Quick and easy. I decided to try and upgrade my radio, only to end up breaking it. After trying to go radio free for a week, I quickly caved and drove around to get a few quotes on radios. After visiting two other related store, Custom Sounds and Tint came in at a rate that wasn't even close. I was able to schedule out my appointment about a week out and get it all knocked out quickly. I already knew what radio I wanted, which they had it in stock but they do have a nice selection if you aren't too sure. Second update: 4 years later, we discovered that the cause of an intermittent power door lock failure was .... you guessed it, poor installation by Custom Sounds. They left unprotected wires lying over the foot brake mechanism. No wire ties, no protective cover, nothing. We hardly ever use the footbrake. But we must have because those small naked wires were damaged. It took us years to find because we were only inspecting the Ford components, not the alarm. I suggest that you choose another shop to install anything on your vehicle. These guys are butchers. read more

We got exceptional consulting as to which model would meet our needs to make things even better. They were able to install it quicker than they originally committed and at a price that was within our budget. Yesterday (Jan 3, 2017) I had Custom Sounds on Research install a MESA 4405M Remote Car Starter (w/2 FOBs). While I had made the appointment over a week in advance, somehow it went into their system for their Pflugerville store. No worries, Tyler was on the job and still got my 2016 4Runner in that day for the install. Truck was ready by 4:30 PM. Tyler gave us the full run down on how the remote start works and is idiosyncrasies. While there Tyler took a few extra minutes to look at the radio in my wife's car where he identified a bad fuse which I had missed. He still did not fucking order the part that I need for this install after coming in last Friday wasting my time and gas sitting there for almost 2 hours to tell me that he hadn't ordered the part! I called the store today and they said nothing had still been ordered what the fuck hunter are you kidding me? Some guy who is watching the store had to finally put an order in and it's going to take another 7 days before it even gets to the store. I'm so fucking mad right now. I've never had this much trouble after spending over $550 and another $450 install fee. The guy said I could order the part and he would give me the part number...I probably should have just done that but let's see if they will actually order the part. I want to speak to higher management about this situation. Spoke to Nathan Last weekend Saturday (06/15/2019). I had enquired about their Tint. I asked if if he could setup an appointment,?Nathan said he had 2 spots open for for Next week Saturday 06/22/2019 and if I can Drop it off at 10:00. I agreed with the appointment. Dropped off my my vehicle as asked at 10:00 this morning, thinking it should be done around 2:00 P.M. . So I decided to call at 3:15 and check on my vehicle status. No one answered the phone. So I called another 3x and still no answer. So I gave them sometime thinking that their busy. So I called again at 3:38 and Spoke to Nathan. I asked what is the status on my vehicle, if it's been worked on or in the process. Nathan said it's not yet been worked on so he said he was going to ask the technician if he'll get on it today and call me back. Not expecting "BAD NEWS" when Nathan called me back saying that they won't be able to do the work today and if I wanted to reschedule. I said " RESCHEDULE! THATS RIDICULOUS! I CALLED LAST WEEK AND YOU SAID YOU HAD 2 SPOTS OPEN"!!!! Why would you book my vehicle as not do it or complete. This place is a complete joke!!!! This ain't my first tint I had on a vehicle bro!!! 10/10 customer service, every employee I talked to was very helpful and they provided exllecent communication between them and the customers. 10/10 on installation, I brought in a messy project and a safe to say a difficult task and when I saw the final product I was pretty blown away. BEYOND overpriced. Labor for radio and front and rear speakers- $375! Let's just say the installer is a half-wit and it takes him 3 full hours to install. That's $125/hour! Of course, the employees I saw looked about 17 years old so it may very well have taken 5 hours. I emailed them prior to my installation appointment to ask about price matching, I got a reply saying that they would get back to me. They did not. But they did call me to remind me of my appointment. WTF. I knew they would be a little bit overpriced, but I went because Best Buy didn't have great reviews on their audio installation department. But it turns out that Best Buy had amazing prices, customer service was incredible, and the installer got it done in 2 hours and did an amazing job. I have purchased several things from custom sounds over the years and the experiences have gotten consistently worse each time. Last week was the final straw. I went to bring a friend's car in for window tint as a gift since they were offering a $129 special. I arrived on a Wednesday around 10am and there was one other customer there. The person working did not acknowledge me at all. Not even a "hi I'll be right with you." I waited for literally twenty minutes. I can not stress this enough. I waited twenty minutes for him to even say hello, and then it was only because he finished helping the other person. After telling him that I wanted to get the tint special he began trying the hard sell on me. He told me repeatedly how terrible the product is and that I'm making a terrible choice getting it. This did not stop throughout the whole process. Keep in mind that the next step up was more than double the cost and this was a gift, so I could not afford to increase my budget by an additional $150. Finally after completing the sale he called another location to confirm that my appointment was set for Saturday at ten am. I left in a bad mood but got over it quickly. I arrived Saturday morning and the same thing happened. I walked in ready to just drop off the keys and found myself waiting for half an hour to be helped or even acknowledged. Finally the one person working on a Saturday morning acknowledged me, which pissed off another lady who had been there waiting longer than me. She was experiencing the same disrespect and decided to leave. So I told the guy that I was there to simply drop the car off for tint. He then told me that there was no tinter available today, which of course pissed me off. I began arguing with him as he tried to reschedule me to a day during the week. It was not until I said I wanted a refund that he finally called the other location and got a window tinter to come over to do the car. The tint job looks like any other cheap tint job, not bad but not great. but the customer service is some of the worst I have experienced in Austin. I cannot stress enough how awful this place is and how terrible they treat customers. I will absolutely never spend another minute of my time or a dime of my money supporting this business, and I recommend anyone reading this to avoid the place like the plague. read more

Went over to this place in my father's 1964 Ford Falcon because I wanted to add an amp to the sound system. My father. who was killed in a car accident January 10th of this year, rebuilt the car (an some other classics) from frame and put in a okay sound system that I am going to upgrade. Previously, me and a helper pulled the deck in order to figure out why a speaker in the back was not working. After we pulled it we were not able to figure out how my father had been powering the deck and wanted help from this Custom Sounds-- plus I wanted to buy an amp and maybe a sub... and who knows what else... I showed the clerk up front the car and the deck, and he showed no interest in the car or helping me understand the sound system, or anything I guess. All he did was barely answer my questions about amps... Maybe his lunch was getting cold in the back but I was shocked that someone who works with cars didn't give a shit and apparently didn't want to help or thought a guy riding around in a 30k dollar classic car wanted to rip him off for 15 minutes of labor or something... what an A$$! I ended up just leaving feeling frustrated because the one guy upfront treated me like I was trying to rip him off and he obviously didn't care about the car, me or the sale. I would not recommenced going to this place if you, like me, love cars and car audio and want to enjoy and experience with like-minded people-- you won't find them at Custom Sounds on Research. Bad experience and I will not go back. And so much for trying to find a sound shop in my neighborhood. Went to Capital Kustoms the same day, they were closed on a Saturday afternoon! Had my new ride tinted and satellite radio installed. Believe me, I was staring down an 8 hour trip to Lousyana and I needed tunes desperately. Hubby and I found the guys at CS to be very knowledgeable, helpful, and timely. They installed my new satellite radio in a compartment that is hidden to the public and hooked up an mp3 outlet in my console so I could escape with my Maxwell all Thanksgiving. And they did all this in 5 hrs, even staying open after hours to get it done. Jacob is one of the techs and informed us that the install had in fact been trickier than originally quoted for but he kept his word and the deal we made with him. I recently visited this location to see if they carried an adapter for the factory wires for a CD player I was putting in my work truck. As soon as i walked in and mentioned what I was looking for, the guy working there ( I think his name was Justin) says, Kenwood deck for a Ford. I was blown away that he knew that just looking at a cluster of wires! He went to the back and came out with the adapter I needed, and I was in the store for maybe 10 minutes total. It was great to not spend alot of time trying to explain what I needed and to get in and out with it. NICE! read more

Went to this place to have a stereo installed that I already paid for they said it would only take 1 hour and not having any other ride i figured I'd stick around and wait it ended up taking 8 hrs and the station wasn't flush as well it was cockeyed, also serious XM kit that i also already had purchased was also not installed. I went by the store on my way home to make an appointment and drop off the keys. Nope, there is "paperwork" I have to fill out and it can only be filled out when I drop off the car during business hours (10-7). Then, the phone rings and I'm subjected to abusive language while the counter guy deals with an employee who won't show up for work. A more customer-friendly check-in/check-out process and more professionalism in the store (don't answer the phone while I'm at the counter giving you my business) would have earned five stars. Clinton, the manager is incredibly knowledgeable about current products and has a knack for the space and the right sound per vehicle. Instead of the easy up-sale, he directed me to a smaller sub setup in my big truck. At first, I was hesitant to pull the trigger but he dumbed it down for me in a tactful way that made it very easy for me to see/hear the difference. I'm glad I went to the Research store and glad I listened to him. The result, my truck sounds great...just the right amount of bass! Tyler and Joe are amazing guys, and I recommend anyone looking for a sound system or an install to go here above anywhere else. I was originally scheduled for an install at another location, and the installer gave me a hard time about what I wanted done. The truck was looked over, all the parts were quoted, and I showed up for my appointment, and was told "no, I don't want to do that". So after speaking with a manger, I got an appointment to have my install done at this location. They had me in the very next day, and did such an amazing job. Tyler and Joe listened to exactly what I wanted, and got the install done right!!! They were even nice enough to ask my if I wanted to be included on their lunch order they were getting delivered since the install was going to take all day. I couldn't be happier with my truck, which is now completed, after an extremely professional installation was done. The work I had done to my Camaro has turned out to be a nightmare!!! It takes a LOT for me to post a negative review about a company but after spending over $4500 to have WATER DAMAGE all throughout the trunk of my car, I feel obligated to warn others! Part of the install was a custom sub box which was paneled off through the trunk entrance. That, in addition to the amp and wiring, ended up taking up my entire trunk space, which I didn't mind initially... But after some time i noticed the sound quality of the system starting to diminish. Went ahead and unbolted the enclosure to evaluate only to find that the placement of the box had knocked apart the sunroof drain hose, allowing water to flow into the trunk and damage the sub box, RCA's, rust my spare wheel well, and potentially the subwoofer itself from the box moisture. I decided to look at the rest of the system and noticed how poorly mounted the tweeters were as well as how unprofessional and poor quality the install is as a whole behind the "glitz and glamour" (wires hanging, electrical tape everywhere). I can't be more angry/disappointed about this place. A few months ago my stock radio started bugging and went out, so I stopped by to take a look at what they had as far as head units. The selection wasn't too bad as far as features go, but they only had two brands and no double DIN units. I was talking to the sales person, who was helpful as far as the head units go, but once we started going to what car I had and installation, he starts to mention how he test drove the vehicle and how much he didn't like it. So my first visit to this place wasn't starting out well. I went ahead and asked for an estimate. We went through the list of features that would be installed and I got estimates on each installed feature, and it came out to about $250. Not bad at all really, but I was still a bit sore about the service so far so I looked at a few other places. I ended up making an appointment here, but ended up cancelling (my dog had to have surgery). Three months later, I make another appointment, show up and as we start going over everything it starts to add up close to $600, plus tax! How could an estimate be so far off from the actual price? Well as it turns out, they only gave me the price of the harnesses and adaptors without the labor for installation. Apparently the cost of installing a part is essentially 100-200% of the actual part thats needed. Definetely not going to happen. On my way home I pass by a place I hadn't seen before not a mile away from Custom sounds. I call and get an estimate, making sure that parts and labor were included, $350. Custom sounds is a ripoff, I will never be returning here and will tell anyone I know that is changing their system to STAY AWAY. read more
