Service was OK now too fast not too slow, but it was Monday lunchtime and only four other tables room. A bunch of rolls and the rice to fish ratio was a little bit more rice but it's not seem too off par from other all, you can eat sushi spots. However, the fish to rice ratio with the Nigerian hand rolls were ridiculous. It's not even worth getting. It's all rice and very little fish. I got an Unagi Nick Gary, which is the paper, thin and fat rice. The roll was similar as well, which was very thinly sliced fishwith tons of rice I can probably fill two or three. Daiki Sushi is my absolute favorite AYCE sushi place in San Mateo. The quality of the food is top notch, with matching service as well. The staff there are always friendly and make me and whoever I'm with, feel welcome. Since I've been to this restaurant over a dozen times, I know the full methods of ordering from their vast AYCE menu. The method is "pick any 3 from the list, but no duplicates for each order" per person. You can still order AYCE of any item, but they must be separate orders. Really like tempura shrimp, unagi nigiri and spider rolls? Only want to eat those same three items the whole time? Just finish all of what you order, then order the exact same three items again. Easy and tasty! Or if you're wanting to sample a lot of the menu, order a variety of things. This works well with three or more people at the table. If each of you starts off with 3 rolls each (table of 4), 12 rolls will arrive and everyone at the table can start having sushi roll pieces with a nice variety. The great part is that the staff is really attentive and are very fast at making all the food on the menu. They even start giving you blank menus (for you to fill in) while you're about to finish your current orders, so you don't have to wait long for your next food orders to arrive at your table. The cost is also very reasonable, especially if you pay cash, to which they will offer a cash discount. Paying by credit card offers no discount, which makes sense, since the credit card vendors charge the establishment to use their services. Keep that in mind if you go; Paying with cash gets you a discount! I'm so glad I found this place a few years ago. We were seated right away since the restaurant was near empty. The employees were pretty friendly and attentive. The AYCE sushi was made to order and was served pretty quickly which I was grateful for since we came hungry! Quality and rate wise, I'd say it was more or less what I expected: not necessarily the freshest sashimi and heavy on the rice. But it definitely still satisfied my sushi craving. So I was tripping balls with Lucy all day long and by the end of the trip, I realized I hadn't eaten or drank much all day. I felt drained - Dehydrated, fatigued, with a headache coming on. My sister drove us to Daiki and the meal literally felt like it was bringing me back to life. I don't know if it was the freshness of everything, the electrolytes from the cucumber salad, or what, but this has officially become my newest favorite sushi spot. All you can eat for $36 (for dinner). Each person can order 3 plates at a time, and everything cokes out freshly made. I like this because it isn't just generic sushi that sits on a bar all day. AYCE sushi buffet! I love this concept where they give you a menu and marker to check 4 things off at a time. Sushi rolls are big though. Not a 4 roll taste like other AYCE. After my go to fave Old Town Sushi closed, I've been trying to find a new place to replace it. Someone told me to give this place a try out of curiosity and I saw they had an AYCE weekday lunch special so decided to give it a try. Came with my wife for lunch on a Tuesday and there were only a few tables of people. The workers were very nice and the place was clean. There was a decent amount of items to choose from the buffet menu. As expected from an AYCE sushi buffet, the quality of the food was so so. Several of the rolls we got were similar where it was a different fish but on a California roll. We are not big eaters so we could not maximize on the AYCE aspect since we did 2 rounds of ordering and we were full. Each round of ordering allowed for 3 items to be ordered per person. At least they gave a 10% off offer for paying with cash. I don't think I will be back again because we were better off spending thr money on Ala carte sushi and rolls with higher quality elsewhere. read more

First of all, I love that this is an AYCE sushi restaurant. Logistically, I can't see them being quick enough refilling drinks or bringing out the food if the restaurant is full. Luckily, my guests and I were one of the early birds and most of the tables were still empty when we arrived. Towards the latter part of our meal as more people trickled in, they were getting overwhelmed trying to balance out their attention among all the tables and getting the orders filled quickly. Re: the food, for the most part the fish was fresh. For the lunch price they charge on a weekend, it's still a pretty good deal at just under $24. Personally, I would separate the wait staff from the food preparation, only because they are touching other things such as the menu and pens, and grabbing glasses off the tables for refills. I get it's all hands on deck when it gets busy but when you're waiting tables and prepping food in between, that may be a hygiene issue to some customers. Service was friendly. This review would have been 1 star due to the young waiters lack of manners. This kid, threw my plate of food on my table as if I'm a dog. Not once, but twice. Just tossed it like a bowl of dog food without saying a word. This isn't prison. He never came by to see if i needed anything.. i had to flag down (who i think was his dad) from the back to get me more water & napkins. His "dad" (older bald gentleman) was really kind. Got me what I needed, and also brought me the complementary small hot sake (with purchase of a large) without me even asking. Thanked me for coming, and told me to take my time with the bill. Papa to the rescue, +1 star. The ikura nigiri had literally 10-12 fish eggs above a big lump of rice. Same with the tobiko nigiri. See photos below. Tip of the day, dont make it so obvious you're trying to fill us with rice. Fish quality was below average, pickled radish was dry (more like dehydrated) and un-edible. But the Fortune Roll (spicy tuna and onions) was supposed to be deep fried and didn't seem like it was. It was tasty enough but it was missing that crunch, especially with the addition of sauces which made it a bit extra soggy. Last but not least the Threesome Roll (tuna, unagi, salmon, avocado) was pretty light on the unagi and salmon and cut too big to eat properly. They cut the regular size scallop to more than 6 small pieces to share with 3 or 4 pieces maybe ? The salmon is only 1/3 size of the regular sushi for the individual one. And the huge amount of rice doesn't mean it's tasty. It tastes like overnight cooking rice , it's hard and cold and not like the sushi rice. Ambiance is ok. The sushi is made with big bulk (too much) of rice and small (thinner than normal of 3-5mm) cut of fish. Likewise, the sushi hand-roll has too much rice. Although the sushi roll doesn't have as much rice as the hand-roll or the sushi does, it has more of the mixed imitation crab than its fish which is also cut thinner than the normal size of 3-5 mm. Basically I couldn't feel any fish in my mouth when eating their sushi, sushi roll, or sushi hand-roll. All I eat were mostly rice or imitation crabs. Therefore, I immediately feel full after eating 1-2 sushi rolls or sushi. Their shrimp tempura is not flaky and crumbled enough. It's like cooked with regular batter instead of tempura batter. The rolls came out pretty quick and they definitely do not skimp on anything . EVERYTHING was delicious! No complaints about anything. The price was very reasonable for all the food we got . Pretty much you can throw a dart at the menu and everything you get is gonna be delicious.
