It's $3 for a single breaded derpy fish, but they are pressed fresh and are huge! And not just in sheer size or appearance but they really pack these taiyaki with filling! I had red bean since it's my tried and true; you can never go wrong with this sweet -- but not too sweet -- and starchy topping. Brilliant crunch and not as gelatinous as some. They do warn you that it takes 5-10 minutes to prep. In that period of time, you may wander around and feel tempted by the other food stalls but don't fall for them. This taiyaki shop is the best thing in the food court at this H Mart. They have multiple fillings/ flavors so if you don't get multiple (it's 3 for $7.50), you'll need to come back and try the others. They have custard, chocolate, sweet potato, apple mango, and blueberry + cream cheese in addition to the red bean. Another point of interest were their mini fish/ taiyaki but the mold for that was broken during my visit. The Taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry) here is fantastic! I have come in twice and each time the Taikyaki was prepared to order. There are a number of different fillings that you can get ranging from custard to mango, but my go to is red bean. The outside is nice and crispy while the inside of the pastry is slightly sweet and chewy. The red bean also is not overly sweet. It does take a few minutes to make, but the wait is definitely worth it. Try to eat it hot if you can! The longer you wait the less crispy the outside will be. One of our favorite stores within H Mart. My boyfriend loves their custard taiyaki and always praise the quality of it since he has yet to find one that taste just as good and filling in quantity. Most places tend to put too much of the mochi exterior and very little actual custard or the insides might be too dry. Deli Manjoo always made ours to perfection, lightly crispy exterior with immense and deliciously amazing custard in the center that's hot and gooey. The other night I was watching Youtube videos of travel vloggers trying Korean street food and they were eating fish bread (aka taiyaki) and it made me want some too. I remembered this little shop located inside DB's HMart and went the very next day as a post-final snack! I was surprised to see so many filling options because I know that traditionally it's either red bean or custard, maybe nutella. But Deli Manjoo had red bean, custard, nutella, blueberry & cream, and SWEET POTATO! This is the first time I've heard of traditional taiyaki with sweet potato filling (i've tried Snowy Village's croissant-like sweet potato filled taiyaki). I ordered a Large Lucky Fish with Sweet Potato for $2.50 and waited about 5-6 mins. while they made it fresh. When the cashier gave it to me she told me to be careful because it was really hot but me being the impatient foodie I am didn't listen and just went for it. Ouch. I totally burned the roof of my mouth but it was so worth it because it was absolutely delicious! Crispy outside, chewy mochi-like inside, sweet sweet potato filling... They make the pastries fresh so it did take a few minutes. Their filling option include custard which tasted amazing with the pastry right off the iron pan. Deli Manjoo is a cute little Taiyaki store that is located in the food court area of Hmart. There is no designated seating for the shop, but there is plenty of seating for the whole food court. Taiyaki is a particularly good on-the-go kind of good anyways, so you can totally get one to eat while shopping in Hmart. Every time I come here, I like to get myself a regular sized Taiyaki fish filled with either Red Bean or Cream. They are really good as a snack and for satisfying sweet tooths. Deli Manjoo offers a variety of Taiyaki fillings, including cream cheese, chocolate and matcha, so there is something for everyone here! They also offer small Taiyaki, which are good too, but I find that the regular sized ones have a better crispy-factor. Each large Taiyaki is $3, but if you buy more than 3, each Taiyaki is $2.50. The Taiyaki usually take about 10 minutes to make, so you can totally order them and then do your shopping in the meantime before they are done! read more

Heard from a friend that the taiyaki here is better than Somi Somi. Although it was kind of a far drive for us, we decided to give it a try. It's located in Super Hmart where there are plenty of parking spots. We ordered the custard taiyaki and waited around 10 minutes before our order came out since they make it fresh. When our order came out, it was piping hot. It stayed that temperature for quite a while before we could actually eat it. The first bite was super crunchy. Compared to Somi Somi, it's much thicker, crunchier and more mochi like texture on the inside. The con is that even though it's much thicker, the inside is also hollow so all the custard filling ends up on the bottom. You just need to tilt it in order to get the mochi texture from the breading of the taiyaki and the filling together in one bite. I didn't eat it that way as I didn't mind enjoying all the custard filling towards the end. However, the custard filling was quite disappointing. It tasted super artificial. Like that food coloring taste. Let's just say I won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

The pastries have more dough, which makes it a bit more bready, but that's kinda how its supposed to taste. To offset the flavor and sweetness of the red bean inside. I don't really know how to explain it, except that it's chewy and tastes more like rice cake. A thick pancake more or less. In a market monopolized by Cocohodo, it looks and feels different. Located, inside the Super H-Mart in Diamond Bar, they sell Manjooya, Large Lucky Fish (Boonguh Bbang), Lucky Fish (miniature Boonguh Bbang), and Hodoya. BTW, it's CASH ONLY here. MANJOOYA - corn shaped mini cakes that are filled with custard. I believe that Lee's Sandwiches sells them under the Deli Manjoo name. No relation to this store itself. BOONGUH BHANG - fish shaped pastry filled with sweet red beans. In Korea, it's known to be street food that's enjoyed during wintertime. The best Boonguh Bhangs are the ones that have just been freshly made and are a little bit crispy on the outside. LUCKY FISH - miniature sized Boonguh Bhang. Smaller, with different fillings available here. My favorite is the red bean, but this month they're featuring custard. HODOYA - mixture of walnut, red bean paste, and dough molded into a walnut shape. The walnut though, is baked at the edge, not fully inside. As much as I love the Hodo Gwaja at Cocohodo, it's nice to see some change. Recently, I've been trying to embrace variety, therefore Deli Manjoo couldn't have come at a better time. On a side note, one of my faves at Korean supermarkets is SAMANCO. A rice wafer in the shape of a fish that's filled with sweet and creamy vanilla ice cream, with a layer of red bean paste beneath the shell. First time trying this place after having been to this H-Mart various times now and I am saddened that I didn't give this place a try earlier. The people working there make their pastries FRESH! You can literally see them putting the batter on their cast iron pans to cook their pastries and filling them with red bean or custard. I got the Large Lucky Fish: Red Bean and Custard. I am a sucker for Red Bean paste and I am addicted to Custard so I was really excited to try both of them. The Pastry is crispy on the outside and soft and piping hot on the inside. BEWARE: You might burn your tongue like I did. Red Bean was sweet and Custard was creamy and flavoful. This place is very comparable to the Imagawayaki at Mitsuru Cafe! I love both of them! I've come here several times and continue to come back because I really enjoy their large custard stuffed fish. It's a small spot with only a few employees and the last two times I visited, the bolder man was in charge of marking the fish with the flavor that's inside and both times he messed up and I had to wait another 15 minutes for them to make new ones with the correct flavors. That's the only annoying part of coming here because you easily stay for 40 minutes just waiting on 3 little fish. It is 8 for 3dollars, and you can mix and match with the corn manjoo, fish, and the walnut-red bean pastry. I ordered: 2 walnut bean pastries 3custard cream fishes 3 red bean tapioca fishes I haven't had walnut bean pastries in SO LONG. So I was more than excited to try these again. They were delicious! I would have preferred more of the bean filling, but nonetheless, left me wanting more. The custard cream fishes: My favorite. Yum Yum Yum! A little disappointed because the bread was soft and not crunchy, but my, the custard cream got me. The red bean fishy is very similar to the walnut-bean. I love these little custard filled cakes! The cake part is similar to the Vietnamese "banh bong lan" sponge cakes, and the custard filling is creamy and sweet. Usually they use the corn-shaped molds, but during certain times of year, they do special ones like the lucky goldfish. SUPER cute, but I think the corn ones give a better cake-to-cream ratio throughout the morsels (the goldfish have a big head and end up tasting too cake-y). They're not the cheapest snack, but if you buy them in larger quantities, they come in adorable gift packaging and are a pretty awesome deal. The box of 24 that I posted in the Photos cost me about $10, and the smaller lunch pail-like boxes run about $5 apiece. I've seen Deli Manjoo booths at Lee's Sandwiches throughout Southern California and even in some grocery stores. Seek out one near you to watch the little corn-shaped cakes fall out of the molds, hot and fresh. Yao Yao has it right -- ask for the hot ones! This little place is amazing! I discovered it when I went to H Mart to grocery shop. Their taiyaki is amazing, and in my opinion puts somi somi to shame!
