Normally when we come to eat the food is good. We've come multiple times because it's open late, it's convenient and the price is not too bad. Tonight was a different story. We get here about 8:45p and order 2 breaded teriyaki plates and a teriyaki beef sandwich. It's not very busy but we waited a good 10-15 min when our buzzer goes off. I take my first bite of breaded teriyaki and it's cold. Ugh! I feel my husbands breaded teriyaki and his is cold as well. What is confusing to me is that if the food was cold, why did we wait so long for our food? Went to return both plates but I'm not sure if they just reheated ours or if they cooked us brand new ones. I would think that there could be temperature concerns, if they precook food it should be held in a warmer. I really hope that they did cook us brand new pieces as it wouldn't be right. When getting our plates back, the teriyaki was hot but now we dig into the rice and it's cold as well and hard (not cooked all they way through aka beady rice or bb shot). My daughter didn't want to upset us but she said that her teriyaki meat was cold in her sandwich as well. The only thing with correct temperature was the Mac salad. Tonight was a very disappointing evening to say the least. Hopefully they will correct their food temperature because that is how people get sick from food borne illness. read more

We just left Cupies. Those ladies are awesome coming to the cars and ordering. Our food came within 5 minutes. Way faster than McDonalds! It is real food. Don't forget your shakes. read more

So I called and placed an order at Cupies Maui and they asked what kind of car I have, I told them i'll be coming with a white Jeep Wrangler. She constantly kept asking what kind of car. So I then told her "my car is a white Jeep Wrangler. what else do you want me to say?" she then told me my total and said "fuck you" before hanging up. If Yelp was around back when I was younger then this would have been 5 stars. Sadly Cupie's hasn't been the same since the mid 1990's I don't know when the new owners took over but this place has really gone down the drain. Last two times I ate here were in 2003 and I couldn't even finish what I ordered. Tried again in like 2009 or 2010 with the same results. I don't personally know if it has gotten worse I haven't even once considered going back to find out since from what I've heard from friends still on Maui (who remember the real Cupie's) it hasn't . Been here a few times now due to convenience and the fact that we actually enjoy the food. Service is super friendly and prices are a great value, especially the burgers and fries. Real local style burgers (like Sam Sato's or Suda Store), simple but tasty. The crinkle cut fries have a crispy outside, soft inside, and they come with the typical mayo/mustard/ketchup combo. Tried the beef tomato; nice big chunks of beef and veggies but lacking a bit of flavor/salt (I would suggest vine-ripened or cherry tomatoes for moisture and sweet, juicy tomato goodness). The mac salad could definitely be improved, but you can choose corn instead (would be great to have green salad as an option). Finally tried the breaded teriyaki I was longing for. Perhaps my tastebuds, desperate for nostalgia, created expectations too high because I was sadly disappointed. The beef was tough, breaking my fork in two places. The breading had no crisp to it. Honestly, it tasted like they pre-cooked it, then finished it off as ordered. It didn't at all taste made-to-order. I'm sure it's the most popular item, since the original Cupie's recipe has inseverable attachments, but shortcuts should not be taken on this ever so precious commodity. But if my order was in fact fresh and that was the result, then I'm doubly disappointed. Overall though, the food is fair to good and prices are valuable. We have decided to choose Cupies as our fave place to grind after a hard day's work. Been here many times and tried the hamburger deluxe,fries,dry mein,chow fun,cheese burger,and the awesome Cupies shakes...so many varieties! The service is not only fast but very friendly and professional. I love the Las Vegas style water mists in front that is so needed on these horrible hot October days. They also have tiny pagers that are given to customers to alert them when their order is ready. It's great to be supporting our local businesses..makes it more Maui No Ka Oe! read more

Called in a phone order couple nights ago and got the chop steak.. onions onions onions and more onions! Shouldn't be even called chopped steak... should be chopped onions. The plate had more onions than anything. To add to that, the steak (the very few pieces in the plate) was dry and hard like cardboard. Save your money, go somewhere else. read more

Picked up dinner last nite. Hubby had the chopped steak with mac salad; meat was tough and salad had no taste. I had the shrimp omelet, no taste had to put a lot of shoyu. Paid $10+ for each. When you're ballin on a budget, you want the most bang for your buck. Cupies is it. I have no idea what they put in their burgers, but they're amazing. Crispy, perfectly flavored, and simple- just the way I like it. I've also tried their breaded teriyaki sandwich, fish and chips, pastele stew, and beef stew which they had on special and totally pigged out. Not a huge fan of their chili or chop steak. I personally don't like sweet-chewy-strangely marinated meat, so maybe it's a preference thing. Who knows. Their fries and milk shakes are always a treat, and the families that run the place are great. Always kind, clean, and keep things moving to get you out as soon as they can. My favorite milk shake thus far has been the U-BAE because #UbeIsLife! My least- the matcha. Don't do it. Just the memory of it along was enough to knock a star off for me, haha. Not sure what all the hype is about this place right now.. Sure it looks a lot prettier and the breaded teriyaki tasted good, but for a $13 plate lunch, it weighed as much - or less than - a Bento. I paid $1 extra to get all chow fun instead of rice, had I known it'd be about 5 strings of noodles, I would've stuck to rice. And like I said, the breaded Teri tasted good, but it was only 3 cute palm sized pieces. I really like the Grand reopening, the ice cream logo was awesome, love the design, the front station was cool too. Then they gave you this buzzer which was small and cute that it feels like your using your cellphone. The workers were great, they are very busy so I tipped them $3. This place is a must while on Maui or in the central area! Since their new ownership this place has become really improved n locals go there a lot because the food not only is very good but the prices r reasonable n they have a good selection. Even if they're busy it's worth going n they have it organized where they give u a buzzer to let u know when ur order is up. N the wait is not long at all n u can either dine there in the open area or take out. Their milkshakes r really popular n they have all flavors! It's a good change from all the fast food places. A favorite is the breaded teriyaki burger n be sure to get the fries-they give a generous portion of those thicker fries made perfect n always include a big tub of ketchup n Mayo/mustard! I created a Yelp account just to give this restaurant a review. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, I live on Oahu and was just in Maui for some work. I went to eat with some coworkers and immediately regretted the decision, the owner was very rude, rushing us to order food and then when we got it I ended up throwing half of it away and I never waste food. The meat was just mostly the undesirable parts of chicken and pork such as the bones and chunks of fat. Later we all got food poisoning; two of my coworkers were up that night throwing up and I had the runs for the next couple days. There's much better local food with much better service in Maui. was in town for work, my client was really geeked to take me here. As hole in the wall as it gets. Seriously, painted plywood and 2x's. Service was pretty curt - they don't really tell you how to order, or what exactly is being served, and act sort of annoyed when you don't know what to do. I'm glad I went, but my food wasn't amazing. not bad, not amazing. The teriyaki beef was kinda dry and overly sweet, the chicken was very flavorful but, again, dry and tough.
