star the first time, and then a 1 star the second time.. so I'm just averaging it out to 3 stars. First experience here: The boyfriend and I lucked out, as there was no wait the night we went. The service was amazing, with the waitress on top of things, making sure we were liking the food, and giving us refills without us asking. This was the first time going to Claws and what I liked the most about it are the generous portions. My memory sucks and I forgot what we ordered and how much it was, but it was something along the lines of calamari, fries, 2 lbs of extra spicy shrimp, and strawberry lemonade. Calamari and fries = seriously good, very very generous portions Extra spicy shrimp = WAY too spicy. This is coming from a spicy food fanatic, I get extra spicy at almost every place I go, and the extra spicy shrimp here pretty much made me sweat off all the weight I gained from the appetizers.. Strawberry lemonade = I was unable to really savor it since I kept downing it to save my tongue from the shrimp.. In addition to the customer service, after the waitress said that she was unable to water down the shrimps/take away some of the spiciness, she gave us melted butter to lessen the spiciness. It didn't really help, but it's the thought that counts! Second experience here: There isn't much of an experience to write about, considering we weren't even able to eat there. I go up to the waitress at the front desk (only girl working that shift) and I ask her if we could get a seat since we called in, and she asked if we put our names down on the paper.. which we obviously didn't bc she didn't take our names.. She basically said that there was nothing we could do but wait. She even said that she wasn't the one on the phone.. even though she was the only girl working. Further bitching on my part, and then we drove the extra 15 minutes to Corner. I don't know if it's their way of tricking customers to go there or maybe I got trolled by some pretend Claws waitress, but that was pretty damn frustrating. read more

Claws? I wasn't sure why Claws was all about until I had to claw my way into the bag and then use my claws to pry open each shrimp and crawfish. It was messy, but totally worth the work. An experienced girlfriend (Top Review, Thyda L.) brought us here so she ordered for us. If she weren't, I wouldn't have known where to start. Apparently, there are different types and levels of spiciness. I believe it was Cannonball and the spiciness level right before "fire in the hole". Thank goodness we didn't get "fire in the hole"! I thought they were alright. We also got a bucket of beer for a really good price. You can mix premium beers with domestic. I thought that was cool. Overall, the food was good. I've never been to Boiling Crab or Crawfish King (in Seattle) so I have nothing to compare it to. So this is an absolute unbiased review. Although it took a moment to get us seated, the service was good. We ordered 2lbs of shrimp and 1lb of crawfish but they gave us 1lb of crawfish and 2lbs of shrimp. We didn't realize it until we ate most of the shrimp to find a wholelotta crawfish. They were able to switch the crawfish for shrimp for us. That was awesome. Open later, thank God for something decent for a late dinner (even disneyland is open late!!) The entrees came with house salad, which I must say was beautiful and quite tasty for just a house salad - very fresh lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onion, and these super cute little cubes of crouton, just enough texture and not the usual guilt! Cajun seafood pasta - not so mild, I really liked it but my mouth was burning and I couldn't really taste the jambalaya effectively afterwards. That said, the seafood was all cooked perfectly, very tender. Jambalaya (with pasta, they ran out of rice) - mild was truly mild, but can't say too much after my tastebuds were stunned. Love! and Prepare to get a little messy :) Food: Shrimp,shrimp,shrimp! This place is really yummy! You order the shrimp to your desired flavor and add any fixings you'd like. We usually get cajun mild flavor with a couple potatoes, corn on the cob and sausages. Everything gets really good flavor from the seasoning you choose. The ceviche and crab cakes are good too. Note: *They bring you a container filled with lemon and one with salt & pepper. Put the lemon juice in your salt & pepper container and mix. This mixture is to dip your shrimp in. Yummy. *The three pound bag was too much for us two (this depends also on how hungry you are, if you really love sea food and on you) but for us two, two pounds might have been better. Three pounds is good for three people maybe even four. *You can order the shrimp already peeled but peeling your own at the table with friends throwing back a beer is part of the fun, although if you opt for peeling: Add $1 per peeled pound, ex. 3 peeled pound= $3 more dollars on the bill. Some say you loose flavor getting it already peeled but I didn't really notice the difference. We like getting some peeled and peeling some ourselves. *Disney fans. This place is about 10 min away from the parks. We'll come here once in a while for dinner after visiting the parks, it makes for a good day :) Parking: Plenty of free parking. I came here for the first time tonight after a long day at Knott's. For a Monday night around 8:30pm, there was a 10-15 minute wait - not because it was busy but because they were short servers (half the restaurant was empty). Understandable, and I'm glad the host let us know that they were only serving FROZEN crawfish ($6.99/lb.). We got seated and it took awhile for someone to notice us and start us off with drinks. (Note* If you like iced tea, theirs is fresh-brewed!) Order: - Clam chowder - Good flavor, not too thick in consistency, had lots of clams and potatoes. - 1 lb. unpeeled shrimp - If you're coming to a restaurant like this, don't be lazy and get the peeled shrimp! Half the fun is peeling your own shrimp, people! Size-wise, the shrimp here are quite large. The shrimp itself, however, was a little overcooked because the shell stuck to the shrimp. - 1 lb. frozen crawfish - We were worried that they would taste fishy like other places, but they weren't. Overall pretty satisfied with them. - 1 lb. snow crab clusters - They didn't really have that much meat in the legs. The actual cluster had meat but it was kind of grey and mushy. I would skip these and go for the king crab (even though it's a little more $$) Sauce -- definitely get Cannon Ball (their version of a full house sauce). We got mild and it was very bearable for me and I don't even eat spicy food! *Note: For your snow crab legs, they don't have shellers or crackers. They'll give you scissors instead, but the scissors were really difficult to use. We're definitely glad we tried this place out, but unfortunately I don't think I would go out of my way for it like I did for Boiling Crab. read more

Claws is the best! It really is. I can't even begin to compare to those other crab boil places, mainly that place that begins with a B and rhymes with Spoiling Crap. Okay, maybe that didn't really rhyme. But moving on, Claws has the best flavor and I find that the shrimp, unlike its competitors are cooked to perfection and is fairly large in size. I love going in to peel shrimp without having the meat stuck to the shell or having it disintegrate into a big pile of mush (a sure fire sign it has been over cooked). Claws does so many things right, even down to its appetizers. The garlic fries and fried okra are delish. I usually order a good size bag of shrimp with a few cobs of corn. Every now and then I actually add in crab, but those can get expensive (more expensive) pretty quickly. I typically ask for the Cannon Ball, medium spicy so the rest of my group can actually enjoy the meal since some of them can't handle much heat. The service can be hit or miss. They are never rude or anything, but sometimes you will get a wait staff that is attentive and sometimes you will only see them 3 times: one when they take your order, two when you ask for the check, and three when they return with the receipt. However, when I do get a good waiter/waitress, they are more than likely super nice and extremely attentive. I highly recommend giving this place a go, but try to come during a weekday if it's your first time. Like many of these crab boil places, it's super busy during Friday nights and much of the weekend. read more

Came to CLAWS for dinner, first time here. We each ordered 1 pound of peeled shrimp with "Cannon-Ball" seasoning which is all the 3 in the 1: Cajun, Garlic Butter & Lemon Pepper and Medium in spice. Seasoning sauce was a little too thick would of gave it 5 stars but that's the only thing that could of been better. Flavor was great, also got corn and side of rice, delicious!! Once we arrived there was only about a 10 minute wait. Food arrived fast, our server was COOL and took good care of us. Nice clean friendly place, would definitely come back again!! read more

Took my sister here for some crawfish cravings. My sister is true chef herself so she approved the seasoning. I find them a bit salty. Less oily fries/calamari Attentive servers. I'm sold that they serve "real" Dr Pepper drinks. Not like boiling crabs giving me fake Dr Pepper. read more
