You will not be disappointed if you want to fill up at an affordable price for Poipu area. Chipotle style ordering system where you pick your protein and toppings. One burrito will feed two adults so order accordingly so food is not wasted. I did not find it to be a high quality Mexican place - the carne asada had a very strong cumin taste which made it less appetizing and the cut of the meat was not great. Decided to hang out at the condo for the day, and picked Da Crack for some carry out lunch. Very simple menu, and reasonably priced (in Hawaiian terms!). My wife did a veggie bowl, and said it was so-so. I did a chicken burrito, which was very good. Also added a side of chips n guacamole, which were average. What da crack?! How can something made without lard, hydrogenated oils, MSG taste SO GOOD? Da Crack may've mastered the art of clean cooking. They only use Hawaiian seas salt, locally caught fish, house made chicken stock to flavor their rice and "natural" never artificial seasonings. Their black beans maybe vegan, but it tastes great. The fish is very lightly battered, some cheese and toppings are put on it. $12.99 for 2 fish tacos may seem like San Francisco prices, but you'll be fully satisfied from your meal here that you wouldn't even go to McDonald's after. Unbelievably good Mexican food in Kauai! I was prepared to be disappointed but I was willing to give it a try. I'm so glad we did. We had the tacos both beef & chicken. The chicken was delicious and the beef was great too. The black beans and pinto beans were great as well as the rice. Salsa was fantastic. I am from Texas and know good Mexican food, this was great! Disclaimer regarding food on Kauai...don't expect authetic mexican food because it doesn't exist here. This is not a dig on the island just a simple fact. We ordered guacamole & chips, a carne asada burrito and a chicken burrito. The flavor was a bit bland and their (hot) salsa was a tad tangy...overall average. The best Mexican food we have ever had!!! (and I'm from California) We ordered online and by the time we arrived, our food was ready and piping hot. Very reasonably priced for such amazing food (considering everywhere else on the island is very expensive.) Similar to the review I wrote last time, the concept is still the same. You order at the window and wait at the side window to pick up your food. The vibe is very casual and friendly with a focus on foods without MSG ,etc. They also accept credit cards. I ended up getting a garlic shrimp burrito with Mexican rice (brown rice cooked in chicken stock), cheese, sour cream, cabbage, and pico de gallo. My husband ordered a burrito with ahi, Mexican rice, cheese, sour cream, cabbage, and mild salsa. As a native Californian, the allure of Mexican food is as inescapable as the gravitational pull of a black hole... no matter where I am. And so on our family's trip to Kaua'i, I was hoping to find at least one quality spot for some tacos and burritos. By all accounts, Da Crack is the undisputed Mexican go-to for locals and tourists alike, and so my family went in with high expectations; we were further encouraged that when we showed up 5 minutes before closing, there was still a huge crowd of people lined up at the window. I decided on an order of fish tacos ($14.99 for two tacos, plus a side of rice and beans); we also added a Shrimp Taco, a Carne Asada Burrito ($10.99), and a Shrimp Burrito Bowl ($10.99). The prices did seem a little high, but we were hoping that they would be justified by some quality food. Unfortunately, it fell well short of expectations. The fish in my tacos was not only under-seasoned, but also extremely overcooked; bland, tough, and terribly dry was not the experience I was hoping for, especially at $7.50 a taco. The shrimp taco was more of the same; it lacked seasoning, and was also a little rubbery from being cooked a touch too long. My dad's carne asada burrito was flavorless to the point where he didn't even finish it -- and he never, ever leaves Mexican food unfinished. My mom did enjoy her shrimp burrito bowl; it was probably the best thing that we ordered, though that may not be saying a whole lot. I suppose that instead of chasing my unquenchable thirst for tacos and burritos, I should have been focusing on the wealth of amazingly fresh, local, authentic Hawaiian food that Kaua'i has to offer... you live and you learn, I guess. read more

I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob, but seafood tacos/burritos in Hawaii are a different beast, since their seafood is much better overall (fresher too). They're located right next to the Kukuiula Market, and it's a literal hole in the wall. You order from a window and receive your food from it - there are no tables aside from the benches near them. They are mostly known for their burritos, but they also have tacos and bowls. Not sure why you would order chicken or carne asada here (pork might be good here... again, SoCal-biased) - the seafood options are where it's at. I opted to get the chipotle garlic shrimp burrito for $13 with black beans. Make sure to check out their flavored sour creams! In addition to plain, they have chipotle and wasabi. I opted to go with chipotle for my already chipotle garlic shrimp burrito... because why not? Honestly the combination wasn't too spicy - it had a slight kick but was overall delicious. So much garlic flavor... it was like getting a Hawaiian garlic shrimp plate in the form of a burrito. In terms of portions, the burrito is pretty big... like the size of a Chipotle burrito. It's also heavy. However the shrimp tasted great and it had a lot of it, which I appreciated. My friend had the fish burrito ($13), which changes depending on the day - for her it was mahi-mahi. She really liked it, as the fish was grilled and the flavor wasn't lost in all the burrito stuffing. In fact, she had the fish burrito twice... which was a surprise to me since I seldom see her eat fish (I didn't even know she could like seafood), so that was an indicator that it was really good. I've seen from some of the photos that they'll have ono fish. I'll have to check out this place again if I'm ever in the area. I'll preface this review by saying that I've been a fan of Da Crack for years. I decided today to grab a burrito for lunch and with the pandemic it made sense to order online and show up at the appointed time instead of hanging out around a bunch of other people who's vaccination and mask-wearing status I didn't know or have any control over. Ordered my regular burrito, showed up 5 minutes earlier than the time I'd asked for it to be ready, and hung out in earshot of the window waiting for my name to be called to pick up my lunch. 10 minutes after that time had passed, I got into the long line to get up to the window to finally be handed a cold burrito, 25 minutes after the time I'd ordered it to be ready. Nothing in my online order told me to wait in the ordering line to pick it up. There were no signs at the shop saying that online orders required you to stand in the normal line to get your food. My lunch was still tasty (which is why it gets two stars) but I wasted a lot of time and ended up with a cold burrito instead of the normal lunch I would have had if I had skipped trying to order online to minimize contact and keep everybody safer. read more

The food was good, but incredibly overpriced. My order included three items (two burritos and a small quesadilla), and the total came out to $45 with a 20% tip. I've visited the Hawaiian islands multiple times so I'm accustomed to higher prices, but coming from Texas, I know how much it costs to make good Mexican food. We enjoyed the food, and I would say that it's comparable to Chipotle. However, the fact that no seating or services are offered make the additional cost difficult to justify. I did use online ordering which was convenient. They should add signage to let people know that online orders can be picked up at the side window. Otherwise, it looks like you just have to wait in line with everyone else that is ordering in person. I enjoy talking to people while waiting in line so I was able to quickly learn about the side window from another patron. read more

Delicious! Exactly what I was looking for on the island. I had a fish bowl with black beans rice cabbage and basically every fixin. The fish was SO fresh and flakey and seasoned perfectly.
