We weren't sure if the tenders would be filling enough on its own, but they are MASSIVE. The Hot Box - Tenders ($40) also comes with 5 slices of toast, so it was quite filling. Mild is the perfect level for me, where I can enjoy the spice without being in any pain, but I might try the next level in the future. Monrovia such a beautiful town. Had to stop by for some Daves's Hot Chicken. Ordered #3 mild spice for To Go just to check out this location and taste. No regrets, will definitely order other options when in town. Had the chocolate shake as well, made from real ice cream. It tasted alright, perhaps in the summer. Second time this location got my DoorDash order wrong. I drive to the location today to try and either get it refunded or my missing food given to me. The ladies helping me didn't even say hello instead they looked like dears in headlights and didn't say I word. I asked for a manager and they told me there wasn't one. Told them my order was wrong and said I would like my items and a refund. It then took three girls to talk among themselves to have two of them come out and ask me again what the problem was as if they weren't just talking about it. They non chalantly look at my order which is clearly wrong and take 5 minutes to decide to give me my missing items with no refund since to manager was on duty. I refuse to take this as an acceptable answer given there attitudes made it seem like it wasn't there fault and they don't get paid to deal with these types of situations. Well that's what a manager is for so if you do handle customers maybe you should have better attitudes dealing with the situation. We pay enough to not have to deal with types of situations. Five stars as compared to other fast food places. This location is new. I was excited when I saw they were coming to Monrovia and eagerly awaited the opening. Made it in the 2nd day. If you are not familiar with Dave's, the chicken can be ordered as either a strip or a slider. Most of the time people think small on a slider but that isn't the case here. Nope, Dave's sliders are served on a full sized burger bun and the chicken breadt is large. Slaw, pickles and Dave's sauce are on the slider. The strip is good sized to but is nothing but the strip served with their sauce on the side. Chicken is moist and the coating is always crispy. You can order your chicken in one of 7 spice levels. While I prefer the extra hot and have had THE REAPER, I suggest most people begin with a medium hot. read more

I'd been planning on going back to the new Raising Cane's but then I noticed Dave's Hot Chicken had opened up in the spot the old Applebee's had been in. Way different vibe. Must've only recently opened because there were construction workers still working in and around the back entrance and I had to double check to see if the restaurant was actually open. I'm not sure which was louder, the music or the (awesomely) painted wall decor (wtg, @SplatterHouse). (But seriously, the music was too loud and the mostly empty interior with many a hard surface just made everything louder. I couldn't hear my phone with the speaker cranked. Ok, the food. I'm more of a flavor guy than a spice athlete. I like heat, but not for the purpose of setting my mouth on fire. And I appreciate the choices of both Mild and Lite Mild. I ordered a 2 slider w/fries combo in one of each the afore mentioned spice levels, both with cheese. I was surprised to find out that even at this price ($14), the drink was sold separately. Hmm. Service was pleasant but definitely still had that newbie, not super trained (like you'd find at Chik-fil-A or Raising Cane's) vibe. She was new and nervous, bless her heart. She'll get it. ALRIGHT, so the food. It was... fine. I'm not a fan of sliders as sandwiches which are just a tender on a bun. I mean, if that's what you're doing, own it and use an oblong roll. That being said, all the requisite elements were tasty. The bun was soft and chewy without being too much bread. The slaw was some crunch that didn't overpower the taste. I'm glad it came with extra pickles on the side, because the sliders needed them. The fries were great. Well seasoned, crispy crinkle cuts with steamy interiors. The Dave's sauce was... ok. I prefer Cane sauce. Dave's sauce is just a little more tangy than savory and I felt that got in the way. As for the heat levels, Lite Mild and Mild are not different flavors (like you might get at a Wing Stop)... just varying amounts of delay before you feel some heat start to kick up. Neither burnt me out, so I'll try a medium tender before I leave to see how that goes. Maybe get a shake to go with. read more

When we walked in it smelled bad like someone had BO or the bathrooms not sure. Took forever to have our order taken and then we sat there for the longest time with other people when we only order one meal. Prices are high, ended up getting one meal to split just because it was a lot. I haven't tried the food yet but first impression wasn't the best. They should have specials being that it just opened to get the buzz going and a lot of people working so lines aren't super long. Update: The company reached out and provided a free combo code for me to try again. I went today ordered online and picked up. Food is good, fries are great so is their sauce. The inside still had a weird smell to it when I walked in and service is sub par. I say if you go, order to go in advance so you aren't waiting long and order the fries. It's alright if you're in the area and have nothing else to satisfy the craving, but with so many other hot chicken places in LA county, it's not worth it.
