My partner and I were excited to try the famed Crustacean for a dinner date. We arrived at 5 PM, and were seated at a semiprivate, large table for two. The interior was stunning. We started off with the hamachi crudo, calamari, and shrimp and lobster dumplings. The calamari was our favorite and the other two apps were strong. For the main course, we opted for the garlic crab, garlic noodles and the kung pap eggplant. The garlic Noodles and crab were delicious, but the eggplant stole the show. The eggplant was crisp like a fry and tossed in an umami, fragrant sauce, a textural pleasure that I won't forget. For dessert, got the baked Alaska, and it was extremely indulgent and enjoyable. Service was great and prompt. I would come back for the kung pai eggplant and the main entrees!

The rest is very classy and beautifully done. The service was awesome. They were all super friendly and nice. We celebrated a birthday and that was definitely the right choice of restaurant. The food was amazing. Chef Helene did it again. I definitely would recommend this place. The famous garlic noodles and crab, the tuna cigars... and many more dishes we tries were all amazing. Check out the photos.

Crustacean's beautiful new location is absolutely stunning. The atmosphere is elegant, modern, and feels like the perfect place for a special night out. An's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab remains the star of the show and, in my opinion, is still the best crab dish in the Bay Area. The flavor is incredible, and it's easy to see why it has become such an iconic dish. The service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout the meal, making for an exceptional dining experience from start to finish.

Made reservations on a Sunday at 6:30pm for 4, arrived around 6:10 table wasn't quite ready so grabbed drinks and waited for the rest of our group to arrive. Was seated promptly at 6:30pm. Drinks: It's Not Soup - a nice gin based cocktail that's clarified giving it a silky texture, not too boozey, slightly floral with a hint of acidity Pandan Dream - rum forward with bit of acidity from the yuzu, boozey and wish the pandan flavor was stronger, good aroma but felt a bit imbalanced Food: Shrimp Toast - asked for this one to come with 4 pieces so we each got one, crispy baguette topped with a tasty shrimp paste, a solid starter Fried calamari - good, lightly batter, calamari was tender and had a great slightly bouncy texture, the aioli to dip was a nice touch Garlic noodles - excellent, well seasoned savory with lots of sweet garlic flavor, noodles were tender with a subtle chew Garlic crab - good, ordered this deshelled which made for easy eating, crab was sweet and tender with a subtle garlic flavor and lots of butter Stir fried green beans - solid, a nice crisp tender snap, well seasoned with a sweet savory soy and garlic heavy sauce Shaking Beef - okay, beef was stir fried with a medium to medium well cook on the steak cubes, peppery, sweet soy, bell peppers and red onion rounded out the dish, potatoes added heartiness but glad we ordered some steamed rice to pair with this to soak up the sauce Creme brulee - solid, creamy vanilla custard with a great crunchy bruleed caramelized crust. Service was great, Zack our server was warm, friendly, and professional. We had water throughout our meal refilled, fresh plates provided between courses. Pacing of the meal was excellent. Brought a bottle of wine to pair with dinner which staff decanted for us to enjoy. Came to celebrate a birthday and staff brought out ice cream to celebrate which was a great added touch. Overall really enjoyed Crustacean's, the garlic noodles and crab are definitely the stars of the menu. Service was excellent, worth a visit for a special occasion.

Whether you're ordering the dumplings, garlic noodles, or crab, all the dishes are made with attention to detail and taste good. The Bo Kho dumplings were beautifully presented and tasted like Bo Kho. Probably my favorite thing I ate during the night! However, both Bo Kho and dumplings individually are not expensive items. So to put a $25 price tag for only 4 dumplings, it definitely feels a bit hard to justify getting it again for the price. That theme felt pretty much the same throughout the night. All of the dishes were decent and were presented nicely, but nothing I tasted made me go "wow, I need more of this". Crab was fresh, but nothing amazing was done to it that a fresh crab from another restaurant could not emulate. Service was attentive for the most part, and the ambiance of the restaurant is top notch. Don't think I'd come back again for a while personally. Nonetheless, if you're just here for the vibes and maybe a drink with a date/colleague, then this is a solid spot!

Celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The dining room is elegant and sophisticated. Now, it is somewhat dimly lit, which makes reading the menu a bit difficult. Definitely had to pull out my phone to see! The service was exceptional. Everyone was super attentive and kind. The food was delicious, but the portions were a bit smaller than I remembered. The crab puffs were tasty, but soo very small, definitely wanted more. The satay was super good, but again, left us wanting more. Only 1 small skewer of beef and chicken. The garlic noodles were good, but a tad bit dryer than I'd like. The shaking beef was soo good, but more veggies and potatoes than beef. For dessert I had the creme brulee and it did not miss! This is definitely somewhere I'd come back to and recommend.

Let's discuss Crustacean's. First of all, let me start off by saying that I have frequented Crustacean's for over 20 years, and have never had a subpar experience. They have been my family's go-to restaurant for many of our celebratory events, and we love their food and service. With that said, I am very aware that businesses need to evolve and make augments to the way that things have always been done; however, the hubs and I frequented Crustacean's recently at their new location, and I must say that we were substantially underwhelmed. Although they had a new fancy establishment, something was lost in translation. There was something about the nostalgia of the older building. Yes, it certainly needed work, but the food was always great. As for our recent visit, the food was not as good, nor was the service, and the ambiance totally lacked the family feeling that once brought so much warmth and comfort. Now it feels commercial and run-of-the-mill. Of course we will give it another try, but for now, I'm sad that the change brought about a feeling of loss and disappointment.

Wow! I was simply blown away by Crustacean. Every single employee was kind, responsive, and went out of their way to provide top-notch service. Crustacean is impeccably decorated. I highly recommend ordering the tuna cigars, they were delicious! We had the Wagyu dumplings and the spicy buttered chicken dumplings and they were both equally as delicious! The eggplant is a must! I will definitely be back!

Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Food consistently 5/5 We arrived on a Saturday no reservation and were offered bar seating right away. This spot is pricey, however it's worth it every time whenever I go out for roasted crab and garlic noodles this place sets the comparison bar to others. Crustaceans consistently delivers the best crab and garlic noodles bare none. Go here, it's a special occasion so order what you want and you'll be satisfied with experiencing this treasure that started in San Francisco

Tried Crustacean... and honestly, a bit underwhelmed It's definitely on the fancier side, but felt overpriced for what you get. The steak was delicious, no complaints there -- but the portion was tiny. Calamari was thin and crispy, but I personally prefer thicker cuts and have definitely had better elsewhere. The standout for the table was actually the fried rice -- that was the favorite. Overall, not bad, just not worth the price in my opinion.

Since we were all busy during the holidays, I did two bday dinners in a row. I know the birthday girl loves crab and garlic noods so I suggested Crustaceans. I've never been to this location so it was like going to a new resto! I mean, you have to get their two staples. The roast crab has always been my fav. Even tho I like recipes with actual pieces of roasted garlic, this has a fair amount of flavor. The garlic noodles were springy with a nice chew. I actually loved putting some in the crab head with all the fatty innards. So good! I found the apps okay. Not enough bread for the marrow. We ended up ordering more. And I found the dumplings a lil small. Drinks here are excellent tho. I was in the mood for something light and enjoyed the paper plane. This vibe of the new location is definitely swankier than its predecessor. Boisterous music. Large booths. I did enjoy this environment more than the one on Polk. Tho our table could have been a little bigger. Maybe we over ordered? Pricing is on the more expensive side, but crab normally is. Their wine list isn't too bad tho. The BV bottle we ended up getting was only $45 per. We shoulda just stuck to that. It was a nice table red. Not sure if they tack on a 20% service charge for all parties or if it's just 5 or more, but we had it on our receipt. If you're craving crab in a more upscale environment, definitely would recommend this spot. REVIEW #3962

Reservation at 11:45am on a Thursday. As soon as we walk in, we are are greeted by the hosts seats us. Amazing, beautiful setting and clean! The waiter brought us our menus, brought us our water and we ordered. The 3 of us shared food and everything was so good! We didn't have 1 bad entree. Looked like everyone helps each other out bc the bartender helped cleared our table and asked if we wanted a desert menu. We never had to ask to refill our waters. Amazing time, amazing vibes and better yet, amazing food. Pricey but worth it. We had 5 entrees which totaled $125.41 which includes gratuity. Would definitely be coming back and try other things on the menu

I was excited to try the famous crab garlic noodles at Crustacean after hearing the hype around the original Thanh Long and stopped by this Fidi location for a nice lunch with a friend. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and the ambiance really made it feel like an elevated lunch location. Between the 2 of us we got the Roasted Dungeness Crab with garlic noodles on the side and the Chrysanthemum Gem salad to share. First starting off with the salad, it was a solid caesar salad and the large pieces of rice crackers on top were fun to break apart and eat with the salad itself. The star of course was suppose to be the crab cracked out of shell and the famous garlic noodles. I really wanted to love this but I actually thought it lacked flavor and while the crab was coated with garlic butter, it was dry in some parts and the garlic didn't shine. Same with the noodles which were on the heavier side with garlic butter but felt kind of gummy to me. I really wanted to enjoy this more but the combo just felt like too much without providing enough flavor and for the price there are better Asian restaurants in the city which serve fresh crab. I may try Crustacean again if I was looking for an elevated lunch spot in Fidi for a work lunch but I wouldn't say it's worth coming to again just for the food itself.

    Ask the Community - Crustacean

    Is there valet service?

    No unfortunately

Is there parking near the restaurant?

Yes, I park on Battery street. There's a garage on the immediate left as you pass the restaurant.

Is there a dress code like the old one on Polk Street?

Considering they are located in the Financial District, a lot of the clientele were in business casual, but my group (retired ladies) were dressed in jeans, nice blouses and jackets during the lunch hour.

    Do they take walk ins?

They used to. However, I would recommend checking open table or calling. They have been pretty busy at their new location
