The best fried chicken I have ever had! It is our go to meal when we feel like having something fried and quick

Like most chicken places, order tenders or sandwiches at the counter and wait for your number. Service was quick. The atmosphere is loud and "industrial," with metal tables and chairs. However, the food is top-notch. I struggle to explain the spice of the chicken. It has similarities to cajun spices with garlic and onion; however, there is something different about the flavor as well. It's amazing to find something familiar yet different. This will be a spot for me to take pride whenever I introduce someone new to it. read more

Well.. after waiting for the initial wave of new opening to blow over, I finally go to Dave's to give this Hot chicken a try. The Newton location was easy to find and parking at the location is busy. Since this was my first visit I figured I'd rate them on my hot and spicy scale. Ordered the number 1 with two tenders and added a extra tender. I also put in a order for a number 2 with two chicken sliders. Both with the Hot spice. My impressions were that the chicken was really good. The dry spices are simply great. No soggy sauce on the chicken to make a mess. Both orders came with freshly made crispy fries and a dipping sauce. The chicken portions are large and it comes in good size takeout container. Being someone who knows Hot, their level of hot was missing. The spices were on point but I expected that hot kick with the HOT on every bite but it just wasn't there. My next visit I'll order the top of the hot list. Definitely worth checking it out if your in the mood for some chicken. read more

Very average for a hot chicken place. The medium slider lacked flavor and the hot slider had so much dry spice on it that it was over the top and unenjoyable. The side of fries was very small with too much seasoning. I'm confident I'd rather take my fat ass to chick-fil-a for their spicy chicken sandwich. My wife and daughter wanted me to try this place, so we went this past weekend. I thought the chicken and fries were great!!! I thought the staff was also super friendly. We dined in, and staff did forget to give me some honey on the side; I also had to ask for forks/knives which they keep behind the cashier - but no problems, super courteous and friendly. Hot chicken comes to New England!!! I got the medium level spice and it still had quite the kick. I love spicy but this was even too much for me. NOT that it's a bad thing! The chicken was so juicy and full of flavor, the Mac and cheese was mad just right! My husband got the Hot and it almost had me in tears LOL again not a bad thing, I love spicy. If you want to try hot chicken or love some good ol' spicy food, come check this place out!! read more

I ordered 3 of #1s 2 boxes had no fries. The chicken tenders were small and very dry even though they were brined? Most likely - they were cooked way ahead of time then refried or the pieces were small but fried too long as if they were normal size tenders (see Drakes IG pic). Adjust the cook times. Also, the girl putting together the order didn't know what she was doing. She gave two packs of ketchup for my invisible fries. Yikes. Imma tell Drizzy. read more

Decent/good place for chicken! I was very happy when I saw Dave's open on one of my favorite plazas, and I was happy to try it out. I ordered the Dave's #1 with medium spice level. The quality of the food was very good, and the chicken was prepared perfectly (no rough spots at all)- it was very juicy and tender. The fries were crinkle cut, and had a tasty bit of seasoning on them. The meal also came with pickles, which is always a plus. The food was good, very filling. I couldn't finish the meal. The service was decent, i had to wait a bit of time for the food, which was no big deal, 15 mins when I was one of the only people in the store. The employees were talking amongst themselves which made it take longer, but honestly it was refreshing to see everyone getting along, so it was worth it :) read more

Chicken is a 10/10. It's super crispy and the flavor is on point. However the Mac and cheese was a disappointment. The business photos make it look good but what I got was basically soupy cheese sauce with a few noodles. If the texture was better it could be good because I like that they add spice to the cheese sauce. read more

Little trick I found was if you just want the chicken without the fries and coleslaw, you can order them individually (it's small print on the menu that's basically hidden) and it's cheaper. One of the staff members introduced me to putting their honey on the chicken, sooo good! read more

I placed an order for a combo, and then requested a cup for water. The cashier said they couldn't give me one and offered to sell me bottled water instead. I cancelled my order and left. I look forward to trying the food here, but not until I can get a glass of water to go with it. EDIT: the generic response from customer service makes it worse. I got the single tender mild (which was not spicy at all) which came on a loaf of bread and pickles with a side of sauce. And can I tell you, it was incredible! The chicken was nice and hot, crispy and crunchy skin. The chicken was juicy and tender inside. Pairing the bread, chicken, pickle, sauce all together, chefs kiss! It was a complete let down the presentation was so sloppy I ordered two sliders for $13.99 also I ordered a M&M milkshake vanilla large it was $6.99 all they did was throw little m&m's on it ooo and it was melting as soon as we got it. The condiments was being guarded by a employee and she was not friendly at all. This is a mixed review because overall flavor and juiciness of the chicken is on point but I'm questioning the "hot" in dave's hot chicken! I can definitely handle a good amount of spice so the first time I went I got a medium and a hot. I did my research and was expecting my mouth to be on fire with hot. But my experience was very much not. Flavor was good but minimal heat! I thought maybe I need to up it. Tried Dave's for the first time recently (ordered delivery) and was shocked by how SALTY everything was. So salty both my boyfriend and I couldn't finish it. I don't know if this was maybe a fluke, but because of how overwhelmingly salty everything was, I don't know that I'd eat here again. 3 stars because the sauce was delicious and the fries and chicken were good, but the seasoning was way too much. The sandwiches were PAINFULLY SALTY! SO DISAPPOINTING! So much so that I was convinced salt was on clearance. The sauce helped, but it was still very salty. I tried to add pickles to make it less salty, but it was pickled in a salty brine! Came here on a Thursday night before closing. Food came out fast and hot. I tried the #3, 1 slider (extra hot) and 1 tender (hot). The chicken was crispy & juicy. The slaw and sauce on the slider were also delicious. The biggest let down for me was the spice level. In my opinion the hot was very mild and the extra hot was just a medium level spice. I guess I'll have to try reaper next time. Also, the price was a little high for the value. I think I'll be back to try the reaper spice, but not for anything else. Wanted to like it... probably some of the worst fried chicken you can have. The chicken consistency was extremely varied and salty from the three times I ordered. Looks good but tastes pretty awful. This restaurant started out great when they first opened, but the service and quality have slipped a bit since the opening. I ordered a slider and a side of fries. I placed the order at 6:15 PM and was told the order would be ready at 6:45 PM. I arrived at 6:35 PM and the food was already done. I ate out front outside and the food was already cold, especially the fries. Additionally, I asked for ketchup on the order and got honey instead. I also asked for cutlery and none was included. Lastly, the box was covered in sauce-laden fingerprints, which made the presentation decidedly unappealing. Food tasted ok, but for the cost, I expected better attention to detail. read more

My friend brought a Reaper Roulette Slider pack to a party. I got the reaper. I have a high spice tolerance and this was the first time in a decade that I actually thought something was spicy. Washed it down with two glasses of milk. It's pretty darn good, and a really fun game to play. read more

I was so looking forward to this place opening. I went opening day and once since. It was ok. Definitely tastier than, say, B.Good but not good enough to justify the price. It's not bad but the tastiest part is the kale slaw. The Mac n cheese is skippable. I like the sliders and the cost makes sense given the size. But there's just something missing for me. The dry seasoning on the fries just washes out the balance they might offer. I might go again if I'm craving a chicken slider but it won't be a go-to spot for me. read more

I'd definitely order from here again. I ordered through Grubhub and unfortunately the food arrived cold even though the restaurant isn't far but I think Grubhub took awhile to assign a driver so not the restaurant's fault! I ordered the 2 slider combo in hot. Despite having to reheat, it was tasty and had a nice kick to it. I'll try extra hot next time because I love spicy food. Fries were above average...I'm sure they must be even better not reheated. The sliders are quite large so it was very filling. The chicken was nice and crispy and tender despite reheating in the microwave. I'm excited that there's now a place to order chicken that truly has some heat to it. I've tried this place for take out twice. 4 menu choices, not complicated. First try I was given a menu option cheaper than the one I paid for so I was overcharged $2. A month later I tried again figuring anyone can make a mistake. When I got home the side I ordered ( for almost $4) wasn't in the bag at all. One time is a mistake, short ordering twice is intentional theft...do they think I am a stupid old lady who can be cheated? The food? Awful. Fries were a solid congealed gloppy mess 15 minutes later when I got home and chicken was spicy cardboard. Never again. I hope they fail and go back home to Cali like Krispy Kreme. We don't need crappy cheaters in Boston. read more

Just wow! First time eating at Dave's HC. Had heard of it but never tried until this visit. Stopped in to grab and was very impressed! Ordered 3 meals for the family....1 Slider, 2 Slider, and Tenders. All of them were fresh, delicious, and great heat. Also got a couple of milkshakes which were also dang good. Cashiers were helpful and welcoming. Nice ambiance as well. Next time we're in the area, this will be our go to spot for sure! read more

Gone there 3 times now, excited to have another halal fried chicken joint in the area. It was ok the first time, great the second time, and again ok the third time. Not sure why. Their menu is very simple, either a large chicken tender or a fried chicken sandwich. The portions are also big. Not a fan of the kale slaw in my sandwich by your opinion may vary. The fries are consistently great. My advice: stick to Hot or Extra Hot for spice level, otherwise you will not taste anything except cayenne. The heat is tolerable for Reaper but it's mostly just a gimmick (they make you sign a waiver) and doesn't taste flavorful. Will probably continue going from time to time. read more
