I loove com tam so I had to check this place out! The menu is very straightforward and easy to order from. Look at how huge these menus are and the font size! It was perfect for my grandpa to easily read everything. Good prices and good com tam. They were pretty busy Saturday lunchtime with many people coming in and out for to go orders. This is a chill little place that has a modern cafe vibe. We were not greeted immediately but the lady at the register was nice to us when we got to the register inside. She offered us to sit anywhere and we were promptly given menus and also were able to order pretty easily. The place is pretty clean and it was dead when we got in but I noticed quite a few people coming in for food pick up. DRINK: Vietnamese Coffee: This was delicious! Great balance of coffee and milk! Not overly sweet, just right! FOOD: Soup: I'm not sure what it is called but it is a wonderful start to the meal. It is light, delicious, and refreshing. Com Tam (Broken Rice): Wow! First of all it was weird for me not eating Pho when I eat Vietnamese food, and this was AMAZING! The rice is cooked perfectly and the meats are also cooked very well. I got the chinese sausage, pork rib, and some other pork meat. The veggies are also a nice refreshing taste and texture to the meal! OVERALL: The food was great! This is a new meal for me so it feels life changing, but I don't think the idea is revolutionary. The service was not what you would expect in a sit down restaurant, but every interaction we had was great. There was just no order to the service. We got our meals first, then our drinks. They did not really check on us at all as well. I think that despite the service not being as great as I would have liked, the food pulls it through to a 4/5. read more

I love love love my Vietnamese food, and so we were really excited to try a new Com Tam spot. It was kind of hard to find this place in the plaza since there's not much signage since they overtook the previous bar/restaurant Ace Club. Everything inside the restaurant still has decor from the previous business. So you get 3 items for $13, I'd say that's a pretty good price given the amount of food we got. Lets get to what we ordered: Com Suon Nuong, Cha Trung, Trung - (3.5/5) The slice of my suon nuong was really thin and I felt like the meat was too dry. In regards to flavor, it was good. Just disappointed in the thin piece of meat. Cha Trung was good, and I should have swapped the egg for something else. Make sure you also get extra green onions with the crispy fatty pork rind-ish thing. Lol adds more flavor to your meal. Com Thit Nuong, Tau Hu Ky, Cha Trung - (5/5) I'd 100% recommend Thit Nuong over the Suon Nuong any day. It was more juicy and meaty and flavorful. Tau Hu Ky was nice and crispy. We also ordered (4) more orders to go. My only issue was when we got home, the green onions topped on the rice started to smell sour only after a couple hours and we ended up throwing out the green onions. I'd order that on the side, if you're ordering to go. Enjoy! read more

Amazing local spot with food you just can't go wrong with. This is my first introduction to Vietnamese food outside of pho and it's honestly really good and I can't wait to try more! Flavors are somewhat familiar but still unique and different from what I'm used to and that's exciting. If you're ever in the area it's a must try. Parking might be difficult on a weekend as it shares parking a lot of other stores. read more

Here's how my visit looks like: - Ambiance: The place is still messy, i couldn't smell the food but only cleaning solution which the same smell I smell at the vet and it completely made me lose appetite. I took a glimpse at the kitchen and oh dear, the floor is dirty. - Service: There's only 1 waitress at the moment and she didn't seem so welcoming. Check-in for free soda but when I asked for diet Coke, she was shocked and make me shocked too lol. Because they only have Sprite for "soda". They don't accept card, only cash and Zelle - Food: The food is average but overall what I've observed and smelled, it just doesn't feel clean to me. $13 for the amount of food is good but I am not comfortable eating it with the cleaning solution plus how dirty the kitchen looks. Clean and nice interior with fast and friendly staff. The thit nuong is good. The suon nuong, some were good, some were very sweet. They were not consistent. I did not expect the sweetness from Vietnamese com tam suon really. It's like Korean bbq rib sweet. Bi was very soggy. Nuoc mam was thick, might be a little strong for non-Asian customers. I like the idea that the fish sauce is already at the table and you just pour out the amount you need. The egg meatloaf tasted alright, sort of bland by itself, but tasted good with the fish sauce. Their meat was well seasoned to my liking, and the tofu meat was somewhat dried and very thin. Overall, this place is ok to eat nothing really stand out. My favorite broken rice spot. I've been here a few times and the food is consistently good a great deal. You can pick up to 3 sides and they allow you to pick multiple of the same sides. I had some difficulty getting to this place because I thought it was located inside the Korean Plaza but it is actually located inside a business called "ACE BEER CLUB." I ordered Com Tam and really enjoyed that we can customize our plate. The food is really delicious and at such a good price!! The service is good but I definitely thought the inside was a bit odd, most likely due to the fact it's a bar so the seating is not your typical sit down restaurant and it smelled strongly of cleaning agent. If you could get take out, I think that would be the best option unless you're not too bothered by the environment. Personally, it was too off putting for me to come here again for a sit down but they definitely have some good Com Tam. I will probably order take out in the future! read more

Better than any location I've been! I love the concept of the menu! You pick three and it's only $13! Not too shabby! The grilled pork chop was juicy and tender. The shredded pork skin was fresh and warm. The fried egg, with its golden yolk, adds a creamy richness that ties the dish together also. Food was decent, not the best I've had but i'll give it a 7/10. Disappointed that the fried tofu skin wrapped shrimp patty wasn't crispy at all. The rest of the food was good, pork chop was a little sweeter than I like. Service was horrible though. They took forever to give us our beverages and never came to check up on us so I had to bring our cups to their desk for refills in which the waitress gave me a weird look. And they left a lid not closed and it spilled on me! Broken rice was delicious. I had the grilled shrimp on sugar cane, pork ribs as side accompaniments & egg and my hubby had the bbq pork, bbq pork ribs and egg. I liked my hubby's bbq pork meat because it was fatty and full of flavor. The restaurant is inside "Ace Beer Club" and is a no frills establishment. For only $13 per entree, we had a great meal. One thing I didn't like was the design of the tables. They were surrounded by metal feet that didn't allow you to scoot your chair closer to the table. Thus, not very kids friendly. read more

For ingredients, it also includes a plate with slices of pineapple, quarter cut fresh tomato slices, fresh bean sprouts, rice noodles, and a full plate of large pieces of Chilean Sea Bass. Just put all the ingredients in the hot pot and let it cook for 5-10mins on high, I promise you it is one of the best soups you will ever have! Service is good as always. This place always seems to be busy, so you may have to be on the waitlist during certain business hours (eg holidays, prime dinner time, etc). Be prepared: this place is incredibly popular, especially during peak hours. Parking can definitely be challenging because of how busy it is. The last time I visited on a Monday, the lot was completely full, and I ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is also primarily cash only, so come prepared. They open early, making it a perfect breakfast spot for an early bowl of pho. The pho broth is exactly what I want when I'm craving comfort food--clean, flavorful, and incredibly soothing. However, the star of the meal for me was the chả giò. Wow. Although they arrived after our pho, they came out at the perfect temperature. I was hesitant to take a bite right away because freshly fried food usually burns my mouth, but these were just right. Crispy, airy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Paired with their fish sauce, it was perfection. I enjoyed the egg rolls so much that next time I'm definitely ordering the egg roll vermicelli bowl. Service was friendly and prompt despite how busy it was, and it's clear the staff works hard to keep things moving. One thing I love is seeing all of the awards and accolades displayed on the walls. Phở 79 received the prestigious James Beard America's Classics Award, and it's easy to understand why after one meal here. This restaurant is truly an Orange County icon. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location, as signs throughout the restaurant announce the upcoming move. While I'll miss the original spot, I'm excited for the new space--hopefully with more parking! Some places are worth the wait, and Phở 79 is absolutely one of them.
