Such a great addition to downtown Hoboken! Have now been here a number of different times for drinks and dinner. I'm always impressed by the drink quality. They really know what they're doing. The cocktail menu is extensive and pleases all tastes. They do have a happy hour menu and specials almost every day of the week. My go-to is the "Dear Maud." Drinks seems to rotate on and off the menu with the seasons, but this one's been holding strong. They even have a few mocktails to choose from that are equally as good! For food we've tried the flatbreads (the buffalo chicken is the best one), we LOVE the Brussel sprouts, bao buns, pastas, fried shrimp, burger and crispy rice. I like how the menu has something for everyone. Great for sharing or grabbing a bite at the bar with a few drinks. Only downside here is it can be very loud inside. Like so loud if you have a group of people, you might not be able to hear each other well. I recommend sitting at the bar over a table and coming for more causal occasion rather than a site down dinner. read more

Finally tried out Dear Maud on a Friday night with two girlfriends. It was hard to come by a reservation during prime time when booking a week out, but luckily with Resy you can setup an alert so we snagged a table when there was a cancelation. When we arrived at 8:30 pm, we were immediately seated at our table which was in the back corner, directly in front of the back bar station. The space has had a major glow up since the Pourhouse days. They leveled out the floor in back; beautifully decorated; bathrooms were nicely redone. The volume/music was on the louder-side, so it was very hard to hear each other without talking really loudly, practically yelling. At least the tunes they were playing were good. The entire space was packed; all of the tables taken, bar completely full. It also felt like there were was a ton of staff working there - I kept seeing waiters and runners going back and forth. All of the waiters were men and their uniforms were pretty casual - tee shirts with athleisure shorts and sneakers, some with baseball caps. The only two women we saw working there were the two hostesses. Since it was the first time there for all of us, we ordered a bunch of different small plates. Their menu is very eclectic and mostly shareables, although they do have some entrée salads and burger/sandwiches. We enjoyed pretty much everything we ordered and everything came out the right temperature and good presentation. For our first go around, we ordered the Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna (4 pieces), Ceviche, and the Crispy Chicken Bao buns (4 pieces). The ceviche was incredible and my favorite dish of night. For our second round, we paired the Burrata with the Sweet, Salty Spicy Flatbread. The buratta was the other standout from the night. They should consider giving at least another piece of bread with it (only came with two pieces of toast). The bao buns were our least favorite dish- nothing wrong with them, just can get betters one elsewhere. For drinks, two of us tried the Dear Maud and the other tried the Ditch. Both drinks were excellent. Service was really good throughout the entire meal; every time our water bottle was empty, a new one immediately reappeared. I love that they reused the Cotes des Roses rose wine bottles for water. Overall, we all had a great time trying out Dear Maud and will be back again. Would be a good spot for a girl's night out or a date night. A very welcome addition to Hoboken and I am glad to finally see something in the space. read more

The highlights of this place are definitely the drinks and the vibes. During the day it's a busy restaurant so remember to make a reservation! And nighttime it turns into a moody bar with good music and dancing. Passed by this place while biking in Hoboken and decided to stop to get some dinner. The exterior is very inviting, with tables and chairs set up for people to sit outside. The interior is just as inviting - such cute decor and very modern looking. It was very busy even on a Monday night. We started out with the watermelon mule, which was balanced well in flavor. We decided to order a bunch of things to share. We got the: burrata, crispy spicy tuna rice (my fave!!), spicy sweet salty flatbread, and a $3 pork belly bao bun (Monday special). The entire meal was so tasty and seasoned very well. The spicy tuna crispy rice was amazing, only note would be to add more tuna! Everything else was delicious. The only thing that didn't hit the mark for us was the flatbread. Too much cheese, not enough sauce, too little meat. Otherwise it was a pretty decent meal. On the site of former bar O'Donoghue's, The Inn & Little Town Social comes a new incantation from the owners of Jackdaw in NYC - Dear Maud. Finally, downtown Hoboken gets a new upscale cocktail bar with a nice menu to match. The rectangular bar has been updated to light pine hardwood, and looks snazzy under the copper burnished fixtures surrounding it. The walls are colored in a Irish Green. Classic rock is the music of choice with selections from Stealers Wheel, Bob Marley and Spin Doctors (they played "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" twice while I was there, to my chagrin). Started my visit with the signature drink "Dear Maud", which was Blanco Tequila, El Silencio Mezcal, Lime, Pineapple, Agave in a glass rimmed with Tajin seasoning (chile lime). This is a must order. Smoky, sour, limey with a hint of sweetness. Sounds like a woman i'd like to meet. I give it a 8.3 out of 10. Ordered the ceviche to start. I remember once I was in London and my friends told me a place I had to visit to try the ceviche. The ceviche at Dear Maud blows that out of the water. Comes with mango, minced veggies (peppers, onions, jalapeno). Lime doesn't overpower it. Love the lightly fried "won ton" chips. Really good portion size. Another "must order" if you are here. Give it a 9.3 out of 10. Tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Note that it should be called the Korean Style Chicken Sandwich. While the chicken was fried, the korean sweet chili makes it instantly soggy and overpowers the sandwich. Kind of messy. Might be considered something for a late night "drunk" order versus something to have at 6pm. Comes with string fries, and they didn't include ketchup on the plate or on the bar. The fries remind me, in a good way, of McDonald fries. Give this a 6.4 out of 10. Had a "Gonne Sour", which is their signature whiskey sour. Made with Irish Whiskey. It was light, airy, not overpowering. A nice way to spend an afternoon. Reminds me of something i'd order in Paris with sitting in a cafe overlooking the River Seine. Would order this again, 7.8 out of 10. To end my meal had a Pornstar Martini. Sweet. Lush. Decadent. Sour hit the back of my throat like a deep kiss. Like a pornstar the sweetness can be cloying. Might not be a good choice if you don't like something young and sweet. Three of these would be something you may regret in the morning, but I suggest you keep it to one pornstar a night - or maybe two if you're under 30. Overall, I would say this is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I look forward to trying more items on the menu. The cocktails alone should entice you to come here. Great bar service, but be warned that it can be somewhat slower than a "bro bar" since the bartenders are making cocktails not slinging Yuenglings and Jamo shots. Total cost for the appetizer and entree, with three drinks was about $85 (not including tip). While many Hobokenities cry over how expensive things are here - you must realize this isn't a TGI Fridays in the New Jersey suburbs. Time will tell if this will be a mainstay or suffer the fate of other upscale bars before it, but right now i'd say it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and the changing demographics of Hoboken. read more

We went there for the first time this afternoon. The ambience is attractive, though the music was quite a bit louder than I would have preferred. The menu has a good variety of food. I ordered French Dip. The presentation was appealing, but it didn't take long to realize that the steak slices on the sandwich were very fatty. I spoke to the server, and she offered to replace the sandwich. Initially, I agreed, but then I realized there was a more than likely chance the new slices would be from the same source and equally fatty. I cancelled the French Dip and just ordered a side dish of fries (at a cost of $9.00). In the meantime, my husband was thoroughly enjoying his meal of Bucatini. I think this place is a great bar and dance ambiance but the food could use a little work. Admittedly I did arrive just as the kitchen was closing but I really did not enjoy the food experience. The shrimp bao buns really tasted like nothing and I ended up eating the shrimp alone. The nachos were a bit soggy. The burrata was not served with bread. Since we came as the kitchen was closing they sent the food to our table ahead of time and when we arrived we were taken to the table. I am wondering how the food was made so quickly (less than 8 mins is what they said) if it was being made fresh? This turned me off a bit. When we got to the table we didn't get a chance to order a drink until a few mins later when I was told they need to close out the check before we even started eating. I was a bit surprised. The drinks were good, I personally got the earl grey vodka infused drink. I was surprised about the size. Overall I would not get food here again but would stay for the late night dance vibes. Went here for the first time for dinner and drinks. We got five different appetizers, all of which were amazing. If you try anything try the brussel sprouts and the fried chicken bao buns. Drinks were also amazing but didn't have much alcohol in them. I had three martinis and felt fine (which is not a thing for me) Service was slightly slow and we had multiple items on our bill that weren't ours so watch out for that. The atmosphere was great. Stopped in for a casual Friday lunch. Everything was fine / good, and I would recommend it (and will likely go again myself), just nothing stood out. It's a pretty space - we sat in the back room which was bright and airy. Service was very laid back. Maybe because it was lunch, I got more of a California cafe vibe than speakeasy (which I think I recall hearing it marketed as when it was opening). Might be different in the evening or at night. I tried the curried cauliflower bites and Italian flatbread. I enjoyed the cauliflower which had a bit of crispness and some heat. The flatbread was ok - it was a bit bulky. I've been here a handful of times, and I've had great service and good drinks. The bartenders seem knowledgeable and are quick enough to check in when needed. I also really love the decor - this place is huge for a Hoboken spot, and it's really cute and cozy inside. It's a great date spot. HOWEVER, there is nothinggggg I can eat here. There isn't anything vegan on the menu-- even the salads and fries come with dairy. This place looks like it has an interesting food menu, so it's disappointing that they can't put the same effort into adding some good vegan options to the menu (and I'm not talking about a salad with olive oil or a dry veggie burger lol gimme something fun pls). My girlfriend and I would love to make this one of our regular local spots, but unfortunately we can't stay here for more than one or two drinks because we always need to leave to go elsewhere if we want to eat something. This place is absolutely beautiful, clean, modern, and organized. The staff is kind and give out good vibes. The bathroom was fully stocked and clean for both of my experiences. The extreme downside to this place is the lack of flavor in their food. Everything tasted super plain and in-sufficiently seasoned. The drinks are ok. It was better one time over the other time. I feel there is a consistency issue with the alcohol beverages like the mixed cocktails. I appreciate how clean and nicely decorated the place is but its not enough to earn 4 or 5 stars. The food is just basic to me and nothing special. If the food was legit better tasting they would truly be top tier, but personally to me its just not that great. I invited 3 different guests the two times I went and each of them agreed with my pro's and con's. Food tasting well is a really big part of a restaurant experience- I struggled with deciding if I felt this place deserved 2 or 3 stars. At last I have decided to rate 3 stars because I really do believe this place has potential to offer better food. Just because food looks pretty doesn't mean it tastes as good as it looks. Walked around the strip of Hoboken on a Monday, Presidents' Day, and couldn't find anything. Passed by and saw that this place was packed and also served food besides alcohol so I decided to give this place a try. So when I got here, I noticed that there was available seating. I didn't have to wait long. The hostess was courteous. The bartender took my order and had a very vibrant personality. Menu was compact easier to make a decision. I ordered he Pilsner light beer don't know the exact name. For food I ordered the cheeseburger and Grains and Green from the "Sandwiches, Bowl, Salads" menu. I just got the name of the light beer. It's called Victory Pilsner. It's light and crisp. Tasted really good. I recommend this to whoever likes light beer when they visit here. Best greens and grains ever! WTF. The burgers and fries weren't bad either. The chef is really good at what he does. Donovan was a great server and didn't leave hours waiting. I would come back. I hope it stays consistent like this. The quinoa was delicious, generous portion of avocado, perfectly ripe, warm cooked chickpeas. Tasty but not overly filling, so you felt satisfied not stuffed. Loved the loud boisterous atmosphere. Fast service. Had a mocktail, orange vanilla - tasty and refreshing. The only problem in Hoboken is parking. That is the downside. Our second time at Dear Maud was just as great as the first! The Brussel sprouts could very well be one of the best things we've ever eaten. The Margarita Picante could sound like a lot with the pineapple and apple flavoring in it but it tastes like a perfect balance of a spicy and semi-sweet margarita. read more
