I fondly remember snacks and lunches from Cupie's after trips to the library, summer school, or whenever we were in the neighborhood. I always ordered the chow fun - a Hawaiian-style dish that I haven't found recreated on the mainland. Wide, flat Chinese egg noodles pan sauteed with soy sauce, scallions, bean sprouts, and spam or hamburger, sometimes with the addition of scrambled egg. A little greasy, infinitely slurpable, and packed in a styrofoam cup. Cupie's is certainly a drive-in - parking outnumbers the cement tables outside the walk-up ordering window. This is DH's local favorite for quick take-out! As for me...meh, I've experienced better! He must eat here at least once whenever we go to Maui for a visit. He usually gets the cheeseburger and fries and their famous "Ketchup Mustard Mayo" sauce whilst I order my usual mini breaded teriyaki with either rice or chow fun (which is usually always on the dry side). Prices are a little on the expensive side as well! I probably would try someplace else but I give in to my husband's liking (and my growing hungry stomach for lunch) since he still kinda have a nostalgic sense of Cupies before it changed owners. read more

I have never left a bad or semi bad review before. I ordered a special plate of their Korean chicken today. I was super excited for their variation on their take on this treat. When I received the order the chicken was raw when picked up. Returned it to the front counter and told her it was undercooked and raw. She told me that sometimes chicken looks that way. I know what raw chicken looks like. She took it back and brought me a new order. The chicken was raw again but didn't want to make a big deal about it so just tried to eat what was semi cooked. It was honestly one of the worst chicken taste wise as well. Like I said I don't usually write bad reviews but I thought you should know don't order chicken products cause it may be raw. Being a born and raised Maui girl, I remember growing up, I used to look forward to coming here after school with my mom and sister to get our shrimp omelet and chow fun fix. As I got older I was able to drive myself here whenever I wanted, anytime of the day during business hours. I used to leave school campus just to have lunch here, and pick up food for my classmates also. LOL, thats how much we loved Cupie's growing up till it was bought out by Bentos and Banquets. I personally think that Cupie's will NEVER be the same as the early 90's. Once the new owners took over EVERYTHING changed. Chowfun, Shrimp Omelet, Breaded Teriyaki, Chop Steak, Grilled Cheese, Mac Salad and more! They have all changed! The taste of the mac salad was very different then what it was. Of course they would change it, because they are new owners. But no one thought that it would COMPLETELY change. I ate there once after they were bought out, and took a bite and tossed out my food! The taste of it just wasn't as appetizing as it used to be. I may sound dramatic about it. But if you knew Cupie's growing up, then you'll understand the taste and flavor that I am talking about. Extra crispy fries with their side ketchup Mayo mustard is a must. Chow fun is really flavorful, don't even need to add shoyu. Cheeseburgers always an easy fix. Their slushies remind me of ono shave ice in a cup. Had the lychee and pog and I can't wait to try more flavors. Went around 1pm and it was slammed. Been craving chow fun for awhile now, the only time I would ever eat chow fun is at the county Fair which I stopped buying since it's expensive and they give you small portions. I was so surprised when the chow fun here is only $6 for the large size and feeds 2 people. read more

First off, since reopening, the restaurant looks and feels so much better. My husband had the breaded Teri plate and I had the Teri burger and French fries. I wanted to try a plate lunch but it's more food than I wanted, and they don't do mini plates, turns out though that it was for the best. The Teri burger was really good and the French fries with mustard mayo & ketchup made me remember old school Cupies. My husbands breaded Teri was a little burnt on one side, and I think because we had heard the hype that it was just like the original, our expectations were a little high and it just didn't hit it. His plate was $11.50 which was kind of pricey, but my burger was $3.50 and fries were $2.00, so I was happy with my meal! We'll be back to try something new the next time. read more

I had a 6 hour delayed flight and found this place. It is fantastic food and even better service. Had the Chow Fun, the roast pork, french fries and the soft serve ice cream and all of what was fantastic. Best soft server I have ever had and it went well with the large order of fries! I can't wait to go again and guarantee the next flight I have through Maui will have lots of extra time so I can eat there again. read more

This review will just be brief. Went to Maui for business trip for one day and didn't have much time to drive around and explore other options. 1. Nice parking lot, enough stalls, but I assume it would fill up as more people come 2. Place is super old and runned down. Kind of scary to know what the back kitchen looks like. 3. Rather dirty, hence #2 above. 4. Cops were eating there, so it has to be a good place, right? 5. Has plenty local favorites (i.e.-teriyaki beef, hamburger steak, teri burger, lau lau, etc. 6. They have daily specials that average in price from $7.19 to $10 depending on the plate. 7. Since I was short on time, I just had a mini kalua pig plate. Came with 2 scoops of rice (I asked for 2-scoops in lieu of a mac salad) and a heaping scoop of kalua pig. Took it back to the office and gave it a try. It was not that bad, though, I have had better. I think there was a little too much smoked flavor added, and still, it was rather not salty. Which is good. But it lacked a balance, IMO. Anyways, if I'm ever on Maui again, I probably would try something else, not saying this is a bad place, but really, not quite a place I'd go out of my way to see again. read more

I love the food here, don't get me wrong. I've been coming here since I was a kid and their breaded teriyaki is always my go to. However it seems like the service has taken a turn for the worse. When I went today, 2 of the workers walked past my car without coming up and asking if I was helped. Mind you I pulled into a stall with a worker right next to it. I looked out the window to see if anyone was coming and I happened to make eye contact with one of the girls. She ended up just flipping her hair and turning around. Then when someone finally did come up to take my order, other workers came up to the person and started talking story. I wasn't even done ordering! I wish I could say this is the first time it happened, but nope. It happened the last time I was there maybe a month ago and that time I just opted to leave instead of wait. Seems like it's better to call in your order since that's the only customers they seem attentive to. read more

When we heard Cupies was coming back, it brought back nostalgic thoughts of small kid time, when our parents used to take us to Cupies for some breaded teriyaki. Fast forward a couple of decades and we get to finally have some of their breaded teriy again. For the most part, it's as good as it used to be, although it seems we always get a thicker, tough piece every time we order something with breaded teri in it, whether it be the plate, or the sandwich, or the breaded teri melt. And tough as in, no can eat um. Other than that, everything else we've tried have been great. Love the fries, it seems they're endless when we keep reaching into the bag. The burgers are good too. We tried the chow fun once and there was too much ginger in it for our taste. The ube shake was good and the twist cone hit the spot on a hot day. We'll definitely be back, but will try some other things other than the breaded teri. We're glad they reopened, as you can only go to the fast food spots in Kahului so many times. read more

Wanted to try out the new Cupie's. Ordered the hamburger steak plate, breaded teriyaki sandwich and French fries. Hamburger steak was recommended by someone and in my opinion it is my measure of a good drive in. Positives: value was comparable to other places, portions were generous, gravy was good, breaded teriyaki was tasty and fries were great (fat crinkle style serve with mustard and ketchup and hot). Negatives: except for the fries everything was room temperature. Gravy was lukewarm, hamburgers were dry and rubbery and rice was room temperature and a little hard. Teriyaki was room temperature. Might go back to try something else but think we will wait awhile. read more

I love how they rip people off by coloring over the 99 cents on the can of Arizona green teas and charge over $2!!!! I don't understand the door system. Why not use that one door as the entrance since the order line begins there and use the other doors as the exit. I was very disappointed with my lunch today! Ordered a teriyaki beef plate and small chow fun. The teriyaki was like beef jerky, the mac salad was on the verge of being spoiled and the chow fun was way overcooked. My first 2 visits were ok but today's meal will take me a long time to forget. This is why businesses fail...lack of quality control and inconsistancy. Even though the customer service is excellent (that's why I gave this review 2 stars) I have a hard time getting past the poor quality of the food that I paid for. Please owners...learn from this complaint and keep on top of yout staff to serve a quality product that makes me want to come back! read more
