This bbq was the best I have had in the valley. We got a half rack of ribs, the brisket, and pulled pork sandwiches. It all was delicious enough to eat without the sauce but the sauces were good too. As for the sides, we all split the beans, okra, coleslaw, fries, and mac and cheese. All of them were great. Usually there is one side a restaurant does well and the rest are meh... these were all as good as the next. You won't be disappointed if you eat here. Copper State BBQ is seriously one of the best BBQ spots we've found in Phoenix. Allie and I have already been back three times, and the brisket sandwich is a huge reason why. We get a hybrid of the ends and the moist brisket, and it's ridiculous -- smoky, tender, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a great BBQ sandwich. But somehow the fries might be just as addictive. The closest comparison I can make is Five Guys fries, except I genuinely think these are better. Derek, the chef/manager, makes this Southwest seasoning that takes them to another level. It gives everything that homemade, Southern BBQ flavor where you can tell somebody actually cares about what's coming out of the kitchen. The customer service has also been awesome every single time. Derek and the crew make the place feel welcoming instead of just being another restaurant you grab food from and leave. One small note: we tried the mac & cheese on our first visit and it was a little dry. If they can get that dialed in and a bit creamier, I genuinely don't have much else to critique. There are a lot of BBQ options around Phoenix, but Copper State has already become one of our favorites and belongs in the conversation with the best. If it's your first time, get the brisket sandwich, mix the ends with the moist brisket, get the Southwest-seasoned fries, and thank me later. I visited and ate at Copperstate this past weekend and was really impressed. I ordered the brisket sandwich "moist", with fries, and a sausage link. All were great. The crust on the brisket was crazy good. None of the flavors are overpowering on the meat, which allowed me to taste the actual meat which was outstanding. Definitely some great BBQ flavor, it just wasn't overpowering in a good way. I also tried the pulled pork, and although it was jus the tiniest bit on the dry side it was completely amazing. Now I do love BBQ sauce so after trying my brisket dry, I dumped the whole serving of "Spicy" BBQ sauce on my sandwich along with the pickled onion, sliced jalapenos, and fresh dill pickles, all which I believe were homemade on premises, the best I can tell. I would also guess the fries are hand cut, and they were outstanding. I also tried the Mac & Cheese, and this was the only mediocre thing I had. It was very standard, and with little taste. The gentleman that waited on us, I assume the owners as they prepared all the food, were so friendly. They definitely seem like good dudes and were very welcoming. The dining area is tiny, so if you have a large party there is only one large table in the dining area. For beverages, there was Coke products, and no beer or alcohol that I noticed. This is definitely a great BBQ place that I'll be returning to and I would recommend trying it out. read more

Delicious Arizona style BBQ with fresh made sides was a treat during our Phoenix trip. I appreciated the warm service and the ability to choose moist or dry cuts of brisket. The brisket was tender and juicy, and the sauces (original and sweet) were solid. I enjoyed the fried okra side but wish it had been served with a ranch style sauce - instead I dipped it in the original BBQ sauce which was an ok combo. My favorite BBQ spot closed about a year ago, and I've been searching for one that could fill the void... I finally found it. Derrick, the owner, is incredibly friendly and passionate, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the food and the people who walk through the door. We ordered the brisket sandwich, and I asked for the fatty brisket. They absolutely delivered. It was juicy, smoky, and packed with flavor--I devoured the whole thing in about three minutes. It seems that they are open earlier than ready, but not withstanding the wait for our food, it's a place we recommend and will return to. This was a former Dicky's, but the food is much improved. Don't miss the brisket and the fries. Sadly we didn't get to sample the burnt ends but I'm sure they will be great. Probably weekends only. The beans have a lot meat in them and were very good. The only miss for us was the tri tip but that's not something we usually try, so our opinion could be too critical. A friend of mine who's a bbq aficionado told me to try this spot out. Glad he did. Probably the best barbecue I've had since leaving Missouri almost 30 years ago! Tried pretty much everything on the menu and all are outstanding. My favorites are probably the brisket which is juicy with an amazing bark, the pulled pork and the ribs. The sides are all homemade and you can tell, bbq beans, and mac & cheese were my favorite, but all are definitely worth trying. Terrific homemade barbecue sauces, the standouts to me were the spicy (rattler) sauce and the copper state tangy mustard sauce. This place is amazing!! I've been on the hunt for good barbecue in Arizona ever since my long time favorite closed (rest in peace bryans black mountain). I'm happy to say that this place has done the trick! I haven't been this passionate about good barbecue for years since they closed and I honestly had given up, but finally I've found it. We came across this restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it out. We are so glad that we did. The food is so good and the chefs (Dereck & Alan) were super sweet! Service was top notch! So many people put 5 stars for mediocre food...this is not that. I rarely do reviews, but we were sooo impressed. It truly is some of the top food i have ever had. We got the sliders combo (today's special) potato salad, fried okra, beans, tri-tip and moist brisket. All 10/10. 100% The best okra we've ever had. With a nice thin breading that was fried in very fresh oil. The potato salad was not mushy at all. It was more of a thin mustard/vinegar base but not too acidic with fresh cut potatoes that were perfect firmness. So good. Beans great. Husband had tri-tip that he said was delicious. Brisket was great. The slider had a few barky pieces that were a little difficult to eat in the sandwich, but nothing that would keep me from ordering again. We did 50/50 sauce (half spicy/half sweet, and the spicy. There is the perfect amount of kick. This place is expensive, but i would say all BBQ is. Large portions that you can share. A person in the back washing pots. A helper to finish a plate and take payments. That's it. 3 people. I took brisket, ribs, pulled pork and a dab of sliced chicken breast. For six years, I attended a university in Louisiana. At the start and end of every school break I made a pilgrimage to a little hole-in-the-wall place outside of Tyler, Texas -- in case you don't know, that's *barbecue country*. TLDR: This is an amazing place, go try it. This is easily the best BBQ place I've ever been to. I was with a couple of coworkers and we each had a bite or two of brisket, pulled pork, and chicken and it was all delicious. The chicken was incredibly tender. Honestly the best bbq in Az that is straight up bbq. I got a little bit of everything - the pork, brisket, sausage, and chicken and genuinely couldn't find anything wrong with the meats at all and i'm very picky.
