Staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. When I came in, I was greeted with "what's the name for your reservation?" And not hello, good evening, or how are you. The bouncers were also very rude and again did not greet anyone and instead was just asking for IDs. Quite the atmosphere during the holidays if you ask me (Safe to mention I wasn't wished a happy holidays either). Drinks took forever, bathrooms were dirty. Food was mediocre at best. I would never recommends this place to anyone unless they are trying to waste money on poor service, unhealthy environments, and bad food and drink. As an Instagram addict, Dear Maud found its way to my discover page and instantly grabbed my attention. I immediately started to follow and then continued to watch their posts and stories and fell in love with the brand and their images of food and atmosphere.  Finally, we made a reservation with friends to celebrate a birthday for a Friday night in Hoboken.  To start, we were 20 minutes late for our reservation. It was a Friday night going to Hoboken, should take me 20 minutes but we gave ourselves 45 minutes for traffic and turns out we should have allotted more time. We called the restaurant while en route and they were more than accommodating. When we got there we were immediately seated and began to enjoy the night.  The food was AMAZING. We started with the bang bang wings, pork belly bao buns and crispy rice with spicy tuna. Then as a meal, I had the cheeseburger - chef's kiss. Everything was so delicious.  The atmosphere is really fun and cute but the space was also EXTREMELY crowded. I know it was Friday night in a city, but we had young girls literally standing next to our tables while we were trying to eat (like their behinds were quite literally nice to our faces).  Our waiter was adorable, but the service was slow. I had to track him down for a second drink. Then after we finished our entrees and wanted a third round and dessert (it was a birthday celebration) we were brought our check. No one even asked us how our food was (which was good, we LOVED IT!) They wanted us out so they could transition into the bar scene. We understood - but we felt pushed away, it would have been nice to have been informed about that. In our opinion, we are giving them the benefit of the doubt. They are a new restaurant in a busy area, - they just need to work out some kinks. The food is worth another shot! read more

Came here for brunch and really enjoyed the ambience. Def giving NYC vibes. There's not a ton of food choices on the brunch menu, but what they offer is good! Such a beautiful establishment unfortunately my partner and I did not have an enjoyable experience. As the only black people at the bar, it truly felt as though the bartenders and staff were not accustomed to serving black individuals. There were moments where we tried our hardest to get the attention of our servers to order a cocktail and we were blatantly ignored. But the customers who were of a lighter hue, did not have the same issue. It was so uncomfortable but we were determined to not allow PREJUDICE to run us out of a place that we deserved to be in. Our money is just as green, so we couldn't comprehend what the issue was. As a tip to the owner or manager, please do a better job at diversifying the restaurant/bar and make other people who don't look like the majority of Hoboken welcome to come and dine as well. First: I'm married and in my mid-30s. I'm trying to stay on a low-carb diet. Perhaps I'm not the target customer. And I came around 8 on a Monday. But I've been going to the various incarnations of Pour House for more than 10 years. When they finally gave up on the damp sports bar vibe and decided to class things up with a full reno and new ownership, I was really hoping something upscale but friendly and not budget-breaking would move in to compete with the obnoxious Antique place down the road. I'm not sure they've succeeded. Yet. They've certainly classed up the interior. The seating areas make sense. They kept the huge center bar island. The finishes are refined without being pretentious. There are gorgeous windows everywhere. It's no longer a dark sports bar. Not a single TV in the place. The music is turned up about 3 notches too high for dinner but would be fine for just a bar. It's similar in vibe to Antique but without the obnoxious pretense and arrogant management. The drinks are fine. Decent Margaritas for $8 (Monday special, regularly $14). Frozen margs were also on the $8 special, but they were so sweet they were almost inedible. All of their signature cocktails ($14) are pre-mixed and not made fresh. So you can't, say, go light on the sugar. I would have tried more, but the service was too slow. The food was meh. The $12 wings were decently cooked, but they were small and about 4 too few. They were covered in a sickly-sweet sauce which I'd get on the side next time. The $14 ceviche had good texture but was extremely salty. The chips served with the ceviche cut the salt, but not great if you're trying to limit your carbs. The menu is small and frankly not very well-considered. Three kinds of bao buns? Nearly everything is a sandwich, breaded, deep-fried, or served with fries (which seems to be the only side)? Their "adult" entree seems to be a half chicken served with fries for $20-something. Perhaps I'll try that with a salad or something next time. Then there's the service. The poor waitress was apparently the only waitperson working for the evening. After 15 minutes we got our first drink. Another 20 and we got our appetizers. Then another 5-10 for our second round of drinks. After 45 minutes we'd had only 2 drinks and appetizers. We were pretty tired of shouting over the music for dinner convo and trying to figure out how to cut some of the carbs out of the remaining items, so we decided to call it and try again later. Then you pay with their little phone gizmo which seems goofy and awkward. Overall I will try Dear Maud again but perhaps after a couple more months. I hope they can refine their menu a bit to have a few more (somewhat) healthy options, change at least some of their $14 cocktails to be freshly-made, and get a few more waitstaff. New restaurants take a while to figure things out, so I will be patient. I will happily update my review in a month or two after another visit. read more

I came with a few friends on a Friday night and really enjoyed my experience! It's nice to see a cocktail bar in downtown Hoboken. The decor inside is so nice and there was a DJ as well. It gets very packed on the weekends so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We ordered drinks first and I started with an espresso martini and it was delicious! For entree, two of us ordered the Italian flatbread without meat, and the rest of the party ordered vodka pasta and the steak skewers. Dear Maud is probably one of the cutest bars in Hoboken. They have a great happy hour special Mon to Fri until 7pm. I really enjoyed the apple old fashion, and they also have a selection of HH wine and cocktails. We had the hummus bowl as a snack which was great, and also want to return to try more of their dinner items (the spicy rigatoni & buffalo bites) and brunch. Came here for brunch on a rainy Saturday. Brunch menu is only offered on the weekends till 3:30 & it's extremely small, about 10-15 options & no appetizer options except French toasts sticks. For a late brunch meal, there should be more lunch style options other then the salad, chicken or burger. We asked if we could order off the dinner menu & they said only at 4:30. While the food was good, the service was pretty slow & it was not that crowded but we still had to track down the waitstaff in order to re order drinks. We also didn't have a consistent one server, so we weren't sure who even to ask. We had 3 different servers over our 2.5 hour meal. The atmosphere is amazing & I would like to come back for dinner to see the additional options but there is room for improvement for brunch. read more

This place is exactly what I was hoping for in terms of a really cool cocktail spot. It is the sister restaurant to jackdaw in the East Village which I absolutely love. I stopped by for some drinks and appetizers with a friend and I was not disappointed. I was having some margaritas which were very very good the bartender even changed up the recipe a few times to have me taste what I thought was better. In addition I also had one of the flatbreads which came out extremely fast which wasn't concerning it was actually very nice and the food seems super fresh. Went this past Tuesday 12/27/22 with a group of 8 ladies. We were very exited to try the place as it is new. Sad to say horrible experience, will never return back. racist staff who was very rude. And mind you there's literally no alcohol in the cocktails as overpriced as they are pompous, Dear Maud's atmosphere is dark and chaotic, the drinks are overpriced and tiny, and it's so loud you cannot even speak to the people in your party. To top it off The manager might have been Irish, accused me of having a fake ID? I've lived in NJ my whole life and recently moved to nyc. He must of never seen a New York ID before. The way he approached me was absolutely disrespectful. He didn't even bother to ask me blatantly accused me because I look young. If this is a brand new business maybe they would invest in scanner machines. Had to go back and forth with him for over 10 minutes when I finally had to show a picture of my passport to prove my age. Went to Dear Maud today. The ambiance and decor were nice, however, the service was not. The hostess was welcoming and politely showed us to a table. Our server, Terry Thompson, came over some time after to take our order but was not very welcoming. Throughout the entire time we dined, he never introduced himself, never smiled, didn't seem friendly, his service was slow, and we didn't even get a "have a good night". We asked for extra ketchup and didn't get it until we asked a second time. Towards the end of our dinner I ordered another drink and was waiting for about 25-30 mins before I decided we should just leave because it didn't seem like I would get the drink. During that time, Terry walked past our table multiple times and not once said anything to the effect of "i'm sorry your drink is taking longer than expected". So I asked for the check and tipped an amount that was reflective of the poor service. Keep in mind this was on a Sunday at 8 pm, aka not very busy. Not sure if Terry T. was having a bad day, but the service was not good. I've worked as a server before and would have never given such bad service even on my worst day. read more
