I visited the Denny's on Charter Way in Stockton yesterday with my father. The restaurant was busy, but nothing out of the ordinary. As soon as we walked in, the hostess immediately told us there would be a 45-minute wait for food and said, "I don't know if you want to eat here." That wasn't the warmest welcome, but we decided to stay anyway. Our waitress took our order fairly quickly, which we appreciated. However, when the food arrived, it wasn't fully prepared the way we requested. I ordered the Classic Burger with cheese and specifically asked for the meat to be well done due to past experiences of undercooked burgers. It definitely came out well done, but to the point where even the bun had burn marks. My father asked for his bacon slightly cooked, not crunchy, and it still came out crunchy. Our food took about 38 minutes to arrive, which was actually quicker than the 45 minutes we were originally quoted, so credit where it's due there. I also requested two sides of ranch, something I've done for years at this location. When we went to pay, we noticed we were charged $0.99 for each ranch. I've been eating at this restaurant for over 30 years, and my father for over 50, and we've never been charged before. When we asked about it, the same hostess told us there's a new manager who "watches everything" and that the charges just started. When the waitress came by to say goodbye, I asked why we weren't informed about the extra charge. She said they've been doing it for a while and assumed we knew since we come in often. That response, along with the unwillingness to adjust the bill or at least acknowledge the lack of communication, was disappointing. I was able to use my AARP discount, but that wasn't really the point. Even when I order online, I've always received my sides without extra charges, and she mentioned the night shift does things differently. I've supported this location for decades, but experiences like this, lack of communication, inconsistent food preparation, and surprise charges, are exactly why longtime community restaurants start losing loyal customers. Unfortunately, after this visit, I won't be dining inside again. read more

First and foremost let me start by saying this is one of the worst Denny's I've been to in history I'm 44 years old and been to about at least 50 locations, whatever is going on in this marshalling location the Target location where Buffalo wild wings is at across from the mall is the worst one in town whoever is a manager at that location needs to step up wake up and take those scales out of their eyes it seems that every time I come in at an early evening hours Denny's is closed conveniently for cleaning they say funny I never remember what Jenny's has been closed ever since they're open 24 hours but this one stays consistently closed I guess I don't care about the money coming in and trust me it was very good money that day seems that the chef and the servers have a little thing going on where they close up and hang out anyways just throwing that out there letting everybody know be careful when you go to that Denny's food is made not horrible very decent but the service is very lackluster depressing and needed a faith any kind of Faith at this point especially since then his location was closed for numerous years for renovating please do a better job of hiring staff that's attentive has great customer service and has a heart I know people have bad days trust me I have plenty of them but it doesn't mean that every time I come in and treat me like a piece of crap avoid this thing is at all costs it's horrible serving the chef everything bad much love Stockton California read more

This morning when I got home from work I door dashed my boyfriend some Denny's before he went to work. When he was eating his choconana pancakes he felt something hard in his mouth he spit it out and it was a piece of broken glass. My boyfriend went to the diner to complain and he was told to call corporate they didn't even try to make it right instead they asked him to leave when he got upset. I grew up on the south side and used to frequent this location. My dad wanted to have breakfast so we came here. I haven't been here in over a decade. Not much has changed but the interior and menu. It took our waitress about 25 minutes to ask for our drinks and orders and we had to wait another 50 minutes for our meals. Once we got our meals the eggs were undercooked there was a hair in one of the plates and the toast had lettuce in it. They gave us new toast and it was undercooked not to mention the butter not even being spread. This is the worst Denny's I've ever been to and probably the worst in Stockton in general read more

This Denny's location is a bit smaller than what we usually see but we chose it based on location for our road trip. We were seated right away and our server came Over quickly to take our drink orders. We ended ordering everything at once and our food came out quickly as well. Everything tasted just as it should. Poor service. Bad timely manner. I arrived with a party of two while their was only one other table in use. About 25 minutes later our server finally took our order after 5 different tables had gradually been occupied and attended. Then while stating our basic orders we waited about another 30 minutes to receive two wrong orders. The server didn't write down our orders accordingly and repeatedly brought out the mistaken plate over three times. It wasn't until we spoke to the manager who was able to retake our order and bring out the correct food that we were finally able to eat. What a treasure Dennys has in Jessica. When we sat in her section she treated us like family. She offered lemon/cucumber waters (yes, at Dennys). She took the time to clarify our order so it wouldn't be wrong. She asked if we wanted sugar free syrup or regular. She asked if we wanted fruit vs fries. She was very attentive. When we checked out she didn't know it was my birthday and she said happy birthday. She said she would have made a big deal had she known, and said her son was born on my birthday too. They are always understaffed; which explains why they take so long to answer the phone, greet you, seat you, and attend to you BUT not bill you. Lol I usually order breakfast and their peanut butter pancakes are sooo darn delicious, super sweet I'll tell you that so def no syrup needed. Their regular "buttermilk pancakes" are not the same like they use to be, so now all these toppings are a must. I've also tried their blueberry and banana pancakes which are pretty yummy as well. French toast here with extra powder sugar is a must for me. I don't come nor order during lunch time at this location because your 1hr lunch will fly by waiting for your food and when it arrives it will be cold and/or incorrect.They lack on communication here. And most definitely need to to improve in maintaining lobby and restaurant clean, floors are always dirty. Seems like the morning shift crew moves quicker, in my opinion. Only 6 tables full room 10 minutes to order. My pancakes eggs bacon and sausage were cold. I let the waitress know after taking a bite of the bacon they took it back less than one minute i got it back....it was microwaved.. i had spread the butter previously so when it was returned it was soaked. My 1/2 eaten bacon was under the eggs.. Had to request water again and coffee again. Very disappointed. I used to love this place read more

Then waited 20mins extra and no food manager could not work with me and instead cancelled my order and yelled at me for their problems. This is the only sit down restaurant within 10 miles of my office. So when friends want to come do lunch with me, this is where we go. Listen, the food is always good. HOWEVER my complaints are about the service. Not that its not there, but that it HOVERS. The last three times I went in I had the same waitress (Janelle, i think her name is) and each time she stands at the table and tells long stories about her personal life that we didn't ask for.. lady, I only have an hour for lunch. I'm all for positive customer service, but when its clear we just want to eat our food, check in and move on please. read more
