Albacore Tuna Salad Sandwich and Tomato Mozzarella Sandwich
Airi G.

I do not recommend getting the sandwiches for the price point of $16. I got two halves: albacore tuna sandwich and tomato mozzarella. The albacore tuna sandwich was solid and the bread that it came with suited it very well. That said, it was a sad meal that I ate just to keep myself satiated. The only upside was the fruit salad since they were all really sweet.

Farmer's scrambler

This spot was good to try for their scramblers. The scrambled eggs were what you'd expect and the rest of the items taste like what you'd buy at the grocery store and make yourself. It's definitely a bit expensive for what it is. The chai latte is very sweet so if you don't like it too sweet I'd ask them to do less sugar. The staff is very nice and welcoming! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice spot for enjoying a quick breakfast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The Corner Bakery's All American Scramble. Look good? It wasn't.
Jeff B.

Let me state for the record: Worst. Breakfast. Ever. This morning I was running some early errands that took me past the Westfield UTC shopping center, so I decided to stop at the Corner Bakery for breakfast.I ordered the All-American Scramble -- scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, and toast. Nothing fancy, just a classic, straightforward breakfast. What arrived was exactly what it sounds like (see accompanying photo): a pile of scrambled eggs, a couple of scoops of potatoes, two strips of bacon, and a single slice of toast. Very ordinary in appearance. It was anything but ordinary in execution. The eggs were cold to lukewarm and clumpy. Cutting into them required real effort -- they had fused into a rubbery mass. The flavor could only be described bland (with hints of sour). The potatoes were cold and hard, almost as if they had never seen a pan (definitely not frozen, just...neglected). Then came the bacon. I've never had a more disappointing encounter with one of the world's greatest meats. We've all experienced crisp, burnt, soggy, or perfectly done bacon -- but I'm guessing very few people have ever tasted anything quite like this. The two strips had the flavor and texture of pressboard -- the sad, flimsy cousin of cardboard. It was a tragic excuse for a meat product. And finally, the toast. Who among us didn't start their culinary journey by making toast as a kid? Easy, right? Apparently the team at this Corner Bakery has yet to master the toaster's complex mysteries. For a place with "Bakery" in the name, they should at least get bread right. If you've ever heard stories of people in desperate times making bread from sawdust, you'll have a pretty good idea of what this tasted like. (To be fair, I'm sure sawdust bread would have more flavor.) For context, I've worked in food service and hospitality, including a serious stint on breakfast shifts. When you know what you're doing, a solid plate of bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast is not hard to execute. When you're not paying attention--or simply don't care about the guest--it's surprisingly easy to ruin. Honestly, I felt embarrassed for the team at this Corner Bakery.

Grilled cheese sandwich
S M.

I had tomato basil soup, and it was literally the worst I've ever had. I think they just opened a can of crushed tomatoes and poured it into the bowl. As for the grilled cheese sandwich, the picture is self-explanatory.... I'll never go back. Sorry! [[HIGHLIGHT]]BTW, service and ambiance was good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Coffee was exceptionally fresh and professional barista.

Mac n cheese

First time to this location on a pretty busy Saturday afternoon, the staff were all plesant and working quickly to keep the line down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of seating inside and a patio wrapping around the outside as well, so even if they're busy they've got the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Order: Choose two - half club (oven-roasted turkey, bacon, cheddar, tomato, mayonnaise, grilled sourdough) & mac n cheese, comes with a side of your choice chips/fruit/bread, I took the chips (bag of plain lays). Sandwich came hot, grill crispy, melted cheese and satisfying. The mac n cheese was good too, cavatappi noodles covered in cheese and breadcrumbs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A nice finish to a perfect weather Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We stopped by this morning since we hadn't had breakfast yet, and the photos of the food looked too good to pass up. Service was quick, staff was super friendly, and the food itself was tasty. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the espresso I was expecting a small strong shot but ended up with a big cup of some sweet coffee drink instead. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Other than that, the place is really nice, quiet, and worth checking out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Power Breakfast Egg Bowl with bread to go!

I wasn't too impressed with the service here even it being my first visit to this location. The server basically had an attitude even though she was in the wrong. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved though that this location has spacious space for you to eat inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was great as expected, but that was about it. Please have better service and your customers will leave better satisfactory reviews especially this being in LaJolla.

3.5 My father wanted to walk around the mall but he got a little cold so we stopped by to get some soup and drinks. For our beverages we tried their featured drinks.. Dragon fruit lemonade and dragon fruit ice tea. I liked the tea version better because it wasn't overly sweet like the lemonade. We ordered the Chicken Orzo Soup with bread. It wasn't as hot as I would have liked it but it still was yummy. The piece of bread was plain from a baguette and it wasn't toasted or anything. That was disappointing. Anyway, it's a convenient restaurant at the UTC Mall.

What is offered for sweet items.

This review is for visitors of patients dining in the Colors Cafe on Floor 1 (not for admitted…read morepatients). I had to be in Scripps Green for 3 weeks so I have experienced this cafeteria at all times of the day 7 days a week. As a smaller hospital I can understand the smaller cafeteria. However the options and availability of the food is pretty limited. While the food is fair with few hot dish items the salad bar is decent. The hot dishes consist of pizza, burgers, melts, soups, chicken tenders and then some featured main dish which always looks like it's over cooked sitting in liquid to keep it warm in the trays. Pretty much every day they have chicken teriyaki and rice for some reason. The best meals I have had from this cafeteria have by far been the breakfast. You can't really mess up bacon, eggs and pancakes I guess. Although go ahead and skip the french toast, as it is way over fried and crispy. They have pre made sandwiches and salads in the refrigerator cases. Bottles beverages, fountain drinks, coffee, ice cream, chips, cookies and more small sweets. They generally charge by weight for self serve buffett style hot dishes and salads. They really nickel and dime you on some things like charging for butter, ice and creamer. Other packaged items are scanned with a retail price. The staff is hit and miss. Some are nice and friendly while others are just slapping food around the griddle. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Outside is so nice with the views of Torrey Pines Golf Course and the ocean in the distance. Here's the main gripe. They barely have any options and they don't have keep the menu available for the entire time they are open. On weekdays they say they close at 8pm but stop cooking at 7pm. So nothing is replenished after 7pm. If you go down at 7:30pm you get what ever is left over. And that can be just a slice of pizza or a leftover burger wrapped in plastic. On this weekend they close at 6:30pm and they were dumping the food trays at 5pm!! A whole hour and a half before the posted closing time. All that is left was chicken tender and a picked thru salad bar. The only real option was packaged sandwiches from the fridge. Not fresh food. I find this very disappointing being at a hospital where you would think they would be promoting healthy options. Also twice they have locked us out on the patio dining area, without warning. They locked the doors from the inside while we were eating outside a half hour before closing time. They would have seen us out there eating but still locked it. We had to walk all the way around the hospital to get back inside. They simply could have opened the door and said we are closing this section up early or something. Completely ride and inconsiderate. The location of Scripps Green offers no other options in walking distance so you are basically stuck with the cafeteria as your only option. There is a Hilton if you trek down the street a ways. They really need to broaden the menu and keep it available for patrons ALL THE WAY TILL CLOSING TIME. People are already under stress when visiting here, is it too much to ask to have food available when you're "open".

There's almost always a good mix of people working inside or out on the patio, giving the space a productive but comfortable energy without feeling overcrowded. My go-to is the Iced Vanilla Latte, which is always smooth, well-balanced, and never overly sweet. I was expecting it to be ridiculously sweet based off it looking like a tres leches but I was pleasantly surprised at how balanced the sugar was with the spices. Hopefully if I come back I'll get to try their coffee/other milk cakes!
