My mom wanted us to go out for a fun mother-daughter dinner "just because" this evening (how wonderful it is to be loved!). When she asked me to go to dinner yesterday and I agreed, she said she'd find something fun and suggested Cuts - which I questioned since she's recently committed to a more vegetarian/pescatarian diet. She assured me that the menu looked good to her and she wanted to buy me a steak to celebrate my accomplishments this year. I pass Cuts almost every day because I work just a few blocks down. It is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, specifically on the main drag of Peachtree St./Peachtree Ctr. Ave. frequented by attendees of the many conferences held in our wonderful city. Given my familiarity with the locale and surrounding eateries, I understand why certain establishments boast more general/fan favorites to appeal to a variety of customers - but still have concerns that the food may be so inoffensive to the palate of the general public that me and mine may find it bland because of how spoiled we are in the international cuisine Mecca that is Metro Atlanta. THAT BEING SAID, the food we ordered at Cuts was prepared with a technical perfection that I was not ready for. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully tender on the inside. They were topped with a mild goat cheese that did not overpower the flavor of the tomato, along with diced tomato and green onion. They were not greasy at all and just needed one dash of salt to be the perfect pretext to our meal. We also ordered the tuna tartare, which was comprised of beautifully fresh tuna and avocado, and accompanied by house made Idaho potato chips that were all uniformly large enough to get a satisfying scoop of the tartare. Entree-wise, mom got the salmon and creamy cauliflower, which she really enjoyed - BUT WHO CARES, y'all wanna know about the STEAK!!! I got the delmonico cut, crab oscar style, medium rare. I've been to just about every steakhouse in and around the city, and that steak has kept my mouth watering since we left the restaurant. It was cooked to absolute perfection, not too smothered in sauce, with an incredible crust - not a char. The medium rare was a true medium rare: warm pink edges with a cool red center. Don't get me wrong, I'll take and love a bloody blue or plain ole rare - but when you get that med-rare to a tee that cuts like butter? Few things compare, and my experiences with the popular, "staple" ATL steak joints have rarely delivered such a perfect sear and internal temp. We ended the meal with a delicious, simple little crème brûlée and delectable espresso martinis. HOWEVER, I've saved the best part of our meal for last. Our service was unmatched, which is not uncommon for all the good folks I've come to know and love at the places on and around downtown Peachtree St/Ave that feed me on a regular basis. Our server (and hopefully future best friend?) Alphonso was just a delight! He ensured that we were happy from the time we took our first sips of initial cocktails to our last spoonful of dessert. He recommended the delmonico cut to me, which was a delish venture out of my comfort zone! He kept the wine flowing, joked with us, and just made us feel so welcome and cared for. He was also assisted by the lovely Terik - who we fell in love with immediately, as she was armed with fresh bread and herbed butter when she approached our table less than 3 minutes after we sat down. When Alphonso was making sure all of his other tables were cared for, we wanted for nothing since Terik was right there to ensure our dining experience had everything we needed and then some! I cannot stress how fantastic these two were - just such a phenomenal meal that felt so personally curated due to their attention to detail. Seriously, if Alphonso is your guy at Cuts, get ready for personalized and attentive service like you've never had. That man can spot a half empty wine glass from 200 yards and he WILL rush over to refill your glass with a charming quip and hawk-like scan of your table to evaluate if anything is not up to par. I had a business lunch with a coworker that I was planning for a late lunch time.., like 1:30 or 2. I asked what he wanted and he said steak. Well I figured that would be easy. He was finishing up a meeting near the airport and I would just pick him up and go to a steakhouse in Atlanta. Funny thing is most of the "good" or at least highly rated steak places in Atlanta don't open until 5pm. I search and searched and found a couple that opened for lunch but they did not have great reviews. Eventually I settled on what I thought would be the best out of the limited options...Cuts Steakhouse. When we got there parking was an issue. It is all paid lots or paid garages. There is a garage basically right across the street just before you get to Cuts on the left of the one way street. That is the easiest place to get to that is covered. When we walked into cuts I was a bit surprised... it kind of reminded me of a vintage Vegas Steak places that you see in movies from the early 80s. They seriously need an update in here. However there were several tables of people already here so I at least felt comforted that this had to be ok. The menu is limited.. a couple of meat options, some sandwiches, a salad or two, and the usual straight up reg steak place type offerings. No exotic choices, no living on the edge culinary experiences, no marvelously different flavor profiles. Heck the menus looked like they were 20 years old too. My coworker order a wedge salad with a 14oz ribeye steak medium.. I got the steak sandwich medium rare with fries. The wedge came out and it was like a half of a head of iceberg lettuce! Loaded with blue cheese crumbles, bacon bits, and swimming in dressing... it was a meal all on its own. He finished about half. The meals came out and my steak sandwich kind of looked like it came from subway. Smothered in cheese and mushrooms it was a good sized meal that in the end tasted pretty good and which I could not finish. The fries were crispy parmesan fries that were ok... not great but ok. My coworkers steak was huge... cooked right and from what he said it was good. Obviously so because he finished every bite! Our service was good... he was a bit hard to understand but we was patient, diligent (accept for when it came to filling the water glasses... that lacked and the glasses were small), and generally a decent waiter. My experience was good... it wasn't the best place I have been too but it was good... the prices were what I expected... I expected them to be on the high side and they were. I set up reservations via open table & there were many stipulations and penalties for large parties including mandatory gratuity & cancellation fees so a credit card was needed on file. We visited on a Wednesday evening, a party of 13 for a surprise birthday dinner for my mom. The ambiance is cool, dim lighting, spacious and many different dining areas to give different vibes throughout. The dining area closest to the entrance has more open concept and higher ceiling than the rear where we were seated. There service was just okay, we were running behind so the server seemed a bit impatient. We arrived 30 minutes late but some of the party had already been seated for the surprise. The server did not do a great job at explaining specials, wines or etc. He seemed a bit checked to be honest & in a hurry. My husband and I had the goat cheese risotto fritters, sesame seared tuna to start. The fritters were tasty but the tuna was not impressive. For mains we ordered the herb roasted chicken & the ribeye with a side of garlic mashed & fried lobster tail. The steak was supposed to be medium well but it was lacking the outer char with moist center. It was almost "wet". It was not flavorful or juicy. Our waiter was so friendly, he shared many of his stories from his homeland (Turkey) with us and recommended some of his favorite dishes on the menu. The lighting, the seating, the flooring, everything was spot on. Even the bathrooms were sexy! I could go on and on about their decor, but let's get into the food. That Ponzu Salmon was absolutely beautiful, it was so well cooked and the veggies and rice noodles were perfectly paired. My boyfriend had the lamb chops, I couldn't help myself and I'm glad I got a bite before his plate was cleaned! They were so tender and juicy! Perhaps we caught them on an off night or skeleton crew from the weather but they got several orders incorrectly and never brought my partner's second glass of wine. Our main waiter was extremely professional and polished, however. The atmosphere of the restaurant is bizarrely eclectic where it's quasi steakhouse, but quasi Ikea brunch restaurant but just feels like they're going through an identity crisis. The meals are certainly decent and while I wouldn't say the meal was fully disappointing, for the type of atmosphere and price point they're shooting for, they have more concepts to flesh out. The restaurant was quiet and I sat at the bar as everyone was busily preparing for dinner service that would start a couple of hours. I ordered the Cuts signature steak burger and cilantro garlic fries. Hailey was behind the bar and her service was exceptional. She greeted me and explained the menu while getting me a soda water. I also observed her make some excellent wine recommendations to another couple who were also seated at the bar and was impressed at the level of care she took in offering appropriate pairings. The burger was cooked perfectly medium and the fries were delicious! The burger had fresh toppings which is a plus but was a bit under-seasoned; however, nothing a couple of condiments wouldn't rectify. Hailey was on top of offering them, explaining that they do not add any to the burgers. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price and overall quality. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. The ambiance was quiet and very comfortable. Overall this is a great location and a nice place to grab a bite to eat while downtown. Do be aware that this place is known to get very busy in the evenings so a reservation for a table is necessary for dinner service. Also, there is an automatic 18% gratuity attached to the bill, certainly you can, and should add more, as Georgia doesn't pay waitstaff like they should and great service deserves a great tip! read more

We were in Atlanta for a Conference and it was our anniversary on that Sat. But our conference was not allowing us to celebrate. So, we decided on our arrival to Atlanta Thursday we would go out to eat that evening: In traveling we did not eat lunch and had crossed into an Eastern time zone which entailed us entering the restaurant a few Minutes before 5 pm. At this time of Day on a weeknight it was Fairly quiet with only a couple other tables being waited on. This restaurant is just a block up a hill from the Sheraton Hotel we were staying at. It is also on a street with many other eating establishments. Masks were required and there was a sign on the entry door to sanitize your hands with the provided hand sanitizer before entering. Once inside we were promptly greeted by a hostess and seated. Our assigned server was Friendly and attentive throughout our stay. Our meals came out hot and fast. FOOD A bread basket arrived with 3 buns and a whipped spread. I use the word spread because coming from WI I know it was not butter and it lacked a defining taste. The buns were small squares of goodness. We also ordered a peach lemonade that was refreshing and you could really taste the peach. We did not order an appetizer because we knew we were already going to leave with a takeout box. Ribs with French fries - the pork ribs were falling off the bone delicious with a not too sweet and spicy bbq sauce. The French fries were coated in a garlic seasoning and were a crispy delight. Cuts ribeye with loaded mashed potatoes-the ribeye was super tender and cooked the perfect medium I asked for. This dish comes with garlic mashed and the server asked if I wanted to upgrade them to a loaded mashed potato which I did. They were good with garlic, bacon and a white melted cheese on top. If you want any other salad or sides they are alacart. We packed up some leftovers and split an apple Cobbler for dessert that was drizzled with Carmel and chopped pecans with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I am glad we saved room for dessert as this was a nice tasty treat. Paying for our bill was simple as they automatically add on a 20% tip which is the minimum we usually tip so no figuring it out. As we exited the restaurant the hostess faired us a good day and a gentleman who just sat down on the couch across from the hostess station and looked like he may have been a manager, thanked us for coming. We had a large party and were waited on by Najee and Leilani and they were both fabulous! Attentive, Honest, Quick and a nice addition to our great dinner.
