Food: We split the Cacio e Pepe tostada and the Naked Demi Drink. The tostada was delightful; cheesy, crispy and savory. The drink was a lot like a margarita. Their hot sauce was worth a try, not too hot and plenty flavorful. Venue: This place is absolutely beautiful. There is tons of natural light and the whole layout is very open and airy. There is a standard patio as well as a few outdoor bar tables in addition to the traditional seating inside and bar area. The ambiance is incredible and is definitely the main allure of this place. From the looks and small taste of it, the food is spectacular but I will say that it is extremely expensive and the portions are very small. While I enjoyed my time, $13 for a small tostada is nowhere near my preferred budget for food. read more

I've been meaning to go here FOREVER and finally went this week!!! My main tip is make a reservation!!!!! They are BUSY and having a reservation will make your life a lot easier! I order the Claudestina as my drink and that was super good. A little smoky though, so I'm unsure if I'd get it again. But I liked how they present the drinks in a fun way. For food, I got the cacio e pepe toastada and the mushroom taco. To be honest...and don't hate me...the cacio e pepe didn't impress me a ton. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it honestly tasted just like really high quality cheese on a chip. Adding the hot sauce they gave with it made it a lot better. I'm unsure if I'd get it again. The mushroom tacos, on the other hand, were AMAZING. Probably one of the best tacos I've ever had. Absolutely delicious and so flavorful. The service here was incredible and the ambience is A+++ We came in around 9pm without reservations and it was so packed we had to wait to sit at the bar. This was not a bad thing. The bartenders were very skillful in making the unique drinks from the menu. It was fun observing them put together this pink drink with bubbles (like from a bubble bath) on top of the drink and seeing the customers' reactions. I'd come again for the drinks and dessert. My boyfriend and I came here for date night after reading about Colita in an article and how it's a "must try". He has a mostly plant based diet and I loved the variety Colita offered! The ambiance was beautiful. Modern, real candles lit at each table (haven't seen that in a long time!!), beautifully decorated space. The server was such a sweetheart. They do ask that you wear your mask if they come to the table. At first I thought that would be difficult to remember or awkward, but it was an easy adjustment and flow throughout the evening. The server made us feel so welcome. Out of all of the dishes we ordered (they're smaller plates, we went through 4 of them & dessert and felt perfectly satiated), the eggplant tostada was one of the best as well as the quesadilla! There were definitely seats that opened up sooner but we loved the ambiance and decided to wait the two hours for a table, which was definitely well worth it. I really enjoyed the ambience of this restaurant. It felt very spacious and fresh. On this beautiful day the patio was open, as well as a side wall that was open providing fresh air and sunlight into the restaurant if sitting inside. I had a reservation for 5pm when it opened and was seated right away. We started off with drinks. Their cocktail selection all sounded delicious with from floral infused options to this really cool looking liquid nitrogen infused drink. My friend and I both got the Puerto Rican Heartbreaker which was a pamplemousse (grapefruit) drink infused with hibiscus. It was delicious. For food there is a variety of options whether you want meat to vegetarian. The plates are a bit small and pricey but the food was exquisite. I got the tuna tostada which was raw tuna on top of a fried tortilla and sandwiched between the tortilla was avocado. It was delicious and refreshing with every bite. My fried got the wild mushroom tlayuda which was also really delicious and flavorful. At the end of the meal with the check, you get a piece of mexican chocolate which hit the spot. Overall, this place was wonderful. Trying it for the first time and coming in with little to no prep, I was really impressed! I would definitely come again! read more

As a big fan of Martina, I highly recommend trying Colita. It was arguably a better overall experience than Martina, for all the right reasons. We ordered 4 dishes: Tuna Tostada, Wild Mushroom Tlayuda, Kansas City Pork Ribs, and Lamb Barbacoa Tacos. The dishes are smaller and meant to be shared, and they were all delicious. I also appreciated the waiter explaining each dish when she brought them out. For desserts, we had been recommended to order the churros as they were "life changing", and they really were. Me and my fiance each ordered a drink, I would say they tasted good, but didn't contain much alcohol. The service was excellent, and we didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. Don't let the lack of open reservation times scare you - the wait is worth it. I can't believe I'm about to do this but I'm docking a restaurant a star for a plastic animal - it has to be done. When you spend way too much time on Instagram and reading Yelp reviews you go in with high expectations. When you've been waiting for 2 months to get the fancy drink with a rubber ducky in it and to take a picture for all to see, but it doesn't come with the rubber ducky a little piece of you has died. I thought oh maybe they were all stolen, that makes sense. We were told the rubber ducky's had gone away for various reasons including being a sustainable restaurant which I didn't get but sounded good. As our meal progressed and we saw multiple tables with bubbly drinks with rubber ducky's and we felt betrayed. Putting aside the rubber ducky incident, Colita is absolutely amazing and I can see why everybody wants to go here. We did 4 dishes for 2 people and left feeling very full. We had the beef tongue tacos, the elote, the fried green tomato salad and one other dish I can't recall right now but was dubbed a mexican pizza. All of it was simply amazing. Best food I've had in ahwile. We picked drinks that would make good instagram pics like the papa noel and naked dani. Both amazing even with slightly less booze than preferred. We did see high chairs so kids are welcome but I'm not sure I'd bring mine. Well be back, we made a reservation for 2 months out at the end of the meal. We walked in shortly after 5pm for our reservation and got seated promptly. It was a Friday, by 6:30pm the restaurant was already completely full - both indoor and outdoor areas. No wonder why people book weeks in advance to secure a decent dining time. Loved the interior design - super sleek and modern, the living wall in the bar was my favorite. Our wait staff was very attentive and gave us great suggestions on what to order. Everything we had was beyond amazing. Start with the fancy drinks we got: Laundry Cake & Serial Killers vodka, cucumber, saffron co² horchata koji (rice ferment) $11 Papa Noel vodka, lime, co² tepache (pineapple ferment) $12 Handcrafted, beautifully decorated and absolutely tasty. The food was equally great, we had: Tuna Tostada raw tuna, avocado, sesame, tomato jam, cilantro, celery leaf $18 - Perfectly seasoned tuna cubes on crunchy taco shells, adding the toasted sesame seeds, a bit of cilantro and avocado sauce it's like a dance party in your mouth. Kansas City Pork Ribs tamarind, sweet herbs, peas, radish, tortilla crumble, parmesan $19 -It's easy to mess up ribs as they could get dry if overlooked, but Colita delivered 150% on this. The ribs were juicy and tender with just the right amount of seasoning and spices, loved the smoky flavor too. Seared Scallops corn puree, corn salsa, tamarind, burnt husk $18 - I'm a huge fan of seared scallops and have had this at hundreds of places over the years, I wouldn't say Colita did the best but it was very well done. After waiting over a month for our long-anticipated reservation, I had very high expectations going into this much hyped hot spot. You'd never know this was once a gas station as it has been transformed into a gleaming, hip dinner spot on what is becoming a popular restaurant corner in south Minneapolis. Someone spent a ton of money of this place and the design show. The food is goumet Mexican and all the of the things we tried were 4-5 stars in terms of taste and quality including the Shrimp tacos and Chicken Tinga Tostados. I really enjoyed the Puerto Rican heart breaker drink too. My main gripe is that the PORTIONS are TINY and there is no indication on the menu or explanation by the waiters that this is the case. One needs to re-calibrate when eating here. When we go out, typically a shared appetizer, salad and a couple of main courses is plenty of food. NOT HERE. We started with the tasty Crispy masa chips - which should more accurately be described as "CHIP" (singular, not plural) - as it is one large blue corn chip, about the size of a romaine lettuce leaf - insufficient for one, and Definitely not enough for two - but then its only $5 - so order 1-2 per person or more. It comes with about 1/4 cup of guac. The refreshing Puerto Rican heartbreaker was served in a tiny, doll-sized glass, but did come with a small glass container for a refill so that wasn't so bad. The Tempura shrimp tacos were the closest thing we ordered to a normal sized portion and my wife enjoyed them. The Chicken tinga tostados, while delicious, weren't even appetizer size - the two in the order where assembled on crisp house made tostados that were perhaps 3-4" in diameter each. Now, had we been told what to expect, perhaps I would have ordered more food, instead I seriously thought about picking up a Pizza on the way out from the excellent shop next door. I liked that both restaurants had their similarities but also some wonderful differences. We sat outside and ordered an array of dishes, and all were excellent (we shared as a table). I made reservations nearly a month in advance and was so excited to try Colita - I am happy to report that it did not disappoint! The food was fantastic! I had the fried green tomatoes (favorite dish of the night), tuna tostada, shrimp tacos, corn elote, cacio e pepe stacked tostadas and the churro. Everything was great. The most interesting dish was the cacio e pepe tostadas given that it is normally a pasta dish, so the tostada interpretation was fun and delicious. It was served with an eye dropper of hot sauce (which wasn't hot enough to warrant that serving mechanism, but it was fun). Make sure to save room for dessert because you won't want to kiss the churros. I had heard the cocktails were fantastic and reasonably priced. The presentation was over the top and very Instagram-ready. While they were affordable and delicious, I don't think you got much in your glass. TLDR: Good food, acceptable pricing. Good service and very cute place! Would come back again. Ambience: I love the glass garage doors. It definitely opens the space up. The tables are close to each other, I could totally hear the conversations that were happening on both sides of my table. Very dark place (hard to take those insta pics). Service: our server was very attentive, water glass was always full. The food came up at a decent pace, we didn't have to wait long. Food: the food was really good and the price was decent. The two of us ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and 2 non-alcoholic beverages, and it came out to less than $45 pp including a 20 percent tip. Oyster on the shell: the vinaigrette paired really well with the oysters. The pomegranate added a nice texture, but it didn't really enhance the flavor much. It's a great combination! Elote: it was highly recommended by one of my foodie friends, it was good, but I did not think it was surprisingly good. It did save us a lot of hassle without having to eat it off the cob and it's easier to split this way. I like it, but I might try something different next time. Lamb Barbacoa Tacos: oooh it was so good, I just wish that for $16 we would have gotten another taco or 2 (am I'm too greedy?) The lime was a nice touch to cut off the grease from the meat, it's quite refreshing (but normal for tacos to use lime). I just love lime so much that I need to praise it every chance I can. Pork Ribs: GET THIS. I'm a firm believer of good pork ribs should not be "fall off the bone", when the meat "falls off the bone" it's over-cooked brother. The texture of this pork rib was done right - even my friend who loves fall of the bone ribs liked it a lot (I mean if that doesn't say something, I don't know what else I can say). The restaurant that makes me want to reevaluate so many of my past reviews, because this place has set the bar for a five star restaurant. It has been too long since a dining experience has exceeded my expectations. If there's one tip to take away from this review (besides saying YES MUST GO AND ORDER ALL THE THINGS) is go before 5pm if you want to grab a seat at the bar. Reservations are hard to come by in this intimate restaurant and the hype is still strong, and for good reason. We came here on a Wednesday and the bar was full not even 4 minutes after they opened. It was packed the entire night with people elbowing to snag seats before the previous diners could even finish signing their receipts. The food, oh the food. We got the fried green tomatoes, the chicken liver pate, beef tongue tacos, shrimp al pastor, and the churro dulce de leche and it was all not only beautifully presented but were deliciously flavorful as well. No need for salsas or hot sauce here. And the drinks are all just each different, exquisite personalities of their own. Just check out my photos to see what I'm talking about. Colita is in the Armatage neighborhood, a place to splurge on a nice evening out. The inside has a modern decor, large garage doors and plants beautifully backsplashing the bar. Reservations need to be made weeks in advance unless you want dinner after 9pm. We started with the Crispy masa chip, guacamole and 2 salsas. The masa is made in house, fresh on a daily basis. The guacamole and green salsa were more on the sour citrus side. The peanuts in the guacamole were a new flavor addition that I thought gave it a unique flavor. Next was the Charred Eggplant tostada. I have to say for a person who is not fond of eggplant, I was quite impressed with the sweet charred flavor. It was topped with a tomato salsa and burrata. It was on the same tostada that came with the guacamole plate. I also had the Horchata. It was served over ice in a wine glass which was nice, but there seemed to be a pineapple flavor that didn't vibe well with a drink that I'm accustomed to having that cinnamon and milky affect. Amazing! Talk about curating every single detail of an amazing experience. First, make sure you make reservations. We didn't and had to wing it at the bar, which was pretty packed at 5:30 on a Friday. We were 2 to 3 people deep at the bar and the bar tender handed us a sample of a drink. Ok convinced us to wait a bit for a spot to open at the bar to eat. Next thing you know they asked us if we wanted to coat check out jackets. Hook, line n sinker we were sold and crossed our fingers for a no show or cancellation. We got a table and the amazing experience continued. The highly curated experience included some really unique takes on hard to find Latin American beverages like tepache and pulque. The food was equally outstanding and unique blend of traditional Latin American ingredients and flavors with cool modern riffs. I had the butternut squash, mole and goat cheese salad. Loved it! Ribs were outstanding. One of the tostada specials was also to die for as was the passion fruit dessert. But the churros were so worthy of writing home about. Definitely a date night, leave the kids at home kinda place bc they would not appreciate sitting down and truly enjoying an evening of outstanding service and food. Wow is all I can say. Not sure where to start. First, when driving by you notice this very posh looking building in place of where a gas station used to be. Then you pull into the parking lot and realize it is Colita. Once inside you are greeted right away by the person at the front. When you walk in you noticed the dimly lit ambiance. Behind the bar it is decorated with a lush green wall and the rest of the decor is very simple but aesthetically pleasing. We started off with drinks. Naked Dani and the five suns. They both were so good. Naked Dani comes with a cute little rubber duck and is their take on a margarita. I enjoyed it because it is not as strong as some margaritas I have had elsewhere. It was topped with this salted foam which complimented the drink perfectly. For the five suns drink I can't even describe the taste. It is the most unique drink I have ever tried. If anyone has tried chrysanthemum tea it reminds me slightly of that but in a cocktail twist. For food we tried the beef tongue tacos and mahi mahi tacos. Both were delicious. I have never had beef tongue before so I was not sure what to expect. However, the meat was tender and slightly fatty. It was enjoyable. I felt that I needed a little kick to it and asked our server for some hot sauce. The hot sauce came in cute black drop bottles and definitely helped amp up the flavor. The mahi mahi tacos were seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed the cream sauce that was on them. Now for dessert I ordered the churros! They were soooooo good. I would keep going back here just to order those. They were shaped as little spirals and fried to perfection. The sugar/cinnamon outside of the fried dough was so great. Went here on a Friday after work with a friend. We had the shrimp tacos and I also got the elote. For dessert the churros. The shrimp tacos were very good tiny bit of spice. Fried shrimp and fried jalapenos. The elote was ok. Not the best I've had but not the worst. But the churros! O.... M.... G. I would go back just to eat those. Now here's where I struggle....an hour or so after coming home I had horrific stomach cramping. I asked my friend how she felt and she was fine. The only thing she didn't eat that I ate was the elote. So I'm not sure if that is what caused my pain or if it was something other than the food and it was just bad timing. I was invited here by a co-worker and she said I had to try the cocktails. The naked dani and the papa Noel were my favorite, but I really want to try the five suns and laundry cake and serial killers. We shared the cordero tartar (a type of lamb) and it was absolutely delicious. They had homemade pork rinds to scoop the tartare onto, and it was so good. It was almost charred on the outside but the perfect temperature for tartar when you scooped a bite. We also got the Cacio e pepe flat bread which was a nice spin on the hot dish in town. So much cheese and the special spicy sauce they give you to top it with is DELICIOUS but super spicy so use it sparingly. OMG! One of the best restaurants! the food- top notch! i would give it a 11/10. Service- Top notch, cocktails- They are not only delicious but soo pretty to look at. We tried about half the menu and my absolute fav was the tuna tostado! volcano of flavor with every bite! The chicken liver ( i usually hate liver) was soo good. The right combination of mousse with sweetness from fruits in that chicken liver. You have to try it. As for Desert- CHURROS with dulce, you would not want to stop eating. For a total of 7 dishes and 2 cocktails we paid about $130 only. and one of the dishes was lobster( which was about $25). Am just happy Colita opened. A+ service, food, and ambiance. I had an 8:30p reservation on a Friday night for a group of 4. When we got there, our table wasn't quite ready so we were invited to have a drink at the bar. The bartender gave us complimentary samples of their house-made fermentations. We tried birch-honey, rose, pineapple, and agave. Birch-honey is made from local birth trees and it was delish! We had several cocktails and all were delicious. The presentation for each was unique and fun (see pictures or drink ware). Cocktails were really well-priced! They were $7 - $10 for hand-crafted, house-fermented cocktails - cheaper than a Coors Light at a baseball game! Glasses of wine were reasonable - $9 - $16. Their wine list was on the smaller side but had great variety. The food was very well flavored and served in small, shareable plates. My group tried: -Tuna Tostada. This was one of our favorites. -Crispy Masa Chips. Great flavor though I wish it came with more chips. -Cacio e Pepe Stacked Tostadas. So cheesy and so good! -Fish tacos. These had jalepenos and were a bit spicy. -Corn Elote. OMG it was good! Basically street corn. -Seared scallops. The scallop sizes were on the larger size and the sauce was creamy and salty. -Churros for dessert. They were crispy and delicious! Four people had ~12+ cocktails (oopsies) and 7 dishes and our bill after a very generous tip was $300. The space is LOUD and would be good for a date. Having a conversation with 4 people was harder than I thought it would be and I'm not hard of hearing. It's fairly dimly lit with good mood lighting and candles. The tables were a mix of 2-seaters, 4-seaters, and even a few larger parties of 8 or 10. They have a parking lot and a vestibule you can wait in while you wait for a car. The bathrooms are unisex and have full-length mirrors (yes!) and washcloths for hand towels (yay, Earth). I had a wonderful time at Colita and will definitely go back! read more

Simply amazing little place. Only downside is the lack of parking. If you have a large group that you're meeting, (or even a date) be sure to either get here close to opening, or expect on street parking. Sat outside and was promptly greeted by our lovely waitress. She explained everything in detail on the menu, as well as the specialty drinks. Menu items are ala cart, and meant for sharing. To start, had gotten the Corn Elote as well as the Kansas City Pork Ribs. They were very well paired together Both items were so delicious, it was hard not to just stuff them down your mouth with even enjoying the flavor. Next, ordered the shrimp tacos and seared scallops. Another great pairing together. The scallops just melted in your mouth. Save some room for dessert, as the Chiro was a fantastic finish to a wonderful dinner Definitely a great place for a couples night out, or even a first time date night! read more

Our new favorite restaurant for sure. Amazing cocktails that bursted with flavor. They make their own in-house ferments. I have a moderate sulfite allergy but their menu (and bartenders, upon request) did a nice job of laying out cocktail ingredients, which is something I always appreciate. We had the elote (best I have EVER had)! Also had the lamb barbacoa tacos (fantastic) and the waygu beef brisket tacos (full of flavor but a little on the spicy side). For dessert we did the churros which were good but slightly overcooked. Fun atmosphere, surprisingly quiet for how busy they were, great service. It's a must-go in my book. Such good food! But make sure you make a reservation. Seriously, they are always busy. We went on a Tuesday night that was rainy and cold and the tables were all packed and the bar was constantly busy. However, if you make a reservation you don't need to have the long wait. But if you do want to pop in and don't mind waiting they have a super fun menu of cocktails and great decor to enjoy yourself while you wait. I recommend going with a few people who don't mind sharing food so you can try a little bit of everything! Highly recommend the seared scallops, Tuna Tostada and Corn Elote. I don't think you can go wrong with anything and the price is defiantly worth it for this amazing meal. Highly recommend stopping in! read more
