One of the biggest reasons I enjoyed this place was because it was open at 4 in the afternoon on a sunday. I was originally going to try ess-a-bagel to help me cure my hangover from saturday night, but it was closed, so I wandered down 1st and found this place. It's cash only, which was fine, and they took there time making my egg and cheese bagel. The bagel was really good. The cheese tasted a bit to processed for my taste though. So good meal + being open to help with my kickin hangover= thank you david's bagels. read more

David's has spoiled me for all other bagels. I've only gone in the mornings so always have the bagels while they are still hot and fresh, but why would you eat a bagel any other way? It's an old school place with classic drip coffee, some bagels and a variety of schmears and that's about it. And that's how it should be. read more

this place has gone from bad to worse...the staff is rude and unprofessional...the food is not fresh...had to throw away about a half pound of turkey breast after only a few days...same with the nova...smelled old and fishy right after I brought it home...my brother ordered salmon spread and right in front of him, they mixed in cream cheese, I guess to cut it and save a few pennies...stay away!!!! read more

What a relief to be back in New York and bite into a real bagel instead of those round rolls with holes in the center that go by the same name in Boston! David's makes very decent bagels. My favorite is the whole wheat everything bagel with whitefish salad. Amazing. I was considering giving only four points because of the decor, but, hey, it's a bagel shop, and it looks authentic. I think these are some of the best bagels in the city, especially if you live right around the corner from them. The ten cents for toasting is worth it, and they are fast fast fast. I get the teeny carton of extra vitamin C tropicana when I am feeling under the weather. They put a ton of cream cheese on (practically a full ice cream scoop-sized blob), so if you only like a little, tell them when you order and they will be happy to accomodate you. How come there aren't too many reviews on this place? I was surprised to see Asian folks running a bagel shop, but they were very friendly. When I got there, people were lined up outside the door, but the service was really quick. I had a breakfast bagel with eggs and bacon on everything. That was the ultimate breakfast. You have so many choices of things you want your bagel(from cream cheese to all kinds of fish). I'd definitely go back once I find myself in NYC again. read more

This place was bought by an Asian family from the original Jewish owner, and although there is another unrelated David's up the street on 1st ave, this one is better. The bagels are fresh. The service is efficient, queue in line, order from the men who work the oven, grill and bagel bar, then move to the ladies who take your money and get you your drinks. There are some first timers who can't figure this pattern out, but the service is not soup nazi style. I like it because it is close to the hospital I work at and it is the best bagel, and best service, family style.. better than Essa Bagel. read more

It IS a hole in the wall but it is precisely when your expectations are low that you're pleasantly surprised. So maybe I shouldn't be writing this positive review which may raise your expectations but I digress ... If you need something quick cheap and healthy, grab a bagel sandwich from David's. Friendly, quick service was the first thing I noticed. My poppy seed, turkey bagel sandwich was simple and delicious. The guy carved the turkey in front of me and gave me a ton of meat. Came in after reading some good reviews and there was a line of about 15/20 people. I had my girlfriend sit donw to save us a seat, which wasn't even necessary because they have a good amount of seating and most people take it to-go anyway. The line moved pretty fast and my bagels were made and brought to my table in no time. I ordered a bacon/egg/cheese and a lox/cream cheese on a poppy and sesame seed, respectively. Both were exactly what I was hoping for. Thick, hearty bagels with a crunchy outside and a doughy inside. The bacon was cooked extra crispy and cheese was plentiful and gooey. The other bagel was good as well. I'm sure I could get better lox in the city if i ventured off but it was all I needed at the time. Anytime I'm hungover or craving a good bagel this will mostly likely be where I end up. read more

David's Bagels will make you wonder why you ever waited in that damn Tompkins Square Bagels line. Waiting at Dave's takes 10 minutes, max, plus they accept cards ($5 minimum), and their bagels are always hot & fluffy (don't have to get them toasted). Reasonably priced (Bagel and coffee ends up being around $7) and uplifting ambiance - everyone is always in a good mood. One note: they do not have gluten-free bagels, but they do have about 3-4 different flavors of tofu cream cheese! Dave's is the best, highly recommend. read more

Not a huge fan of Tompkin square bagels, so I tried this place instead. Great find! If you keep your order simple (toasted bagel with plain cream cheese + a small coffee), you'll spend less than $4! Amazing bagels. I recommend the whole wheat everything bagel. They use the perfect amount of cream cheese (I like a good amount). I once requested bacon on my bagel with cream cheese and they made it perfectly with broken up bits that were perfectly crispy. I also recommend their lox bagel. I won't be going anywhere else for my bagels in this area. read more

Why anyone would eat here when Ess a Bagel is literally down the street is beyond me. Their bagels are somewhat expensive and are kind of bland-ish. I suppose it's kind of cool that they have "flat" bagels, but they are flat in taste, as well. Additionally, they only accept cash. If you're morally opposed to waiting in line/are to hungover to deal with the crowds at Ess a Bagel, I can understand why people would come here, but beyond that you're much better off walking down the street. read more

I prefer david's over ess-a-bagel because they have egg bagels, they toast, it's cheaper, and the bagel's over all softness is easier for me to chew, not to mention they make amazing breakfast sandwiches like ham egg and Swiss cheese. Yumm! read more

I'm really confused why this place has good reviews. The bagels were mediocre at best. The plain bagel had no flavor, and both bagels we had were chewy. The lox sandwich was uninspired and incomplete without the option of onions and capers. The coffee was pretty bad, I regretted not going to the dunks across the street. Finally, the menu was a little confusing and the service wasn't too great. It's probably a 2 star place, I'm hoping my 1 star review will help the average be more accurate. read more

the bagels are definately good and so is the cream cheese and selection. My gripe is that while it is good, i prefer my stuff with extra cream cheese (I love the stuff), however, they just won't do it. I did get annoyed and eventually told the guy "listen, I always order extra cream cheese and you never put it on.....if you are going to charge me for it, then put it on" (they ALWAYS charge you for it, ALWAYS) then he'll put it on. Anyway, its annoying to have to do that. I wish they would have just done it. btw, if you don't tell them anything they always go very light on the cream cheese. (for me anyway) They won't, so I stopped going there. Now I go to essa bagel a few blocks away. You don't even have to ask for extra cheese, they just put a lot on always.......extra is too much even for me. In summary, if you like your bagels with a good amount of cream cheese then this isn't the place for you. They don't do extra cheese, and then it becomes a rip off, as they charge an extra dollar for extra cheese and don't put the extra cheese on it. If you are going to buy the bagels by the dozen, then go ahead, the bagels are very good. read more

Ordered a western omelette on a garlic bagel and it was amazing. I had Murray's Bagel the other day and ordered the exact same thing and this was tasted a lot better. Although Murray's had a better atmosphere, the food here tastes better. Would have been better if the decor was better. read more

The food was ok. It arrived luke warm, but was edible. My issue was the delivery guy. He came back to my door and told me the price on seamless was wrong and demanded an extra dollar. He couldn't explain why and wedged his foot into my door refusing to let me close my door to even get him the dollar. I gave him the dollar and will never order food from them again. I don't like delivery people trying to force their way into my home in a threatening manner and I believe seamless generally gets the prices right. read more

These are great bagels in manhattan. Lived here for 5 years and this is the spot I recommend to anyone who visits. Get the whole wheat everything bagels they are amazing. Some of the best Lox Ive had period. Got my default, toasted everything with flavored cream cheese and Lox. It was darn good, probably will be my go to place from now on. The lines can get long but the staff is efficient. Staff is also very friendly. There is a seating area, sometimes that area can get crowded as well. The only drawback for me was that Ive had better cream cheese elsewhere but still everything else makes up for it. Prices are standard. read more

Delicious bagels!!! So chewy and soft on the inside, and the teeniest crisp on the outside. They're so nice and plump that the bagel hole looks more like a crinkle in the ball of dough, but that just means that there's more bagel for your mouth.
