I almost don't want to give De Bell a 5 star rating just to keep people away. This is a tight, shorter 18 hole coarse. But it's got it's challenges. The classic first tee box looks out over the valley with drop down dog leg left fairway. The fairways are usually in good condition as are the greens ( if they're not aerating the greens). The club house is top notch. The food is awesome. The pro shop is small but well stocked. The prices are super fair. My only grievance would be the driving range. I understand that with the drought and the recent fires it's been more than difficult to keep it nice. But if they really wanted to make this place draw more players, the range is where you sink your money. If they installed artificial turf to hit to or seeded the area it would rock. I believe Burbank has dialed back all of the watering restrictions. But, what the driving range REALLY needs to get more golfers up there is shade over the hitting stalls. A simple line of vinyl shade covers with misters would attract golfers in the heat of summer and those days when you want to hit a bucket but don't because of the temperature. If it wasn't for the hour drive from the Southbay, I'd probably play here more often but both times were fun. Fairly good pace on the weekend. Don't recommend walking the course because of all the elevation but I'm sure if you're a local and play here enough, you'd get used to it. read more

DRIVING RANGE EXPERIENCE! I just got back from spending a couple of hours at the driving range at De Bell and I will definitely be coming back. Luis at the driving range office is top notch, #1. He was extremely welcoming, friendly, funny and helpful. We also met a great guy at the driving range so even the people that come to DeBell are great!! When you come up the hill the driving range is to your right. I can't wait for my next trip!! read more

This is an excellent golf course! It is challenging but not too difficult, convenient and very reasonably priced.

I'll start by saying this is not my type of course. I'm a grip it and rip it type of player and the front 9 at this place does not suit my game at all. I was able to use my driver once on the front 9. At least 5 of those holes I had to hit the 7 iron off the tee. You'll see a lot of these 290 yard par 4s that have a 90 degree dog leg 180 yards out. That's not fun for me. Since this is a short course it seems like they're trying to add strokes by limiting any real distance off the tee. They also have several 220+ yard par 3's. The back 9 opens up a lot more and ends nicely. The greens while in just ok shape are very firm and fast. I just can't see myself coming back. read more

My husband loves this course and plays here any chance he gets. I personally don't like it because I'm horrible at golf . I seriously lose so many balls here because of the jungle rough they have. I love courses with nice open views and this doesn't have it. It's just so drabby and depressing. Obviously, if you are people like my hub, you don't give a shit about that and just go for the play. He has no complaints and actually think it's a nice looking course. It is definitely a challenging course, at least for me. The range is decent but sometimes packed with high school kids. read more

The de bell driving range is the worst experience I've had yet. The old man that runs the place is SUPER disrespectful. My friend, that is a beginner asked the man for a club, but since he's a beginner he said "stick" and the man laughed at him and made fun of him. There was a really good golfer there and we started clapping and the man came and threatened to kick us out because we were making noise. HORRIBLE! read more

This is a review of the driving range. We arrived at the driving range at 9:10 pm knowing that the posted signs stated that the last bucket was sold at 9:30 pm. We were "greeted" by a grumpy old man whose smelled like tobacco. The greeting was more of a dirty look and a generic salutation, but I digress. I turned and asked my friends how many balls they would like to hit and was interrupted by the old man saying that they close in thirty minutes and we would not be able to get through a medium bucket (60 balls). There were three of us. We looked around at each other and then asked the man if we could purchase 2 medium buckets to split among the three of us. The man responded with a quick, "No! You can't do that!" with the same expression that Clint Eastwood had in Gran Torino when he told those kids to get off his lawn. Quite irritated, I stormed out. It's not like we looked like gangsters or anyone trying to cause trouble. In fact, we were wearing polo shirts. I also had my glasses on which just makes me look like a complete dork. Yes, I understand that there is a possibility that we would take our time and not finish before the driving range would have to close up though we would have most likely finished before closing time of the range (10:00pm). But what got to me was the judgmental attitude and rudeness of the old man at the counter. He could have realized that 120 balls split between 3 people is around 40 balls a person, but his quick response just seemed to tip me over. It would have been nice to write a more comprehensive review of the driving range rather than just a review based on my experience with that old man, but I do not think I will be able to do so, because I refuse to support businesses with rude and unapproachable people. read more

Just an FYI. The range is closed. I usually like to warm up before my round, but couldn't b/c the range is under construction. At any rate the staff was friendly and the course was in pretty good shape except a lot of the tee boxes were uneven. That can throw me a little so it took some adjustment. The pace was on the slow side but not the worst I have ever seen. All and all, a fun and challenging course. Just don't be in a rush and you'll be fine. read more

I've been wanting to play De Bell for some time now and finally had the opportunity this past Friday. The clubhouse and bar/restaurant are very nice and all staff members were friendly professional. It was a holiday Friday so we did expect it to be very busy and sure enough our tee-time was delayed by 10min and it ended up being a 5hr rnd but we were there to have fun and enjoy the cooler weather compared to our usual High Desert golf outings. As for the course, don't let the short yardage fool you, it is very challenging and you must play to the courses design (i.e. shape the ball and play to your strengths). You could actually leave your driver at home and get away with playing a 3-wd off the tee for all par 4s/5s. Only lost 2 balls and still managed to play just over my 12 hdcp. Bottom line: De Bell is a great course for the $$ so go and enjoy the experience; I know we will play it again! read more

Great deal on range balls. $40 for $50 credit (Or 5 Large buckets). Around Thanksgiving, they have massive deals on range memberships. $250 for $500 credit or $400 for $1000 credit. Range is in good shape. I deducted a star because it is mat only. If you don't mind hitting from the mats, this is a great place to hone your game with multiple targets at ideal intervals. Most of the time DeBell is ok. Today, we were on hole 7, par 3, only two of us golfing when the couple that were two or more groups back, rushed through to right behind us...and started teeing off, and the ball came within 5ft from us...they just rushed on and I told them to play through us...because we don't want to be hit with the ball. I then called the clubhouse...and told them, they didn't care one bit. Just told me to have fun..and play...well if I'm being rushed, and almost hit with a ball...that wasn't going to happen. I'm in the midst of lessons and came here one weekend in the afternoon. Great driving range, great canyon course. Super quiet, elevation can be difficult, but it's just to intimidate you. You can get up and down easy, especially on the back 9. Friendly folks. A little expensive if you want to cart it (recommended, bc of the elevation). read more

I recently went to De bell golf course after a long break. I use to be a regular customer and knew the owners and employees very well. However, on my recent visit I was completely disappointed and compelled to write this review. First I made it around the entire front course with out ever once running into a cart girl. Mind you it actually was a hot day, and I was golfing with my father who is elderly. I was so thirsty and aggravated, and the course was completely empty. I still do not understand what she could have been doing. When I finally did get to the cart girl, I mentioned how I was dying of thirst, and I doubted my dad would live to the end of the game. She freaked out and complained of being the only person and not making any money. Which sucks for her but is not MY problem. I also asked where the old cart girl was and she had no idea and had just started. They use to have a very sweet pretty girl, I was truly disappointed with her replacement. So once I got my drinks the girl drove off in the middle of my father of my father putting!!! I made it back to the course and decided to talk to the managers, they were not even on the premises!!! I know it is a family run place and use to have great service. It seems like they care nothing for their customers and will never return. I really wish the city would step in and help before someone dehydrates out there! read more

Love the junior golf program, love the coaches, love the Canyon Grill restaurant. Simply put, you are hard-pressed to find a more pleasant place in LA to spend an afternoon. Cooler temps, wildlife all around, great food and drinks, and great course. read more

Played here for the first time today and this is also my first yelp review because I have been such a free-rider and it's now time for me to do my part in the raving and bashing. Nice scenery and grounds (maintained by Valley Crest), tucked back in a canyon near residential Burbank . This place is cheap in comparison to other courses I have played= 22 bucks on golfnow Friday 12:31 tee time. I actually skipped that deal because I printed out a birthday pass, one of the few places that allows you to play for free minus the 14 dollar cart fee within a week of your bday, weekdays only however. Only problem that day was the slow pace, but a lot of this is due to a few longer par threes, one blind, and of course the non-snooty marshals. Course plays fairly short and I found myself driving the ball to within 170 of a lot of par 4s and 210 on the dog leg right par5 on the back 9. Find a deal & experience this place And unionize Valley Crest and golf course workers to make this place better! read more

Took my Mother, Brother and Nephew out on Friday the 25th. I haven't been here in 20 years and we had a great time. The course was in excellent shape and the greens were fast. There were several deer on site and that was very cool to see. The Marshal was a very nice older gentleman and was interested in our golfing experience on the course and offered a few tidbits to help our play. I will be coming back soon. read more

This course has pretty much become my home course with the short drive over to Burbank. Usually can find a hot deal tee time for whatever time you want to play (I recommend early as it can get pretty backed up). Greens are usually in good shape and roll pretty fast, fairways are well kept. Beautiful course up in the canyons of Burbank. Love hitting the canyon bar / grill after a round for an ice cold brew with the crew. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! Their low rates are tempting but this place has really taken a nose dive which explains the rates. Not just the golf course itself but even the restaurant is horrific. Good luck getting service. Im sorry but the girls working there are clueless. The restaurant closes early half the time and they don't even have a cart out on the course. As for the course itself, broken ball washers, grass never cut, complete lack of maintainance. Only thing they have done well is get a bunch of people together that they know to write some good reviews. I'd say the bad ones are from actual patrons. At least have someone out on a cart with drinks and snacks if your going to shut down the restaurant for private parties all the time. What a joke! read more

A good price for a great course. It is beautiful and relaxing. It is challenging without making you want to kill yourself. Most of the people who play there are tolerable - meaning they managed to pull the stick out of their a$$es, unlike most other courses in So Cal. I am just dork enough to love ringing the actual bell on the fourth hole....it gets me every time. Top it off with some great wildlife, and I'm in love. read more

I played DeBell today and at first I wasn't a fan of this course. There were clusters of white flying bugs everywhere, now I know this is no fault of the course I wish the cart had a shield to prevent the bugs from hitting me in the face. I found myself complaining about these bugs for the first 7 holes but around hole number eight I no longer encountered the irritating bug clusters. The grounds were a little bumpy but decent enough. On hole 18 we saw about 6 deer eating right in front of the green. My shot was thrown off as I was scared that I would hit a deer and suddenly be attacked. Just my luck my ball ended up right next to the deer as I yelled FORE in the hopes that the deer would move. With a mix of 4 and 5 par holes it allowed me to challenge myself to use some of my clubs that I do not typically use. I only lost 2 balls and from reading some of the other reviews I guess I got off easy. Overall all this is a nice course and I would definitely play again. read more

the management at this golf course can suck my balls and choke on them there was a frost delay on sunday, jan 13, 2013. there were alot of golfers affected by this and we all waited until de bell lifted the frost delay. de bell started to let golfers out @ 9:00. however, all of the tee times prior to 9am were all canceled. their reasoning was, "we can't delay tee times for 9 o'clock and onward". meanwhile, the rest of us waited for over an hour from the frost delay to be lifted and it turned out, we were on a waiting list. how is that being fair to those was have stuck around? is this how you treat your customer? fuck you de bell golf course and your management read more

Nice challenging course. Customer service is not so great. Be prepared to bring a couple sleeves of golf balls unless you are a scratch golfer or better. A little pricey for a round of golf compared to comparable courses. read more

Played July 1, 2017. Starters and staff are all friendly and helpful. Overall course is in decent shape. However, they seem to have given up completely on the sand traps. Very little sand in the sand traps, but tons of rocks and they are letting grass and weed grow wild in the traps. They are pretty much unplayable and just waiting to damage your clubs. read more

We've played there several times and it's been just fine which is why they're getting three stars instead of two. And this review is for the mgmt that need to show up at this place. Indeed its a beautiful course and has nice facilities but when you manage a golf course you have to manage all of it, at all times. You have to manage start times and slow players. If you don't the inconsiderate, clueless, newbie plyers ruin it for the rest of us who paid the same money as them. We started 30 minutes late and groups ahead of us repeated tee'd off multiple times (no less than two for each of them) and dropped multiple balls on the fairway (not because they lost their ball and not multiple location- this one DB repeatedly dropped mulitple balls bc he didn't like where his previous one ended up- REALLY?). We thought things would clear up by the back nine since we saw several groups drop off including the two we got put with. We thought we'd actually get all 18 holes in but nope, the jerks kept being jerks and nobody did a thing (didn't see a marshal one time). And if two tournaments are going to throw off the whole day (as the kid in the pro shop told me was the reason for the back up and "it always happens") then "hello"!! figure it out. Increase the time between tee offs, manage the tournament, whatever it takes but it's not fair to the rest of us who paid $50 bucks to play and can only get 13, 14 holes after 5 hours of waiting, I mean playing time. read more

I had the displeasure of eating lunch there today while awaiting my friends to finish their golf game. Upon arrival, 3 tables occupied with 2 people, so 7 people in restaurant including myself. Asked for table near the window with a view. I was accommodated by an unsmiling waitress (of two), who pulled 3 tables apart from an earlier party, which had still not been cleaned up, even though no business. I took a menu off one of these and sat. It went downhill from there. 1) had to wave at the two waitresses at the bar who talked together continually through my lunch. Ordered a club soda and salad with light dressing. 2) I was not offered bread or even crackers with the salad which itself was okay, nothing special. 3) No salt & pepper on table, had to get up and get my own as I was ignored again due to "talking". 4) I had to get up again to go to the bar to get more salad dressing, (as again I could not get the attention with waving my arm in the air as I did the first time for service) as there was barely any dressing on the salad--maybe my fault for saying lite. 5) no refill on club soda-guess why--they were still talking. 6) no waitress appeared or asked if I wanted anything else or cleared the obviously finished plates (20 minutes) 7) finally flagged down the busboy for water and hot tea which he brought in a timely manner. 8) my waitress, who was pleasant enough when she showed up, finally brought me my check and walked away. I opened the folder to find a $44 check for 2 and for a different table. I called her back saying, "wrong check" and she came back; brought the right check and I paid. 9) If I'd seen the busboy at this point, I'd have given him a tip, as he gave me the best service. I left and tried to contact a manager, either General or Food & Beverage, but one one there. This is the 4 or 5 time I've eaten here, not of my choosing, and it has always been lacking. At Christmas about 14 of us came and 3 people had to send their quesadillas back as there was no cheese in them. Just and example...it was actually much worse than just that particular problem. They'd have to pay me to come back at this point--they need new staff or train the old staff, but a manager on duty is definitely needed at this "restaurant". I guess you have to be a male or a regular to get any kind of service. read more

Tough course for the high handicapper. I've played it off and on for 44+ years and the course is always up and down as far as condition. Mostly bad. Bumpy greens. Rocks, roots on fairways, and Johnny Cat and gravel bunkers. Only thing missing was the poop. The real shame is the rudeness of at least a few pro shop staff/range staff. Bitter, ex-wannabe players who enjoy belittling customers. a big power-trip for them i assume because they couldn't cut it as touring players, so they work at a course. Some enjoy making you wait hours to get out if you don't have a tee time, even if there is not one person in front of you or there are no reservations! Make's sense? No. It's sad to see this happening to a potentially great golf club. Hopefully after reading so much negative press about the monetary state of the club, someone will jump in and save it soon. I'm already pushing 70, so I hope it happens quick! Don't get me started on the over priced Club House food. Review coming. read more

Started off with a great and informative welcome by the gentleman in the pro shop. Reviews were correct in that it was a tight and twisting course. ..added to the fun. We walked and finished in under 3 1/2 hours. A cool little course tucked into the canyon. This was a Thursday 8am ttime. read more

Great place. Was playing with a good friend of mine who has Alzheimers. He loves golf but hadn't played in a few years and I didn't know what to expect. As it turned out, on the very first hole the marshall came over and said that we needed to hurry it up since there were people behind us. I explained what was going on and she couldn't have been nicer. Also, the other two people we were paired up with were great and understanding too. To hurry up, we missed out a couple of holes, hit the same ball on most holes, but had a great time. When we left after 9 holes, the marshall waved at us. Clubhouse very new and airy. In summary, I am no golfer, but the setting is great and the people are friendly. read more

Lots of bad golfers on the course, almost got hit by multiple balls in previous rounds. One guy hit a driver into my cart at like 130 mph, if I was in it I might be brain damaged. Its sad that the course is good but the golfers are terrible. People play at insanely slow speeds. Course is alright. Very narrow fairways. if you don't know what you are doing you will lose a ton of balls. Nicely maintained. Driving range sucks. Putting green is very limited in front of the club house. Not sure what it is but for some reasons there is something missing on this course. Played DeBell on sat 9/8/18 and it was a bit buggy but that didn't bother me as much as the condition of this course. Normally DeBell is in "decent" shape but there's no excuse for the poor course management. There's a lot that needs to be fixed between the uneven tee boxes and condition of fairways. The greens were kept up but that's not saying a whole heck of a lot. I'm not a horticultural expert but I'd really find it hard to believe the grounds crew and staff would disagree with me. While summer conditions have caused some difficult challenges for courses, DeBell really needs to own up to the simple fact this course hasn't been managed properly. Summer conditions can't be to blame for the dilapidated driving range. Normally the pro shop here is great but this past Saturday it was more of a pro closet with nothing in it other than a cash register and some gatorades to take your money. I will say the restaurant was up to par and played a ton of great music. I'll be back to play Debell but it won't be any time soon. This is a course with lots of iron shots and one where distance control is important. When I'm hitting off dirt, literally patches of dirt there's not much to expect in terms of strong outcomes or finishes. read more
