Walked in and immediately was seated at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and served me right away. Got a cold beverage and ordered the spicy shrimp crispy rice. Although it leaned a little sweet, it was a well balanced appetizer with crispy rice on the bottom and succulent spicy shrimp on top. I then ordered the Detroit style pepperoni pizza and the buttery cheesy crust was immaculate and the sauce was delicious. What a great experience! read more

Was really excited to try culinary dropout and I decided to come for brunch with a friend! I had a reservation but it wasn't super busy so I don't think you'd really need one here. Our server was great and the food came out super quickly! I had their sausage, bacon, and egg pizza and my friend had their smoked salmon plate and I absolutely loved my pizza! The smoked onion Alfredo sauce was sooooo good and the plate was huge and I ended up bringing half of it home! We then shared their monkey bread which was just an apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. It was alright, but I preferred the brunch plates more! Overall I liked the new culinary dropout! A firm, hearty 3.5 stars. As things cool down and the staff gets better, this will likely improve. I sat by the bar on a Thursday. I was unable to find seating on Saturday which is fair enough. I was impressed with the House Chips I got even if it was a bit greasy, and thought my Turkey Pastrami (shown) was excellent even if it needed a bit more dressing. My two gripes with Culinary Dropout are thus: The service was awful. Out of 4 bartenders only one ever paid me any mind. Ordering took an eternity and cashing out took even longer. That being said, the kitchen works at blazing speeds. And my soft drink was 4.50. I understand inflation and all, but that is a ridiculous price to charge for soda. Overall, Ashford Lane is hopping with great options, and Culinary Dropout will likely become one of them. read more

I took a guy out on a date and WE BOTH felt like celebrities...as if he was JayZ & I was Beyoncé cause various staff greeted us, opening doors for us and called me by my name which was very pleasing!!! (Only thing we were missing was the paparazzi's.)LOL There was a whole complete vibe as we were then greeted by 2host & 1 escorted us to a table as live music was played by a lovely African American lady singing as she played a guitar along with/her band. Attended the soft opening with a friend. There was a live band playing upon arrival. We ordered the BBQ porkbelly nachos to start. I'm not sure what type of cheese they use on the nachos but it was good. I would say they could have added more pico de gallo and guacamole. For our mains, I ordered the steak and frites and my friend had the 36-hr pork ribs. I loved the truffle butter on the steak but it was slightly undercooked as I prefer medium well (steak was slightly mooing). I tried my friend's pork ribs and they were really good! While we were eating our food, a waiter came and brought us an extra mocktail that was made at the bar. I don't quite remember the name but it was delicious. For dessert we ordered the monkey bread which was disappointing. It needed more cinammon. Overall, this is a great new edition to the Dunwoody/ Sandy Springs area and I will keep this restaurant in my rotation. read more

Trying out a new place for dinner. We were not impressed. I will give it another try - maybe brunch. Started with the pretzel bites with provolone fondue. See picture. That is where the good ended. I ordered the fried chicken. Was told I would get 3 pieces (I only got 2), but the only way she could make sure I got a breast was to put it in for white only and there would be an up charge - fine. Mom ordered the prime rib dip and dad ordered the meatloaf. They were out of both! We were there at 5:30! Pretty early for things to be out at dinner! Dad ended up with the roasted salmon - he said it was pretty good. Mom got fish and chips - they were so over done it was barely edible. I got 2 breasts, and they were so overdone! My friend got 3 piece - again, over done! The biscuits were also nearly hockey pucks! And the serving of mashed potatoes was so tiny! Our server was lovely and we loved that we could bring our dog and sit in the patio. Their heaters worked fine! Would. Not recommend based on tonight. But like I said - one more try. read more

We had dinner here this evening and the pros were the live music, the two ladies performing were fantastic. The atmosphere is quite lovely and the Brussel sprouts appetizer was solid. That's the high. Service was abysmal, slow with no follow up. Our table had the pasta, tiny portion scarfed down by little girl, burger cooked okay but not amazing and fish and chips COLD, not even room temp. We told the server the food was cold he looked at me like "what". Anyway, first time there last time, hoped for a better experience but on a slow Saturday evening with a half full restaurant, this was the best we think we will expect. read more

First visit with our family and like other commenters we found the restaurant too loud. Music was blasting when we walked in. Then they had a live duo playing which was good but still too loud. We couldn't hear the waiter or speak to each other. We chose the create your own charcuterie board which was good. Only problem is we spent nearly $50 on two small cheeses, 2 meats, salmon dip, 4 pieces of grilled bread and Brussels sprouts but it didn't come with crackers of any kind. Next were the meals...one in our party got the burger which was overshadowed by a very large bun. One got the Korean ribeye which we were warned was spicy but this over the top almost not edible spicy. One got the chicken pasta where the pasta was good but chicken was very minor in portion. One got a Caesar salad with fried shrimp which was ok but shrimp were the very small ones. Lastly one got the MAC burger which was also just ok. Overall would consider coming back, sitting elsewhere and trying other foods to give it another chance. Food wise our favorite was the charcuterie but that hefty price tag deters me. read more

The menu here presents multiple enticing options, making it difficult to choose without worrying about buyer's remorse. Ultimately, I went with the steak frites, cooked medium. It was perfectly seasoned and served with a delicious sauce alongside crispy french fries. I did not have buyer's remorse, but would like to return to try some of the other items on the menu. I really appreciate it when chefs actually take the time to make the dishes the best versions of what they can be. It really shows that they are doing that here and it's refreshing to see that level of consideration for the diners who are trusting them with their evening out with friends and family. My friends got the french dip sandwich and fried chicken with roasted brussels sprouts, which they said they throughly enjoyed. Dropped in to this location on a recent stay in Sandy Springs. Great spot! Large bar, comfortable chairs & TVs all around. Beautiful patio for outdoor seats. We had the pork belly nachos, the slicer (chef's choice charcuterie), an old fashioned & evil jungle princess (rum drink). Everything was delicious. The nachos have shredded pork belly - so not the big fatty bacon chunks - but full of pork belly flavor. Our server, I'm sorry her name escapes me, was very helpful with menu and bar selections. We will probably return during this trip & can't wait to visit the Birmingham location when I get home. read more

Visited Culinary Dropout on a Thursday at 9 PM and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was perfect, with dimmed lighting that made for a cozy evening. Parking was a breeze with plenty of spaces behind the building--no valet necessary. Though the outdoor seating looked amazing, I opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was not only attentive but also great company. I enjoyed a glass of Cabernet and ordered the steak frites, which were delicious. I also shared a salmon dip and even dared to try the soup (and I don't even like soup), which turned out to be amazing. Simple food done right. The name of the restaurant alone congers up negative thoughts. We went for the first time with a party of 4 on a Sunday afternoon. We were looking forward to dining on the patio as the weather was perfect this Father's Day. We started with an order of drinks which seemed to take forever. We then placed our order and waited.....over one hour when 3 entrees arrived but not the 4th. When we inquired about the 4th dish the server said everything is made to order and fresh ....and? Isn't that the way restaurants work? All food ordered is made to order and hopefully fresh. The meal finally arrived when we were all finished with our meals and with one bite my friend realized it was INEDIBLE due to the amount of salt. Who knows? Maybe there's a trigger happy chef in the back with an extra large salt shaker that needs to be restrained to avoid further bad reviews. In all honesty after we completed and complained they did kindly and rightly so comp all our drinks and the one entree. Great from beginning to end. Our server was nice, informative and let us take our time enjoying ourselves. She knew how to sell without being overbearing. The restaurant has all sorts of little nooks and corners and different seating that appeals to a variety of diners. We sat in a really comfy little booth. The menu has so many things I would like to try (and will come back to do so), but we wound up having the house chips, the Roasted Salmon, and the monkey bread for dessert. I'm a sucker for an onion dip and the one that came with the chips was a great start. The butternut squash and farro risotto in the salmon were outstanding. Loved it! And the monkey bread was tasty with apples and little bit of ice cream to nosh on. Great way to round out a meal. It was the perfect size to share and not feel like a total glutton. So, this place for me was just good. Not bad, not great. Good. The food was good and the service was good. I did like the ambiance, they have a fantastic bar and they had one of the best Old Fashioned's I've had in a long time (that got them the 4th star from me). This place was SOOO good! Everything was fantastic. Drinks were amazing and our server was super cool and knowledgeable. The restaurant itself is very pretty and almost fancy but the atmosphere is laid back. This charcuterie board was the best thing I had during my stay in ATL. We also got the chicken salad, fried chicken and the "yesterdays soup" which was a tomato bisque. The bill was high, so I think it's a little more expensive than other places but well worth it! I've ordered the pasta bolognese twice in two weeks. It's so good to me because the noodles are cooked just right and the sauce is light and not very tomato-ey. Don't worry, the flavor is there. While it is a charming space, the food and service were terrible on my first and likely last visit. Our server took a while to greet us and offer us drinks. She spent most of her time selling us a charcuterie board. We ordered iced tea . (I think you should mention when it's fruit flavored tea) It took quite a while for a someone else to bring us our drinks. So we sat and waited, and waited and waited. She finally took our order. I ordered Yesterdays Soup (chili) a chicken sandwich . My guest ordered a French Dip. Our server never came back before the food came out and it took forever to come out. At one point a staff member came to tell us it would be out soon. I asked why they didn't bring the soup out first as it's ready and all you have to do is put it in the bowl. His response was unapologetic. The Chili was completely mid. It wouldn't win a placing in the neighborhood cook-off. My friend's French Dip was ok. The chicken sandwich was not good. It was overly sweet and the "Japanese milk bread" it was on was bad as well. The fries that came with sandwich were limp and not good. You can get better fries almost anywhere else. When she came to check for her on us I just didn't have the time, patience to send it back. She was nice but execution matters when lunch costs $75. Had a great meal on opening weekend @ Culinary Dropout Perimeter. Will 100% be back. Started out with a couple of items off their antipasto menu (cheese/olives/toast) that were tasty. Also had the pretzel & provolone fondue app that was amazing. You can see the fondue in the background of my photo but the pretzel bites were all eaten. We finished up with the sausage & pepperoni Detroit style pizza. Every piece had a nice crust with crispy cheese. Delicious. Drink menu was diverse and interesting.
