In front of my apartment building!! College Boy!
    Loretta A.

I am in Woodland Hills and College Boy Cheesesteaks is in front of my apartment! So I had to try! So amazing! I ordered the cheesesteak with everything, 2 cheeses and I loved how it was all melted together and full of steak! I could only eat half! I talked to the owner, the truck is named College Boy after her late son Kevin. Her story touched me. Delicious!

Great tasting cheesesteaks! Loved the size and taste. A little pricey for the size, but dammit it was worth it lol. The cheesesteak was moist and cheesy. The service was fast and friendly. I have no complaints at all. If you see this food truck, please try!

Meh, the steaks were nothing special. Definitely didn't meet my expectations. The bread didn't taste fresh. The meat was not flavorful . The amount of meat in the sandwiches is also very small. It barely makes a full hero. The fries however are excellent. The wait time was over 20 minutes and I was the only person in line. I also didn't appreciate how the lady who took my order just kept my change as a tip without even asking. She should have at least asked if I wanted my change back. I think the combo came out to $22 and change. I gave $23 and she took it and walked away. All in all very disappointing will not go back

It was alright, took a while to get my order. Not better than "South Philly Experience " but this is apparently the more authentic version. - the cheese goes on the bread rather than in the meat, so ask for extra cheese! I definitely wouldn't care to buy again. But it wasn't bad. -size is not that big, especially compared to other philly cheesesteak places.

The truck is parked at Ralph's by white oak and Ventura today

Saw then driving and had time stop. Glad I did the sandwich is amazing. Hot fresh and tasty

Major disappointment on this one - but I will put the disclaimer this was at a large convention. Spent an hour in line despite there only being 3 people in front of me. The food itself came out fairly soon after ordering, so I imagine something happened with the chef. Regardless, I ordered a the chicken with Pepperjack and no mayo, paid an extra $1.75 for lettuce and pickles. Finally got my $20 sandwich and was sorely disappointed. Not only did they get the order itself wrong, it was small and clearly cheap ingredients like Costco bread and what I suspect is canned chicken. The cashier lady who took my order was lively and kind, and the company's origin story is touching, but the product is expensive and sub-par at best. Hoping their usual operation is better.

Introduction: I love a good cheesesteak but it's very hard to find a legitimate cheesesteak that's made well. For a Philly cheesesteak to be legitimate, it has to have three main things: good meat(s), cheese whiz, and most importantly, the Amoroso roll. Philly Cheesesteak was invented in the 1930s originally by a hot dog vendor when he had the idea to start chopping up steaks and putting it on buns that were used to hold the hot dogs; the problem was the meat juice from the steak, the water from the onions, and other condiments caused the buns to become soggy and fall apart. Hence the hot dog vendor contacted the Amoroso Baking Company and the Amoroso Baking Company made a roll that was sturdy enough to contain all the cheesesteak's content. Food: Cheesesteak: At College Boy Cheesesteaks they offer four options: Associates, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate cheesesteaks. The higher the degrees, the more ingredients there are in the cheesesteaks. Since I've never been the studious type, I opted to only get a Bachelors. Everything tasted great except I wished they would have given me more cheese whiz for the cheesesteak; it was the only thing that was deficient with for my order. Prior to coming to College Boy, I usually get my Philly cheesesteak fix by going to Boo's Philly Cheesesteak in Silverlake. College Boy beats Boo's in the quality of the meat they use for their cheesesteaks; the beef is of superior quality and it tasted more savory in comparison to the beef Boo's uses for their cheesesteaks. Service: The proprietor and staff are cordial and polite Price: Reasonable Advice: I have College Boy on Facebook but to best track their schedule, follow them on Instagram; sometimes the schedule on Facebook tends to be slightly out of date.

DANG, so good. I wasn't even hungry, but wanted to grab something as I was leaving downtown Disney. Ended up eating the whole cheesesteak. I would've been sad on the last bite, but they're gonna be in downtown Disney till March, so I'm coming back! The people are SUPER nice! I got a doctorate and plain fries to take home. The fries were nicely packed up in a cup, covered, and the cheesesteak was tidily wrapped up. There was even a mint with the napkins. Appreciate it! Doctorate cheesesteak IS SO GOOD. Had pickles, peppers, SO MUCH CHEESESTEAK, mushrooms, and grilled onions. It may seem spendy, but it is HUGE and they do not skimp on cheesesteak. Fries were GBD - golden, brown, delicious! They season with black pepper, so the plain fries are tasty as-is. I'm gonna get the cheese fries next time. In the meantime, going to continue to reminisce on how tasty it was

I heard a sad story that the Boo's Philly Cheesesteaks Silver Lake location was shutting down (they currently had locations in Echo Park and Koreatown), so I felt I had to pay my last respects to a place I frequented when I first moved into the area over a decade ago. Like a Tommy's burger, I craved something horribly sloppy and bad for you in every possible way, and for a time this was my go-to especially since I was able to take a casual walk to it. I'm older now and not necessarily wiser, but my body just couldn't handle it as it once did. Founded by an immigrant South Korean family by way of New Jersey, they made their way to Los Angeles to try and fill a need for authentic real cheesesteaks that any Philadelphian would proudly say "legit". Would I boo their Philly-inspired cheesesteak efforts!? PURCHASE(S) Cheese Fries Large ($7.95): A decent portion size of golden crispy crunchy steaming spud sticks with a side of hot gooey Cheez Whiz, ideally you'd scatter out the fries and pour the cheese on top of them. I was lazy and simply dunked each one into the cheese. However, you ran into the issue of your cheese solidifying which made it harder to dip your fries into it. Lesson learned... https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=9sOf0rQzJW9CNmfKuc_Ujw Boo's Pepper Mushroom Cheesesteak w/Cheez Whiz Sandwich ($13.95): Served with thinly-sliced steak, grilled onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers, and your choice of cheese (of course I went with Cheez Wiz!) on an amoroso roll, this was a hot mess (in a good way!) of epic proportions. The sandwich was stuffed to the edges of dripping hot steaming ingredients that burned the inside of your mouth if you weren't careful. Everything basically congealed as it started to cool due to its exposure to the air. All of the flavors eventually melded together with the separate flavors present when you first started devouring it. This wasn't for the faint of heart, and you may regret having eaten this monstrosity when you woke up in the morning. It was worth it! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=iojHuknmyjcxgnClXJ6pyA SERVICE I approached the outside self-service order kiosk, placed my order, and in less than ten minutes a young gentleman appeared from inside with my order in hand as he called out my name. It was all quick and painless - thank you! PARKING (FREE): I luckily found a spot in their tiny lot (maybe six spots total). Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of parking along the main drag of Fountain Ave. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE In its latest incarnation since the pandemic, it had become only an order kiosk system and no more indoor dining. There was a communal wooden bench outside if you wanted to enjoy your meal. However, it wasn't very inviting, and you were up against a very busy, loud intersection. There was plenty of natural lighting since you were outdoors with only the electric street lights to help you at night. There were no TVs nor background music with the exception of the buzzing vehicle traffic. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=zqh3hCvkdUmGekZj-SBHTg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL In my homage to Silver Lake's Boo's Philly Cheesesteak location, they were a wonderful piece of the neighborhood, still one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philadelphia, and I always got my money's worth. The food wasn't healthy, but it did its job and tasted very good as it went down (coming out was a different story!). The prices were affordable and comparable, the portions were hefty, the menu selection was very limited, and the service was straightforward. .Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $24.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

They have a self order style counter where you buy and pay on a kiosk and then your order is made. I made it a combo and also ordered the hot lemon pepper wings. Wasn't mad about my food. It kept my tastebuds occupied for the England v France bronze game. The portions, for what I paid...I'll accept. The cheesesteak landscape in LA is still a small neighborhood. You got the mall chain, the imported-from-Philly chain (my fave), and the indie complex, where Jawny's and a handful of other developing entities reside. LA loves a good hot, chopped sandwich and businesses will continue to showcase their take on the east coast institution. Even fast service megas, like Jack in the Crack and Arby's, are making sure they can ride the cheesesteak wave. Did Jawny's keep up with my favorite? Not so much. Not with the classic. I'm not even sure what was so proprietary about the house made Wiz. And the overall value made the original steak feel like more of a hyped, boutique version of the cheesteak. It just wasn't substance-forward. But this restaurant will technically be more accessible than the carwash pop-up was, and that counts in my hemisphere. To be honest, I see myself ordering their wings more often, as a closer alternative to Wingstop. Ultimately, Jawny's is middle of the road for me. Seems it'll be passible food that I can stand to pay for some of the time. But congratulations on a place to call your own, y'all! That much, for sure, deserves a salute.

As I'm writing this, it's 11:39 PM, which is honestly the perfect time for one of these sandwiches--and look at that, they're open. That's kind of the point. This place shines late. A lot of the reviews that drag the rating down are straight-up delivery problems, not food problems. You're already paying more than a classic NYC bodega chopped cheese (which should be like $9), then you tack on delivery fees, then your DoorDash driver stacks orders, and by the time it gets to you... you're mad. And instead of being mad at the situation, people take it out on the restaurant. That's not on them. Here's a practical reason your tots aren't crunchy when you order delivery: the containers don't have ventilation holes. Steam builds up. Soft tots are inevitable. Either they start punching holes in every box, or you accept your fate ‍. This is another reason to eat it fresh. Inside, it's simple--walk up, order, wait. It looks like a bodega, just about ten dollars more. But if you're there in person, there's actual customer service. You can shoot the shit while your food's being made, get it hot, and eat it the way it's supposed to be eaten. Every time I've had this food the right way, I've either ordered in person or picked it up immediately. Do that, especially late at night, and this place absolutely delivers.

We came to Matū for the Dinner for Two, and everything we were served was impeccable. The seasoning was spot on, the salt level was perfect, and every cut of meat was cooked beautifully. I'm a big fan of my steak on the rarer side, and Matū absolutely delivered. The braised beef cheek was probably the highlight of the night for me. It was unbelievably tender, rich, and one of the most memorable bites of the meal. After finishing the Dinner for Two, which really showcased the quality of the meat, we decided to split a cheesesteak since "that's what they're known for." When it arrived, it looked incredible. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended for me. The meat tasted oddly oily. I'm not sure if it was the cut, the preparation, or even the cheese, but it came across as heavy and greasy compared to the beautifully simple, clean flavors of the steak dinner. It was also underseasoned, and I found myself tasting the sesame seeds on the bread more than the filling itself. The chips were fresh and crunchy at first, but they lost their texture surprisingly quickly, so eat those immediately. Overall, I absolutely loved the steaks, sides, and cocktails, and I'll happily be back for those. But as for the cheesesteak? Once was more than enough.

Matu is a dream for meat lovers, with a menu centred entirely around Australian wagyu. Nothing…read moreshowcases that commitment better than the Matu dinner ($87 per person; minimum 2 persons), a multi-course meal that highlights different cuts of the cow in every single dish. Things begin with a 24-hour bone broth shooter, looking like a glass of gravy but tasting like concentrated umami. Rich, warm, and deeply comforting, it's remarkable how delicious it is despite containing only broth. The steak tartare follows with freshly chopped beef, egg yolk, and what the menu describes as a "Japanese accent," possibly togarashi. Whatever the seasoning blend is, it works beautifully. The tartare is incredibly flavourful despite its minimalist presentation. Thin, lightly toasted crostini accompany it without overpowering the beef, though I did ask for extra slices just to finish every bite. The eight-hour braised beef cheek was one of my favourite courses. So tender and moist that you could practically eat it with a spoon, the richness is balanced by a silky celeriac purée that ties everything together beautifully. It's the kind of dish that immediately makes you want another serving. Even their '47' salad leans heavily into the restaurant's beef-first philosophy, featuring more steak than greens. The 3-ounce centre-cut filet was impressively tender for such a lean cut, and although it arrived rarer than I'd typically order, it worked perfectly. At Matu, diners aren't asked how they'd like their steak cooked. The kitchen prepares it to the chef's specifications, trusting the quality of the beef and their technique. As for the romaine leaves underneath, they're coated in a signature dressing that tastes remarkably similar to Caesar, despite being made without dairy or eggs, then finished with a generous showering of Parmigiano. After all that beef, you'd think sharing a 12-ounce ribeye would feel excessive. Somehow, it didn't. The steak is prepared simply, allowing the quality of the wagyu to speak for itself, with crispy grilled broccolini providing a garlicky contrast alongside it. A small dish of salt is presented at the beginning of the meal, though Matu intentionally keeps the seasoning restrained. Personally, I appreciated the lighter touch and never felt the need to add more. Dessert arrives in the form of Scott's flourless chocolate cake ($12), dense and rich without being overly sweet beyond a dusting of powdered sugar. After an entire menu devoted to beef, I almost found myself jokingly wondering whether wagyu somehow made its way into dessert too.

I've been a frequent flyer of Boo's (since I'm over in Ktown) and also quite a few orders over the years from South Philly Experience and twice from Matu (but that's a major treat and honestly way overpriced). All of these have their own great bits about them and I love all these spots. This isn't going to be a "who's better than who" since each is different in their own right and hits the spot different ways. I got the sweet pepper steak on seeded roll with of course, Cooper's! Then I got a classic Italian hoagie (with Cooper's) loaded up double meat/cheese. Biiiiig bonus using Boar's Head meats too, top shelf stuff. The fact that they're using Cooper's is a major plus and can get a seeded roll is such a nice touch. I do love a classic Amoroso, but seeded with the cheesesteak and Cooper's gives Matu a run for its money (and saves my wallet). Of course the meat quality is very different due to Matu using Wagyu but let's be real, that's really what you're paying for there. It's a nice treat but not an every other day get your money's worth. I feel I've found my favourite cheesesteak now though! The roll is super fluffy and crunchy where it needs to be. That thing was swaddled like a cared for newborn when it arrived and still hot from Melrose. Absolute 9/10 for me. The Italian was properly loaded and as I sit here enjoying it, a nice zingy break between cheesesteak bites as I split them half and half for lunch. For speed I love some Boo's, for the grill char taste I love some South Philly Experience but overall for my favourite spot now, it's Philly's Best off Melrose. Matu again is a great quality cut treat but the wait, the cost and the amount you get is not really worth it. Will absolutely be ordering from this place again in the future!!

I placed my order through their website, everything showed that their business is OPEN and running, nothing wrong. I arrive to 358 W 38th St and realize it's a food hub (multiple restaurants in one location) I call the restaurant to confirm my order and pick up time and the disrespectful service was what really made me write this review. He answers and says that the restaurant is CLOSED DOWN. The kitchen is not open and he cannot help me by explaining if there is an alternative location which I can pick up my food, goes ahead and says by good faith he will give me a refund and he hangs up. I attempted to try to see if anyone was here, the place is EMPTY. I rang the ring bell camera, no answer. I called back just to have the same person hang up on me 4 more times without taking the time to ask for my information to issue a refund, HE WAS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I clearly heard him taking an order while he was on the phone with me (he had me hold as soon as he answered) so why the unprofessional service? THIS IS A SCAM. There were more people in the parking lot trying to figure out how to get their food. This company should be ashamed of themselves for pretending to be in business and taking peoples money when they cannot provide a service. TO ALL ANGELENOS AND EVERYONE IN THE AREA MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU ORDER THROUGH ANY WEBSITE OR SERVICE YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND DISAPPOINTMENT.

I was worried that it was too many sandwiches on such short notice. I hesitated but ordered anyways and hoped for the best. I can't comment on the location but it's not too far from my building. On to the food! I ordered the Famous Figueroa Philly with cheese whiz. Although the sandwich was soggy, you have to understand that this is a hefty sandwich, plus it did travel 15 minutes to me. It was filled with a good amount of meat. I could used more peppers and onions but I could only eat half the sandwich. It was delicious with the cheese whiz. This is not your mall sandwich. The food was hot the fries were crispy and had fresh garlic. The food was absolutely delicious! It was so worth taking the chance. I called after I placed the order to ask for jalapenos because my boss wanted them. They did not skimp on them or ketchup or buffalo sauce or napkins....YOU WILL NEED NAPKINS. This is a juicy sandwich. I'll take a picture of the entire order. I let him know that it was a big order and that if it did take longer we would understand. I placed the order at 10:40 and it came at exactly the time stated on Postmates. 11:45. That is awesome! Icing on the cake...I noted names on each sandwich order and they actually wrote them on there....some places would've just let us guess.... Thank you! Overall this is a place you need to try.

The décor has a cool club/bar vibe that fits the late-night atmosphere. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, and it was pretty good. The meat was tender, the ratio of cheese to onions was just right, and everything worked well together. But the real star of the sandwich was the bread. It was soft, pillowy, and had the perfect amount of chew, bringing the whole sandwich together. My wife ordered the Chili Cheese Fries, but she wasn't a fan. Her exact words were, "Meh." She felt the chili lacked the depth of flavor she was hoping for. If you're in the Hollywood area looking for a late-night bite, I'd recommend checking them out. They have a large selection of creative and over the top sandwiches, so there's a good chance you'll find something to please your cravings.
