To set the proper tone for this review I am 62 years old and a professionally trained mechanic. I have also been a community college administrator in charge of an auto technician training center. When my youngest daughter moved to Las Vegas from Colorado I went in search of a good mechanic to service her 2008 Toyota 4Runner. After reading reviews and personally talking with Dave I thought I had found one. Sad to say I was wrong. 3 weeks ago my wife was in Vegas and texted me letting me know our daughters 4Runner was ready for an oil change and asked where to take it. I told her to look in the glove box and she would find the business card of Dave's Autotech. I told her to be sure and show him the directions under the hood. Each of my kids vehicles has a printed set of maintenance directions that are laminated and zip tied to the air box so that there is no chance of a mechanic not understanding the maintenance schedule, or which type of oil the engine takes. A picture of those directions is attached. She took the car to Dave's and showed him the directions and he started work on the car. A while later my wife texts me again and asks how much an oil change should cost as the bill was only $35.00. I responded that there is no way he followed the directions under the hood as the instructions call for full synthetic oil and I can't buy the oil myself for $35.00. My wife instinctively knew this as she has been with me on many occasions and knows what the synthetic oils cost. I asked her to ask Dave if he followed the instructions. When she asked again him this was his response. "Ma'am, your husband doesn't understand that this engine isn't designed to use full synthetic oil." (That was his first lie). He then said, "I have an oil that I use that is specifically designed for this engine." (That was his second lie). Then he looks at my wife and says, "Ya know, your husband is kind of anal. (That's an unprofessional insult). I instructed my wife to pay the bill and that I would take care of it. My wife flew back home and brought me the bill. A copy of the bill from Dave's is also attached. The following week I arranged to fly from Colorado to Las Vegas to attend to this issue and find a new mechanic to change out whatever oil Dave put in and put in the correct oil. When I arrived in Vegas I inspected the car and found that not only had Dave not followed the instructions on how to change the oil, but the dirty air filter was left unchanged and he had used a non Toyota approved oil filter. In addition, there is nothing on the bill to indicate that he used even a semi-synthetic oil which means he mixed conventional oil with a synthetic Lucas oil stabilizer. Not good. I drove to Dave's Autotech and parked the car and raised the hood. I walked inside and asked Dave, who did not recognize me, if he could come outside and look at a problem under the hood. When we arrived at the car I pointed to the maintenance instructions and asked him if he had ever seen anything like that. He said, "yes", I remember this car. I then asked him if he could read and why he didn't follow the instructions. He immediately responded with another lie and stated that my wife agreed to put in a different oil. I stopped him right there and stated, "Dave, your lying, and furthermore I'm not just some guy off the street that doesn't know one end of an end wrench from another. I'm a professionally trained mechanic so be careful with your answers. He then took a different tone and said he wanted to make me happy and offered to redo the oil change. I let him know he would never be touching my car ever again as he had demonstrated he was not trust worthy and that he had taken advantage of my wife. I then asked him where he got off thinking he could tell my wife that I was Anal. He denied saying it. I let him know my wife isn't the liar and that he did call me anal. He then recanted and stated that if he did say that it was in jest. I let Dave know that his idea of jest is highly unprofessional and that my wife was very insulted over that comment. Dave then offered to give me my money back. I declined and told him this wasn't about the money. He then asked what I wanted. I told him that I wanted him to listen as he was going to hear this feedback again and again. So, this is my well earned $35.00 review, plus the cost of a plane ticket and hotel. Be warned. Dave is a dishonest mechanic who takes advantage of women who drive cars with out of state plates. Like most dishonest mechanics he probably thought he would never see this car again. He was wrong. And Dave, if you decide to rebut this review with more lies my wife has stated she will leave her own review from her perspective as a woman. Your choice. I read reviews on several different shops and it seemed that Dave's Auto Tech 3540 S Jones had the best reviews. The check engine light had come on and the code read cooling system malfunction. The fans by the radiator weren't running, the PCM needed replacing..(DMV tells you you have to get repairs done at one of their authorized repair shops if you fail a smog test, so I went to Dave's who is on the list I got from the smog testing station.) He quoted me $678 to fix, and added that my alternator might also need replacing. I did research online, cargurus, automotiveforums.com, nissanforums.com, all said it was the PCM, a small part the size of my hand, that bolts on and off right next to the radiator by the battery, a 20 minute job to switch out . A friend recommended Jody's Repair Mobile Service. He tested with the voltage meter, ordered the part from AutoZone, replaced it, all for $200. My van passed the smog, got my tags from the DMV, and it's running fine 2 months later. Dave might do a good job, but he charges way too much.... or did he think that I, as a woman didn't know any better? Humm... read more

I requested and was given a quote of $69.95 for a 2015 Passat. I found out that since my car is a turbo it needed another quart so it ended up being about $20 more. So, you might want to know how many quarts your car takes so you can get an accurate quote. Fortunately, I took advantage of the "first time customer" offer on yelp which made me happy. Best, honest and reliable mechanic ever! Had them change my shocks and struts last year and heard some rattling so I stopped by today to have it checked out. DAVE took me right away and found out my alignment was completely off and did the alignment for me and also found that there were missing clips on my bumper which he replaced as well all without charge! I THOUGHT Dave was an honest guy until my boyfriend brought his car BACK to the shop after buying a new engine. We got the car towed by AAA to his shop, the next day he called and said that the repairs were best done at the dealership. My boyfriend went back to shop the next day after business hours (Dave promised the key would be left someplace accessible) IT WASNT. That, however, is not the issue at hand. The issue is that today when my boyfriend went back to get the key, Dave tried to rush him by questioning how quickly AAA would be coming (essentially acting shady) we come to realize that his truck was ROBBED of majority of our property. NO THE TRUCK WAS NOT BROKEN INTO!!! Someone with access to the key *cough Dave and his mechanics* robbed us of majority of the items in our truck. Keep in mind we are in the middle of a move so we had VALUABLES in our truck. Call us DUMB for trusting him, so be it. Just wanted to leave this review before we show up at the shop tomorrow with the police to report a theft!!!! Sorry, but if you ask me, a mechanic who lets his employees steal from customers doesn't seem VERY HONEST TO ME.
