This is my daughter's favorite place for bubble tea. The picked vegetables are excellent. The steamed veggie dumplings were flavorful and perfectly steamed. The dumpling sauce was soy sauce, not dumpling sauce, and I had a problem with that. My fried tofu curry was - nicely packaged. I had to try this spot since it's right across from one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, and been meaning to try all the good boba tea spots. This one certainly is up there on my list of boba tea spots, fairly short wait times for food and service and tasty tea! Their tea compared to most others I'd say is more on the creamier side, but their tapioca perls have a certain sweetness to it. Coco's Cafe is our go-to when we are craving boba. The coconut smoothie is our favorite! Flavor is not overwhelmingly sweet, it's just the right amount of sweet. When you add pearls to your drink they pack it with them! Ordering online was super easy. They have many options for you to customize your drink to your liking. Staff is really friendly too. Our pickup time wasn't until after 7:30 but I walked in before to let them know I was there and they were able to make my drink in less than 5 min. My son is new in town and we were looking for a boba place. We were by Coco's before and decided to try them. The place is pretty cool. Lots of table and even bar stools. You basically order at the front. The drink menu is above the counter and the food menu is to the side. Didn't realize they served actual food here too. Anyways, I ordered the passion fruit slushie with pearls and my son got the strawberry and mango slushie with pearls. I though it was actually very good. The one thing I noticed is the pearls were not really chewy so to me that means they are pretty fresh. Really like my slushie and so did my son. So what we found out is you wait for your name to be called for the drink orders and they bring your food to your table for your food orders. I admit... This is probably my most favorite soup place in all of Austin. Why? All because of their Spicy Beef Noodle Soup of course! It's hot, spicy, and super hearty! I'll take a bowl of this over Texas chili on a cold and rainy day. Their beef is usually extremely tender -as if it simmered for 8 hours the night before. I haven't been here in years, since my first stop was over 15 years ago in college. The inside is contemporary and roomy and snacks/meals/drinks are offered. I had the tarot milk which was spot on. I didn't have tapioca so this review will not talk about whether or not they have the perfect boba. I had the fried chicken nuggets which for under $10 is a great deal and an excellent snack to go with your milk tea or boba drink. 1. Long waiting time for online order pickup 2. Missing item, the staff forgot to give me my add-on food It took so long to get my online orders. I ordered 3 items on their website around 8pm, later I drove 20 minutes to the restaurant, but the food was still not ready. I had to wait outside for another 20 minutes to get my stuff. While I was waiting there, I noticed that the people entered the store after me get the orders before me. I feel that the restaurant gives food first to indoor dining customers, and treats online order as second. I know that because I have been to this restaurant for a few times for indoor dining, and I usually receive my food in 10-15 minutes, but online order just takes them longer. PS. I always order the same food. Later, I opened the food at home, I found out that they messed up my order and forgot to give me my add-on item. It's an awkward experience. I hope they can do a more detailed job. Tips: Just walk inside the store to order the food, that way, you can probably receive the food faster. Tips: Open all the boxes and check your order before you leave. Because sometimes the staff may give you the wrong food or wrong quantity. read more

This is a review for their hot taro boba tea. Let me preface by saying that I'm a boba bish with high standards. I'm that Asian who gets pissed when the boba isn't QQ/chewy enough, or if the tea spot doesn't use real tea leaves and ingredients *cough real taro chunks cough.* So I wanted a hot drink with boba pearls in it because it was cold and rainy, so taro was basically the one that jumped out at me. I asked for the least amount of sugar in it, and it wasn't overly sweet (thank goodness!). Service was efficient and did the best they could even with all of the far-out customers--there was a lady who literally gave the cashier her phone so the cashier took the order via her phone. It was nuts! The good thing is this is great as a kid's hangout, place to get some light work done (strong and free wifi!), or go after some food in the popular plaza. A few friends and I stopped by after pho. The bummer is that when we went the restroom wasn't in order, so no one could use it. They have hot and cold drinks, as well as food items too if you're craving some Taiwanese "small bites" like beef noodle soup or popcorn chicken. I would stick to Kung Fu for boba, but if I was in this area again I'd try a different (probably cold boba) item at Coco's. read more

But then I love Bubble Teas in 638,000 different establishments. Bubble Tea Lovers who want to stretch their sensual experiences Should sometimes order COFFEE at a Bubble Tea place. We all take for granted the assumption that if you go to a Vietnamese place you have Vietnamese coffee with that really good condensed milk on top. Frankly, Taiwanese iced coffee is just as good. And putting in Taiwanese texture lumps Makes your coffee a helluva lot more interesting. (I vote for the egg custard myself) I got iced coffee. It tasted great. I got to play with the custard cubes. And I was flying with a massive caffeine buzz for the next eight hours. What's the downside? * * * The food at Coco's has improved significantly over the course of the last decade. Back in ancient times, snacks at Coco's ran towards the greasy side. They looked great, but sat in your stomach for hours. They have cut back their menu - getting rid of most of the items that used to count as grease sponges. So what's left is pretty good. There are a lot of noodles on the menu. This might seem odd since they are competing with Ramen Tatsuya which is only three doors away. But getting into Ramen Tatsuya is harder than getting into the University of Chicago. Lots and lots of people were happily chowing down on the noodles at Coco's. This includes a lot of Taiwanese elderly people as well as young Taiwanese families who presumably know what Asian noodles are supposed to taste like. So if you don't want to wait four hours for the ultimate ramen noodle epiphany at Ramen Tatsuya, You can go to Coco's and have noodles approved by a jury of seasoned noodle eaters. * * * Noodles, however, are not the biggest food thrill at Coco's. What you want is a special combo of a house dish and a house sauce. Order the spiced eggs. These are two hard boiled eggs which have been boiled in a spiced teriyaki sauce. They are listed as an appetizer and they don't cost much. Trust me ... if you get a bubble tea with this ... the eggs count as a whole meal. They're filling. Now the eggs are lovely by themselves ....... buuuuuut ........ Take a little walk over to the sauce stand, and notice the soy sauce with sliced Taiwanese green peppers. The sauce is crammed with the green peppers. Take a good bowl of that and dump it all over your eggs. Food For The Gods. The peppers would be too hot to take straight out without something to cut it. The hard boiled eggs are comfort food with their boiled in Teriyaki stock giving warmth and suaveness. Richness and suaveness combined with fire and hot pepper taste. This is a combo that can't be beat. I could eat Taiwanese eggs with hot peppers all day and all night and be one happy Yelper. Give me a creamy iced coffee with egg custard to match - and make me an ecstatic Yelper. * * * All of the local cooking prizes will still have to go to Ramen Tatsuya. But if this is the world's answer to second best, Then the world is a wonderful wonderful place to be. read more

Coco's is one of the most reliable and consistent places on my will-always-come-back list of restaurants. I started with the Coco's on campus, but now this location on Research is a nice upgrade. After years of eating their food, this review is long overdue. I've tried several items on their menu, but my current usual is the Peppercorn chicken. This dish takes the magical combination of stir fried jalapenos and garlic and piles it over wonderfully fried dark meat chicken. The complimentary vegetable soup is also a favorite. I think the recipe might've changed a bit a few years back, but it's still delicious and addicting. Austin needs more Taiwanese restaurants, but for now, I'm happy with what we got. read more

Bubble tea: AVOID! They put wayyyy too much milk in their bubble tea, you can hardly taste the tea. The bubbles aren't cooked very well the few times I've tried their bubble tea. There are so many better places around Austin, this should be your last resort. Food: Mediocre at best, I've gotten their noodle soup and the pork rice bowl. The pork rice bowl is very very dry, not much flavor to it. Their noodle soup is decent, depends how you like your beef noodle soup base. Through the years, after trying out a few different things, we have settled to always order the Peppercorn Chicken w/ rice, the Green Onion Pie, and sometimes the Sticky Rice w/ Pork. This time we ate here two days in a row because that Peppercorn Chicken w/ rice is seriously just that good!!! Just the right amount of sweetness as well. Cons: Seriously, why is the kid with the blonde hair with glasses so fixated to count his tips when customers are in front of him asking for assistance? I asked if they had any smoothies they made with real fruit. In a tone of "I'm too busy and don't care" he says Avocado and Watermelon. A minute later, I asked if they brew their Thai Tea or do they make it through powder? He says "I don't know..." then I asked him in a real dumb founded face, "you don't know?" And he replies again, "I don't know." The girl in the background making drinks made eye contact with me and could have helped him, but nope. Went to Coco Cafe to get some foods and drink. Ordered 3 Fried Chicken with rice and it's perfect. Had 1 appetizer of the fried tofu but the tofu itself is not fully fried, hence the flour on the bottom of the tofu were super sticky and chewy like gummy. We love this place. So unpretentious, very casual, and a provider of clean, delicious food. They have a limited menu, but everything we have ordered thus far has been delicious and well-made. Even when you order on the phone, when you get there, you have to pay at the same counter as the ordering counter. It's been a couple of years since our last visit to this place due to the pandemic. The price was up, but the increase wasn't significant compared to other restaurants. We were wondering how they could survive. And we got the answer. My favorite beef noodle soup didn't taste as good as it used to be, and the beef wasn't as fresh. 3 star for the boba, but 4 star overall for the ambience and friendly staff. From what I've been told Coco's was one of the first and longest serving boba tea places in the Austin area. I understand the loyalty and following they have. Great location- located in a plaza with a lot of parking and other Asian restaurants and supermarket. Swing by here after a bowl of ramen at Tatsuya. You can taste the powder in the tea; this alone does not make it a high quality boba tea place. But they have a variety of appetizers you can share with friends while you play their countless board games. Okay is rating is strictly for the food. I am sooooo disappointed, I've eaten here with our an issue till now. Our 1st order was 3 milk teas that were delivered in lighting speed. As expected the drinks were full flavored and delicious. Our next order involved the onion pancake and fried sweet potatoes. To our amazement it took 30 minutes for the food to reach our table. This set a bad tone for the meal. Once they finally bought the meal I was shocked by what was in front of me. Sweet potato fries with a dipping sauce - cost over 5 bucks. Then looked over to the other side to see a sad representation of onion pancakes. I found then bead like with just a sprinkling of onions. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I always hear people complain that this location only takes cash. I dont think that people understand how difficult and expensive it is, especially for a local small business to have a credit card machine set up. There are many places nearby before that have ATMs, and I believe they just recently put in an ATM in Coco's. I go to Coco's alot and have always been very happy with the drinks I get, just recently I started eating there as well. I was recommended to try the spicy beef noodle soup and the peppercorn chicken. Both were super delicious. The spicy beef noodle soup is as close as what I have gotten when i was in Taiwan, with the shredded mustard pickled veggie on top. As for drinks, I go for the classic milk tea with pearls. Another favorite thing i love is the shaved ice. I go there alot during the summer for them and have introduced alot of my friends to it as well. They love that they get to pick their own toppings and kind of make it their own. At $4 each for a big cup, it beats most ice cream shops for a delicious treat. read more

I grew up eating coco's since I was a little kid, so it definitely has a nostalgia factor for me. This is a good backup plan if you're trying to go to Tatsuya but the line is insanely long. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu but my favorites are still the popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup. The fried tofu appetizer is pretty good too. Prices are very reasonable, you get a lot of food for the money. They also serve a few Taiwanese street food options that are pretty hard to find anywhere else. Quality varies though depending on what you get. The location on Research has free soup which is a bonus. A pretty big negative for me is their milk tea. Most of their stuff is still a powder base (at least that's what the people behind the counter tell me when I ask) when most other shops are trending towards more natural ingredients and fresh brewed teas. If they switched over to fresh brewed teas, I'd give it five stars. read more
