I used to be a regular at El Techo before COVID, so I was really excited to check out Cubita for the first time. Walking in brought back so many memories. It looks almost exactly how I remembered, just with some fun updates like the pops of pink throughout the space. The rooftop still has that great energy and is such a fun place to hang out with friends. Atmosphere The rooftop is definitely the highlight. It has a relaxed, lively vibe that makes it easy to spend a couple of hours there. Whether you're stopping by for happy hour or meeting up with a group, it's one of those spots that just feels like a good time. What I Ordered $8 Happy Hour Mojitos Chips & Guacamole Ceviche with Plantain Chips Experience The happy hour mojitos were such a good deal, especially for a rooftop in San Francisco. The chips and guacamole were the perfect snack to share, and I really enjoyed the ceviche with the plantain chips. Everything felt fresh and paired well with the drinks. More than anything, I loved seeing the space come back to life while still keeping the charm that made me love it years ago. Final Thoughts Overall, I really love this place. I really wish I could give it a higher rating because the place was pretty cool. The ambiance was great. The music was different genres so you got a little bit of everything. It wasn't too loud either so you can have conversations without yelling across the table. The view was amazing especially at night just seeing the city lit up was great. The service was fantastic. Our server was attentive and got us our food fairly quickly. Even when it came to cleaning up the table the staff were really on it. The food did not sell me unfortunately. The empanadas were flavorful and so were the wings to some extent. None of the sandwiches sold me I just felt like they lacked flavor. The fries were pretty standard. The rice wasn't cooked all the way either for the pollo asado but the chicken was just okay. The yuca rellena wasn't good to me but my friends loved it so there's that. Cubita is one of the few, if not the only rooftop bar in the Mission. It specializes in drinks and traditional Cuban appetizers and entrees. The atmosphere is fantastic and has great music, wind protecting clear room dividers and lively Cuban music all with great city views. The non-alcoholic drinks were original and refreshing and the food was delicious. We ordered stuffed yucca frita, plátanos maduros with beans and burrata and spicy wings. We were not disappointed. I would come back anytime, especially after a movie since it's right Nextdoor to the Alamo drafthouse. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed. It gets quite busy so make sure to make a reservation ahead of time or arrive before 5 pm particularly on weekends. read more

A really cute place with a gorgeous view of the city. Passes the vibe check! Friendly service and decent food. Good drinks (many can be made non-alcoholic). My friend also arranged for them to bring out a complimentary birthday dessert for our friend. We had dinner here and later our waitress said she needed the table so we could sit in other area that's more for ordering drinks. So we spent the rest of the night there. Came here to start off pride weekend and it was a BLAST. I had so much fun since they had a drag show and all the vibes like great music on and off the show, along with great food and drinks! As soon as we walked in they welcome you and seat you. it was just me and a friend and we sat and they brought us the menu and water. Cubita has been on my list ever since I found out it replaced El Techo, which I unfortunately did not get the pleasure of visiting, as I only discovered it when the pandemic started and the lockdown went into effect. I was still in college at the time and moved to Los Angeles soon after graduation, so it was an unrealized bucket list item. I was really eager to visit Cubita though, and the perfect opportunity arose when I went out with my friends on Friday night. We first hit up a cocktail hour pregame at another friend's apartment before making our way here. Originally, we considered going to Arcana, but the environment seemed too loud, and we just wanted somewhere to chill and still be able to have a conversation, so we quickly pivoted to Cubita nearby. It was the right call. Although we came around the time for last call, we were still able to order drinks, so we put in our order for a round of cocktails. I got the Hotel Nacional, and my friends opted for a whisky highball and Double Nine respectively. All around great drinks, great vibes, and cozy atmosphere on the heated outdoor rooftop patio. I was a lil disappointed we couldn't order food but totally understand and respect that the kitchen had already closed for the night. The staff is on top of everything from drink service to meal service. We started off the meal with Yuca fries. The dipping sauce was so delicious, it made up for the blandness of the fries. The fries needed a little something something to take that flavor to the next level. I ordered a Shirley Temple because I was in the mood for a girl drink, and it was just OK. We decided to share a couple of different entrées, because adjoining tables had so many different dishes and everything looked delicious, and it's the type of atmosphere where you just wanna try everything. We ordered the Cubano Sando, and the nachos. The Cubano was just OK. The meat was on the cold side, and it wasn't appealing. I was looking for the warm bite with the melted cheese, with that pickle crunch. The pickle was there The nachos- ( nachos De Lechon) this is the most perfect dish. I've never enjoyed nachos this much. Before you think, chips and a few toppings, no my friends, this is a different level. This is absolutely the dish that you should include in part of your order. Let's just say that everything is house made, and you absolutely can taste it in each and every bite. Picture a plate of chips, where all the chips have all the toppings on each chip. Every bite that you will enjoy is incredibly flavorful and delicious and my mouth is watering, just thinking about the tender pieces of perfectly seasoned pork, the black beans, melted cheese, jalapeños, is your mouth watering yet?! I promise you that this is a must try! It absolutely is a shareable, and while you're dining, enjoying the company that you're with, the food that quickly appears in front of you, they have a DJ that is spinning tunes that warms the atmosphere, but doesn't drown out the conversation. My friend and I heard that they were newly opened and decided to check out their happy hour which was from 5 - 6:30 pm on the Thursday we went. The outdoor seating with views of the city was so nice and sitting outside didn't feel too cold with the heat lamps that they adjusted for us. Yuca Frita - These were very thick and lightly crispy. With the lime on top and the mayo like sauce on the side made a combination that was creamy and sour which lifted the heavier frita. Toston - It was my first time trying a toston but it was something that I enjoyed the most trying from this meal. The beans had such a depth of flavor that kept drawing me back, it was savory and seasoned well. It was paired so nicely with the lightly crispy plantains and light green salsa. Alitas de Pollo - The wings were so yum with the sweet and sour sauce that they put on top. There was a spicier sauce on the side but even without it, the wings were packed with flavor and so juicy already. Cubano - A pretty standard cubano. It was a decent size, not too heavy and I liked the overall classic combination of it together. Nice to eat with the steak fries that it came with. We decided to try one of everything on the happy hour menu and it was so well priced from 6 - 8 dollars along with the portion size. It was a bit to sweet for my liking and the foam at the top doesn't really pair well with it. A bit of an odd drink I should have asked for a recommendation but I know better for next time. The Paloma was really good and fresh great to have after dinner. As this was our first time here we weren't sure about service it took a while for a server to come attend to us but definitely understandable as it's a busy Friday night. I decided to check out Cubita for happy hour, which occupies the spacious rooftop where El Techo used to be. The process is pretty straightforward, you just check in with the host downstairs before taking the elevator up. Since we didn't have a reservation, we were seated in the bar area, which worked out perfectly fine for us. If you're looking for an actual table in the "inside" section of the roof, I'd definitely suggest booking ahead of time. It was a bit chilly being up high, but they have plenty of heating lamps to keep things comfortable while you take in the view. We made it just in time for their happy hour menu, which runs until 6:30 PM, and we really enjoyed the apps and drinks we ordered. I've lived in SF long enough (and dined out enough as a Yelp Elite) to know when a place in the Mission has staying power. Cubita genuinely surprised me in the best way. The space is colorful and lively without feeling chaotic. It's festive, but you can still hear your friends across the table. We ordered family style and got to try a lot of yummy food! The guacamole was delish. Platano Maduro was my favorite it's fried ripe plantains with burrata cheese. Other notables was the Ceviche Caribeno, awesome sandwiches the CUBANO, the CHORIPAN. We had dinner reservations for three at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. Parking can be tough in the Mission, so we arrived a little early to account for that. We were seated by the ledge of their beautiful rooftop dining area, right next to a much-needed heater! We started with a mojito pitcher to kick off the night before diving into our bites. I loved the small-plate style, which allowed us to try a little bit of everything. The ceviche and empanadas were standouts for me. I had some friends visiting from out of town, and one of their requests was to find a rooftop bar nearby. Cubita was exactly what we were looking for. We were excited to check it out, and it definitely did not disappoint. It's a good idea to book a reservation in advanced for larger groups but the line to get in for walk-in even on a beautiful Saturday seemed to be moving fairly quick. It's a welcome addition to the Mission, especially since most rooftop bars in San Francisco tend to be concentrated in SoMa. The space is great for small groups, and the menu offers a nice selection of tapas and shareable dishes. Whether you're looking for a casual spot to grab drinks and snacks or want to settle in for a full dinner, Cubita gives you both options with a view. Overall, the atmosphere, rooftop setting, and variety of shareable plates make it a great spot to bring visitors or enjoy a night out with friends. Since the beloved "El Techo" rebranded as "Cubita" I've returned a few times. The ownership is still the same and from what one of the owners (or somebody in management) said, they decided to pivot to Cuban cuisine to give something fresh to the SF community. At first, I was really bummed that I would no longer be able to have El Techo's iconic chicharrones but Cubita has successfully been able to deliver a delicious spin on cuban inspired cocktails and bites. I have been able to try a few of their drinks which have all been excellent. I've paired them with bites such as their ceviche and alitas de pollo (chicken wings) which have pleasantly surprised me. The wings are a 10/10 for me - tangy, grilled and with a kick. I've also had their Cubano sandwiches which are delicious! It reminds me of the ones of I've had in Little Havana. I think Cubita is worth trying. I'll be honest, I was skeptical of the complete overhaul here when it was first announced but the attention to detail when it comes to their menu and the ambiance has not changed. There are heaters on so it didn't feel too chilly in the SF night. We ordered off of the SF Restaurant Week set menu and ordered oysters separately for apps. I loved most of the items that we ordered, but I do wish the lechon was softer. I also really loved the flan for dessert. Above all, the service here is fantastic. Our server was very attentive and welcoming. My partner and I made a reservation and noted that it was our anniversary. We came when they were having salsa Sunday and damn did we get blessed. The layout is very bright and festive, with a lot of tributes to the namesake. The staff were friendly and helpful, and very quick on their follow up despite a busy rush of people. The live DJ and music set really topped it off, while still being quiet enough that you could hear those at your table. The food and drinks were delicious all around; the drinks were mostly rum derived (and a LOT of it) and the food menu was chock full of Cuban favorites. I often go for the happy hour (open - 6) served only in the bar area. I liked the service that night, and maybe I shouldn't put this in the review but they liked us too because we ended up getting a free round of shots after we complimented the service staff a lot. Hey man, good service should always be recognized. It makes people feel good on both sides. I ordered the plátano maduros, yuca frita & yuca rellena. All small plates but all delicious. I think my favorite was the yuca rellena. The texture is subtlety crunchy followed by a potato-like soft bite into savory, ground beef goodness. Compared to other Cuban restaurants I've went to the menu is very small. I was so prepared to get the mojo chicken with beans and rice, possibly congri but neither was on the menu. Also, the Cubano sandwich was just alright - too much bread or something. I prefer the one from Cholita Linda in Alameda/Oakland. SF has a location, but I haven't been. Pre-gamed happy hour food and drinks on my birthday before going to a different restaurant. In hindsight, this maybe wasn't a great idea bc we got so full here and could barely eat our dinner even with a few hours in between lmao. No ragrets! Easily made reservations the day before via OpenTable. While on our way to the city, I got a notification about my reservation from Cubita saying that their elevator wasn't working and that we'd have to climb 3 flights of stairs. No biggie, but really appreciated the heads up! Between two of us, we ordered everything off of the HH menu (except for beer) and also the empanadas off of the regular menu. Everything from the food/ drinks/ service/ ambiance was top notch! I also like that doggos are allowed because we saw so many cute ones. We utilized the Photo Booth near the bathrooms, but just warning that it begins and takes photos pretty quickly, so plan out your poses beforehand. It feels like you're right in the middle of the city. We ordered the Double Nine and the Cocodrilo cocktails. Both were really fun and unique! For bites we tried their wings and yuca rellena. The wings were so tender, juicy, slightly charred and full of flavor. The side mango habanero sauce was also delicious and packed a punch which I loved. I appreciated the sauce being served on the side so I can decide how much sauce I want on each bite. The Yuca rellena was also a delicious snack to pair with our drinks! Nice texture and flavor and paired great with the side mango habanero sauce from the wings as well. To finish things off we got carajillos which just happen to be one of my favorite cocktails ever so its nice to see this on a menu for once as sometimes places dont have the right ingredient (liquor 43) to make it. Location has always been my favorite even before they replaced El techo but i love the way they changed the ambience and gave it a bit more of the cuban vibe! They were able to accommodate our big party of 13 ppl and were able to service us promptly. Towards the end, it did take a while to get the check. Nonetheless, they were very attentive. Now to the food & drinks, I ordered the empanada and wow! the ropa vieja meat was sooooo good, literally ordered two orders of these!! can't forget the green sauce that came with it! the drinks were great like the el capitan and their own version of an espresso martini. But I'm happy to report that they've revamped this place with decor that transports you to Little Havana, delicious drinks, and a brand new Cuban menu that hits the spot. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The staff was super attentive and everyone was always checking on us. We accidentally ordered a Dirty Bird thinking it was a mojito. After tasting it, we embarrassingly told our waitress we didn't like it and she switched it out without a problem. Thank you to that kind waitress! It was a cold day in the city but the view was still gorgeous and they have patio heaters all around. Lively spot, perfect for drinks and apps before a night out. I've previously been here when it was El Techo for a happy hour and the ambiance is pretty much the same! It's super cute and the tents/heaters help a bunch! The view is great as long as weather allows too. The food was great here. Some items definitely better than others. I will say certain portions are very small and should be priced differently. For example the Empanadas being $14 and they are tiny. We tried quite a bit off the menu and my favorite was the Cubano sandwhich. The drinks were super tasty and yummy! Service was fine! Pretty good food but some disappointing service and mid vibes, particularly for a special occasion. Group of 11 came to celebrate a birthday in mid June and we tried most of the food menu. FOOD 4.5/5 Lechon Asado was the best tasting entree: great presentation of accompanying items and well flavored. It was slightly salty and a couple pieces of the five were quite fatty. The green sauce was so fresh and pickled veggies accompanied well. Solid entree to share plus get an app. 4/5 Pescado Frito Entero fish was fried well and cod tasted fresh. Not too many bones left but a few to be aware of when eating. Side salad was tiny to accompany a $46 dish for two people, honestly just one person could have had the portion. 5/5 Ceviche Caribeno was the best appetizer -- super fresh fish, bright flavors and delicious plantain chips. EXPERIENCE Menu printed had punch bowls but we weren't allowed to order them yet (due to special cups?) and the server didn't offer any alternatives but the multiple drinks deal would have fit our group well. Server was hardly around -- cocktails took variable amount of time from 5-12 min. It felt like an awkward experience for some people to keep waiting around for drinks but wanting to cheers together. Server rarely came by for water refills or was challenging to flag down, and he left many empty plates (space taking at the table). Seemed they gave less effort knowing they would get guaranteed large group gratuity %. The two restrooms were totally atrocious with puddles around (sus) and not kept up at all. El Techo's newest improvement! A friend had wanted to do HH and suggested this spot. The HH is a good deal for drinks and food! We came for drinks but ended up staying for the food. There was not a single bad food item we ordered and the drinks got me drunk. Parking is crazy since it's in the Mission but definitely worth a check out, especially when it is a beautiful sunny day in SF. We came right at opening with no reservations and got seated immediately. Service here was super fun and kind as well. read more

Ambiance 5/5 - feels like a hidden rooftop in the heart of mission with the coolest elevator to get there. Outside is sunny but shaded, breezy but covered - absolutely phenomenal views of the city! The trio went on Saturday around 5ish and got seated along the edge within minutes. Service 5/5 - our server was so fast and attentive. Everyone there is super friendly! Cocktails 5/5 - everything we ordered were so good! Qué Bola had a lovely foam on top of the milkwash - drool. The Havana Heat was also one of my favorites! Food 5/5 - Yuca Rellena was pretty much like croquette but somehow the flavors made it taste Italian - it was a trip! Empanadas de Ropavieja had the loveliest crust with the best filling. Would highly recommend! Alitas de Pollo are sauced chicken wings with a lovely char. The pieces were thick and juicy! We cannot wait to come back for more food next time! read more

I used to love El Techo but I have to say I love Cubita even more. Similar concept but improved menu. Interesting starters as well as mains. You can't go wrong with a carne dish here. They know what they're doing. And if you get lucky and go on a day with good weather, those views are worth a million. read more

Cubita is such a vibe, colorful sunny rooftop with Cuban inspired art and decor! This place is perfect for shared plates with friends. For appetizers we got the ceviche, toston, and empanadas which were all delicious! For mains, you have to try the lechón, it has such a savory lime flavor and the meat falls apart. The entree was really stand out for us! Keep in mind pretty much everything on the menu is fried in case that's not your vibe. Service was also excellent and the waiter swapped out our plates and silverware between apps and entrees which was appreciated :) read more

I came here with a large group of 14 and had a wonderful time. This is a great place for big groups, as we saw a lot of other huge parties! They space things out well, but note you'll likely get a very long narrow table, so it can be difficult to talk to everyone. The vibes and the service are lovely though. The food was great too, but definitely a little on the smaller side. Hands down, the best dish was the Cubano. It's a must try! I would also recommend buying drinks individually rather than in pitchers. We tried two of the pitchers and found them to be almost undrinkable... it was just so sweet and bitter at the same time. Still, I'd come back for another group event. Loved the rooftop and the overall spirit of the place! read more

I was here on a Saturday for brunch with a few friends. I had the Ropavieja Hash, which was pretty good. Big chunks of tender beef stewed with peppers and tomatoes. It was served with potatoes and topped with scrambled eggs. Despite all the ingredients, it lacked that certain something that would make the dish stand out. Everything was seasoned fairly well, but could have used more flavor. The ambiance is okay - the space could be a bit more polished, but I did enjoy the views of the city from the roof. The service was good - most of the staff was friendly and they did their best to make sure everyone was taken care of. On a nice day, it's great to be outside here. I'd probably come back here to try their happy hour. read more
