Wow... this place is good! It looks like an old rundown type of place from the road, but for bbq and burger joints, that's typically a good sign. I have two pet peeves when it comes to burger joints: greasy buns, and fishy-tasting fries. Unfortunately, Country Burger makes a burger so greasy that the grease will have seeped through the buns by the time you finish unwrapping your burger, and your fingers will be covered in fat by the time you're done eating it. Grease aside, the patty was flavorless on its own, and Country Burger's hickory sauce tastes more like ketchup than anything else. If you want a decent hickory sauce burger, go to Del's or Goff's. The fries didn't have a fishy taste, but they were overcooked, bland, occasionally soggy, and just plain uninviting. The previous time I ate at Country Burger, I got onion rings instead. Though generously sized and a clear winner over the fries, they were drenched in oil just like the burgers. The only positive for me was the location--the rustic, country-style building is a great match for this restaurant. Really good burgers at fair prices. The fries were thin and good. No drive thru, but the order was fast. You sit down at your table and they call your name out when it's ready. I've been there twice and both times the food was really good. They give it to you in a brown paper bag, that the regulars will show you how to tear apart and use as your tray. Just got through eating a juicy cheeseburger with fresh fries! This place is always great. I ordered by phone for pickup. By the time I got there, it was ready to go! Every time I go in there it is always full of people there. They are constantly busy. Service is quick. I have been coming to this location since I was able to drive. I would cut class for an extended lunch here. I have fond memories of this place. In the many years I've been coming here, not once have I ever had a bad burger or fries. This was my second, and most likely my last attempt at Country Burger. 1) No Free Wi-Fi. 2) I ordered the chicken fried chicken. The gravy was powder mix (not fresh) and extremely bland. The 2 small chicken patties tasted frozen, not fresh and had zero taste. Had to put ketchup on it just to get any flavor. The best thing about the meal was the french fries, which were NOT hot when I got my plate. My wife ordered the basic cheeseburger and onion rings. The onions on the burger were overpowering and the burger was just palatable. Honestly, Whataburger is a better burger and a much better value. My reviews are usually a tad bit lengthy but this one will be relatively short. STORE: Family friendly with lots of things to look at on the walls. Clean and bright. 10/10 PRICES: The burgers are a tad bit pricier than McDonald's but for the extra buck or two it's worth it. However, anything that's not a burger is somewhat expensive. Nothing fancy at Country Burger and that's okay. There are enough places selling $10+ burgers these days. I prefer to eat at places that understand that burgers were never meant to be served at dinner. They're supposed to be served for lunch. I was somewhat surprised to see their basic burger combo (single burger, small fries, and drink) priced at nearly $9, but I wasn't very hungry so I skipped the fries. The burger is exactly what I think of as an old-fashioned Texas burger. A thin single patty in a large bun with lots of lettuce, lots of pickles, two slices of tomato, and yellow mustard. The mustard must be a Texas thing. I normally avoid yellow mustard but it just seems right on a burger when I'm in the mood for it. Service was fast and friendly. The original location and it shows. Good kids menu and nice burger alternative options like BLT and Grilled Cheese Deluxe (with bacon and tomato). No-bun options for low-carb dieters. I give this hometown favorite a try every couple of years and come away each time no longer hungry but with no real "wow" factor to remember it by. Honestly, I didn't even get to try the food, because no one greeted us or let us know they were closing until after having been there for a good 10 minutes when we finally walked up to the counter and they said, "Oh, we're closed." I went searching for a greasy burger joint and found this place online. Thought I'd try it out (never been before). The meat was cooked well but it had a funny taste to it, not sure what that was about. I'm guessing either cheap beef or chemicals from cleaning the griddle. There was absolutely no seasoning on the patty and the lettuce was old and nasty. The bun was good and soft, the fries were just okay, and the Dr.Pepper mix was off so the fountain drink was pretty gross. Also, I tried to order ahead but their website is down. I love country burger. When it's burger night, I head here. They have been around forever, and I am afraid I can't tell you about anything other than what I have been ordering forever. So the bbq sauce burger with bacon and cheese is incredible; its so good I haven't eaten anything else here for nigh on a decade. Alongside the burger, rather than fries I order the fried green beans. They are so tasty, lightly breaded and fried to perfection, with a nice snap from the green bean. Dipped in the spicy sauce that comes with, they are almost magical.
