Wow! Pretty impressed by the chicken here. I stopped in around lunch time on a Saturday and it was kind of popping, but my friend and I were able to grab a table inside the restaurant. We each got the slider and fries and shared a chicken tender, as it was our first time and we wanted to try both the slider and the tender without being overly full. The slider was 10/10, the chicken was super crunchy and juicy, and I really liked the coleslaw they had on the sandwich as well. My bun was a bit soggy, I guess from the coleslaw dressing, but my friend said hers was fine. Chicken was sized well for the sandwich, and the sauce complemented it well (it basically tastes like chick fil a sauce). The fries (crinkle cut) were really nicely done and seasoned. The tender left a bit to be desired, I read a couple of reviews beforehand saying that the skin of the tender wasn't that good, which I agree with. It wasn't particularly crunchy, but I could definitely taste the "spice" more on the tender compared to the chicken in the slider. It seemed to be heavier on the paprika/cayenne. I'd probably pass on the tender and just get the slider next time I come here. I opted to get lite mild spice level because I cannot handle much heat, and it was a lot less spicy than I was expecting. There's a decent amount of seating in the restaurant, tables are spaced apart pretty well so it's pretty comfortable. Throughout our meal I noticed that several workers came around to clean tables/doors/windows which was good to see. Parking is also plentiful in the plaza. For around $15 I thought this was a great value as I was stuffed enough for this to count for 2 meals. Unfortunately, the flavor of the chicken was flat. It just tasted like a generous shaking of cayenne powder and not much else. I didn't find a hint of the brown sugar that is necessary for Nashville style chicken, which would help round out the overall flavor. If you're craving moist chicken tenders then this is the place for you. But I'd recommend going to Scratch Chicken in SJ for tasty Nashville fried chicken. I got the slider with a medium spice level and I was honestly amazed. I didn't eat this until 2 hours after getting it, but THE CHICKEN WAS STILL CRISPY. We went up to the counter and ordered: #1: two tender strips with sliced bread and fries, no spice for the kids. Kids didn't like the outside of the tenders so they picked it off and ate the inside. We also got Mac n cheese which was normal saucy Mac n cheese. #2: we got two ordered of the two sliders with fries. Sliders is basically a tender on a bun with cole slaw, pickles and sauce. This was super filling. Heat level: I tried: hot- this was a good amount of heat. Spicy but my mouth didn't feel like it was on fire. Medium: I ate the hot slider first so this had zero heat compared to the hot. Hubby tried the reaper: he was sweating buckets and said that it was a good amount of heat. He likes it ! They asked if I wanted cheese on it and I opted not to. I did get extra of their sauce, which does help cool down the spice a bit. I can handle spice and this definitely has a nice kick. My only complaint is that everything was just so salty. The pickle helped cut through that saltiness a bit. Even then, I was chugging my drink. I've been looking for an excuse to review this spot. I might be biased, because this is ALSO my son's first job. I stopped in on a Wednesday evening. The place was FULLY staffed! And there were a number of customers, too. The person who took my order was friendly, and there were other staff members offering free stickers to the kids coming in the store. I opted for a slider and a tender meal, with cheese fries, and a side of macaroni and cheese. The food was seasoned. The heat on the meat was good. My favorite were the pickles that came with the meal. I'm not sure if these are made in house, but...I am kind of obsessed. They help cut the heat and salt factor in the chicken seasoning. It's got a very urban vibe, and a nice lofty space, so it's cool. I'm wondering if this might be a cool spot for local talent? It's definitely got the potential, either with the courtyard seating, or the spacious interior. I'm excited to see how this place does, and was happy to try a new hot chicken place. This is my only reference point for the chain, so now I'm curious to see how it differs from other locations. Comparisons to come! Came uninvited to their soft opening August 25 Thursday at 5pm, and the place was half empty, despite being in a shopping center with plenty of parking. 25 Southern California Yelp locations. The Hollywood location has 3365 Yelp reviews! Typical fast-food joint, with overhead menu. No line out the door, and no line at the counter. Place is spotlessly clean, with just vacated tables having no leftover debris, and floors clean with no dropped food. Didn't try the bathrooms. Lots of seating both inside and outside, sharing outdoor tables with sun umbrellas with Rubio's Fish Tacos next door. Very limited menu with only three choices: #1 two tenders $12.99, #2 two sliders $14.99, #3 one tender one slider $13.99, which I ordered with hot spiciness. Meals come with fries, but I subbed kale slaw at no extra charge, and got a tiny 4-ounce plastic cup for tap water. No charge -don't laugh, some places don't give you tap water, like the Chinese place I reviewed in Anaheim. You can also order a la carte, fries $3.49, kale slaw $3.99, slider $6.99, tender $4.99, $2.49 bottled water, $5.99 milk shake. The tender is chicken on a slice of white bread. The slider is a decent size sandwich maybe 5" in diameter with a filet of chicken breast. Less than 5 minutes waiting before my meal comes out. The white meat chicken comes mildly breaded, with a spicy powder sauce on the very lightly breaded sides. A bit on the dry side, but juicy enough, tender, and fresh tasting. Taste almost like bbq powder you see on bbq chips, with a hint of paprika powder. Chicken is good sized, and one order of the #3 meal with fries would feed two average eaters. I got the hot spicy level, which caused me to have sweaty forehead, watery eyes and runny nose. Wouldn't dare try the extra hot let alone the reaper heat. Would be carrying me out in a body bag. I placed my order at 11:02 (one the first 10 to order) and waited about 30 minutes to get my food. Bummer the bread (slider bun + toast that came with the tender) was cold though. I'm sure my sliders would've tasted a looot better if everything was warm/hot. The chicken tenders itself was very well seasoned and juicy. I did hear one of the staff apologizing that the toaster broke down, hence the long wait, but I had assumed that was fixed because I still waited quite a bit of time to receive my order. Fries were good, but a bit on the saltier side. I ordered Daves #3, which comes with a slider, tender on toast, and fries. I liked that we could choose different spice level within the same order. Medium has a good hint of spice. I did notice that the chicken in the slider is slightly smaller than the tender though, but maybe that was just a coicidence. I had been thinking about trying out Dave's for awhile but never had an opportunity til one opened up near me. I placed an order online the night before (a girl needed to commit, y'know). They told me that unfortunately the fryers were down and they may not get my order, but would refund me if needed. Cue sadness, ya gurl committed to this dinner the night before and was now scrolling through options in her head of what else could scratch that Nashville hot chicken itch. But alas, the Hot Chicken Gods were smiling upon me that day. My order was the cut off and had made it into the fryer before they malfunctioned! Got my piping hot food 2 minutes later and off I went. First impressions, that's a beautiful looking tender, and that in no way is a slider. The slider is a normal sized sandwich! Great deal. Decided to get medium spicy, I like it hot but know to test the waters at new restaurants before diving into the deep end. You can always add hot sauce, but you can't subtract the heat. Sometimes good ig photos can fool you on quality but I thought it tasted good as it looked. I didn't want to get disappointed on not being spicy so I got the next level up: HOT. All I could think about was, "I should have never read yelp first and just got medium" Hot was bearable but still too spicy to enjoy. I can't believe there's two more levels above hot. My stomach could never. First time here, I ordered the #3 which comes with one slider, one tender, with fries. "Slider" really means a whole chicken sandwich. I thought it was a bit much so one or the other would be fine with me. Second time here, I ordered a #1 two tenders with fries. Spice level: medium. This was a good portion size and spice level. FINALLY a Daves hot chicken in Sunnyvale!! I've been here so many times ever since it opened and I'm obsessed! This is located in a big plaza with tons of parking. If you order online, they have a side window to pick up your order which is convenient. Inside they have a lot of seating and it is clean and decorated. Once my number was called the worker greeted me with order and asked if I wanted sauces (honey, ketchup, Dave's sauce). Order in hand I was on my way. The fries are good but nothing out of the ordinary. The seasoning and the dipping sauce were fine. The chicken to breading ratio was equal but the chicken was stringy. A couple more minutes of cooking and it would have reached the right consistency. The chicken slider with the combination of the coleslaw and pickles and Dave's sauce was just fine. The medium flavor tasted like a sweet heat. I enjoyed it more than the mild. I like spice but not tongue numbing spice because then I can't enjoy my food. The line moves quickly. Plenty of tables to fit groups of people. There's also seating outdoors. The tables need more attention. The table I sat on had packets of ketchup and crumbs everywhere. As of this review, Dave's Hot Chicken had just opened up their new location in San Jose, and that reminded me about the first time I had it here at Sunnyvale. I got myself their #1 (2 tenders w/ fries) ($13). The order came with sliced bread, pickles, and Dave's sauce. I requested my tenders at medium heat. Despite how established the spicy chicken market is in the Bay Area, I still feel like Dave's approach to it is ingenious. We could talk about the crinkle-cut fries being well-seasoned and crispy or the pickles being crunchy and salty, but those side items are there to complement the main star of the show: the chicken. Even the plain white bread--which I admit, I've seen many complaints about it and I would say it's not my favorite item--works as a vessel for the chicken and replacing or substituting that out completely changes my order's core identity. And with the honey and Dave's sauce provided with the order, I really couldn't ask for anything more. My order was meant to be harmonious with the chicken, and even without everything said here, the chicken can stand on its own. When I tried my friend's tenders (he requested his at hot), I noticed that they use a different spice rub. It's nice to know the place has different spice rubs for different heat levels. The staff is very friendly and speedy. You can wait 15 minutes in line, but also get your food in 1/5th of that time. The interior is clean and well-ventilated, and there are plenty of outdoor seating available. Their water is clean, and that's usually something I rarely comment about. I'm glad this Socal chain decided to expand to the Norcal market. Couldn't imagine life here without some Dave's Hot Chicken. Give it a shot if you haven't already! read more

This is a new chicken tenders place (I know it has chicken sliders but mostly it's just a tender served as a slider). Unfortunately, it also means it only serves white meat and the only way to make it flavorful is with fried breading along with spicy sauce. The sauces are not bad but a little flaky. There are multiple levels and medium is fairly good as the spice doesn't overpower the flavor of the chicken tender (albeit it's only flavorless white meat). Btw, there is no drink included in the combos. What I don't like is the default payment tablet that asks for tips for a fast food restaurant although you can find the "no tip" option hidden in a small font at the bottom. Tipping culture is getting ridiculous as it was originally meant for people paid under minimum wages. Anyways, I didn't remove any stars because of it. read more

Made a point to come to the grand opening with my husband, and we were not disappointed! There was a line out the door, and folks from their team were walking around, thanking us for waiting, managing the line/capacity inside, and overall it moves pretty quickly. Ordering was pretty easy as they have three different options with your various combinations of tenders and sliders. We ordered mild and hot, and grabbed a couple packets of honey in addition to the Dave's sauce that each order comes with. Considering how busy they were, our order came out within 10 minutes. Chicken was fresh, thick, seasoned well, and nice and crispy. If you're expecting a breading as thick as Popeyes, you won't get it, but it actually carried the seasoning very well. Orders with tenders come with a slice of bread, the fries are seasoned, and they give you extra pickles on the side. As we were eating folks from their staff were walking around wiping tables and making sure we can was clean, and checking in with folks to ask other people as price. The only cons are that it's walking distance from our apartment, and they are open late especially on weekends. :) Obviously priceier than somewhere like Popeyes or Chick-fil-A, but considering the artwork and how they've established their dining area, it does feel a step above. We will be back, and are grateful that we got to try them out! read more

Came here during their soft opening, and was surprised to see there wasn't a long line already! The servers were super friendly, and I got their #1 which is 2 tenders with fries. The food came pretty quickly, but I had a chance to look at the decor. Everything is clean and bright, and it's got a vibrant vibe as well. I took it to go so didn't get to enjoy the ambiance too much. Couldn't wait to dig in once I got home! I got the tenders in a medium spiciness level, which has got a decent kick but not too much. Next time I may try one level higher. One thing I do have to say is the tenders were a bit on the salty side, hopefully that was just a glitch and next time would be better. Will definitely come back when I have a fried chicken craving! read more

Came inside to order because their website wasn't working despite having "successfully" used apple pay as an option. That said, I thought going in to order would mean that it will come out crispy & fresh so I didn't mind. I opened the box right after ordering so I could eat in my car. I've had Dave's hot chicken in Vegas before so when I saw that there was one in Sunnyvale I was so excited. To my disappointment, service was forceful & the staff member just looked annoyed the entire time. Twice she told me her name and said to call her if I needed anything, but not once did a smile cross her face. Anyway, I care less about that and more about the quality of the food. I got the spicy option and it was hardly seasoned. On top of that, it should've been crispy since I opened it right away. But to my dismay, all TEN pieces of the ten piece bites came out super oily and SOGGY asf. The piece of bread that they put on the bottom was completely drenched in the oil from the chicken yet it was still soggy and soft. Soft chicken is disgusting. Definitely not coming back here. Might have better luck in Vegas again. read more

Best bang for your buck!! Get Dave's #2 which comes with two "sliders" and fries and share it with a friend for ~$15! Honestly a perfect meal for two if you're not feeling too hungry for lunch or if you just want a snack bc the sliders are a pretty decent size. The seasoning on the chicken was pretty good - I usually never know what to expect so it can be a bit or miss but it was flavorful and did not have the bitterness of smoked paprika/other spices like other places. Fries were crinkle cut and super crispy (maybe a bit oversalted though). We loved that we could get two different spice levels which made sharing even easier!! We got both mild and a medium sandwich and medium to me wasn't as hot as expected but still a tiny burn. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! read more
