I drink one or two cups of coffee every day and wanted to buy my beans from a local roaster. I tried at least 5 local roasters in Orange County but was never 100% pleased with the taste of the coffee: too bitter, no flavor, boring. Then one day I was taking a shortcut to the Fountain Valley Costco and noticed a colorful sign on a small storefront in a rundown industrial strip area. I slowed down and read the sign: Delta Cafe Roasting. I went in and stood at the half door and rang the bell. On the counter were visual samples of 5 levels of roasting and a couple of bowls of beans. I chose Columbian medium roast and went home to brew a cup. OMG, it was the best cup of coffee I had had in forever. They sell a one-pound bag whereas others sell 12-ounce bags for $10. That lasts me about a month. I am an Aeropress guy. My recipe is 16 grams with a medium grind with 8 ounces of water at 200 degrees. Seriously, this is the best cup of joe I have ever tasted. I went back a month later and asked about samples. I wanted to sample all their varieties and maybe even a lighter roast. I was willing to pay. The owner, Chris, came out and explained that they don't do samples because between the bag and the labor and the price it just isn't worth it. They supply restaurants and cafes and don't make much money one bag at a time. He gave me a tour of the back of the shop and I was truly impressed. Chris had either made or re-made all the equipment and it was a very impressive operation. You could tell he loves what he does. read more

When you walk in the smell is amazing, and there is only a tiny little space to stand at the counter, with a board on the wall listing what they currently have in stock. Most of their coffees sell for $10 per pound, which is a fantastic deal. There are lots of varieties to choose like Central, Southern, Africa (Brazil, Columbia, and Sumatra are my favorites) including flavored and unflavored, light, medium, or dark roast, buy blend or whole beans. I recently had my Gaggia Classic Pro Espresso machine cleaned, and pump replace which they did for a reasonable cost and made sure it worked perfect. The lifeblood of our office is our Expobar Espresso machine and sadly after 10 years of daily use and multiple quick fixes it went down for good and wouldn't even power on anymore. I tried to find a repair company near by but nobody wanted to fix one little machine without driving it to LA or San Diego. I called independent coffee shops and asked them who they use for repair and service but non of them would come out either. By luck, i found this place on google. I called and left a message figuring it would be another dead end but Chris called me back after about an hour. He knew exactly the machine i have and exactly how to fix it. I jumped in the car and dropped in off on Friday at lunch time and had it back in my office making coffee on Monday! Not only that, he gave me a free bag of coffee on my way out. I used these coffees as Christmas presents and more recently bought a few and as prizes for a scavenger hunt. There's no show room here, you simply walk up and buy coffee straight from the roasters themselves. A few of my favorites are; Tiramisu, white chocolate, pumpkin pecan, and their non-flavored dark roast. They are all so delicious and there's still about twenty or more flavors to choose from! They are exceptionally well crafted and at an extremely reasonable price. The service can be a little bit slow because they run a very small staff, but just ding the bell and they'll come out to greet you. Not a fan. Coffee wasn't very good. Beans were not roasted well. It seems like any flavored coffee seems overly artificial and "sprayed on". Parking is limited. Staff was not helpful at well...at least when I was there. There were a couple of other people there who seemed to know the staff pretty well and probably does a lot of business with them and they kept starring me down, giving me a very unwelcome and creepy vibe. I won't come back...I'll try other roasters in the area or stick with my Lavazza Top Class. read more
