The turkey pesto is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. All the ingredients tasted so fresh including the English muffin! I got the maple ginger latte but I felt that it was too milky and flavor wasn't very strong but could be because I got it 50% sweet. The shop is very cute ! My friends and I came here for our coffee fix and were pretty disappointed with our drinks. We got the sweet mint cold brew (OK), lavender honey latte (OK), and the earl gray blueberry latte (meh). The earl gray blueberry latte had an overwhelming blueberry taste. I waited almost 30 minutes for my drinks until I checked on them at the counter and found out they didn't even have my order in their queue. The workers quickly made my drinks and apologized for it, but it was still annoying to be waiting that long only to find out that I would've waited forever if I didn't say anything. The workers were pretty busy chatting away and it gave me a bad taste. Besides the drinks, the ambiance here is great and the decor was beautiful and super aesthetic. It was pretty busy so the majority of the tables were taken. This place is also dog friendly and has some outdoor seating, but I think there could be more seats and more shade. We went to this cute cafe that also has a plant nursery attached to it in North Park. We had been here before but only got beverages before we bought my daughter's cactus she named Asher. Asher was in need of a larger pot so we decided to have breakfast as well. The cafe has items for sale that include cook books, jewellery, stickers, pins, and greeting cards. They all match the motif and enhance the experience. The place was a bit busy and we noticed lots of people on laptops, presumably working remotely consequently there were lots of single people sitting at tables individually making tables a bit scarce. We ordered our food and hoped for the best that someone would leave so that we could sit down and eat it. The drinks came out first and we held on to our table order number stand as we looked around for a table to become available. There were others in the same predicament so we knew we had to be on guard to catch the first table that became available so we spread out and thankfully this strategy worked. We got a corner table with a good view of the cafe as well as the neighbourhood outside. The drinks were very good and it was clear they took great care and preparing them. My daughter is very picky but her iced matcha with oat milk came out perfect to her liking. She was curious about my latte flight so she had a taste. In her opinion the vanilla latte didn't have a distinct flavour but the lavender latte did and she preferred it. I agreed with her and probably would stick with the lavender next time and try out one of the other flavours instead of selecting vanilla. The food arrived shortly and the presentation was very pleasing. Again, it was obvious they took great care in ensuring the food not only tasted good but that it was visually appealing as well. My daughter again loved her selection and ate it all up, contrary to most times when she leaves half behind. I really liked my frittata. The salad was fresh and the frittata was well seasoned, hot and just the right portion. Afterwards we went to explore the nursery and had lots of fun checking out the plants as well as the outdoor ambience. Dining al fresco would be a good idea as well on a sunny day but again all the outdoor tables were taken by people on their laptops. We found the planter we wanted and I even picked up some cute stickers for my flask and some pins. All in all a cute place for a meal. read more

This is a great coffee shop! The first time I came here I totally cut everyone in line and was SO embarrassed though. Just know before you go the line often wraps around outside to the left of the register. WHOOPS! Anyways- they also have online ordering. It's a great shop with lots of seating. They have bouquets and floral arrangements made in-house, clothing, books, candles, and other novelty items you can look at while you await your drink (this place is poppin' so def gave me something to do while I waited). Good level of sweetness that was not overwhelming with a natural mint flavor. They use oat milk and a house made mint syrup which is awesome! I was visiting San Diego for the day and popped into Communal Coffee to have some quick bites and beverages with a friend. Ordering was a breeze and the staff was both attentive and friendly. I loved the bar seating and wish there'd been an open spot. This particular location had a packed house, which was a great sign! The interior was incredibly spacious and well lit, with outlets all around and many spots where folks could sit at tables and get in some studying/work. There's additional seating on the patio as well. I ordered the smoked salmon bagel along with a black sesame latte. The bagel was fresh, had perfect proportions, and was delicious! The latte was pretty good as well, however, the taste of sesame was overridden by the espresso. I'll absolutely be coming back to this spot again to experience more items on the menu and to take in the ambience while I work. I placed an online order for their glass cup. I never got an email that said when my order was ready for pick up and which location it would be from. No biggie. So I get an email reminder telling me my order is ready. I reply and say I never got an email but no worries I'll drop by on Thursday at 12:30 pm. I arrive and all the workers looked so annoyed to see me? It was my first time there. I say I have an online order for the glass cup. The girl at the register told another girl who soooo very slowly took her time walking around the store as if we all have all the time in the world. She disappeared in the back for 5 minutes came back out and was looking around the entire store for my order. The order that I paid for 2 weeks ago and that they emailed me reminding me it's ready for pick up. The same order that I had said "I'll be there Thursday at 12:30 pm to pick up" so they already knew I'd be coming in. She eventually makes her way to the front of the store and gets the cup off the shelves and hands it to me and says "here you go." ??? I said "you're not even going to put it in a bag??" She again slowly walks to the back to wrap my order (that should've already been ready to go since I ordered 2 weeks ago and got an email reminder telling me to pick it up). She eventually gives it to me. So she gives me the nasty dirty sample cups at the front of the store that everyone touches and looks at and puts their nasty hands all over it. Luckily I didn't get a parking ticket I parked somewhere that I couldn't park. So I get home open the glass cup and there's some nasty shit on it. See attached picture. I like the toast sampler, it's pretty filling. Employees are nice but it's pretty busy in there almost every time I've gone. They get your order out pretty quickly! I like sitting in their outdoor area just because with how much foot traffic there is inside, it can feel hectic. Not a fan of the hot drinks only having small cups as an option. read more

Visited communal coffee during our visit to San Diego a few weeks ago and we loved Communal Coffee. Their menu is very broad, you will find something for everybody here. We ordered the matcha latte and the pastries and they were delicious. The matcha latte was made to perfection; not overly sweet; you can taste the quality of the matcha and milk that they use here. We also noticed that they sell flowers on the other side of the bar, which is pretty unique. If I lived in San Diego, I would definitely be buying some fresh flowers while getting my breakfast. It does get pretty crowded during the weekend, we were lucky enough to find a table inside, but they offer both outdoor and indoor seating. For parking, we ended up parking at the Smart and Final parking lot down the street. If you are in the San Diego area, highly recommend checking out Communal Coffee. You won't regret it! read more

I went to Communal's anniversary event and had a good experience. Staff were offering free birthday cookies to customers in line and there were free flowers as well. The indoor space is very aesthetic and includes lots of plants! There is a next door nursery as well. I tried their vanilla latte which was standard. The reason for my low review is due to a menu item being misspelled. As a Vietnamese person, I was dismayed to see Banh Mi spelled as "Bahn Mi". I understand that misspellings happen but the lack of detail and proofreading is really disappointing as this does not do justice to the origins of this menu item. If you are going to be offering cultural foods, please make sure to spell it right before printing your menus. I LOVE this place. Will definitely want to come back if I'm in the area again. I got the seasonal flavor- earl grey blueberry latte with almond milk. It was DELICIOUS. I can tell they have high quality coffee. The sweetness was just right. The blueberry reminded me of a blueberry waffle, & definitely got the earl grey tatse in too- 10/10 on the drink. Atmosphere: This coffee shop ranks at the top of my list as far as atmosphere goes. It's spacious, vibey, and there is tons of seating and natural light. This coffee shop also contains a flower shop, so for us creatives the aesthetic is about as good as it gets. There are several different sections of this coffee shop to choose from. There is a homey room with dark walls, a bright section with lots of tables and natural light, a fenced in outdoor patio, and then indoor seating close to the counter made of small tables. Additionally, the North Park location has a plant store right next-door, so it's pretty much the perfect recipe for a Saturday morning. Coffee and food: Great! I ordered an Chai Cinnamon morning bun and an iced latte and both were delicious. They also have some more savory options if you are needing more of a meal. Parking: There is free street parking nearby. People: The staff here does a good job. They are kind and welcoming even when it is super busy. Our baristas were helpful to make suggestions when it came to drinks, and we ended up getting the sweet mint cold brew and the latte flight (lavender honey and rose vanilla). They were all really light, flavorful, and easy to drink. We also ordered the aioli avocado bagel and the rosemary three-cheese melt. The lemon aioli and arugula was really refreshing on the bagel, and the cheese mixture in the melt was so good! Definitely recommend coming here! This came out to be $7 after tax for a small warm cup of coffee. The taste was rather bland and I hardly tasted any Earl grey. You could however smell the blueberry very evidently. The drinks here are great, I usually get matcha but the seasonal peppermint mocha is so good and not overly sweet or tasting like fake mint syrup. The menu includes alcoholic drinks as well as coffee drinks. The food is also quite good, I enjoy the smoked salmon bagel and the vegan egg frittata. The frittata sandwich is SO GOOD and doesn't taste vegan at all, even the vegan cheese on it tastes and melts like normal cheese. the sun dried tomato sauce on it is delicious. Beware that you will probably need napkins for both the vegan sandwich and the bagel. The lavender chocolate vegan donut is heavenly and I can't skip getting it even when I tell myself to resist the temptation! Drinks and food both come out relatively fast even when the place is busy. The ambience inside is super cute, I love the flowers and plants. They also sell cute Knickknacks, flowers, and cards. Unfortunately it is almost always packed and sometimes it's hard to find a seat. This is my new favorite cafe to study at in San Diego. What makes this place so amazing is the huge amount of seating inside (and there's also a large patio), quiet music, and lots of outlets. I also appreciated that the tables were large, so I could spread out my stuff. I got the iced smokeshow latte which was like a vanilla latte combined with chai flavors and an everything bagel with the herbed cream cheese which had fresh dill and chives. Definitely a step up from regular coffee shop food. This is a cute little gem of a coffee shop nestled within the backstreets of a neighborhood. The shop has a very open, airy, and sort of hippie vibe to it. We stopped by for a quick lunch on our way home from SD. There's seating inside and a few tables outside and in the back. I got an iced latte which was perfectly made and we grabbed their maple sausage muffin sandwich. The sandwich was sooo good! I asked for the maple butter on side , and was glad I did since I used it to spread over my daughters left over toasted bagel.
