This is Das BBQ's second location and has been open now for about 5 months, as it opened doors in April of 2021. It is located in Grant Park directly on Memorial Drive next to the Oakland Cemetery. This location is a tad different from the original on Collier road as they seemed to focus more on the layout, seating and overall feel of the space versus a healthy combination of food and ambiance. What I mean by that is this location is more of a quick/counter service bbq joint that features a fantastic space to enjoy your meal in. The exterior of this location features a phenomenal outdoor space that consists of covered and uncovered patios which also converts into a great space for events (ie Yelp Events!) and then the inside has a small and cute full service bar with a good sized, but narrow dining room that features a combination of tables and high tops. The outside is truly where it is at here! As mentioned above, this location has all the food pre-made and pre-packaged waiting for you at the counter. Whether you are eating on site or taking to go, you go to the counter to order and they supply to you immediately. This includes everything from the meats, wings, sandwiches, sides and desserts. Since they prepare what they feel they may need, in the event it does not sell day of, you can get it discounted the day after. Speaking of food, Das is well known for the obvious, but more specifically their brisket and a few sides. I have enjoyed the brisket at the Collier Road location, but here I went with the brisket sandwich as I was expecting the same meaty, juicy, sturdy and moist meat I have tasted before. Well, I was sadly mistaken, as the sandwich was dry, even drowning it in the supplied sauce did not do enough to bring the meat back to life. For our sides we got macaroni and cheese along with brunswick stew. Both were fine, nothing spectacular. The mac n cheese has the signature baked crust on top, but given the preparation and placement into the to-go containers, it lost a little bit of the texture that makes that part so good! The Brunswick stew was a solid stew, I actually took a good part of my sandwich and added the meat to get the best of both worlds. Parking here can be tough as they do not have dedicated parking. You will have to choose from the street parking surrounding the restaurant and area or parking at Oakland Cemetery, both of which are free. Overall, Das is becoming a well known institution here in Atlanta. This location is definitely a cool spot that I could see myself coming back to. I will say that the Collier Road location has my heart for the food, but this location has my heart for that covered patio! read more

Das BBQ has brought their delicious barbecue from the Upper Westside closer to Downtown Atlanta with this new location in Grant Park, right next to historic Oakland Cemetery. They've encroached upon the territory of longtime downtown Atlanta favorite, Daddy D'z BBQ Joynt (https://bit.ly/3lzuhah)! I hope the two coexist and succeed. This is the second location of Das BBQ. The first location opened December 30, 2016. I first tried Das BBQ in 2018. In 2019, I gave the original location 5 stars on Yelp: https://bit.ly/3fSTpp5. Their barbecue and sides are good. This second location of Das BBQ opened on April 13, 2021. It replaced The Harp: https://bit.ly/3fSTpp5. The restaurant doesn't have dedicated parking. However, there should be plenty of free street parking nearby, particularly behind the restaurant on MLK. According to the restaurant, you're also allowed to park in the Oakland Cemetery public gravel lot. You enter that lot from MLK near Oakland Ave, directly in front of the main entrance to the cemetery. There was ample parking during my Wednesday dinner visit around 6:30-7:00pm. This new location is nice and big. According to Yvonne Zusel of the AJC (https://bit.ly/3ioPpxV), this location has seating for about 111 inside, about 80 outside-covered, and 30 outside-uncovered. During my visit, they had cornhole set up and ready for play on their nicely-paved lot. They also had a variety of smokers on display: a five-door Franklin smoker out front, a trio inside named Cledus, Smokey, and Bandit, as well as two Southern Pride smokers. If I recall correctly from one of my visits to the Collier Road location, the Southern Pride smokers are used for chicken and turkey while the others are used for brisket, pork, and ribs. According to my hometown friends, the Barbecue Bros (https://bit.ly/3Chq3tT), Das BBQ uses a combination of hickory and pecan wood. The restaurant had a bunch of chopped wood stored outside next to the catering van, "Das Van." Inside, they've got a small, five-seat bar with beers on tap. They have a projector which they use to display televised sports, etc, and an indoor-outdoor speaker system with great sound quality. I like the variety of seating options. It's just a cool spot all around. Das means "the" in German. As I wrote in my review for the original Das BBQ location, the name "Das" is a nod to the German and Czech settlers who first brought smoked meats to Texas. The food menu is simple with meats served in whole, half, and sandwich portions; sides in regular (5 oz), pint, and quart portions; and desserts. Examples of prices when I visited included a whole pound of sliced brisket for $30, 5 "Smokin' Legs" (chicken wings) for $8, and a whole rack of ribs for $44. The prices of what I ordered below should also give you an idea. Pints of sides ran $7-12 each and quarts ran $10-23 each. Desserts - banana pudding and brownies - were sold in singles only, $5 and $3, respectively. Here's what I ordered: Meats * Brisket, sliced, 1/2 lb ($15) * Pork, pulled, 1/2 lb ($9) * Sausage, one hot and one mild (BOGO, $2.50, see below) Sides and Dessert * Das Cream Corn, regular 5 oz ($5) * Collard greens, regular 5 oz ($4) * Mac & cheese, regular 5 oz ($5) * Coleslaw, regular 5 oz ($3) * Banana pudding, regular 5 oz ($5) I ordered my food to-go. It appeared that no matter dining in or taking out, the only difference in the way the food was served was whether it was on a metal, paper-lined tray or in a brown bag. All of the meats and sides appeared to already be portioned and packaged individually for immediate serving. Cashier Kierra and her coworker were very nice. However, when I got home, I realized they forgot to pack the pulled pork that I had ordered and paid for. I understand mistakes happen. I called Das BBQ and the only options were to listen to recorded messages and/or leave a voice mail. I left a voice mail. I received a receipt via email (Clover). When I hit reply, the reply address was to Das BBQ owner Stephen Franklin. I shot him a quick note and he got back to me immediately. The next day, Joy took care of me by initiating a refund and offering pork on the house the next time I visit. Now that's great customer service. As for the food itself, it was consistent with the Collier Road location. I recommend the brisket, sausage - both hot and mild, pretty much all the sides listed above except for maybe the coleslaw. Definitely get the banana pudding. Das still serves up some of the tastiest, smokiest, and moistest sliced beef brisket in Atlanta, in my opinion. Their sausages are juicy, plump, and packed with flavor. As noted on the menu, the sausages come from Elgin, Texas, so they're not made in-house. There was a "Buy One, Get One Free" fridge of "old" sandwiches and sausages that they weren't able to sell in previous days. Stopped in here for dinner with my mentor (who was in from out of town) He lives in the north east so I wanted to show him some real BBQ. This is the second location for DAS. Outside you can see the named smoker lined up. Inside they have a full bar and high top seating. You order pretty much a la carte. They don't have a "sampler" platter. We got a brisket sandwich, pulled pork, and turkey. I'm a certified KCBS judge, so I know a bit about BBQ. Everything was good. The turkey was a "sleeper" in that it was very juicy and moist and better than expected. The rib prices were artificially high due to pork processing plant costs at the moment, but the owner stopped by our table to chat about the place and was really engaging. I came here yesterday for DJ JAZZY JEFF for the YELP ELITE EVENT and it was awesome! Great beer/drinks and such an awesome time. Now to the food - I didn't care for the brisket sandwich at all. It was really dry even with the BQQ sauce. BUT the Mac and cheese stole the show for sure. It was so good, the cheese melted perfectly in the shells and my favorite part of the meal. Obviously, the DJ was on point and had everyone dancing and enjoying themselves. This place has a great outdoors space and wasn't crowded at all, everyone respected each other's space. Previously I've been to the Collier Rd location before I ever visited this new location. I definitely liked the brownies they had and the brisket at that time it was put in a thin paper that kept it moist and juicy! I went at a different time with a friend and they stopped that and put the brisket in a plastic container instead like it was chopped instead of sliced. I wish that they didn't do that I haven't been back to that location. I went to this location after seeing that they have a beef rib on Sunday so I had to pull up to try it out. I placed my order for me and my mom. The music was loud I asked for regular size sides and not large. Idk if the cashier heard me correctly or not. Just double check before receiving your order. We stopped by this place after a 2 Day Breast cancer walk this afternoon. The food is amazing!!!!! I'm not a huge BBQ fan ( it has to be really good) but we had the most delicious brisket today. They have a large, screened in area Where they smoke their own meat and is smells heavenly. All three of us had the brisket and loved the sides. Between us we had potato salad , collard greens , Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. The staff told us that they make all of the food in house. There are corn hole boards ,tether ball and groupings of tables and chairs outside. They also have seating indoors. While we were leaving ,the restaurant had a group setting up a wrestling ring !! It seems like a really fun place to go with friends. I was so disappointed that we were not able to stay. The only negative that I can say is the parking was very limited. There were approximately 6 spots behind DAS BBQ. I don't know if there are normally alternatives or not. There was a big activity in the Cemetary and a policeman was closing certain areas. I was riding through the city and wanted Banana pudding badly, so I saw this spot and asked I assumed was a worker or owner if they carried it and he said the best. I tried his suggestion and also while in there I brought the brisket sandwich and a side of baked beans. So being I wasn't that hungry I immediately opened the pudding and it had some type of fairy dust on top but I said let me still try it and I was upset . It wasn't enough wafers for my liking and it was overly sweet instead of savory like I'm used to. The service was great and the atmosphere too but I didn't enjoy the pudding at all I tasted the brisket later when I got home and I must say it was good but I would prefer smaller slices, the beans hit can't even front they tasted very good. You can see the smokers and their equipment as you walk in so it's a very nice-looking place but it's a pass for me sorry . Kaleb advised me to place my order online early 12:55pm for pickup at the time I would like 730pm. For two days I was still unable to get any food as my order was disregarded. When I called to verify if my order would be ready, he stated he couldn't find my order. Once found he told me that he doesn't advise me to put a pickup time just place the order early. Huh? This is absurd actually and makes no sense at all. Me and my family was without for two days off of poor advice. One of the best settings to have an event in this neighborhood! Food: Not sure why I haven't tried this place sooner. The Mac and cheese is phenomenal! I also got some kind of corn side. Definitely don't miss out on that. They serve a really special beer here, but I'm not really into IPAs, so I can't speak on that. Everyone else seemed to love it though. Customer service: I was helped by a guy that was serving the night that DJ Jazzy Jeff was there and he wasn't the friendliest (I.e. one star came off). Had a lunch meeting here last week, on arrival I walked though the smokehouse. The only thing between you and the smokers is a few stanchions and some chain. Inside I spoke to the manager and he said the chains are there because of insurance regs, so they do it. They want it open and inviting. Additional conversations revels the best thing on the menu as the Brisket and the creamed corn. Both, notably at the top of the menu board. Both were simply best I've ever had. The brisket was perfect, falling apart with an amazing bark. I'm the guy who cuts the fat cap off, but it was easily done and I'm glad it was there, it helped moisten and flavor the meat. First of all after reading other reviews, I didn't know about the other location(s). This spot is overrated for sure. Who prepackages BBQ!!!! This place does, lol. I ordered a Pulled Pork Sandwich, side of Slaw and a Banana Pudding: $20 - I did tip as well. I had my food faster than McDonalds - I already knew something was wrong. The meat was stuck to the bread, haha. I assume because it was prepackaged and sitting in a warmer. The slaw was okay, but a quick warning...it's not necessarily a traditional simple slaw in case that's your expectation. Come on now! They destroyed the Banana Pudding, and I don't understand why or how. Just grab a box of Nilla Wafers and follow the box recipe. Wow. The container was filled with 3/4 cup of whipped Cream and the rest was maybe 3 small wafers and custard, zero bananas. This was an experience for sure. Will grab lunch #2 in a few, lol. read more

This place was a huge disappointment. Don't let the high reviews fool you, there is much better BBQ in Atlanta coming from people using smokers on the side of the road. The place is extremely expensive because sides and meats are separately priced and then you pay $5 for a side and they don't even fill up the little bowl they give it to you in. The brisket is extremely dry and the ribs taste awful and overly salty and dry as well. You don't get any bread with your meat either. People that review this place well truly haven't tasted what good BBQ is. My wife and I travel all over the country and the world and have eaten endless types of cuisine and I could honestly say this is one of the more disappointing meals I've ever had from a taste perspective. I don't mind paying a good amount of money for a good product, but when you get what we just got for 1/2 Ribs, 1/2 Brisket, two Mac and Cheeses, Potato Salad and Creamed Corn for $46 you realize these people are out of their mind. read more

This place has good enough food, though the sauces are not the best. The service is spotty and the outdoor area is chaotic. They don't seem to train their employees. The last time I went, the guy at the counter couldn't find the beer tap that was right in front of him and didn't know how to pour it. They were completely out of sausages at 5 pm. Oh well, ok then. We went to sit outside and there was a band setting up - playing music out of their speakers, while also sound-checking the drums as if they were about to play a huge festival, and then there was different music coming out of the speakers on the patio. Flavorful and tender along with the ribs which were fall off the bone. The DAS corn with cheese & jalapenos was delicious. Not too spicy. My mom and I really enjoyed the food. The sides come in sealed containers, all placed on a metal tray. The brisket was tender and juicy. The creamed corn was flavorful with a kick. The Brunswick stew was the same with a kick to it as well. The portion size was great,especially the Brunswick stew. As good as any bbq that I've had around town. Some one in line told me they found the brisket to be dry but I thought it was pretty solid based off the small sample they gave me. Enjoyed the ribs quite a bit too and disagree with some other comments here about the sauce being too tangy. Pulled pork was simply outstanding. Mac and cheese was just ok; nothing special to me. It's hard not to compare to daddy d'z and even wood's chapel in our neighbourhood but I think it's on par in many ways and always nice to have another good bbq option. I'll need to try more to gain a finer distinction in styles, values, and superiority to others. The place has a nice ambiance and I'd like to come back when there is live music, which I've seen on happening the patio (huge plus in my book).
