This is the best pizza place I've ever been to. It truly is a hidden gem in Birmingham. We got a 10" pizza half Mona Lisa and half Rene. Both halves of the pizza were incredible. The Rene had shrimp, pesto, scallops, peppers, tomatoes, all topped with cheese. And yes this still somehow qualifies as pizza. I highly recommend this spot. The only downside was the service being a little slow, due to how busy it is on Sunday nights, but I didn't mind it because of how phenomenal the food was. P.S. What is worse than being away from home in a hotel during a pandemic? Having the restaurant you ordered delivery from not put your order in, then kind of apologizing on the phone when your order is over an hour late. Then you open your food (in a hotel) to find no fork & no napkins to eat your spaghetti with. The Grub Hub driver great, apologetic (not his fault) and got the food here hot. We ordered a salad that came out completely wrong and no pepperoni, the waitress tried to tell me the ham was pepperoni. the waitress was cold, didn't answer questions or care about us as we waited almost 30 minutes for salad. The spaghetti wasn't good either. the keener of the restaurant was an absolute jerk to my mother and told her to her face he didn't care that we came for a nice meal and didn't get one. This place does not care about you or your famil's experience, are all jerks. Do not spend your hard earned money with these deplorable people. I'm just glad I had walked out when the owner talked like that to my mom, or this would be a different story. 0-10. Spend the extra money at GianMarco, or go to Salvatore's. Ordered Shrimp Scampi extra Asia w/ a side salad via Uber Eats. Based solely on the reviews I read and I am disappointed to say the least. I don't know if it's bcus I ordered it to go or what but it was not delicious. It was almost a pound of angel air or capellini pasta with 5 shrimp and cheese. No sauce to be found and definitely not extra sauce. It was beyond dry. I can see the oil at the bottom and it also wasn't flavored at all. I know Scampi sauce is butter and garlic primarily but damn. There is no way allllll of the sauce soaked into the pasta nor did the pasta soak up the flavor. I tasted nothing. I was able to peel the cheese off the shrimp and eat those along with the salad but the rest is trashed. $22 for 5 shrimp. The pasta dishes leave a lot to be desired. Runny, watery marinara sauce in the lasagna. Their ravioli is definitely frozen topped with the watery tomato sauce. The garlic bread is no more than a loaf of hamburger bread with very little flavor much less any garlic on it. The wait was way too long for the food that finally arrived. This establishment should have been leveled when the other new restaurants and hotel were recently built. It's old, dirty and past it's prime. Don't waste your money here, go to GianMarcos, Johnny Brusco's, or Carrabba's for Italian. read more

My friend and I tried this restaurant a few months ago and I forgot to share my experience. We ordered the Mona Lisa without mushrooms. I remembered it being super cheesy and super good. The server we had was sufficient. The one thing I didn't like was where we were sat. It was a windowless cramped area near the back of the place. Other than that, the pizza is highly recommended when you're in the mood for pizza and want to splurge a little. Hopefully you will get better seating than I did. read more

Food is just Ok, they say freshly made but it took over 40 minutes to get our order and they were very simple orders that at the most would have been 20 minutes. Limited to no communication about when your order would be coming and one time told us it would be out in a minute and nothing for another 10 + minutes. I recently found out about this place in august of 2021. My first three visits were great (chicken Parmesan, baked feta, and one other dish). My 4th, and probably last visit, was tainted by a pizza that was nothing short of disgusting. I have never had a pizza be a hybrid of a thin crust and a deep dish at the same time. I really wouldn't have cared so much, but our server was pretty abrasive when I was trying to politely and discretely tell her about the issue. She literally kept pressing and pressing me. I've loved this place on previous visits, but this time was a miss. My previous experiences were all 4/5 (due to the food usually needing a little more seasoning). The food here is great! The bread they bring you is some of the best around. Very crunchy on the outside but really soft and buttery on the inside. The pasta is really good as well. I recommend their Shrimp Scampi. It could have come with more shrimp for the price but it was still excellent. Their pesto is great as well as it is not too overly basil forward and more garlic flavor (a personal preference). This is a charming little hole in the wall that has been a part of Birmingham since the '60s. Seating no more than about 50 people, this restaurant is very quaint and cozy. After walking in my appetite grew 5x from the warm and buttery aroma of pasta and pizza. The menu offers a great variety of traditional Italian dishes including favorites such as; ziti, lasagna, chicken Parmesan, and a variety of other pastas and pizzas. I decided on ordering shrimp fettuccine Alfredo among the many menu items. Although a bit pricy ($17)- the pasta portion was remarkable and flavor was exceptional. As for service, our waitress, although very busy was very attentive to our larger party of 6. I have lived in Birmingham since 2001. I grew up partially in Homewood and it was my first time at DeVinci's this past weekend! It is the definition of a hole in the wall restaurant that gave a homey and welcoming vibe. Our waiter, Jimbo, was excellent. The entire staff was masked and although it was a "seat yourself" restaurant, all patrons were respectfully spaced apart. Tables had hand sanitizer for us to use! I had a Zoom Christmas party with one of my organizations. I knew I wanted spaghetti and I knew I didn't want to cook it. So I placed an order from DeVinci's for spaghetti and a garlic loaf with melted mozzarella cheese. It took about an hour to get to me but I was already aware of the delivery time so I wasn't upset. I appreciated them being up front and realistic about delivery times. They sent me regular garlic bread and I demolished both breads before getting to the spaghetti. I preferred the garlic loaf with the melted mozzarella over the regular garlic loaf. Just a personal preference because I like cheese. I opened the spaghetti and it looked delicious. It had a thick layer of cheese right on top. I stirred it up and it was okay. Once the cheese was all gone the spaghetti was kind of bland to me. We called and ordered a pizza at 4:50PM. We were told it'd be ready in 30 minutes so my wife went down to pick it up. She was told they had an order of 60 calzones that came in just before our order and there would be an additional delay. Why they didn't mention that on the phone is a mystery. Turns out they lost our order and fumbled around trying to tell us the pizza would be right out, "they're slicing it right now". My wife left at 6:30 PM without a pizza and had to scramble to find something to pick up. She waited in their restaurant for over 50 minutes, asking every 10-minutes when the pizza would be ready and no one took the time to check on the pizza. Shameful!! We (2 people) were seated right away, but the service was not great. It took a long time for our order to be taken after we were seated. We ordered a simple appetizer of mushrooms. When they arrived almost 45 minutes later, they were not what I expected. They were just mushrooms on a bed of shredded lettuce, with some cheese melted on top, with some marinara in a bowl in the middle of the plate. Then it took another 45 minutes or so for our food to be served -,a small pizza and a simple sandwich with chips on the side. By now we have been here more than 2 hours, and the place was not even packed. I'm sorry, but the food was just OK; nothing great. I won't be back. There are too many great places to eat in the Birmingham area. You get 1 chance to at least try to put your best foot forward and ya'll missed it this time. read more

The food's ok. The service is terrible! The lil' 16 year old kid that answers the phone that took my order has horrible customer service. When I went to pick up the food the same kid was preparing drinks by sticking his bare hands in the lemons and sticking a cup in the ice. Nasty! The Feta Cheese Bake is soup, nothing like any Feta Bake I've ever had. literally soup. So I called back to complain. I asked to speak to the manager and I could her the lil' kid in the back mocking me. The manager is a condescending b*tch. But guess what? Their health score isn't posted anywhere!!!! I'm calling the health department first thing MONDAY! The Manager said their rating is a 96 that's bs. The places smelled as well. If you ask me don't bother going. If I wanted my last meal on earth be pizza, this is it. I have never seen pizza cooked this way before. The toppings are all buried beneath a layer of incredible thick, delicious, melting cheese that just spills as tear away at it. I usually can stomach two slices but I could hardly go through the second. The Mona Lisa contained a layer of pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, and vegetables hides underneath a thick layer of cheese. The florentine had a layer of pesto sauce hides underneath even MORE cheese. I couldn't finish this slice. The crust is so soft and tearable. It's the perfect size. It's barely enough to hold the magic above it. The service here is good as any other place. Even if it was bad, you wouldn't know because your party or the waiters will probably have to roll you out the door to your car. It's ridiculous this place is anything less than a 4. As of this review, I consider this my favorite pizza place in Birmingham. Refrigerator Test: Move the pizza around after you put it in the fridge for a day. Otherwise the crust sticks to the bottom and you end up tearing off all the toppings. It's still delicious and the best cold pizza I've had yet. read more

I'm torn between 3 or 4 stars but I feel like their friendliness bumped it up. We were greeted immediately and saw consistently smiling faces through our dining experience. I imagine the parking could deter folks from coming. I believe I counted 7 spaces in the lot. Thankfully because we were there on a Saturday night when the hotdog joint next door was closed we could park in one of their spaces. There was one sign for accessible parking in the bushes, I still haven't figured out where that spot was. You can seat yourself at the bar, on the patio, the small front dining area, or the larger dining area in the back. The back area had a couple of parties and the patio had screaming children. It was a no brainer that we sat in the peaceful front dining area. FYI the women's' restroom was NOT wheelchair accessible. I didn't check the men's...that could've be awkward and that's why I specify women's. They didn't have a huge amount of diners at first but there were a lot of people coming in for takeout and I think that's what held up our order for so long. We came here expecting a wait so we couldn't complain about the amount of time it took to receive our food. We ordered a 16" Mona Lisa pizza which comes with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, ham, black olives, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and double cheese. My husband also tried the Stromboli sandwich. The Stromboli was not good at all in our opinion. The meat concoction looked so gross hanging out of the bread in a rubberized state. You couldn't taste any steak and the blob of filling just had a strange flavor resembling a bad mix of Worcestershire and mushroom gravy. Highly disappointed in this $8.75 dish. The pizza was pretty darn good. It was extremely hearty, loaded with toppings, and blanketed with a comforter of cheese. The crust was not your typical chewy, limp crust but more like a biscuit taste and stout enough to hold up to all of the toppings. I feel that it was worth the $27 price tag. Two pieces filled me up quickly. The pizza ended up being more than my husband and I could eat in two meals. PROS of pizza: Very hearty with plenty of toppings Each bite had a unique taste Crust held up to the toppings The blanket of cheese on top held on the toppings and was not too greasy The pizza overall wasn't too greasy Sauce was good when you could actually taste it I love onions and there were a lot of them, well diced for those who care Quality was worth the price CONS of pizza: Sauce was only apparent towards the edge of the pizza. I might see if they'll do extra sauce. Italian sausage wasn't noticeable, I want to be able to taste my Italian sausage If you're sharing a pizza with others and you think you'll pick off what you don't like, it ain't happening. Backstory: I'm from Florida. I grew up hearing all about how great DeVinci's is (both parents lived in Birmingham for a while), and now I finally got to try it. AWESOME. I must say, it lived up to the impossible hype that my parents put on it. The Mona Lisa is so tasty, and I actually dislike meat on my pizza, so that's saying something. We also got the Florentine, which had such a generous amount of spinach on it it was unreal. The crust is completely authentic, unlike anything I've ever had before, super tasty, lovely crunch, not too much salt, and slightly thicker than a thin crust but not so gross and thick to be considered thick crust. Our waiter was great, super speedy, nice, chatty, awesome. He also brought our food out the second it was ready. I know this because our pizzas were piping hot! YUM! read more

I truly haven't eaten at DiVinci's in 20 plus years. I'm getting several of the old favorites to see where everything rates. I was surprised to see the less than fabulous rating I remember from my childhood memories. Waiting on my to-go a couple of the bar regulars tell me the Italian specials are the way to go naturally after I've called in for a Mona Lisa, Stromboli sandwiches a "Hawaiian" for the ole Nag & kids. The restaurants appearance really hasn't changed to much if I remember correctly. It's still really small, but kept up neat. Don't really remember the bar much as this may be before the days of this consumption; Here's the grade "Stromboli Sandwich" Excellent! The ever so famous Mona Lisa was good A Hawaiian for the ole nag and kids. FAIR! There is really to many places to get better pizza. We ordered a delivery and had a "fortunate " mixup. DeVincis made it right and we loved our substitutions! We had the ravioli, seafood lasagna and scallops with artichokes over angel hair. How has the Yelp world not found this place yet? Working in town for a couple days and I was told to try this place and I am so glad that I did! Great pizza, was told they have been buying their cheese directly from Italy for 30 years. I had the vegetarian and added banana peppers. Side salad was better than most with mushrooms, black olives, cucumber slices, and a great house red vinaigrette dressing. Server was very friendly, small town feel to this place as it is not very big at all. Definitely recommend this place if you looking for some good pizza and small town atmosphere. read more
