Delicious Arizona style BBQ with fresh made sides was a treat during our Phoenix trip. I appreciated the warm service and the ability to choose moist or dry cuts of brisket. The brisket was tender and juicy, and the sauces (original and sweet) were solid. I enjoyed the fried okra side but wish it had been served with a ranch style sauce - instead I dipped it in the original BBQ sauce which was an ok combo. Adding corn bread, coleslaw or a dessert to the menu would be awesome, but overall enjoyed this local alternative to AZ's BBQ chains.

My favorite BBQ spot closed about a year ago, and I've been searching for one that could fill the void... I finally found it. Derrick, the owner, is incredibly friendly and passionate, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the food and the people who walk through the door. We ordered the brisket sandwich, and I asked for the fatty brisket. They absolutely delivered. It was juicy, smoky, and packed with flavor--I devoured the whole thing in about three minutes. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, and the beans were hands-down some of the best I've had. If you're looking for incredible BBQ, this place is 100% worth the visit. Can't wait to be a regular!!! Stop reading and go eat!!

First time having Arizona style bbq. The sliced brisket is tender and flavorful. Fried okra is perfect to pair with. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Nice spot to try when you're in town

The founder and owner, Dereck, is always here and takes great care of his customers. He has years of experience in the BBQ industry. They hand cut their fries, hand grind their brisket, and get their buns from a local baker. The interior is well decorated and gives the vibe of a classic southwestern smokehouse.

It seems that they are open earlier than ready, but not withstanding the wait for our food, it's a place we recommend and will return to. This was a former Dicky's, but the food is much improved. Don't miss the brisket and the fries. Sadly we didn't get to sample the burnt ends but I'm sure they will be great. Probably weekends only. The beans have a lot meat in them and were very good. The only miss for us was the tri tip but that's not something we usually try, so our opinion could be too critical. The place is small but it was clean and holds promise to be a real contender.

Amazing BBQ and the guys here are just good vibes! Came here for an early Father's Day meal with our baby and will definitely be back! Like any good bbq spot I recommend to stop by earlier in the afternoon/day before they sell out!

A friend of mine who's a bbq aficionado told me to try this spot out. Glad he did. Probably the best barbecue I've had since leaving Missouri almost 30 years ago! Tried pretty much everything on the menu and all are outstanding. My favorites are probably the brisket which is juicy with an amazing bark, the pulled pork and the ribs. The sides are all homemade and you can tell, bbq beans, and mac & cheese were my favorite, but all are definitely worth trying. Terrific homemade barbecue sauces, the standouts to me were the spicy (rattler) sauce and the copper state tangy mustard sauce. Super friendly owner, he created a family style platter for us, which the two of us barely got through half!

I've eaten bbq in Nebraska and Texas, not to mention all over Arizona. This is hands down the best barbecue I've ever had. The owner is incredibly nice, and the food speaks for itself. Get there before he sells out!!

If you're looking for incredible barbecue in Scottsdale, Copper State BBQ absolutely delivers. This was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. We tried the brisket, chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage, and every single meat was outstanding. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the ribs were perfectly cooked, the pulled pork was juicy, the chicken was moist, and the sausage had a great snap with excellent seasoning. It's rare to find a place where everything on the platter is this consistently good. The quality, flavor, and attention to detail really stand out. I'll definitely be back and would highly recommend Copper State BBQ to anyone craving authentic, top-notch barbecue.

The ribs and pulled pork are the best we've had. I'd put Copper State up against Texas - it was that good. The meat fell off the rib bones - so juicy. The baked beans had just the right amount of meat and spice. Highly recommend!!

This place is amazing!! I've been on the hunt for good barbecue in Arizona ever since my long time favorite closed (rest in peace bryans black mountain). I'm happy to say that this place has done the trick! I haven't been this passionate about good barbecue for years since they closed and I honestly had given up, but finally I've found it. The staff feel like a little family, and you can tell that everything is made in house. The sauces are what I think did it for me. The meat was cooked perfectly, everything was amazing, and then to top it off they have the perfect selection of sauces. Please do yourself a favor and check this place out !!

We brought family from out of town and had a party of 11 (six adults and five kids). There was a long wait, which we completely understood. We spent the time at the bar where the service was excellent, and the kids browsed the nearby shops. Unfortunately, once we were seated, the experience went downhill. Our server seemed to have little sense of urgency. Everything took an unusually long time, but the biggest issue was the food, which took well over an hour despite being a very simple order of burgers, sandwiches, and other basic menu items. Throughout the wait, we watched tables seated after us receive their food and leave while we were still waiting. The most frustrating part was the lack of communication. Rather than checking in or providing an update, our server was frequently visible chatting with coworkers and rolling silverware. When our food finally arrived, it was at best room temperature, making it seem like it had been sitting for quite a while before being brought to the table. We asked to speak with a manager, who said she would look into it, but never returned to follow up. That lack of acknowledgment or accountability was even more disappointing than the delay itself. We declined the offer of dessert because we needed to get the kids home, yet instead of bringing the check promptly, our server spent additional time clearing the table before finally processing our payment. As someone who has worked as a server, I understand that delays happen and kitchens get backed up. What makes the difference is communication, ownership, and making guests feel like their time matters. None of that happened here. It's unfortunate because we've had good experiences in the past, but this visit left us embarrassed that we chose this restaurant to host visiting family.

Would love a stronger PB&J flavor on this one. The inside is fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but I must say our server was fantastic. I had the brisket and pulled pork plate (I also wanted to try the ribs and sausage, but they were already sold out!). That gives you an idea of how popular they are. They also have outdoor seating with fans and mist to cool you off. I took my order back to the hotel. Let me tell you, the food is phenomenal. That brisket was so moist and perfectly seasoned...gosh it was so good! The pulled pork was fantastic as well. The potato salad was great and definitely made on-site, not from a bag. The host told us that there was open seating along the wall or under cover outside. Since the wall was full, we ventured outside near the cooler. We were given water right away but didn't even see a server, Jessica, for 12 mins. We even had to ask her for menus. It was a very awkward start. My wife ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon and a Caesar salad, plus wine while I got the 22 ounce Ribeye and a side of Poblano and PepperJack Grits, plus an iced tea. It all came to $137.11 plus tip. Our salad arrived in 8 minutes and our dinner 10 mins later. The salad was outstanding. Plenty of romaine, dressed with the right amount of dressing, 3-4 croutons and a mound of shaved Parmesan cheese. The salmon was really good, served with sautéed green beans and soy butter. My steak was cooked perfectly. It was seasoned well and the grits were incredible. They were creamy, with pronounced poblano and Jack cheese. It was the perfect accompaniment. Jessica did a great job checking in on us during our meal but, again, it was awkward waiting 15 mins for her to offer dessert and check. We will return but perhaps not during happy hour, when it's very busy but the evening staff hasn't arrived yet.
