I love their drinks but allowing some one to walk into your store with NO MASK means you have knowingly allow them to spread their germs all over the store in a 8ft radius of where they are standing and walking by. Totally unsafe and not worth the health risk. This no mask carelessness is unacceptable and I rely on biz to care enough about their customer's health and safety to enforce this 100%. I got munchies for Taiwanese popcorn chicken and ordered pick up. Yelped and found Cup O Joy. I ordered the popcorn chicken meal and milk tea smoothie with boba. I got lost on the way and expected the food to be meh but got home and was pleasantly surprised to find the chicken juicy and crunchy. The boba was squishy and the milk tea was good. Staff is nice b/c they usually greet you as you come in. However, the cashier once mistook my order for just popcorn chicken when I wanted the popcorn chicken meal and I KNEW he was supposed to put down the meal because he even asked me if I wanted to substitute the egg and tofu out for anything, and I said no. I'm back again, just like Britney. I'm here to tell you that Cup O'Joy is my guilty pleasure. It's my haven. It's my refuge. It's where I go after everything in my day has gone wrong, and it's where I go for everything to go right. No matter what I'm going through, there's nothing a cup of boba and an order of popcorn chicken from Cup O'Joy can't fix! And if one order doesn't do it, order two. I don't know what it is but it's comforting to see the music videos play in the background not match the music that's playing in the shop. I guess this is what authenticity looks like. Beware the employees, they're too good at their jobs! I was once convinced to change my regular popcorn chicken order to the chicken strips and I regret it. It was more expensive, and the chicken strips became soggy after a few minutes. Never again. Nothing beats a crunchy all around, never failing popcorn chicken bite. The boba, I love it too! The tapioca balls are smooth and easy to go down. The flavors (Thai Tea is my go-to) are always so rich. The boba here is honestly addicting. I was able to try this place out and man I was not disappointed. The food and drinks here are amazing and the staff are super friendly. This boba spot is located right by USC and they specialize in their customizable drinks and traditional Taiwanese foods. I highly suggest ordering their Strawberry Lemon Mint Green Tea. I am addicted to that and really want to go get more. I also recommend their tenders and fries, it's so delicious. Their Cookies and Cream milk shake is also really good. If you are a coffee lover, please try their salted cream coffee. They way they make their salted cream is freaking amazing. I was able to talk to the manager about it, sadly I won't be able to tell you their secret, but it was the best salted cream coffee I have ever tasted. Honestly the atmosphere and the care they put into making the food and drinks is completely worth it. Was great at making small talk while I was deciding what to order. They have a "CHUBBY" size which is hella dope! I was super satisfied and had enough to enjoy while at home as well. They have the sweetest staff, the owner Tim was so nice to share his story and how hard his team works on having high quality food and great flavors. It's really close to usc so it's a perfect location for a late night bite or if you are me a boba at all hours of the day. The boba here is absolutely delicious and may be one of the best tasting bobs with respect to consistency, texture, size and taste. No lines, no wait, and plenty of parking. In Los Angeles, it's rare to find a place that fulfills all three! There's always plenty of tables available. I never have to wait more than 3 minutes for my order. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm a boba expert, but I've been to several boba places (Ozero, coco, Boba Time, Tea Brick, Half n half, Factory Tea) and Cup of Joy is on par with some of these places. Since I work close by, it's convenient for me to pick up a cup of boba before heading home. I've also only had the tea with boba. I haven't had the milk teas or the slushes yet so I can't comment on the quality of those beverages. With regards to the food, I've never been disappointed with any of the food items. I've had the chicken plate, the dumplings, and the sweet potato fries--just to name a few. The owners are also very nice people, and I've chatted with them on several occasions. Lastly, there are several tables with outlets, a coveted amenity at tea/coffee shops. I do some of my work from coffee shops, and many shops do not have outlets near the tables. The battery life on my computer is about one hour, so it's important for me to work at places that have outlets near the tables. read more

The good thing about Cup O' Joy is that it's one of the few boba shops near USC that has a full food menu. While it doesn't compare to anything you can get in highly Asian populated areas such as San Gabriel or Monterrey Park, it's cheap, its convenient, and it satisfies my cravings for Chinese style popcorn chicken and rice. I would also recommend their mushroom minced pork on rice. All of their combination meals come with a choice of two sides. I recall the selection including: tempura, fish balls, Chinese kim chi, tofu + egg, potato salad and a spring roll. Their boba is nothing to write home about, but it's passable. Unfortunately, they do not accept credit card. There is however a Bank of America ATM right outside. They also have free wi-fi, but I can't imagine anyone getting much studying done there. 3.5 stars. read more

Although most people come here for boba, I wanted to write a review about the food here, which I like even more. I really like their combo meal with Braised Pork Belly and Popcorn Chicken ($7.50). It comes with steamed rice, stir-fried cabbage and carrots, fried tofu, and a hard-boiled egg, making the overall portions quite generous. The pork belly skin has the melt in your mouth quality and texture to it that I enjoy, being similar to how I cook it and how my favorite Chinese restaurants make it. It doesn't get too busy most of the time, so usually you'll find an open table or two. It's a decent hangout spot for students as USC is close by. Staff here are friendly and don't mind when people study here for a few hours while eating or having boba. Is it a cup FULL of joy or a cup of NO joy? To me it's a cup half of joy. You'd think that a cafe with the name "joy" incorporated in it, would be full of joy, but it's not.
