We came an hour after their brunch menu had stopped but they had an in between menu that we were able to order from. Both my partner and I ordered 2 of their specialty drinks. They were both super good. We also ordered the coffee chicken strips and the Vietnamese ribs with potato wedge fries. The chicken was so good - it also came with 3 dipping sauces that we're all super good. (Especially the burger sauce and their home made ranch) the ribs were also so good. The meat from the ribs practically falls right off the bone and was had so much flavor and seasoning to it. The outdoor seating area was really nice. Great atmosphere, lackluster food. Price was fine. Throughout the night, I ordered a burger, chicken strips and the stuffed mushrooms. The burger was standard, ordered it medium, but came out more of the rare side. Honestly the best part of the burger was the bun (and I usually don't eat most of the bun). I was devastated over the chicken strips. Who on this planet uses dark meat chicken for chick strips?!?! There were weird bits and I was so not a fan I couldn't even eat it most of it. I picked out the white meat bits as best I could and then eventually gave it to my dog after I picked off all the breading. The stuffed mushroom were alright. I came here for SF Restaurant Week. We made a reservation and, although we came a little late, they were able to seat us right away. They only had outdoor seating but it was super cute. Also the live music was a great touch to the atmosphere. The service was good. There was really only one guy servicing our area but he was pretty efficient. He was good at noticing when tables were in need of something. We came a pretty hungry so we got our drinks and our food order in at the same time. I ended up doing the SF restaurant week special which was a salad, entree, and dessert for $30. I also added in a glass of Malbec. For my salad, I got the papaya salad. I was surprised that it was a full sized salad. I thought that they might make it smaller for the restaurant week deal. Taste-wise, it was very good! It was a classic southeast asian papaya salad. For my entree, I got the americana burger. I really liked that they put the pickles, lettuce, and onions on the side for customers to choose what they want inside their burger. The burger was cooked exactly like I asked - medium. The sauce was very tasty. The dessert was a chocolate brulee with an all-spice cookie on the side. This was soo good! I loved that it had a deep chocolate flavor but it wasn't too sweet. The sugar crust on top was great and a good thickness. I really liked the all-spice cookie as well. It was a good spice level. We also got the truffle mac-n-cheese and the bread pudding for the table. The truffle mac was so good. The truffle flavor was definitely present but not overpowering. The bread pudding came out warm and very delicious. I thought it came with ice cream but it ended up being a whipped cream. String lights hang above their glorious patio overlooking Valencia Street, which is where we sat for Saturday brunch. Curio's ambiance put me under their spell; I look forward to spending a romantic dinner here one evening soon. I decided to indulge in their Southern-inspired menu items. The hushpuppies ($12) had bits of shrimp & corn, & the accompanying sweet chili butter was flavor on top of flavor. We shared a side of grits($4), which was warm & delicious. Loved their Buttermilk Biscuit Benedict($15), although I substituted bacon for their maple sausage. Topped with a poached egg, collards, & jalapeño hollandaise, a nice mix of richness & tanginess hits your tongue with every bite. A couple downsides, which irritated my friend greatly, so I thought I'd address them: I'm not sure why we received our main dishes so much later than tables who had ordered after us. Also, they were out of many items my friend wanted to order -- brussel sprouts (almost out of season) & the Impossible burger (which would've disappointed me, as well, if I'd come here just for that.) Waiter, don't leave your customers hangin' if their food is delayed; a simple, "Your food will be out in 5" would've sufficed, & please inform your table of any changes to the menu as soon as they're seated so they can choose accordingly. Absolutely speechless... I wish I could give this place zero stars. We got seated and the waiter comes over and we decided to order drinks and he tells us, "are you sure you need another drink? We talked to someone clearly posing as the GM and she stated that "multiple" people said something to her and the bar manager and that's why they decided to not serve us. The bar manager came to our table and decided to tell us that they made too quick of a judgement and the first round of drinks are on them. They would not answer any questions about discrimination. Our table was pretty diverse... Persian, Jewish, Chinese, and Italian. Super surprising because the table next to us was a bachelorette party and they had bottles and bottles of rosè and champagne but they were still allowed to order. My friend was visiting from out of town and I was so excited to come here with friends to grab a bite and drinks. I am absolutely shocked that we got treated like this. I will NEVER come back here. Came here with a friend of mine to check out a brunch spot! Magically amazing brunch or dinner spot left my "curio"-sity hanging! Why have I not heard about this place until now? They have indoor and outdoor seating but we opted for the outdoor patio area which had heated lamps and plenty of natural light to enjoy our meal. Our server was absolutely fantastic and asked us if we needed any recommendations but after reviewing the menu, we concluded what we wanted to try. Below are the following... Cinnamon Babka French Toast 10/10: the toast was a thick french toast filled with a good amount of coated cinnamon, sugar, mascarpone, apple jam which sort of tasted like hot apple pie, spiced walnuts, and cider vinegar syrup. This toast alone was absolutely fire! So rich and creamy from the mascarpone but the combination of everything from one bite was to die for! One of my favorite dishes we had ordered. Buttermilk Biscuit Benedict 9/10: the rich and savory poached eggs, collard greens, 4505 maple sausage, and jalapeño hollandaise sauce was amazing! Perfectly balanced with the collard greens and the sausage made this dish with the eggs which was a delite. After a couple of bites, I did think it was too heavy for my taste but still way too good! Shrimp and Cheddar Grits 8/10: this dish tasted a bit flat for my tastebuds. I wasn't completely wow'ed by it. I thought it was just okay or something was missing. Nonetheless, this dish helped after eating between something super heavy like the benedict and the french toast but the wild gulf shrimp, 6 minute egg, tasso ham gravy, and tomato relish did help balance out the food. Side of 4505 bacon 10/10: you can't go wrong with bacon. Especially when it's from 4505!!! I didn't know this was part of their menu but so glad they carry yummy pork bacon!!! Overall, the ambiance was just what we were looking for and open outdoor dining is my favorite since they also add a covering during cold and rainy days but still bring in some great lighting. The indoor dining area was much sparse as it was pretty dark but that's because they offer late night dinner and open mic nights for entertainment. So I can understand the dark brooding interior. This place just isn't for me. I came here for a weekend brunch knowing it would be boring brunch food but was hopeful that it would be a fun outdoor space to enjoy during the gorgeous weekend we recently had. Unfortunately, the outdoor service was slow, the menu lacking and the food wasn't on par with the surrounding Mission restaurants. I started out with a bottomless mimosa but quickly found the bottom as service was unattentive. The mimosas themselves were too heavy on the orange juice and I would prefer if they just put a carafe on the table for self-service considering the pandemic. Having a carafe go table to table touching each person's glass is kind of gross during the pandemic. I cancelled the bottomless mimosa as soon as possible in favor of a frozen mango margarita, which I must admit was great and hit the spot on a warm day. I split a burger, which looked like the only decent item on their brunch menu. The burger was pretty good and I especially liked the potato chip bun but for the price with bacon added, I would have rather gone to Super Duper. I probably wouldn't go here again. I've been to Curio a couple of times now and I have to say I really like it. The ambiance is super chill and I LOVE the decor. It's an awesome spot before a show at The Chapel as well since it is literally right next door. Curio's Witching Hour is awesome (Witching Hour is Happy Hour). $1 Oysters, $3 Mac and Cheese, and $2 Deviled Eggs. Really they had me at $1 oysters, I am a sucker for a buck a shuck, especially here in SF. I also had one of the Witches Brew $8 cocktails, it is always a surprise concoction that changes week by week. Last week's was sweet and fruity with a deceptive amount of alcohol in it, definitely packed a punch. I also ordered a Mermaid which is probably my favorite ever. The Jackalope is one of the best cocktails I have ever had in the city! Not too sweet, but very fruity and refreshing. It may be my go-to when I return. They have a great outdoor set up, especially on the days when Valencia is closed off to cars. I got the French toast that was topped with strawberry jam, strawberries and mint. The mascarpone whipped cream was really delicious. We have been before but not since covid started. We finally decided to try and out our name in and we were actually seated pretty much right away for 2 people! After my first experience here recently to celebrate our beloved Elena's birthday, I will say that this new'ish restaurant(opened during the summer) has a fantastic and beautiful space and the food(at least brunch and being on a restricted diet) is closer to 3.5 stars for me. Our party was seated in the patio and once they opened the motorized shade above our heads, the warmth from the sun felt great. Yes, it was actually sunny on this day in San Francisco. The table ordered several apps to share, including the Fried Burrata, the Deviled eggs, and the Corn Hush Puppies. Due to my dietary restrictions, I could not try any of these but the table all enjoyed these starters. For my first meal of the day, I went with the Hangover Curio plate, which gives you the choice of eggs cooked to your liking, breakfast potatoes, and bacon, maple sausage, or smoked pancetta. I of course went with the bacon. It also came with a side salad This hearty brunch plate was filling and tasted fresh enough, and not too greasy. I washed it all down with a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. It definitely was fresh and refreshing. Something that bothered me, they automatically charge a 20%(not 18% like I have seen) gratuity, in addition to the other service charge, which we essentially subsidize their health care. If you like a good happy hour and outdoor patio, Curio is a great spot to check out! I decided to stop by here because their Witching Hour caught my eye - $1 Oysters, $3 Mac and Cheese, $2 Deviled Eggs, and more?! I went for half a dozen oysters and an order of mac and cheese. The oysters came in a beautifully presented platter adorned with seaweed. They were decently-sized, slid right out smoothly, and I barely tasted any brine! I was expecting the Mac n Cheese to be a small bowl, but it was actually 3 fried balls of mac and cheese that came with a red sauce. They tasted delicious and had good cheesy flavor. I also decided to try the $8 Witches Brew, which was a Pirate's Rum that night. I enjoyed this cocktail as it was sweet and fruity. The service here was great. Short visit to SF for LDW, most places close around 8/9 so it was great to find a restaurant that was open till 11 (kitchen closed at 10). The wait was a bit long, about 20 to 30 minutes, but food and drinks were well worth it. We ordered the Americana burger, the truffled mac&cheese, and Mango Margaritas. Everything was so delicious--and food came out fairly quickly. The size proportions are actually normal, not ginormous dishes. Others at the table ordered jackalope, braised ribs, and the broccoli slaw--I heard no complaints only praise. I will definitely be back to try other dishes an cocktails on my next visit to SF. They have ample seating, some in the front and more outback. The inside was an open layout, so technically covid safe. A few complaints about the general restaurant, the ladies bathroom was pretty filty, overflowing trash, napkins everywhere etc. And our server's (although he was extremely nice) his mask wasn't completely on, it did not cover his nose. Curio is a local favorite for cocktails/local DJ sets, but I was really pleased with the experience of renting this place out for my birthday. I was able to book for a Saturday night, brought my own DJ (paid them for speakers), and make my own specialty cocktail while also getting bites served from Curio. This is a brand new spot in the Mission District and my girlfriends and I just happened to stumble upon it one Saturday night. We were walking by and one of us noticed something had changed. We were intrigued so walked in and chatted with the hostess who explained that it was their first night open since opening as a new restaurant/bar. After we each had time to explore their cocktail menu, we placed our orders. We shared a plate of their herbed truffle steak fries and we each got a drink. I decided on the Leprechaun and it included gin, apple, tarragon, lemon, pineapple, and a few other ingredients. It didn't take long for our drinks and snack to join us at the table and we all dove right in. My drink was refreshing, light, and the flavors were subtle. The rest of the table enjoyed their drinks as well. We all passed them around to share some sips and we were all very happy with the creations we received. The steak fries were also perfect. We really enjoyed the various dipping sauces that came with them. The tomato jam was gone first so it was obviously the favorite. Overall it was good-- the eggs and potatoes were tasty, but the smoked procuitto was too crispy for my liking and the salad was just big leaves that I needed to use my knife in order to eat. The Karens have descended. I used to love this place pre-covid; but, with options being so few elsewhere and the already spacious patio being amplified by the Valencia street closure...it's become a mecca for glittery halter tops and vapid "sex and the city" references. Ew. This invasion is exasperated by the parking lot attendant managing the line to get in - he clearly has an affinity for Karens, so if you're a member of the neighborhood's previous regular crew, expect to wait longer than the entitled fake-fendi-carriers who think lines don't apply to them. The manager is nice and she does what she can to mitigate this new vibe, but she can't be everywhere and in my most recent visit on Thursday the 24th she was overruled (in her assurance my date and I were next to be seated) by the previously mentioned parking lot attendant. I'll return to Curio when/if the infestation disperses. read more
