We were looking for some late night food options. This spot closed at midnight which was great! We came around 8 or 9 pm. The person taking our order told us there's a deal, buy 3 soups (or banh mi) and get 1 free. Luckily 4 people wanted to order soups. However! They were running out of normal noodles and our pho noodles were thick/flat. Even in the vermicelli bowl. I got a pho dac biet and the broth was great on its own. So flavorful without being too salty! The only thing I didn't like was the noodles that came with it. I also got one order of spring rolls. Their rolls don't include mint so if you have a picky eater or a mint-hater, this is a good one. The sauce is also pretty good. I recently had peanut sauce from another pho restaurant and I didn't enjoy it because it tasted like it was just plain peanuts. I'm not sure what you put in peanut sauce but I like it to be also savory. Their menu is on the smaller side but it definitely didn't disappoint! I used to go to this Com Tam place place in Milpitas but closed down. Close to Main Street by a Quality Tine Up. Message me and let me know where the owners went so I can hunt them down. So I started coming here since my go to didn't warn me about their closure. Back to the review: I must admit Com Tam Thanh is one of my favorite restaurants in Fremont. I am a fan of the rice plates for sure from Chicken or Grilled pork are my top dishes. I don't get the pho or any of their soups except when I'm sick and need the pho broth to help me heal. I also love the shrimp cake, shredded dried pork skin, steamed egg meatloaf, picked carrots/jicama and more! Add some fish sauce and call it a day! read more

My husband and I have been living in Newark for about 5ish years now and for some reason we have just recently came here. We drive by it all the time and we always say we are going to go. We finally came here and are so glad we did. For some silly reason we ended up ordering the Bun Bo Hue instead of any of the com tam dishes. The BBH was really yummy and not too salty like most places. It had deep beefy flavor, lots of meat, and lots of fresh herbs. Just the way I like it. The staff there is friendly, quick, and helpful. I am always skeptical of any Vietnamese restaurants in Fremont, but we found absolutely no faults during our maiden visit here. We walked in around 2 pm on Tuesday and found only 1 other party of diners, ah oh. There was a gentleman there who's probably the manager/owner, he did everything from filling water to taking our orders and serving our food. This is a family restaurant chain (3 locations) and it's very informal, I have never eaten in the other 2 locations but a reliable source informed me the branch next to the Santa Clara VMC is always hopping. We ordered a bowl of Pho and a broken rice combo plate and loved it. #10 Pho TAI (pho with rare beef; $10.75): we liked the broth, good flavor while not overly salty and def no/less MSG than most generic pho establishments. Beef was adequately tender. #25 Broken rice with shredded pork + pork cake + shrimp cake + grilled pork (or other meats), $13.45. The steamed pork cake was one of the better versions I have had: good flavor, fluffy and light. Vietnamese shrimp cakes tend to be very oily and here was no exception. On the other hand they packed significantly more shrimp in here than its competitions, also the shrimp had a good crunchy texture which indicating its freshness. Ambiance: quite spacious and clean as far as I can see, it can easily host banquets or accommodate large Karaoke parties. Stopped in here today with two friends for a quick lunch. There were a good amount of vegan options (for me) and the standard selection of Vietnamese soup noodles, vermicelli, rice plates etc for everyone else. I ordered the veggie noodle soup which was pretty standard. There was a good amount of vegetables included but sadly only one small cube of tofu (see photo). My two friends ordered the bun hue and were satisfied. Spice level could have been hotter, the meat was decent (according to them). One of them asked for the raw meat on the side, which he got; the other asked for extra beef balls, which after some awkward miscommunication with one server, another server ended up bringing out what was ordered. All parties were content with the food. A short while later, one of the employees (possibly an owner) came by our table with a pen and paper, asking my friend to repeat his request. He had wanted to know what was misinterpreted so he could have it written down to "study" for later. Of course we were on board with that! Talk about making the effort to improve customer service! It can be a bit challenging dining at a place where we don't speak the same language, but I thought that extra effort was really something! As for the food, we had also ordered fried veggie egg rolls, Thai iced tea and #50 che. The egg rolls were pretty generous and came cut in half as requested and tasted great. They also came with a side of pickled daikon and carrots which was nice. The Thai iced tea was pretty standard and the #50 che was just sweet and not that fresh. I think I'll stick to picking up those types of drinks from Bamboo or other che spots in SJ. Less pricy, more fixins, and definitely way more fresh! All in all our experience here was okay. I wouldn't say this would be a place to crave, but the service was nice and fast, food decent, prices "ok". Plus, it's really spacious so there is tons of space for social distancing if you were to dine in. This wouldn't be my first pick for pho, but you be the judge. We had ONE pork cake to share, ONE plate of shredded pork to share, ONE fried shrimp cake to share. Mind you, we bothe ordered one plate each. So why are we sharing ONE when we should have one each. Time to pay. The owner sees us walking to the counter to pay but walks away and makes us wait another 10 minutes. There are two major reasons why my husband and I will not return to this restaurant. 1. When we entered, we waited for minutes to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant. Once seated, we waited for another ten minutes before anyone came to our table. Once the waiter finally contacted us, he stood there without saying anything to us, and just looked at me. I didn't what was going on, so I ordered my item. After I placed my order, he just walked away without asking my husband what he wanted. Before he got too far away, I asked him if we could order one more item for my husband; the waiter walked back over to our table and took my husband's order with an extreme look of annoyance on his face. I don't know what the hell we did wrong here. After we finished our meal, my husband requested a to-go container for my sandwich, in which the same employee handed him a paper bag and said, "just wrap it up." Needless to say, my sandwich didn't fit but we were done with this experience at this point. 2. Pho broth was watered down, and warm at best. The protein portion was skimpy in the banh mi sandwich. The staff is attentive if you dine in and the restaurant is really spacious. My family loves their smoothies too! I like that this location is right near the freeway. Plus they are open late! The size of the bowel is still the same but the meat and pho you get is much smaller now. It's too bad, it's not like before now. Almost everything I have tried on the menu has never disappointed us! Vegetarian Pho with fried Tofu is very flavorful and filling. Tofu spring rolls are so fresh and tasty.
