So, with the sudden explosion of crawfish joints in Little Saigon, there hasn't been much originality and creativity. But there is good news on crawfish lovers' hand because there is a brand new joint that isn't an exact replica of the gold standard, Boiling Crab. Although the wait was a little long, which is understandable because they're so new, it was well worth the wait. The menu features the classic boiled seafood, but also includes entrees for those who want something besides crawfish. I totally love their pirate theme. You can even ask to get your picture taken with "Captain Morgan." I have to say that this place has one of the better menus. I mean, last week i went to the Crawfish Factory and they had like 6 items on their menu. Claws Restaurant isn't just another crawfish restaurant. Besides the crawfish that i ordered on grand opening, my friends ordered such items as Cajun seafood fried rice and jambalaya. The food proved to be very flavorful, but i would have to say that the crawfish were a little too salty for my particular taste. Other than that, the food was excellent and i wouldn't mind coming back at all. So for their grand opening, Claws decided to give out free sodas $2 beer, and on top of that a 20% discount. I came here tonight with three other friends since the wait at Boiling Crab was almost two hours! I'm so glad I discovered this place. They actually had a bar area were we ordered some beers while we waited for 25 minutes to be seated. It had a nice pirate theme inside the restaurant and it was very clean. We ordered crawfish, shrimp, clams, mussels, corn, bread, and white rice. We got it cannon ball style. The food and sauce was delicious. To be honest, I am not sure if Boiling Crab or this spot is better. What I do know is that the sauce is a little different but it is also very good. Now I have a small dilemma because some relatives will be visiting me from another country next week and now I don't know where to take them. I guess I may have to take them to both! read more

Holy moly, the best crawfish type place I've been to. I just want to state though that when I come to these crawfish joints, I only eat shrimp and clams. But here, you have to order the fried mussels for appetizer. They are superb. The decor is pretty cool. They model it with a pirate theme which is good for the young people. For sauce, we got the whole she-bang in medium. Beware, it is spicy! Me and a few other guys were sweating down our face and the back of our necks! I felt like Patrick Ewing in the fourth quarter. I wished I had a headband. But eventually but tongue became numb and I could keep eating. It was one intense meal. The cajun fries here are great to have as a side order. And the one major positive about this place? This serve rice! Other places I've been to do not. Service is average so I won't complain. I guess Claws is seen as the red haired step child of Broiling Crab, but Claws is a perfectly good restaurant without BC's long wait. That's not to say that there isn't a wait, but I don't think the wait times are as bad as BC. They take reservations but your entire party must show up within 15 of your reservation or else you lose it. I ordered the blackened tilapia, and I was quite satisfied. You have a choice of white rice or cajun rice and it comes steamed veggies and a salad. The salad is nothing special, although they did put in dried cranberries which was a nice little touch. Same with the rice and steamed veggies. The fish is a good sized portion and the seasoning is what you would expect. It has a nice spice to counteract the "fishness" of the tilapia. I also ate a little bit of the Captain's Catch with mild spiceness. I'm mostly indifferent to clams and mussels (unless it's sundubu), but I liked it. The bag is mostly heavy on shrimp and crawfish, but there some corn, potatoes, and sausages thrown in. The shrimp pieces are fairly large so that's a plus. Overall, I would rather give Claws 3.5 stars but I'll round up to 4 stars. read more

Yea, pretty much everything is identical to boiling crab, although the 2 times I've been here they didn't have dungeness crabs nor crawfish. But I've tried the deep cried fish, very good crispy outer shell. The service maybe a bit slower, but I rather have that than the long unreasonable lines at boiling crab. After a day of shopping in OC, my friend took me here for dinner because she said the crawfish boil here was amazing. This place is a lot bigger than the crawfish houses back in Seattle and the decor was a lot nicer as well. We sat in the bar and ordered coconut snails, fully loaded fries (carne asada fries), and 2lbs of clams and a pound of shrimp since crawfish wasn't in season. I have to say, the sauce for the boil was really good and a lot saucier than the ones I've had before, which I really like. The fries were my friends favorite because she cleared most of the plate by herself and it was a fairly large serving. We ordered half size for the snails and I wish we had gotten the bigger size because it was my favorite! I love snails and this was the first time I had it in coconut sauce? Been to boiling crab & this place has more flavor for sure. Boiling crab is just butter and garlic , maybe some Cajun and that's about it. This place has a thicker sauce and all but the flavor could still be better. There was a lot of oil floating near the top and I found myself asking for extra sauce on the side to dip my shrimp in. Which is extra btw ($2? ) The shrimps here were pretty big though! Tried the Cajun fries, they're the same as anywhere else. Still good. And the service wasn't slow, they have plenty of room and it's a clean establishment. But I don't see finding myself going out of my way to come here to eat. read more

Came here on a Wednesday night and there was no one in there. We were seated prompted and the service was attentive. They got this whole pirate theme going on inside too. I'm not sure if they messed up my order or not but the medium cannonball was beyond what I was expecting in terms of spiciness. A few crawfish and we found ourselves sobbing and noses running. And I can normally handle spicy food, but I guess it might have to do with all the salt and spices they pack in these bags. Stuff was good nonetheless. Oysters are amazing too. Fries could be better. 3 pounds crawfish + 12 oysters + 2 orders of fries + drinks = ~$60. Pretty good place to go experience the whole crawfish craze, but I didn't leave too satisfied. read more

I've never been to BC, but I've heard mostly very positive things about it. I also heard that the wait at BC for a table for two can be as long as 2 hours! Well at Claws, the wait was about 25 minutes for a table for two, but if you'd like to skip that wait, just seat yourself at the bar like my bf and I did and you can eat right away! We split the 3 lb seafood bag combo which came with one appetizer, a 3 lb bag of seafood, and a basket of cajun fries. All for $36. Not bad! We got the Crab cake appetizer and our 3 lb bag consisted of 1 lb shrimp, 1 lb mussels, and 1 lb king crab legs (you can split the bag but you smallest amount you can get of one choice is a pound). BTW, the king crab legs cost $6 extra. You can also choose the sauce and spiciness level of the bag (we got garlic butter and medium) We got everything at once (which I didn't really like, but whatever) and we started on the crab cakes. They were pretty good; came with crackers and tartar sauce, but the cajun fries were better. They were very well seasoned with a nice kick. After we finished off the crab cakes, we started on the bag. Oh boy, there was a sh*tload of shrimp in there. Also fyi, the mussels are pretty huge so if you're like me then you're most likely going to get sick of them after eating 3 or 4. The shrimp was pretty good; the garlic butter sauce was a great choice, and as for the spiciness level, any higher than medium would have been way too much for me. A word of caution however: don't be a fool and just wear your damn bib. Also, try to avoid squirting the shrimp juice right in your eye -_- Finally the king crab legs, very delicious! They were very meaty too; when I cracked my claw open a huge chunk of meat was just waiting in there for me. Overall, I had a very enjoyable meal at Claws. The service was above average and the place had a cute charm (pirate themed). Only downside is that I got shrimp juice in my eye and probably in my hair. Definitely a better wait time than Boiling Crab. I'll give them that at least. This place is super cramp. They might as well take over the mattress store next door. The Cannon Ball is a lot more garlicy than Boiling Crab. The Deals are pretty worth it if you eat a lot or if you're in a huge group. The only thing that totally captured my attention and is by far the best thing about this place are the ice teas! Get the peach ice tea! Bottomless and has real peaches where you can scoop them and eat them. The strawberry lemonade is way too sweet. Steal the lemons and make more lemonade. Passion fruit was good as well. Earlier in the week, 7 of us were going to Boiling Crab. Well we arrived there around 8PM on a Wednesday and they were just seating people that had showed up at 6PM, not good. So we heard about "Claws" and had never been. So I called them, no wait, so off we were. Waited maybe 10 minutes for them to clear off a few tables to seat us. There were a few groups of 6 plus. The place is small, TVs on the wall, a small bar, and the service was great and friendly. The food was really good. We got crab legs, 3lbs of shrimp from all different levels of spice, craw fish, corn, sausage, rice, Cajun fries, and oysters. Wow so much food and it was a great deal as well. This place is just as good as BC, and a lot less of a wait. BC may be bigger and a different type of experience than Claws, but this place is definitely a place I will eat at again very soon. So if you are waiting really long at BC, you can wait or just head down the street and enjoy some great food and service at "Claws". read more

I'm starting to think that this place is a hit or miss. In my opinion, I do like the spices of Claws but sometimes it comes with just the butter and spice, skimping on the garlic bits. Then there are times when there is no garlic, at all. Definitely a no-no in this garlic obsessesd girl's eyes. I do like that you can order french bread to sop up the buttery left overs. Also, Claws was the first place I tried mussles in a spicy cajun sauce and I about died-- so delicious with the juices and some lemon! Makes me salivate just thinking about it.... because of that poignant memory, I will always frequent Claws. Came here with my girls and one of my girls' friends. The theme was pirates. It was nice, but reminds me of Halloween. My table got the oysters, shrimp, and cajun fries. One of my friends loved the fries; I liked it too. The shrimp was good. We decided to skip out on the crawfish because shrimp had more "meat" and was less work to open! The oysters were good, too. I'd definitely come back... This place doesn't take American Express credit cards, so typical... The restrooms are kind of gross. Someone needs to revamp them. And the door in the men's restroom doesn't close properly. One guy went in there and didn't lock the door because it doesn't close all the way unless you slam it or pull in the door a certain way. Well after considering i've been to cajun corner and rockin' crawfish and tasted THE boiling crab. This place is A-Okay. distance wise its really close to my house. price wise its pretty much the same everywhere. I had a pound of shrimp with sausage, side of rice, garlic fries and cajun fries. the fries were really good.t he sauce was spicy as liked but it felt like it didn't stick to the shrimp so well. It wasn't bad but it was missing something. The service was good til the end. a new girl came to our table to take the check. in which she neglected our directions. we split between two cards. Yum. This place and Boiling Crab are toss-ups for me. I have been to Boiling Crab numerous times as that was the only crawfish place that i knew of and I love it. I only went to try Claws because I was seeing a lot of good reviews of the place and people were saying how it was very close tasting to Boiling Crab). So we went to Boiling Crab and it was packed like it usually is at around 6:30 - 7:30 so we decided to head to Claws and give it a shot. Same food offerings as BC but many more things. We all ordered 2-3 lbs of crawfish, 1 lb of shrimp, and cajun fries(crawfish and shrimp at different times so its hot). I got the medium spicy cannonball and dang, that thing has a lot of garlic in it. It makes it sweeter than BC's whole-shebang and I dig it. The medium spicy is just like BC's medium spicy. The service was fine, just one waittress for the whole place basically. She was a cutie too by the way and really nice. Besides that though, and more importantly, the food was great. The original cajun seasoning is definitely better at BC but the cannonball seasoning and whole-shebang are neck and neck for me. Don't hesitate to come here, its good. read more

Claws is a very good alternative to The Boiling Crab, especially when The Boiling Crab's wait times get too long (which happens a lot). I've been to Claws several times and have ordered their Cajun Fries, Cajun Wings, Fried Calamari, Crunchy Cajun Rolls as appetizers before. Their Cajun Fries are really good. My friends and I always have at least one order of this. Their fries are skinny just the way I like them. They are season with spice and are crispy. The same goes for their Cajun Wings and Fries. Perfectly fried and seasoned. The Crunchy Cajun Roll is also good. I had mine with chicken. The outside is very crunchy and the inside is gooey because of the cheese. It offers a nice contrast in texture. Now, when you come to Claws, you have to go for the Under the Sea bag. It's 4 lbs. of crawfish, shrimps, clams, and mussels. They also throw in some corn, potatoes, and sausages. If you don't like all those, then you can get bags of certain types of seafood. Whichever route you go, you will also have to pick seasoning and spiciness. I usually get "Cannon Ball" and Spicy. Cannon Ball is basically Cajun, Garlic Butter, and Lemon Pepper. If that's too much, you can always just get either or. If the seafood bags are too much for you, Claws also offers other entrees. I've only tried the Seared Pacific Salmon and it was really good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and wasn't too dry. It is glazed with a grand marnier sauce that isn't too overpowering. It comes on top of rice and steamed vegatables. I have never tried their Oysters before, but I am told that the Oysters are not as good as The Boiling Crab. Claws has great food, and I would've rated it 5 stars, but their customer service is what gives Claws only 4. The staff is slow and sometimes forgets items. read more

This should be a top alternative to Boiling Crab. In comparison, I would say Claws has better food and service while BC offers a better atmosphere. Claws offers more Cajun variety and bigger servings. I highly recommend 2 lbs of shrimp and clams for a group Of 2-4 people. If youre on a date, a serving of cajun fries or chicken tenders on the side would be a great choice. They also serve a wonderful ribeye entree with steamed rice. The shrimp they use is almost twice the size of BC's. You will always end up leaving with a full stomach. While the restaurant is pretty small v. BC , they make it up with fast service. read more

I was totally faithful to Boiling Crab for about 3 years until I got fed up with the wait. Hungry, I strayed from my first craw experience and went to Claws. My first visit was pleasant but as I kept coming back, the crawfish/shrimp tasted inconsistent. Sometimes the seafood was under seasoned and tasted like straight up melted butter. A good day at Claws actually tastes like Boiling Crab's off day. So far, I can't find a place that can hold a candle to BC. Claws does have some redeeming qualities; no wait, extensive menu, more seafood variety, and cost friendly meal packages. Also the service is just okay. Bottom line: If you can't stand the wait and just want a quick seafood fix, go to Claws, order some calamari and call it a day. Keep in mind that Claws' seasoning mix doesn't beat BC. read more

This is for the SHRIMP ONLY just because I only eat a ton load of shrimp.. The Shrimp here is FAT. I mean FAT-ter than Boiling Crab. BC's shell on the shrimp is soft and the flavor is just Way Too Strong! If you are like me, I like things simple and flavor not so strong. This is the place to get it, peeps and this is coming from a guy with really strong taste buds. I can taste a difference in each and every water bottle there is as well as sink water. YES. It's that intense... ANyways.. I gotta give some love to the wings as well. Cajun style MmMmMm! YUMMY as hell. Never knew the wings were so good here. Sweet Potatoe fries: DO NOT GET. This is where BC takes it. Their SPF are on point. Here, it's a little too much seasoning and burnt. Other than that, this place takes the cake peeps. Little brother insisted on this place for his birthday, so we all nodded and thought sure why not! Well.. $50 bucks and 2 hours later, we can all agree that we will not be visiting this place EVER again. We ordered the first combo, two pounds shrimp, one pound clams with some extra fixings like corn and potatoes. It came with some cajun fries which were deliciously crispy and well seasoned. The seasoning we chose was "Cannon Ball" and medium spicy. Well, let me translate that.. aka salt, salt, more salt and then some more salt after that. My first couple nibblings I thought, hey maybe this is just a concentrated part of the sauce but lo' and behold -- the sauce was FLAVORLESS, non-spicy at all and completely dominated by SALT. I'm no crawfish connoisseur but I've had my fair share of experience to know that this sauce is B-A-D. Come here only if you enjoy extreme saltiness and are in good health that can tolerate said saltiness. The service was poor to say the least. We were initially served by a nice young girl named Marilyn. But I take she had to take a lunch break because for the bulk of our meal she was no where to be seen. We beckoned for service from other servers (most of whom were nameless, simply "trainee"). We asked 4 times for sugar, twice from the same person. We were ignored -- only to finally get it at the end of the meal from Marilyn. We were promised a scoop of ice cream in recognition of my brother's birthday. 20 minutes passed, check signed, meal clearly over, again -- ignored. It's a shame our dining experience had to suffer because of "trainee" staff. I feel everything would have been OK if we had Marilyn, oh wait she was the one who promised ice cream never mind. Oh and the sinks had no paper towels to dry your hands, awesome. I voiced my concerns with the host (also a trainee) only to be met with an excuse that today was busier than usual. Inexcusable. These kids need to re-take customer service 101. To my mistake, perhaps I should have spoken to the manager/owner or someone who knew something. Unfortunately they didn't have a customer feedback survey so I voice through yelp. Simply put, don't go here. It's not worth your money or your time. Best bet is probably to order Boiling Crab To-Go and eating at home, 9/10 times. One star for good cajun fries. ill be completely honest. i had lunch plans with my friend to eat at claws cus she liked claws more than boiling crab. the night before, i went drinking and i was hungover..but i didnt want to rain check our lunch date just cus i was hungover so i drove over to claws, miserably. by the time i got there, i felt a little bit better. enough parking and we went right when it opened so it had enough seats. all the workers were friendly, probably cus it wasnt busy and they just opened. because it is not as popular as boiling crab, wait is a bit shorter, so its a good substitute. we first started off with fries, which was really crispy. we got mild and seasoning was perfect. i got a pound of shrimp, medium with cannonball seasoning (all three flavors in one). wow. my friend wasnt kidding. shrimp was cooked to perfection, it wasnt over cooked. it was so easy to take off the shell (if you overcook the shrimp, shell gets soft and sticks to the shrimp). shrimps were seasoned really well. food is delicious here. they have really good drinks too: peach iced tea and strawberry lemonade. they put real fruits in the drink. yum! they also have really good happy hour here! read more

I've been here quite a few times because I like the food and I prefer the seasoning and flavor of the sauce better than boiling crab or kickin crab. I came here with some other coworkers for dinner tonight during their slow hours. Since there were 6 of us, gratuity was charged in the bill. Which is fine, but it doesn't mean good and tentative service should be out the door. Our waitress took our orders and after our food came out, she never came back to check on us or refill our drinks. We had to look around and search for her. If the restaurant was busy, I could understand but it was slow so there is no excuse why we didn't get out refills and the service we deserve. Overall poor service. *3.5 STARS* I've been here twice my most recent visit was last night 12/17/2014 I ordered 1 lb. of unpeeled shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish (I was not allowed to order half lbs.) sausage which is served in a min. qty of 14 pieces and corn on the cob in the cannonball seasoning with a spice level of medium. I would've liked my food to be hotter it went cold very quickly once it made it to the table. I think i may have been shorted on my shrimp it didn't feel like 1 lb. The taste is better than average, however it is not the best around. Drinks are priced very well that is a definite PLUS. No liquor. Only beer and wine. We were told most of our party had to be there so before giving us a table (which I understand) but this was on a weekday and the restaurant was not busy at all. This is my go-to for my crawfish, clam, mussel, and shrimp fixes. Flaaava flav: Every crawfish place has a signature sauce and theirs is the "cannonball" - cajun, lemon pepper, and garlic butter combined into a magical concoction of goodness. The sauce is what keeps me running back here. I've found that the sauce at other places have gotten more oily, but Claws gets the texture just right. Each bag of seafood is packed with flavor! I've been a loyal customer for years now and am still satisfied each visit/to-go pick up. I'm a little disappointed at how much the prices have gone up in the last couple of years. For instance the 3lb combo meal used to be $36 and is now $46. However, I understand businesses need to account for inflation and whatnot. Heads up: If you're planning to order to-go, they will have you do a trial visit where they wont start prepping your order until you arrive for your first time. This is to ensure that you're good for your word and will show up. After that, the food is ready for pick up within 15-20 minutes on their non-busy days! read more

Love love love this place. I've never had to wait for a table (unlike the hour+ I've had to wait at other places) and the food is just as delicious and the environment just as fun. Crawfish season is usually February to July, but this place has shrimp, crab, and mussels year-round usually. I actually prefer Claws over Boiling Crab and others because the menu is pretty extensive, especially if you are in a group and have folks that aren't into getting their hands dirty (yeah, they're no fun). They've got a ton of appetizers (love the cajun fries) and a lot of entrees and sides (gotta get a loaf of bread to soak up that delicious cannonball sauce!). read more

First let me start by saying "The writing is on the wall"...literally. I'm not sold on the sign your name on the wall concept that seems to be the norm at these places. But you get the same kind of atmosphere in a gas station restroom. It's called tagging, and I couldn't be any more unimpressed if the toilet seat, restroom mirrors, tables, chairs, tv screens had writing all over it also. I kinda like the pirate theme, at least it's something that shows a little thought went into the restaurant. But that's another "Idea was good, but the execution wasn't". You can't just google "pirates" and print out a bunch of pictures and call it a decoration. Kinda funny that the pirate pics are bolted into the wall in the restroom, I doubt anyone is gonna steal them. Service....I'd say it was interesting. He wasn't bad per say, water, drinks and food all came and went in fairly orderly fashion. But it cant be too hard to dump a bag of boiled seafood on the table and leave. Upon ordering the server asked if we wanted to keep a menu so we could order more as needed, but as our food first started coming out..The laminated menu seemed to be made of silk as the server was so adamant about taking it so it wouldn't get dirty. Then it went down hill from there...every odd thing he did now was heavily scrutinized. Even an understandable question, like if we could change our Louis Vuitton™ butcher paper table cover seemed like a ridiculous request. Look buddy, I didn't tell you to apply for a job there so don't blame the customers if the pirate waiter from freecreditreport.com commercial was made about you. So other than the oddness of the waiter. Food was awesome, 4lbs of Shrimp, 2 Lbs of King Crab Legs, 2 Large orders of Cajun Fries, Chicken wings, for 5 people came out to about $125 with tax and an undeserved 15% tip. We got there around 4pm and there was no wait, but by the time we left around there was one. So as long as you can boil a bunch of seafood in a bag and throw a ton of butter, lemon, garlic, red stuff....the pics of Orlando Bloom in the restroom, snobby waiters and graffiti isn't really going to matter to me. Oh and BTW. We hid a shrimp somewhere in the restaurant. The waiter who served us should remember us from yesterday, where we sat, and his tip he didn't deserve, and should spend sometime improving his service by turning everything upside down and cleaning. read more

This is another awesome cajun restaurant in this area. I found Claws after getting really tired of waiting forever at Boiling crab. On weekends and dinner times Claws has some wait, but never as ridiculous as Boiling crab. Claws' food is as good as Boiling crab and I think Claws' menu is easier to order. They have combos that include little bit of everything. I've brought many out of town friends and cajun seafood novice friends, and they all liked the food and the experience. read more

For garlic lovers indeed. They are not stingy with it at all and some. They are definitely a "come back" "hit that" "got my fix" sort of place. The Difference ... Compared to the all popular Boiling Crab which sorta started this whole Crazin'Cajun mecca of this area. Claws throws Boiling Crab out the water. Tiny and tidy, but the wait is soo much less. The abundance of lime is way way better. The service is immediate. The flavors are about the same. And the plus is that they give a lot of garlic. Once we were told the wait would be about an hour for 2 people at Boiling Crab, we were immediately sold on Claws. And better yet, Claws delivers. Win win! :) read more

As Boiling Crab's #1 Fan, I give two thumbs up to Claws. Claw's shrimp is actually much larger and more fresh than Boiling Crab. Sauce is almost just as good although the shrimp doesn't absorb as much flavor. I always get garlic bread because there's real garlic spread on top and its delicious to dip into the sauce.
