I was really excited for my first ever California burrito experience, but sadly, I left this experience feeling a bit gross. I think I may have felt better if I split the burrito with another person, so learn from that mistake of mine. But even so, the chicken didn't taste the freshest. I am disappointed to see that the menu now has a green V symbol next to the veggie burrito indicating that it is vegetarian. I asked if the rice is still made with chicken broth and was told that it is. The veggie burrito is NOT vegetarian and it is misleading to give it the vegetarian symbol on the menu. I understand that people like the rice made with chicken broth and that's fine, but to use it in an item that is labeled vegetarian is not okay. Katherine, the manager, was easy to work with, and very professional, as we ordered 25 burritos with extra crispy hashbrowns. They were delivered, hot, halved, with plenty of salsa. I was so excited to finally be able to go to Claytons Mexican Food. However I was soon to experience severe disappointment and stomach distress . Is it possible to ruin a beef taco? They did ! Woof. The food is bad. I mean it is my fault for relying on Google reviews, not checking Yelp, and for going to a Mexican place called "Claytons". Chicken enchilada was tasteless, had too much sauce poured on the side, the edges were desiccated bone dry, with a bland taste in the middle. It comes with two, and I barely ate one, and left the second one for a homeless person to eat (though I doubt they would if they saw it was from Clayton's). Veggie burrito was a fail. How can you fail a burrito? Well, ask the folks at this fine failure of a Mexican joint. Tasteless, bland, the definition of cafeteria food in a school from the 90's. Don't be fooled by the crowd. They may be hungry, but that is not an indication of authentic, delicious, REAL Mexican food. You will not find it here. One star for friendly staff. Another star for a quaint location. Update: As per my last review. I ordered the La Reina burrito and received the El Rey burrito. The owner then told me that they don't serve an "El Rey" burrito. Normally if I don't care for a place I just never return, but Clayton's MTO deserves a review. We called in an order and paid for what we ordered, 2 combo dinners, guacamole, chips & salsa, and carrots and jalapenos plus jalapeno cheese sauce which was apparently added for some unknown reason. I know - shame on me for not checking my order but when I saw the two cardboard carryout dinner containers I assumed our dinners were there. Not so - it was one dinner split between 2 containers. My husband called and was assured that the charges for what we didn't get plus the charge for cheese sauce we didn't order would be removed from our credit card, but that hasn't happened. So service gets negative stars. The food that we did receive was perfectly awful. The salsa is basically canned tomatoes. The tortilla chips are the worst I've ever tasted - too thick and way overcooked. Bean toastada - thick overcooked tortilla with mashed pinto beans on top. Cheese enchilada - all round weird sauce and taste. Can't speak for the chicken enchiladas even though I paid for them. Guacamole was ok. Go to the grocery store and get a frozen Mexican dinner, a bag of Tostitos, and a jar of picante sauce. It'll taste a lot better and you will, at least, get what you've paid for. read more

Clayton's Take Out is conveniently located right next door to Clayton's Coffee Shop. Both of these places get insanely busy at the day progresses. After a couple trips to the island and always walking past this place I decided to give them a try. I had a craving for carne asada and stepped into Clayton's for a steak quesadilla. The take out location itself is very small (no room for more than 4 bodies inside) and it took us a few minutes to place the order. The lady at the counter was friendly but the wait for the food seemed to take forever. As I stated before this place can get extremely busy and it seems that they had numerous call in orders ahead of us before our food was made. Once the food came out and we found a place to sit I took the first bite and although the quesadilla was made nicely the flavor punch just wasn't there. The steak seemed a bit dry and needed a lot of salsa which I asked for to give this as much flavor as possible. I am sure the next time I am down here that I will give them another try but will definitely lean toward getting something completely different off the menu. Every single time I come here, I keep wanting to like it.. Like literally anything about it at all.. Because my husband absolutely loveeees & adores this place..... BUT I keep getting disappointed.
