As for a normal Denny's it's the same as it gets but tonight was bad. The service took forever, granted I've only seen one person taking orders. Then the coffee comes burnt and the food is cold and gross. I wouldn't even give it to my dog. The ultimate omelette tasted like a microwaveable TV dinner that wasn't cooked all the way through, and don't get me started on the Hot chicken sandwich. That crap was so inedible I had to douse it in ranch (which didn't taste great either) to just get through half the damn sandwich. The waitress also didn't have the best attitude in general. And the bussing cart, which was full of dirty dishes and germs was parked and left near our table for ten minutes, so disgusting. This is my absolute favorite diner restaurant I enjoy going for breakfast. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal! Servers are also great and always efficient, happy and polite. Can't wait to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a great breakfast spot. I used to love coming here at least every Sunday with my family for as a long as I can remember but this place has gone downhill! the last few times we've come here since December have just been bad experiences overall. Food has been arriving late LATE, it's either missing something or they bring the opposite side to our food that we clearly didn't want. And the thing is is that there's always at least 2 other tables besides us with 3 or less people so it isn't busy, so I don't understand how they can't provide a good service... and sometimes their waiters/waitresses take their sweet time to come and help after we've been seated. I work retail so I don't understand how the food industry works if they're short staffed and I try to be compassionate of their employees but it's already been enough. Horrible service. Had to make major efforts to get a waiter to notice me after being seated by a lady who didn't even look at me or say anything to me when seating me. She literally placed the menus on the table and booked it-i thought maybe someone would come to attend of me after and like I said, waited for 20mins and nothing. Had to get up from my seat and wave to someone to assist me. Super rude service at the front desk. Fernando was an excellent server! I love coming to this Denny's - the food is always good, the staff is always nice, & this Denny's has one of the best interior/exterior design. I get the Veggie Fit Fare Skillet almost every time I go to Denny's & sometimes I encounter issues (i.e. meat or cheese, beans, etc. being put into my food & the skillet not being hot), however, I've never had any of those issues here. Customer service is really bad- when you pay extra for an item it should be there. The customer shouldn't be accused of "no you didn't order it I didn't see it." On the 2nd try... it looked "skinny"... where the first looked overflowing; this was the opposite. It looked like they didn't put everything on it. We were in the area, and wanted a quick bite to eat, so thought we would find something from the 2-4-6-8 menu for lunch. BIG MISTAKE. We had a party of six, and though the place was less than a third full, it still took them almost 10 minutes to get us seated. Drinks came out fast, so thought the service would be prompt. And then, it took forever for someone to get our order. We ordered simple stuff, soups, caesar side salads, burgers. Twenty minutes later, no salads, no acknowledgement of our existence. At least the salads by now, right? Thirty minutes, nothing and no one. Forty minutes, we get up and check to see what is going on. No sign of our servers, a couple of orders up, but not ours. Place is almost empty. Strange for a Saturday afternoon. No salads being prepped, NOTHING. We tell a busboy to cancel our order and we are leaving. We leave a five just because, but that was probably too much. So here is where it gets interesting. Another server comes over to apologize, and told us that there was a dine and dash situation in the restaurant, and the servers in our section had left the restaurant to chase after the dashers. Which, he told us, was not something they were supposed to do. Offered an apology, which is about it. Our guess is, that our orders were never prepped, because they were never entered. We walked across the lot to eat at Jack in the Box. Jack took care of us just fine. While we were eating, two Garden Grove police units rolled up to investigate the Denny's crime scene. This spot along Harbor Blvd has had its ups and downs. In the late 90's during my high school days it was used as a hang out after club meetings since Santiago HS is a few blocks away. During the 00's it went through a sad period where the decor looked drab and dilapidated, and although for my twenties I used it as a late night spot to sober up at, not many people frequented it and it looked like its end days were near. Thanks to the Harbor Street revitalization up in Anaheim by Disneyland some of those improvements tricked down here. The inside of Denny's got a remodel and Disney tourists started showing up. Now this place consistently has people dining. It receives 1 star for convenience 1 star personal nostalgia 1 star for effort Notice no mention of the food or service. I think it's safe to say that it's a given Denny's has mediocre food and service at best hence the lack of mention in the review. read more
