Service was horrible. First, there was a crowd of people waiting to be seated and no one ever came to seat us. After 20 mins we found out we could seat ourselves. The wait staff just walked pass everyone as if the crowd of people waiting to sit was invisible, no greeter or anything. It was my group and maybe 20 other people piled in the lobby. Then once we sat down, we saw the waiter once and got drinks, no menus, no silverware. We ordered our food and didn't see the waiter for another hour. When we asked about the order, she said our ticket still didn't make it to the kitchen. We just left, 2 hours waisted and appetite lost. Worst experience in a restaurant ever. Their management should be fired and never to work in that field again and the owners should get a fine. read more

You would think takeout would be quicker than dining in. You would be wrong. If you decided to order a milkshake this diner will come to a screeching halt. I was excited to eat here because it's been years, I was told to wait at the door to be seated, then overheard a trainee ask should we seat him? The manager said no he can wait! Mind you there was no one in the place. I chose to sit at the bad and overheard a young gentleman sexually harass some co workers and cuss several times. I will never eat here again. I have gone to many Denny's and have received excellent service; however this one on Tintern St has given my son and myself horrible service. Today, we went to Denny's because of a power outage in our area, and we hoped that we would be able to have a decent meal, or if it was open at all, due to seeing some cars parked outside. We walked in, to be intercepted at the entrance by a burly woman, one of the waitstaff, whom has short dark hair and a streak of gray in it. She spoke, disdainful of our very presence, and with a terrible attitude, "Our power is out," promptly putting her hands on her hips and nodding. We left with empty stomachs. I am usually a laid-back person, patient even, when it comes to service, but when somebody talks rudely to me, when a polite remark would do instead, I am not someone who takes rudeness well. When one is employed by a company, he or she is a representative of such company couple. It is their job, no, duty to be a well mannered, hospitable, and serviceable employee. When an employee is rude to a potential customer, or a paying customer, he or she is not representing the company well. And when the employee is rude, the customers will never return, thus meaning less profit, unfavorable reviews, and very little gratuity for all. I urge you, future customers, to not go to this poorly run and represented establishment. read more

This is a great neighborhood Denny's! I have visited it many times over the years. It is a very reasonable priced nationwide American diner. Never again will I visit this restaurant. My fried seafood platter was GROSSLY OVERCOOKED! The fried shrimp tough and uneatable. Along with the hush puppies which I'm sure were frozen and then warmed prior to being served. The fried crab cake was more like a paste than picked crab meat, running on my plate due to excessive water filled. I noticed other diners also left huge amounts of uneaten food on their plates. I ordered takeout and they forgot almost half my order. I was completely missing an order of pancakes and hash browns. I've ordered takeout from other Denny's and it always came in a nice styrofoam plate with a plastic lid. At this place you'll get a half dozen small takeout boxes with all your food separated and you have to put your meals back together like a puzzle. No wonder they forgot stuff. The pancakes I did get (I ordered two orders, one white and one wheat; I only got the wheat) were smashed together and folded up in the tiny box. I even asked the guy if he was sure I had everything and he said he "double-checked." Not ordering takeout from here again. read more

Went out for breakfast late one Saturday morning and everywhere was busy except Denny's. We soon found out why. Slow service, bugged the entire meal to fill out surveys, coke was flat, & and the food wasn't that great. This Denny's reminded me why I stopped going to this place. Never again. Terrible terrible manager service. Waitress took our order without writing it down, 5 of us. We knew something would be wrong, it was. Left various parts of our meal, so eggs came out after meal was almost done, toast came cold, replacement came after 90% of my meal was gone. Never refilled coffee. We noticed every table she went to, it started with..I apologize for taking so long. Asked for manager. She made excuses for why the meal was the way it was. Maybe the waitress wrote it wrong, told her it was never written. So waitress brings the check $57..the manager will fix it for you. Got to register, manager turned her back, waited for cashier to swipe my card, then came over and said to cadhier, oh, I was gonna discount some of it. Walked away. No discount, no apology. I will not darken that door again. Oh, and last week, did not allow me to use my birthday coupon, because she wants it printed. She is individually owned, and thats her protocol. Just stopped here for a late breakfast. While waiting for our table a couple was complaining that they've been waiting 45 minutes for their food. We decided to try it anyway. We sat for 15 minutes and had 3 servers walk by without saying a word to us. I was ok waiting for someone to at least take our drink order until the people behind us who were JUST seated had their server take their order. I asked if she was our server and she said no but would take our order. Nope. I asked for the manager. She was very young and inexperienced. The family across from us were getting up to leave too because they were waiting 40 minutes for their food. I understand being busy on the weekends but at least acknowledge us. The waiter was nice and the manager came around about six times while I was there, but it still took about 45 minutes for the typical breakfast order to get too the table. We heard dishes crashing to the floor in the kitchen and people arguing. This did not make for a pleasant dining experience. I even had to ask for syrup for the pancakes and the toast bread came five minutes after the meal was placed on the table. The place was less than half full at the time. What makes a place worthwhile to go to isnt just the food its the people that are in it. I decided to go here with a friend as a rare treat to myself. I was not disappointed. My waitress Azza was a complete joy. So full of life and good humour that she made my day. Smiles everytime she came to the table. She made me feel like she really cared and that hasn't happened in a long time and why I dont generally eat out. Food came in a timely fashion. And our drinks were always full. I really feel that this establishment is very lucky to her. I will be coming back just to see her. read more

I love coming to Dennys every weekend! We get good food and great service. When we come in to eat we always feel so welcome because of Azza. We always ask to sits in Azzas section or have her wait on us. She is a wonderful lady and always knows how to make you feel special when you come in to eat. When we come in we look for her, she see us and already knows just what we want. My husband loves the Philly cheese steak omelette with loaded hash browns and I am a French toast girl. She is great at what she does, but more importantly, she treats you like family and takes care of you. That is a good feeling. First of all, best service I have ever had at a Denny's. I was greeted at the door by Michael (mentioned in a previous review) who was exceptionally pleasant. After I ordered, I was surprised at how quickly our food came out. Unfortunately, we did not keep him as our server. He stated that something came up and he had to step away. He introduced us to David who would take care of us for the rest of our visit. David was a pleasant waiter as well. It did take a little time for refills of my coffee, but he had to take over Michael's tables so I'm not too upset about that. I spent a decent amount of time there and was able to see Michael again. I showed him the review that was left by Eric and I could see the smile form as he was reading. He was clearly excited and wanted to show his manager. They both came back out and she was introduced as the general manager. (No name tag so I can't put a name) she read the review and was pleased as well. All in all great place to enjoy a cup of coffee while reading the Sunday paper. I removed a star because too much oil was used in my food to add the sizzling effect and it made it too greasy. Been to this Denny's several times in the past month. Exceptional food, exceptional service. Typically I would not write a review of a chain restaurant, but the staff at this Denny's goes out of their way to be friendly and say hello. Each and every member. From the front of the house crew, to the kitchen crew when they happen to behind the counter. This place used to be a Silver Diner, and still has the 1950s nostalgia decor inside, which really provides a pleasant ambiance to eat in. I wish I could remember the waiter's name who I have had here on several occasions, African-American gentleman probably in his mid to late 30s...he really stays on top of the table and couldn't be nicer or more efficient at his job. If you want a chain 24-hour restaurant, come here. It beats the heck out of the IHOP just down the street. read more

I gave 2 stars because I was greeted with a smile and the server was very nice. I was here to pick up my breakfast on the way to work. Now I don't expect a whole lot from Dennys which is why I normally do not eat there, but I really wanted wheat pancakes and was in a rush from having my car serviced. I ordered the pecan wheat pancake breakfast. When I got to work and prepared to eat it, the eggs and turkey bacon was fine. The problem was the pancakes. Looks like someone just poured pecans on top at the last minute. I took a piece of the pancake and wondered why did it taste like onions. Well it was because there were onions and bits of shredded hash brown under it. This meal doesn't come with hash brown so I assumed that my pancakes were made in the same pan/griddle and the hash browns and onions? This means they didn't bother to clean the pan or grille. read more

Waitress Azza brought out the wrong order. When the customer stated it was wrong, she began arguing that the customer only thought she ordered the other item she said she did. The customer persisted saying due to food allergies she couldn't eat the item brought and would never have ordered it and wanted the item ordered. Waitress said it was still her fault, she had pointed to the wrong picture when ordering. Then left to put in the new order. Waitress came back to convince the customer to not post a review about the incident and worried that other diners had heard and might also post bad reviews,which is why I'm posting. When you go out to eat, you want to get your food and eat in peace. You don't want to have the staff play mind games with you or have a waitress argue with you about the order. You certainly don't want to sit next to a customer who is having to argue about getting an order right especially when you know the customer ordered what she said she did. read more

We visited this Denny's at about 2pm on a weekday. The hostess was standing talking to someone behind the counter, and had to be yelled at to help us. We were the only ones waiting to be seated. The restaurant was only about half full, if that. When the hostess finished her conversation, she walked over, about enthusiastic as a wet rag. She seated us, and then said "Oh, and I guess I have to take your drink order". I thanked her by name (Kelsey). Hmmm...it was not looking good for this experience. We did receive our water and tea, and then sat for at least ten minutes after reviewing the menus and setting them down. We were right in front of the counter, where at least four employees and the manager were milling about. I even made eye contact with the manager and he ignored me. We decided were were just too tired to put up with bad service, and left. When we got to the front door, THEN the manager followed us and asked what our problem was. We told him we just wanted to be served promptly, and he looked like we were from Mars. He pursued us out into the parking lot as we were walking to the car, and again, we said we just wanted to be served. We elected to just leave rather than create problems. We were SO tired, and a Denny's breakfast sounded SO good.....I hope the staff at this Denny's got what they wanted out of the experience. We left and drove down the street to the Chik-Fil-A and were served promptly and efficiently and with positive enthusiasm. Save yourself an unpleasant experience and visit the Chik-Fil-A instead of the Denny's in Chesapeake, Virginia. read more
